The first trip of the Travelers Inn had been a success. At least that's what Misty Mae thought until one of the guests ended up dead. Accident or murder? The future of the inn depends on her solving the mystery.
TK Cornman found her creative side when her sixth grade teacher gave the assignment of writing a short story for a writing contest. Her short story about a beautiful woman who turns out to be an ugly witch won a third prize for creativity. She would go on to write poetry and other stories but never let others read them.
Her voracious appetite for reading took her traveling to great worlds while her family traveled the United States on vacations. This appetite for reading would be fed during her fourteen year career working in an entertainment store that sold books. After eight years of working for herself, she now finds that appetite fed once again as she works in a busy library filled with books.
A good read. Okay the characters still need some filling out but the plot was a good one. I must admit that I didn't expect somethings but the actual killer was someone I suspected from the start. A plot of murder that shows up embezzlement, company espionage, lies and murder. The Inn is now ready for their very first guests. Guest that want to take a trip back to the Coliseum, when it was new and bright. All seem to be going well until the dead body of an ad executive turns up dead. All the women hated her and all the men fawned over her. A new detective in town is assigned to the case. Does he believe in magic? The more the murder issue investigated the more they find wrong at the agency. Embezzlement, someone stealing new ad ideas, blackmail, hidden relationships and more. But who is the killer?
A unique take on the cozy mystery series. Should have been a 5, and with an editor, it would have been.
A dozen characters in the whole book - give or take - and we need surnames for every one? By the end, don't we know that Ms. Baxter was in line for a "big" promotion? Do we have to be told Every. Single. Time? The research that tells us what a human-animal event in the Coliseum is doesn't need to jump out and hit us over the head. Do we really need the column styles named?
This should have been at least a 4+. Sadly, it needs work.
The plot was a bit slow at times, but it was still interesting. I found some of the characters tedious and others seemed to have more fleshing out. Guess we will see if they become more real to us in the next book. Altogether, as I said before, it was an interesting concept.
