I’m a USA Today Bestselling author who loves writing. I’ve released over 30 books under different pen names. I write all shades of romance, from my Chocolate Box Romances which are sweet and contemporary, through to my dark and suspenseful romances.

I write whenever I can and don’t know what I would do without being able to write my stories down. I work part-time in a pharmacy and I run an author services business the rest of the week so there’s been less time to write. But when I get a chance then I am all in and submerged in the life of my characters.

I love chocolate, wine and reading. And love it when I can do all three together. With two late teens kids, that opportunity doesn’t arise that often. Instead I become Mom’s Taxi for them.

A Beast by any Other Name by Logan Fox - I was lucky enough to read an early copy of this short story by Logan Fox. This author has become one of my favorites, because they truly go there and don’t hold back with their writing. A Beast by any Other Name is a twisted take on Beauty and the Beast. It is pretty dark and haunting, but for most of the story you’re not quite sure WHY it feels that way. I really can’t say too much, because this is a short one, and I don’t want to spoil, but yeah. It’s dark. It’s twisty. It’s full of triggering content even though most of it happens off page you will be aware of what happened. All in all a great read. I only marked down a star because some things that happened weren’t fully explained. I know that it’s probably hard to fit so much content into a short story eloquently, but yeah there are a few questions I still wish were answered! I can’t wait to check out the entire anthology on 3/26!

Alice La Roux- The council of seven. Loosely based on Snow White and the seven dwarfs.

Imagine the prince wasn’t the one to wake Snow. Imagine she only had the dwarfs. We all know they love her but what if they wanted more?

This is a dark story with adult themes. Some readers may find disturbing. The seven dwarfs have their version of Snow and the can do as they like with her. This isn’t a happy-go-lucky fairytale. It’s twisted, dirty and there is room for more however the end makes sense.

This is completely different to anything I’ve read before.

ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I do enjoy reading anthologies and overall I have absolutely loved reading the stories written specifically for this book. A couple of the novellas have been written by authors that are known to me and there are others by authors that I will now go on and read more books penned by them. Anthologies are the perfect way to discover new authors that will often become favourites over time.

I absolutely love the theme of The Dark Kingdom. The authors have done an incredible job of taking classic fairy tales and adapting them to bring us a much darker side to the story. I wish I had their imaginations!

This anthology is perfect for those who like their reads on the darker side, plus there is a real mix of stories to enjoy too. I’m delighted that I chose to read this collaboration and would recommend The Dark Kingdom to you without a second thought.

I shall now rate and review each of the short stories.

The Council of Seven by Alice La Roux - 4.5 stars

I really enjoyed this story. This dark, steamy, modern twist to Snow White had me intrigued from the very first page. A great start to this anthology.

Osbourne by Anna Edwards - 5 stars

I thought this story was brilliant from start to finish. Anna Edwards has taken the traditional Robin Hood tale and made it even better than the original! Who can Mary trust? Will she be able to make her dreams a reality? How will the story conclude? I am certain you will love this as much as I did!

Saving Reli by Brooke Summers - 3 stars

This story was quite hard to read at times and I don't think it was for me. Yoreli's life changes in an instant and what she has to endure is cruel and heartbreaking. Can her life change for the better? You will need to read this and find out!

Prince of Ruin by Gemini Jenson - 4 stars

I really enjoyed this story. I would love the author to expand and turn it into a full length novel one day. I would love to see what happens next with Yazzy and Dean.

Captured in Underland by Isabel Lucero - 4.5 stars

This is a great story. I enjoyed trying to work out what exactly was happening with Allison. I was intrigued from the very first chapter and loved trying to suss which of the characters could be trusted. A fabulous dark adaptation of a classic tale!

In Too Deep by Karen Frances - 5 stars

I loved this story. From the first page until the last the author grabbed my attention and held it. Sophia intrigued me and I loved getting to know her. I read this story in one sitting as I needed to know what was going to happen next. Great characters, great story line and some heart in my mouth moments that had me glued to my kindle.

Catch Me If You Can by Krissy V - 4 stars

I would love to see this short story released as a full length novel one day. It took me a couple of chapters to connect with the novella and then I was hooked! I absolutely loved the story plot. The main part of the story was perfect but then it became a little rushed, hence my request for an expanded version. I loved Taylor and Gracie.

