Lauren Landish delivers with Rough Love a beautiful, hot, romantic, second chance love story. It was the great book to end 2019 with! I liked Rough Love so much! All the characters, the family aspect and the love were amazing.
Allyson is smart, hardworking, caring and kind hearted. All her free time goes to her son, Cooper. He’s her life. Cooper is such an adorable boy. I loved how Allyson and Cooper got accepted into Bruce’s (kind of) family. Allyson had her heart broken more than once, but her feelings for Bruce are still very strong.
Bruce is hardworking, sporty, strong, helpful and caring. He loves working on the ranch, but he’s still struggling a little bit with what he discovers about his family’s past. Bruce once loved playing football, so he’s happy that he can coach little kids. He’s great at it and the kids love him. Bruce never experienced the same love he had with Allyson. He also adores Cooper.
Allyson and Bruce met each other when they were children. They became friends and spent a lot of time together. They eventually fell in love and became a couple. There were several things that caused them to break up.
A couple of years later, Allyson and Bruce see each other again. It’s clear that they have never forgotten each other and that the chemistry is still very much there. Both of them are hesitant to start a relationship again, but when they do, sparks fly. Allyson and Bruce really belong together. Always have, always will. They will become a cute, little family.
I can’t wait for the next Tannen man to get his story and to find love. I wanted that since reading Racing Hearts and liking the Tannen men then. I’m definitely happy with the first Tannen man’s love story.

DNF. Got to 30% and even skimmed through that.
I was really bored. I didn’t read the Bennett series; so that may have been the issue. I don’t know but to me, Bruse is a dull man. Allyson pretty boring too. I think I enjoyed the kids football team the best. Lots of fun and outgoing kid personality.
Can’t say I will be continuing the series.

Galloping through boredomville.
No where near as interesting as the first series this one is spun off of. There was way too much peewee football practice talk with the drills, practice yada yada.
Did not care for the heroine. She acted extremely traumatized at times over having been in a marriage before with a narcissist man who slapped her one time.
Bruce’s personality was severely lacking.
Second chance romance. Wouldn’t have been a second chance, they could have stayed together had she just communicated with him when they were younger.
Was hoping for more out of this new series spin off.
Ended up skimming a LOT of pages. Especially the football and the S ones. Boy those S chapters just didn’t bring the heat.
Hope this series gets better and more creative going forward.
Shay was the best part as a secondary character.

Bruce Tannen is a cowboy –in every sense of the word. Since losing his family’s ranch, he has worked for the Bennett family and also become a member of that family as well. One day, while driving home, he sees some kids roughhousing on the side of the road at a football practice and decides to stop and intervene. This leads to him being asked to be the assistant coach. It turns out that Bruce was a beast on the football field in high school.
During a practice, Bruce realizes that one of the kids’ mom is his former high school sweetheart, and the girl who broke his heart, Allyson. He is NONE to happy to see Allyson after all these years. Allyson is also not too crazy about seeing Bruce, but knows that he will be a football coach to her son.
I love a good second chance romance. I did like this book – but it was way too long. It would have been about 100 pages shorter and it would have been just as good.
There is one other criticism I have, and it’s a bit petty, but here it is. Bruce and Allyson both had flashbacks to when they were in love (both in high school) and making love. The dialogue, which was supposed to be between two teenagers, felt unreal. It was something people who were much older and much more experienced would do and say. Just my two cents on that.
The kids on the team were really cute, and I enjoyed that part of the story, of Bruce being the coach. He was really good with the kids.
The book has a nice ending, and I will read the next book in the series when it comes out.

Another five star read from Lauren Landish!
This one is my favorite of them all!
What a beautiful sweet story! Bruce “Brutal” Tannen is a humongous softie with a dirty mouth! Can I get a hallelujah!
I enjoyed everything about this story. It’s a second chance with such a beautiful emotional story that you won’t want to put it down. Bruce’s love for Allyson comes through the pages and will fill your heart.
Seeing the “NEW” family dynamics is entertaining and I love their new normal!
We get every thing we love in a romance. And so much MORE!
Highly recommended.

