Accidental Familiar #4

If someone offers you a deal that seems to be too good to be true… it usually is.

All my life, I'd thought the Ravenswind farmhouse was huge. But then Opal added another small family and another soon-to-be adopted daughter to the mix. The house's space was shrinking big time.

Kids can do that.

I'm really not complaining, mind you. I love the new family, and I'm really glad we can be there for them. Just saying that things are getting a little crowded, that's all.

So when Arc and Ruby approached me with a deal to buy a small mini-estate with not one but two houses, what was there really to think about? Especially when the owner was desperate for a sale and willing to make us a deal of a lifetime.

The owner didn't strike me as all too trustworthy, though, so we did things right. The contract was vetted by Dad, and we had a full home inspection done before signing on any dotted lines.

We really thought we'd covered all our bases.

Oh, how wrong we were.

Home Familiar Home is Book Four in the Accidental Familiar Series. It is highly recommended that you read this series in order as there are major spoilers in the later books.

This is a full-length, Paranormal Cozy Mystery featuring the Gemstone Coven witches... and their familiars.

I wish I had enjoyed this as much as the previous stories in this series, but I felt like not a whole lot happened.

It mostly focused on moving into the new house, and sadly, at times, it got a little bit repetitive.

But when the book was focusing on the few mystery aspects in the story, it felt very much like the series I have been enjoying so much.

I know there’s more books to come, and I’m very excited to read more. I’m dying to know the answers to my burning questions.

Home Familiar Home is the fourth book in the Accidental Familiar series.

This book is an enjoyable book for any lovers of cozy mysteries. The characters are well developed, quirky, and likable. The storyline is well written and engaged my interest from the first with a real estate deal, ghosts, an innocent(?) uncle, and murder, missing manuscripts, and mayhem.

I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

I’ve been enjoying this series by Belinda White, at first there was a few things that didn’t seem all that real to believe in a book, but by book two I could see that things had picked up a bit and Belinda had actually improved on her writing a hell of a lot, then book three was on the same level with book two, but this book…. I’m not too sure of. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the story and the characters, but it seemed as if there was stuff missing or that I would of liked more information. For example, Lily and Amie go out for a walk after Amie, Arc and Ruby go through something traumatic (I would say what, but it would spoil things for you) and both Lily and Amie have a conversation and it seems that Lily is revealing something to Amie and honestly, I had no idea what was going on as to me it didn’t make much sense and I went over that section of the book a good three/ four times as it felt like I was missing something. For me, I don’t think that worked, I would of liked more information so that I could understand that part of the story.
Another thing that I didn’t think worked is that back in book three, the Goddess made such a big deal about how things were changing and that they all needed to be ready, yet so far I’ve not seen that big of change, it seems like it was all built up a hell of a lot in the last book and this one everything that had been building up before just wasn’t there. If this big change is meant to be coming in later books I’d love to read it and find out what it is, but as of now it really does seem like there’s only the 4…. In a way, I think it’s been built up a little too much and now either you’re essentially waiting to see if it all blows up in upcoming books or it’s as if this is the end of the story with this book. I would honestly love to see more, but I’m not sure what exactly is happening.
Other than those, I do think the story was good, it was as great as books two and three, but I do think it was an interesting story.

Amie and Ruby have both gone through a lot these last few months, and now with Opal having adopted Nancy full time, and also moving in Nancy’s friends and her kids, the farmhouse is getting a little overcrowded. Amie doesn’t mind all that much, but then again it’s not like she can go running off to spend time at her boyfriends apartment like Ruby does. So when Ruby and Arc offer her an amazing deal to get out of the farmhouse and for them both to have their own houses, Amie isn’t too sure what to do…. There’s something off about the place that Ruby and Arc have found and Amie can’t put her finger on it. Will everything appear to be as it seems or is there more than meets the eye??? How will things go down when Ruby ends up getting a bounty for Jack…. Jack who is apparently a family friend of Merlin’s??? Will they end up shopping him in or will they be able to prove he’s innocent?