Web of Rejection by Leah Negron - 4 stars

This is a great story that had me hooked from start to finish. Entertainment on every page. I'm certain you'll enjoy this story too.

A Beast By Any Other Name by Logan Fox - 4 stars

This short story was going to get 5 stars from me, until the end. All the way through I've been intrigued as to where this story was going to go. The book is full of mystery and suspense. What has Pippa done? What has Brandon done? The secondary characters have my mind buzzing with questions regarding their loyalties and actions. I loved it all!

Why the loss of a star then? I know in one of this anthology's earlier reviews I have asked for a story to be expanded BUT I'm not a fan of having to click through to get what I assume is the full novel of A Beast By Any Other Name (even though it is free to download). I think for the purposes of an anthology any story should have a satisfactory conclusion rather than leave us on a cliffhanger..... but that is my opinion.

My first taste of Logan's work and it won't be the last, especially as I need to know how this story ends.

Princess and The Capo by P.T. Macias - 3 stars

I enjoyed this short story. Mafia is a trope that I do seek out to read. I thought the story line and the characters were good. I wish there had been a little more to the story.

King by Raven Amor - 5 stars

Fabulous!! What a story this is!! From the very first page I was hooked. I was enjoying the story about Beau and Nera and then what a change in direction we were taken on. Gripping, intriguing and with some twists and turns in the story that will have you feeling lots of different emotions. My only gripe is that I would have preferred to have an ending to the story within this anthology piece. However, I cannot wait for the full novel to see what happens next!!

Slumberland by Samantha Fontien - 2.5 stars

Not my favourite story in the anthology I'm gutted to say but that doesn't mean it will be like this for everyone. I was surprised at the outcome of this story which was a positive for me. However, I was left was so many questions being unanswered to fully enjoy it.

Bound by Sean Azinsalt -4.5 stars

This is a great story. Deception, loneliness and exploitation is all Danny has ever known. He’s a character that I took to my heart from the moment I met him. I so desperately wanted his fate to change and for him to find the happiness that I felt he truly deserved.

Innocence Lost by Taylor Porter - 4.5 stars

I loved this story. It’s dark, held my attention on every page and had twists and turns that I didn’t see coming. Some scenes were tough to read because of the content but was exactly where the story needed to go. I would have loved more and I hope that the author will consider turning this novella into a full-length novel in the future.

Imagine all your favorite fairy tales, but dark, depraved and twisted. That's this delicious anthology in a nutshell! Put aside any preconceived notions about your favorite heroes and villains and just buckle in for this ride.

I read all 14 stories and they are all great spins on all the fairy tales I grew up loving. These adult (VERY adult) versions will probably be everything your dark heart desires, just like mine.

I love anthologies and I was super excited to read this as there are a few to me authors in this. These authors give us their own spin on our childhood stories with a darker shade to them.

Can’t fault any of them at all. They were super great reads and I’m looking forward to reading more from them in the future.

As dark is my favourite genre I’m looking forward to reading more from each and every one of these authors. I highly recommend this anthology.

Review by Puss’n’Books. Reviewing the darkest, most erotic and taboo books we can find. Click HERE for your next disturbingly sexy read.

I am not usually a fan of short stories. I prefer a book to be at least 150 pages long. I wanna get to know the characters. The worlds. I wanna get so caught up in their lives that I can feel what they’re feeling, ye ken?
But lately, I have read a couple that changed my mind on this matter. Skylar’s Story by V.T. Bonds really was sooo good! It’s a dark, BDSM series that rocked my world!
Anyway back to this review.
I’ve never read an anthology for the above reason so I figured, “sure, give it a go”.
My feelings are mixed, lol.
Some of them were quite good and others were...not.
Obviously that’s just my personal opinion. If you like a quick and steamy read that gets your wee knickers wet then this is a book for you

I’m not going to review every story but I’ll pick a couple that stuck out.

These stories are retellings of your classic fairy tales but with a darker and naughtier theme.

