She needed a fresh start…

Actually 4.5 stars

After years of writing BDSM romances (which ranged from OK to really good), Anya Summers has finally taken her writing to the next level and it's amazing. Wounded veteran turned therapist Ram hides his heartbreaking insecurity (about his prosthetic foot) through his dominance and his clinical detachment, but when he meets Sadie, his walls start coming down. Sadie, an ICU nurse sent to see Dr. Ram when her PTSD starts to affect her job, has her own heartbreaking struggles -- hav

I received this book with the understanding that I could leave a voluntary and honest review.

In this book we meet Sadie Montgomery and Ramsey O'Malley. While at work on night at Saint Mary's Hospital in the ICU ward Sadie has a patient come in. The woman on the table doesn't make it and that isn't uncommon for her profession it is what one of the other nurses says that sends her into a tail spin. She makes the comment that the 3 year old little girl is now the lone survivor that just took her e

Excellent read

Hot, sweet, poignant - hot. Did I say that?
PTSD comes in all ways; loss, the same way. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and I think you will as well.

Boy did this book make you break out with all the feels. Sadie is a broken woman when she moved to the Crescent City, working as an ICU nurse. After an episode of PTSD, she begins seeing psychologist, Ramsey, who she finds she has feelings for that she thought died the night of her trauma. A mix of professional ethics but unrelenting desire hits both Sadie and Ram when Sadie goes to Club Underworld to see if BDSM might be exactly what she's looking for. Ram happens to be a Dom and part owner of ...more

Just from the title and teaser, I wasn't sure exactly what to expect. OMG!!! This is probably one of the most heartbreaking, heartwarming stories I've read, and I've read thousands of books. Having lived over half my life in the south, close to New Orleans, automatically gave me a feeling of affinity with the world Anya Summers created. Then when you get to know Sadie and Ram, well, they both have enough of a flawed personality they become totally relatable. Add in the side characters and the e ...more

Lone Survivor is an amazing story that took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions from start to finish. The storyline deals with deep subjects such as PTSD and survivor's guilt, while adding in an intense chemistry with BDSM. The characters are developed and each touches the heart as they deal with real life problems. However, when Ram and Sadie connect their passion is captivating. Sadie discovers her sexual desires while learning to surrender and heal from personal demons. At the same time Ra ...more

This is a very emotional read. I loved Sadie and Ram. They had scorching chemistry and I enjoyed witnessing the evolution of their relationship as the story unfolded. Sadie was a character I felt strongly connected to. The losses she had suffered, the grief, the depression and the guilt made her incredibly relatable to me. The book does feature plenty of steam and BDSM elements. So if you like your reads on the tame and vanilla side, this book probably isn't for you. I thought that this was a ve ...more

This book gave me all the feels, and pretty much got me out of a really bad reading funk. I absolutely loved the story of Sadie and Ramsey and their journey toward their own HEA. There is some heartache involved, but it all works out in the end. Throw in the BDSM aspect and I was madly in love with this story. I'm really excited for this whole series!

Please note that I did receive an ARC of this book, and the opinions expressed in this review are my own.

Sadie moves to New Orleans to start fresh after an accident left her the lone survivor, her husband and parents now gone. Sadie is a nurse and experience PTSD from the accident. She is ordered to go see Ram a psychiatrist. Sparks fly but what will happen when Sadie learns of the BDSM club the Underworld and Ram’s involvement. Fast-paced read with loads of drama, lots of emotion and steam. The characters are amazing and the chemistry is sizzling. I loved it!

Sadie's life was turned up side down when she was the lone survivor of a crash that took her parents and husband. Moving away to a new city was her way of starting over again but when an incident in ICU triggered a PTSD episode she was sent again to therapy which sent her on a healing journey that she never would have imagined. Ram has had his own problems and taking Sadie in as a favor should have been simple until he met her and her mannerism pulled at the DOM in him. This story will draw you ...more

I really loved reading this story. Ram and Sadie.
She has PTSD, she survived the car accident that killed her husband and her parents.
This book was so good, you can find yourself relating to the characters in the book. Crying one minute, laughing the next.

This book was definitely a steamy read!
Hot, Hot. At the Club Underworld and the Masters!
Wow. What a way to deal with your PTSD.

What a great book. This book was entertaining from start to finish. Another great book by Anya. I loved the characters - Anya did a great job building the characters into people you love. Only negative thought and it's slight is I like a lot more BDSM in my books - but this book is really worth the read. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

First in series

This book is hot steamy and full out Love Story.
I Love the characters Ram the Dom and Saddie the Submissive. It brought up about PSTD and that it not only affects military but also accident victims both adult and children. Really enjoy this book and can't wait to read the 2nd book.

I found this book to be just OK. This is Ram and Sadie's story. I found Ram (the male lead) to be mean especially since he was supposed to be a doctor of psychology. Sadie is brand new to BDSM and also suffers from PTSD. I much prefer Cherise Sinclair's books--BDSM romance with heart! ...more

This is my first book I have read from this author. I was so satisfied with the whole story it was so good. Not just a D\s story.
I've read most of Ms. Summers books. They usually take place in reputable, respectable BDSM clubs -- formerly Scotland, Nassau, and Wyoming, and with this book, New Orleans (the author really gets around) -- featuring dominants who own the clubs and their various submissives (Loved by the Beast and Claimed by the Beast are exceptions). Each story represents one dominant and one submissive (though she has done MFM). And she emphasizes safe, sane, consensual (if you're going to set your books in w ...more

I will admit this story is an emotional roller coaster ride with the various characters. My heart breaks for Sadie and all she has lost, the memories, the regrets, and trying to move forward in life. The story has a great cast of characters, plenty of interaction, and emotions. This will be the story of Sadie Montgomery and Ram O’Malley.

Very basic writing, so many mistakes

As an author myself, I absolutely detest giving a bad review. So that’s not what I’m going to do. All I will say, is that Miss Summers and Blushing Books need to take a little extra time in the editing department, in addition to plot development, and proper BDSM etiquette, rules and regulations.

As a BDSM genre book, it is highly disappointing to read all the big no-no’s that are written into this book. I would recommend utilizing a beta reader such as Bianca

Exploring alternative therapy for PTSD

Lone Survivor is the first book in the new Crescent City Kings series by Anya Summers. I really found this book sucked me in from the beginning to the end. Sadie is a woman that needs to start again after losing everything in an car accident. Just one strange set of circumstances and her whole world was blown apart in the blink of an eye. So she moves from Seattle to The Big Easy, New Orleans. For the most part is is strong enough to get through each day and