Home Familiar Home, the fourth in the Accidental Familiar series, is, like the three earlier books, a fun who-dunnit that also has you wondering exactly what they did and when. The "background doom" continues to hover and build s well.

Amie is enjoying her life, she misses seeing Ruby all the time and things are going good with Opie. Ruby and Arc invite Amie to lunch, over lunch they tell her about this wonder house they found. It has 2 houses on the property and it is really cheap. Amie decides to go with both of them to check it out. She falls in love with the property. They decide that they want it and work out a plan of how they will afford it.
Amie, Ruby and Arc will do bounty hunting together to get the money needed for the payment. They go to another bounty hunting agency where they work out terms to bring in a bounty. The bounty is someone Arc knows, it is Uncle Jack. They meet with Merlin and Uncle Jack to find out what is going on and how they can prove he is innocent of this crime at least.
While working on Uncle Jack's problem, they all are moving into their new property. Then all of a sudden they see the ghost that is has been there. It is the former owner. She doesn't know how she died, she just knows she wants to see her brother not get the property
As Amie investigates the crime of the necklace against Uncle Jack, she sees that there is interconnecting ones and she believes there is more to Liz's death than meets the eye. When see is given information from a unknow source and all their leads end up following a pattern. Amie is able to figure out everything including what really happened to Liz

This was a great read, I really enjoyed the story and plot of the story. Can't wait to see what else is in store for these characters.

Great paranormal mystery!!!! I truly love this series. In this installment Arc and Ruby find a piece of property with two houses on it. Their plan was the barn house for them and the homestead for Amie if they could get her to agree to being partners in the purchase. Of course Amie agreed after seeing the library and the fact that the old farmhouse was getting very crowded with the new additions to the family. Amie also agreed to take on Arc and Ruby as partners in her bounty hunting gigs, as this would make the payment on the house. Their first job is Jack, a thief. Jack turns out to be Uncle Jack, and he is shacking up with the family lawyer Merlin, who believes he is innocent of this crime. And to top it off the new house is haunted, thankfully she's a friendly ghost. I don't want to give anything else away, but now they have to clear Jack and find out exactly why and how Liz died as it seems to have something to do with Jack. If you like paranormal mysteries this is truly a great series.

Plothole? Spoilers maybe.

It was an enjoyable read. One thing I still dont get, and its not really important to the book but it made me wonder a lot, its about Kimberly and Mason. End of book 3, Opal adopted Nancy and only them 2 and Amy were living together in the farmhouse. In book 4, Kimberly, Mason and a baby appear but no explanation of how they came to the farmhouse. At least a sentence or paragraph would have been nice.

Also, and this is not a plothole but my personal opinion, if they have to make a ballon payment, shouldnt they have concentrated on saving for that first before worrying about furnishing rooms that are empty at the moment? Amy had furniture for her living room and bedroom of her flat and kitchen stuff. Same with Arc and Ruby. Its not like they are moving from their parents house where they wouldnt have any furniture to take with them. Although this bothered me less than Kimberly.

Also, a car has 4 tyres not 2.

When a case opens up a whole barrel filled with worms

Terrific update in the lives of our favourite witches. Not only have they found a place to live (well two actually) but the payments are good and if they can save enough for the balloon payment at the end of the first year, they will both have an easy ride. That's why they took the new case. Finding a bond runner. Only thing was he was at Merlin's and swore he was innocent. Then there is the ghost in her house, missing manuscripts, Jack's past jobs that led to his running and a master thief broker. Can they find the manuscripts? Was the ghost's death really an accident?
Some nice quips from Destiny, some humour, lots of action and a lot of feeling plus a lot of sleuthing. The pace was good, the plot well thought out and altogether a great read.

There is a reason why this saying has a place in our lives.. if it sounds to good to be true, then it is! Even thinking you are ticking all the boxes, there may be a box you didn't know existed...
This is a nice entry into this series, I would recommend you read this in the order given otherwise there are factors to the story that you will enjoy more when you know the full story and the background story.
I like the characters (which are being added to all the time) it was nice to see more of Ruby and Arc this time as well as Amie and Opie they all compliment one another so well

The writing is good, it is a book I get lost in and is a nice take on the paranormal cozy

Amie's life takes a pleasantly surprising turn when her cousin Ruby & her brother Arc find an estate with 2 homes for all of them.