The Council of Seven – Alice La Roux

This was a different take on Snow White and the Seven Dwarves and it was really good!
It was super dark and most definitely had a dubious consent feel to it.
A woman wakes up in a hospital of sorts with no memory of who she is or how she got there. There are doctors and nurses that keep an eye on her (some of them are kinda mean though) and she is very much a prisoner.
Each night she is prepped for a visitor,
Every night a different man comes to her room and feels her up, tuns her all the way on and then gives her multiple orgasms.
She has no idea why she’s as drawn to these mysterious strangers as she is but each one seems to get rougher and rougher with her and she overhears the nurses saying they are preparing her for number 7.
The story gets quite interesting after that and I really enjoyed it.
Such a cool twist at the end.

SEX SCENES

The sex was hot and well written but with it being a short story...there wasn’t enough for this kinky girl!

A warm mouth claims my nipple, while fingers taunt the other one. It’s like a sensory overload as fingers enter me, and my orgasm builds. The one between my thighs licks my clit, dragging his tongue over the sensitive nub slowly, and I can’t help myself as I reach down and fist my hand in his hair.

4 Stars

Osbourne – Anna Edwards

This one wasn’t for me.
It was a take on Robin Hood and it just didn’t do anything for me.
The fighting scenes had hoodlums on motorbikes with guns etc. but then they also had swords. And as much as I love a good old fashioned sword fight I felt that it didn’t fit in well with this story.
The daughter of a mafia boss is sent to live with her uncle (the evil Sherrif) when her father dies. She is in his custody until she comes of age, marries and produces a male heir to take over the family business.
Her uncle’s right-hand man is a bit of a hottie but also an ass-hat.
I couldn’t like him much and the whole story just felt like it didn’t fit together well.
I actually didn’t find much in the way of sex scenes to show you all. :-(

2 Stars

Saving Reli – Brooke Summers

This one was actually quite good! It’s a Cinderella kind of story complete with evil step mum and sisters.
It got really dark and had quite a bit of non-consent scenes. So if that is a trigger for you then this is one you’ll want to miss.
I really liked the poor girl in this one and justifiably hated the mum and sisters.
The hottie was particularly yummy too, lol.
Yeah, this was one of the better ones :-)

TRIGGER WARNING FOR THE BELOW EXCERPT

SEX SCENES
This is one of the darker scenes.

I cry out as she thrusts something hard into my pussy. Pain rips into me as she moves it in and out of me. Tears slip out of my eyes, I hate when she does this. "Oh my poor little virgin, yet to have a man fuck you." She laughs, "This is what a man would do to you if one could ever love you. He'd fuck you so good, you'd be screaming with pleasure.

Final Thoughts on The Dark Kingdom Anthology

I like that I got to read a little from authors that I hadn’t read before. But I don’t think I’ll be reading any more anthologies.
If you like short stories however then this is definitely worth a read!

Wow! I absolutely loved this Anthology. Dark is my favourite genre so, to have so many authors in one book write these fantastic fairytales with a dark theme, I was in my element!

I enjoyed all of the stories but there was a few that just had the edge for me. I love the fact that an anthology introduces you to author's that you would probably never read. I will be checking out these author's other books for sure! I would actually love to see a couple of these stories in a full-length novel, they were that good I wanted and needed more.

If you like a dark read then I really can't recommend this enough, you get so much in one book. A definite one click!

I loved the Dark Kingdom Anthology! It has something for everyone! From light dark to the black hole dark, these fairytales kick ass! Each one of them was entertaining and I hope for more from most of them! All these fairy tales have a distinctive twist from the originals making each author put their mark on it! I fell in love with so many mad men and so many twisted vulnerable ladies! Each story leaves it's mark and I only hope these authors continue them!

Beast by any Other Name: This book is worth the ink it was written on. The author really has out did herself with this one. I love that from the start til the end your trying to solve Pippa and Brandon’s past. I must say that Pippa is very strong and resilient. As for Brandon he is a very laid back, workaholic, but can be the devil when provoked. Then you have the beast himself who is a pretender and wants to take the Baron’s place. Above all I loved that this book had me on edge and kept my mind going 30 miles a hour trying to solve and figure out what will happen only to be shocked in the end.

I voluntarily received an ARC of the book by the Author for an honest review.

Excellent anthology!!!

Since this is a box set I'm going to break down my review by story.

THE COUNCIL OF SEVEN by Alice La Roux - 5 Stars

This is a totally messed up and twisted version of Snow White and I loved every minute of it. It's a quick, dark read that will mess with your mind in the best way possible.

