This book is based on the old French tale about soldiers who trick miserly villagers into making them a feast, except in this book the weary traveler is a dog, and the miserly villagers are an assortment of animals, a nice story for the young ones.

I love this story, but wish this particular version had not left out so much of what makes it great.