Focused on creating funds for the purchase all 3 form a team and get ready to become bounty hunters & their first case brings them very close to home.

At the same time the new estate is haunted by a friendly ghost who died very unexpectedly.

And thirdly, where is Opie stuck? Is he still committed to Amie or is something going to split them apart.

As if that was not all, the Goddess sends forth the details of 1st part of her plans to find out what's going on with the council.

With multiple themes running around this book seems to be like a perfect crock pot just waiting to be flavoured.

Amie, Ruby and Arc find a new place to live for cheap and after they move in they.find out why because it is haunted by a young ghost who died a couple of years ago but lucky for them Liz is a sweetheart. After taking a big bounty and finding out that is is friends with Merlin and Lily they try to talk the kids into believing he's not a thief well this time at least. As the investigations gets more intense Amie starts to think Jack Watson's case is somehow connected to her ghost Liz. Amie finds out Lily is the broker, Jack is a witch, Alice Liz's agent for her manuscripts made into books and one is being made into a movie and Kyle killed his sister Liz. What a story i can't wait for more.

Another good one!

Another good addition to the accidental familiar series.
In this one, our heroine Amie and her cousin Ruby, find themselves dealing with a ghost, and a burglar, and a race to find out just who was the real culprit for a certain crime...
This series is such a fun one to read. It has a little of everything, mystery, paranormal lives, and romances. Amie and her family are quirky and funny, and the familiars that live with them are amusing!
This is far from a standalone book, it is one in a series of cozy paranormal mystery books. Start with the first if you haven’t read them already, otherwise read and enjoy!

Loved the characters and the mystery. Amie and her brother and best friend have been offered a case to bring in a bail jumper. The problem? It’s their uncle, who is a master thief but has been framed. As they dig further, Amie starts to realize that this case is tied in with Liz (the ghost of the house they just bought), and her missing manuscripts, and the possibility that Liz didn’t die by tripping and falling down the stairs. She might have been murdered. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is book four of a series that must be read in order, so if this is your first encounter go find book one and start there. I promise you won't regret it. Amie Arc and Ruby find a property with two houses that is a deal of a lifetime, or so they think. Take on jobs as bounty hunters, and find a ghost in their new home. So many mysteries to solve and so little time. A really good fun to read series.

Great series

This is a unique series that has lots of unexpected twist. I like that the characters have grown in book #4 and their lives are changing for the better. I'm excited to see what the next book brings. White is an excellent author that brings balance of mystery and humour to a well-written plot.

Home, not so alone

Amie and her cousin Ruby, have found a beautiful property, with two houses. Ruby claims one, so she and Arc can be together. Which leaves Amie with an awesome home of her own. The owner seems a tad bit shady, when the cousins meet the ghost, the begin to understand why they got the property so cheap. Read and enjoy!

Entertaining

These stories are entertaining. I like the characters, there is suspense, & intrigue. They are confusing though, due to the setting being Michigan, but the language ranges from Southern, to British, to middle American. If you can get past those annoyances with an eye roll & carry on you'll have an enjoyable read.

Belinda White is very good at drawing the reader into the story. The story of the witches and their familiars in these past four volumes and two short stories make me desire to keep reading about this story.

Dog Tossing

This was not as funny as the first three. So it got a 4 star. Don’t get me wrong. There was Yorkie tossing. Which is hilarious. And calm down. No animals were hurt in the writing of this book. Or reading for that matter. Just Jack was not a likable bad guy.

WOW!

My favorite so far in this series. I truly enjoyed all the dead-ends and switchbacks and all of the red herrings thrown the reader’s way. Oh, yes, and there’s always something about a haunted house to intrigue. Enjoy

Pretty sure I read this one in less than for hours

So... I could give you another synopsis of the book but the author already did that and I don’t like to give spoilers if I can help it. But you need to read these books. They make a dreary day happy.