OSBOURNE by Anna Edwards - 5+ Stars

Wow, what a wonderful retelling of Robin Hood. This one is about the Nottingham Mafia and I loved the characters. Mary is a strong, capable lead character and she falls for Osbourne, the man her uncle has been training to take over as leader of the mafia. Finch is Mary's friend and only wants to keep her safe, but he knows her uncle has plans for her and he doesn't trust Osbourne. This is a great read and I'd give it more than 5 Stars if I could!!!

SAVING RELI by Brooke Summers - 5 Stars

This is a retelling of the Cinderella story, except it's dark and twisted!! What a read this was, this stepmother is an absolute terror to Yoreli and John is her savior. I loved this dark, twisted tale.

PRINCE OF RUIN by Gemini Jensen - 4 Stars

This is a story that reminds me a little bit of Aladdin, but more sinister. I only gave it four stars because of how it ends, which is with the story not truly feeling finished. So I was disappointed that I didn't get the satisfaction of knowing what happens.

CAPTURED IN UNDERLAND by Isabel Lucero - 5 Stars

Loved this twisted retelling of Alice in Wonderland. Allison is barely eighteen and the Governor's daughter. To say she is under her parents thumbs would be an understatement. So when an opportunity arises for her to take a trip she jumps at the chance. She ends up on the Isle of Redquin, without truly understanding their rules she's kind of lost. This is a great read and the ending was very satisfying!!!

IN TO DEEP by Karen Frances - 4 Stars

This was an interesting story and I enjoyed it. Sophia and Mason are good for each other.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN by Krissy V - 5 Stars

Gracie is the Princess of Yugotan, her parents send her to PINC (Princesses In Need Corporation) to be hidden away and guarded while her country is under threat of war. Taylor is assigned to protect her and even though she has a penchant for ditching her bodyguards he plans on punishing her if she tries to escape him. This is a wonderful story and I truly enjoyed it.

WEB OF REJECTION by Leah Negron - 3 Stars

This one was just not my cup of tea. It's a f/f romance, it also has scenes that speak of rape that could be triggering to some readers.

A BEAST BY ANY OTHER NAME by Logan Fox - 5+ Stars

Wow, loved this twisted dark tale. Pippa Goodwin is trying to escape her problems by heading to Baron Brandon Dunnwood's estate to become his live-in nanny. Things are strange at the estate and it seems to bring into the front of each person's mind their greatest fears and secrets. Fear of being sent away has Pippa doing whatever she can to care for the Baron's child, even if not everyone approves of her methods. Brandon has his own demons and isn't sure he wants someone new in his home, but it seems Pippa is the only one who can calm his child and get her to eat. There are things from the past that don't add up and there's a beast lurking in the manor. Will Pippa discover who that beast is before it's too late? This is an excellent read. You will have to download the end of the story, it's free via bookfunnel and there is a link for that at the end of the story in this anthology.

PRINCESS AND THE CAPO by P.T Macias - 5 Stars

This was a wonderful mafia romance. Alec and Ruby have known each other most of their lives and have loved each other almost as long. Alec has secrets Ruby doesn't know and her father doesn't like him or want his daughter anywhere near him. In her last few months of high school her dad sends her away and she's not allowed to say goodbye to Alec. Five years pass and their lives change but they both still love each other. Can they get past the hurt from all those years ago? This is a wonderful story and I loved it.

KING by Raven Amor - 5 Stars

This story is dark, twisted and heart breaking. Beau "Cub" and Nera "Baby Girl" are raised in the MC together. He is the president's son and she was claimed by the club as a baby after her mom, a club girl, got pregnant. This story is intense and dark, my only complaint is it's not complete. At the end you are met with a "To Be Continued" and I'm highly disappointed by that. I only hope that the author won't keep us waiting too long for the rest of the story.

SLUMBERLAND by Samantha Fontien - 5+ Stars

This story was twisted AF and I absolutely loved it. There's lots of hot steamy scenes and the characters are wonderful. Definitely a 5+ Stars read!!!

BOUND by Sean Azinsalt - 3 Stars

This one is also not my cup of tea. It has m/m scenes and I just really didn't care for the storyline.

INNOCENCE LOST by Taylor Porter - 5 Stars

First know that some scenes could be triggering for some readers.

What a messed up story this was and I loved it. Dominic is a villainous jerk and treats his wife, Stevie, like a plaything. Then then there's Joshua who treats his woman, Red, like a queen. These two couples end up fighting for their lives because of the life the men chose. This is a great read and I truly enjoyed it.

** 4 1\2 Stars OVERALL AN ENJOYABLE BOX SET!! **

I don't even know how to start this review. I did not enjoy this anthology. I'm extremely shocked by that fact. I feel like giving it three stars in being generous.

The Council of Seven by Alicia La Roux

Alicia La Roux is a new to me author and I'm terrible sorry this is the introduction I got to her. I feel like had this just been a look inside of the book it would have been better. However, I just felt I had no idea what was going on through the entire thing, even after I finished this weird, dark twist on Sleeping Beauty I was still left wondering what even happened?

A Beast By Another Name by Logan Fox

Logan Fox's dark, twisted take on Beauty and The Beast my be the only thing that saved this anthology. I loved it! This short story was exactly what I was expecting from this anthology. Fox had me intrigued and left me needing more.

Osbourne by Anna Edwards

I really think I would have enjoyed this story more had it been longer. I feel like things were rushed and I was left wondering wth?

I often times say I don't like anthologies were I don't get the entire book because then I'm left waiting for answers, but I feel I was proven wrong. I would have much rather been left wondering what will happen than getting a complete story and feeling like I didn't like.

I had the pleasure of reading an advance copy of "A Beast by Any Other Name" by Logan Fox. I've always been a big Logan fan, so I was excited to read her version of my favorite Disney fairytale. I can always count on her to keep me on my toes and make me uncomfortable with how dark her storytelling can get. This book didn't have that dark and twisted plot until the very end, but it still kept me guessing the whole time. I honestly didn't see that twist coming though, so she got me once again!

Pippa and Brandon portray this version of Belle and Beast/Adam. But throw any preconceived notions out the window when you begin this one. They are not at all the characters you love from the Disney movie. It certainly startled me when we got to hear Pippa's inner thoughts. Those are not the ones of the Belle character I love. Regardless, I was still intrigued and wanted more. With this being such a short book, we miss out on the 'after the drama' part of their story and only get a brief glimpse into their future, which was a bit disappointing, but at least we do get a sort of HEA/HFN.

There was at least one other character in this book that I still have questions about, Ms. Potter. Her actions are still a mystery to me and I wish we had gotten more resolution as to what part she played in all that happened. I also would like to know if Pippa ever told Brandon about her past, which was such a huge deal that I kept waiting for it to come up, but it didn't. Oh well, I'll live.

I look forward to reading the rest of this anthology when it's released!

~Received an ARC addition of Innocence By Taylor Porter~

It can only mean something or someone bad is coming and I need to stay strong to get us out of this alive and in one piece.

Peter Pan is all grown-up and is a far cry from the bedtime stories we used to know!

Taylor creates a whole new Neverland with a modern twist, using characters and elements that we associate with the Peter Pan story...only with a darker, brutal and sexy twist.

I really enjoyed reading Innocence, Taylor touched on every detail and brought the characters to life. I loved the references to the original story, the little details that make it recognisable and how dark she made her version!

“Now that was worth the wait.”
“Definitely worth the wait. You’re always worth the wait to me."

I love fairy tale retellings and The Dark Kingdom Anthology definitely delivers! Dark, twisted, haunting, disturbing. These are just a few words to describe these short stories. My faves were The Council of Seven by Alice La Roux, a take on Snow White, and A Beast by any Other Name by Logan Chance. I am a fan of Beauty and the Beast and love reading retellings of this fairy tale. I freakin' loved it but OMFG I need to know more!!! I did not like how it ended but of course, when it's a cliffhanger, you don't like it cause you want to know!! All these stories were great, none of these authors hold back and they take you down the rabbit hole on an insane, wild adventure. This would be an anthology I would love to have on my shelf. Plus the cover is beautiful. 5 big stars from me!

I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie's Book Reports.

In The Dark Kingdom, villains reign supreme. Fourteen authors come together to turn your childhood stories into dark and sinful pleasures. Step into a world where everything you loved just got a lot darker. Where the line between love and taboo crosses without a second thought. Are you prepared to enter The Dark Kingdom?

This book is filled with so many great retold stories. If you love your stories on the dark side then this is the anthology you do not want to miss. I loved reading it and was so entertained by all the stories. There are dark retelling's of so many of the stories that you have been familiar with since you were a child. I thought all the stories were equally amazing and I am not going to do this long long review of every story. You just need to get this book and read it. You will love it.

BEAST BY ANY OTHER NAME by Logan Fox

An eerie, twisted tale with a dark, Gothic vibe… 4 stars

Pippa has just started a job as a nanny in an isolated, centuries-old manor house… one with no electricity or telephones, but one with an abundance of secrets and mysteries. Pippa’s hiding several secrets of her own; she’s not exactly the shy, demur young woman she appears to be. Good thing too since she’s going to need all the courage she can muster when she comes face to face with the beast of the manor.

This is a well written, dark and twisted tale of misfortune. It’s full of evil doings by evil beings and features plenty of secrets, lies, drama and suspense.

I received an Advance Reader Copy of this novella from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This book is amazing, the number of brilliant authors that are in it makes it hard to choose what to read first. Twisted fairy tales make a fun read. The wonderful thing about short stories is the fact that the author can get right into the meat of the story and this anthology was a delight.

A Beast By Any Other Name by Logan Fox caught my attention the most. The mystery and suspense, kept me glued to the pages, and honestly, I didn't want the story to end. Pippa and Brandon's actions were intriguing and my mind was reeling with so many questions. Everything was so dark and twisted and I inhaled every word.

OMG!!!! A Beast by any Other Name by Logan Fox, as part of The Dark Kingdom Anthology, was freaking FABULOUS!!!! Decadent, creepy, frightening, romantic, eerie. Just plain THE BEST BOOK EVER!!!!!! It’s the story of Pippa who is hired to care for a new-born baby, Rose. Rose is the child of Brandon.

But, there are so many secrets, destruction, hidden truths, and lots of mystery. I didn’t want this story to end….it was twisted and mesmerizing!!!! LOVED THIS STORY!!!!!! I’d give it more than five stars if I could!!!

I am volunteering to leave a review for an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Beast by Any Other Name

This was such a different book for Logan Fox but it was really great until the end. There was mystery and intrigue and a poor helpless baby. It was inevitable that Pippa and Brandon would get together but all the other details seemed to fall by the wayside. Why was Mrs Potter so mean to Pippa? What happened to her at the end? What happened to Norm? Did Pippa escape from the law for killing her husband and son. While I really enjoyed the book, I felt that something was missing and that doesn’t usually happen with Logan Fox’s s books.

The Dark Kingdom Anthology is a great collection of short stories written by 14 separate authors. If you like alternative retellings of fairytales, then this collection is for you.

The stories all range on the hotter scale of romance, but are easy to read, keep your attention and have some very strange and unexpected twists.

I throughly enjoyed the different slants on fairytales I’d come to love, and the sinister twists only added to the drama.

An ideal collection for anyone who may want to sample work by new authors, or are looking for short stories to keep them entertained.

I am not sure that I even know where to begin writing a review for this because it is truly an awesome experience.

I loved everything about it - the characters, the plot, the emotion, the writing.
The author had a tremendous ability in telling the story that had me wanting this book to go on and on.

King by Raven Amor.

This story is full of everything you would ever need in a book, Love, lust, gut wrenching heartbreak and brutal danger.
It's my first one written by Raven and MC is my favourite genre, she did not dissapoint, I was on the edge of my seat, from the very first page I was gripped.

Page by page this story broke me down, broke my heart and filled me with rage, then that explosion of an ending left me begging for more

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING

Great collection of short stories, some were "sweet" compared to some of the much darker ones that had some serious depraved things going on. I loved finding a few new authors out of this that will feed my dark soul.

Beast by Any Other Name by Logan Fox
Five AMAZING Stars

I had the pleasure of reading an ARC of Logan's contribution.

Logan's reimagining of the Disney classic is so good. She brings her signature dark twists and turns and creates something amazing. Even though it's a condensed story you are still able to understand and like the characters.

I'm honestly interested to see what the other stories are like now.