Second chance for Allyson and Bruce, devoted to each other until she left for college and everything changes.
Their relationship ended because she was convinced he was cheating based on his impatience on the telephone, not wanting to hear about her classes or what was going on with her. He, instead was getting tutored to be able to join her while she was being fed long-distance misinformation about his involvement with someone else.
Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation as a person plants seeds of doubt, making the focus of their attention, question their memory, perception, and sanity. That was her marriage to Jeremy. Years of a narcissist playing cruel mind games to orchestrate events to convince her of her instability. He isolated her from everyone including her parents, until she began second-guessing everything in her life.
“It started out small, even funny at first. I’d set my glasses down by the computer where I was working and go get a drink. I’d come back and they’d be moved. He’d laugh at how forgetful I was, ‘Ha-ha, you can’t even keep up with glasses, silly girl,’ and it was a little enough thing that I believed him.
He would bump into her or squeeze her fingers painfully when they held hands. He convinced her that she was clumsy and high-strung.
‘He was yelling, and I was numbly tuning him out, only listening for the tone changes that signaled things were going to get better or worse but not hearing the words. He grabbed my arm and spun me around, pointing in my face. I can see his face twisted in rage, white spittle gathered at the corners of his mouth, but I can’t hear the words, not in my memories. I guess I wasn’t reacting the way he wanted because he reared back and slapped me across the face.
In the moment, he seemed horrified and apologized, said work was stressing him out and he promised it’d never happen again. He was sitting there at the table, reading the paper as usual. He told me good morning like everything was fine, just a normal day like any other, and I thought we’d gotten past it. Until I turned around and he screamed in shock, jumping in his chair. ‘What happened to your face?’ he asked me, pointing at what I later realized was a pretty ugly bruise along my cheekbone.”
Bruce references a hamster running in her head, five times. The term ‘overthinking’ could have been substituted rather than the over-used term.
Bruce and herself reconnect when he sees some young boys roughhousing and stop to intercede. That intervention changes his life since the coach recognises him and invites him as his assistant to a group of young boys. One of the boys, Cooper, is Allyson’s son and his past love.
Initially resentful, he overcomes the anger and regret as they rediscover the adult versions of themselves.
Minor drama, no outside forces that get in the middle...even his most resistant brother gets on the ABC (Allyson-Bruce-Cooper) train.
There is no drama, cheating or other people for either of them.

Rough Love by Lauren Landish a five-star read that will save you. This is the first novel in the Tannen Boys series, it is a spin off from the Bennett Boys series, but they can be read separately, but I have to be honest I have loved them all. This time we get to see more of Bruce Tannen and we get to get underneath his skin, and we get to see what made him into Brutal Tannen football player extraordinaire. Bruce shows us his hidden heart, he shows us just because you are named Brutal doesn’t mean you have to be savage. Allyson Meyers has a past, and when no one else will step up she will do what she needs to help her son grow and do what he wants. This is a great story and one that shows us what love can do.

Got to love Mama Louise making the Bennett and Tannen one big happy family even if the guys done a lot grunting. Bruce Tannen never though he would see his high school sweetheart again after she broke up with him years ago when he was a senior in high school. Bruce didn't know that agreeing to help coach a pee wee football team would bring him face to face with Allyson Meyers the girl he gave his heart to all those years ago. Allyson didn't think Bruce would still be in their hometown. What a reunion that Allyson prefers to run away from. She is a grown up and can handle seeing Bruce again if it will make her little boy Copper happy so he can play football. The sparks fly in the park and words are say that have them both thinking about the past. It was a miss understanding that they broke up years ago and neither one was mature enough being teenagers to find for each other. However, Allyson is not her sunny self. This is because of the nightmare she lived with her ex-husband. She has become a shell of herself. Bruce offers Allyson a way to help her fight her demons and bring life back to her again. Although, she doesn't let Bruce know the whole story of the nightmare she lived at first. He even tells Allyson she can just use him for however long and throw him away if that what it takes for her to be happy again, even if it will break his heart all over again. Will Allyson let Bruce know about her past for her to move forward? Can they have a second chance at love they were robbed from them years ago? I loved Lauren’s ‘Bennett Boys Ranch’ series, and this spin off series,’Tannen Boys’, is off to a flying start with Bruce Tannen’s story. We met all those grouchy Tannen boys in the Bennett series, and I loved them. All three of the Tannen brothers are rough and ready, using their fists first, and asking questions later, but oh my, they’re a lovable, protective bunch, and that includes Bruce Tannen, a potty mouthed, hard as nails farmer who never discusses feelings. When he comes across a bunch of 8 year old kids at a football practice being a little bit too rough and tumble, he wasn’t expecting to become their football coach, but it happens, and we get to see he’s actually a bit of a softie at heart. It’s not too long before he finds out that the mother of one of these boys is the son of his childhood sweetheart, his one true love, Allyson Meyers. A fun read, those Bennett and Tannen boys are so rough around the edges, in the best possible way. I loved the family moments on the ranch, in the bar, and at the dinner table. Mama Louise sure knows how to keep them all in line, with some hilarious repercussions. Allyson and her super sweet son Cooper are soon taken under her wing, but Allyson has a lot of demons to contend with, as much as she wants Bruce, she’s not sure she can deal with more heartache or hurt. A wonderful story, fantastic characters and everything I could ever want in a romance novel. I was addicted from the get-go. Second chance romance at its best. It is entirely possible to read this new series independently, it does however give you a better understanding of all the characters if you’ve read the Bennett boys beforehand. All the books in both series are standalones.

When we met the Tannen brothers, in the Bennet Boys books, you were prepared to hate them for life!
This is the story of Bruce (Or Brutal) a Cowboy and a farmer who lost the love of his life 10 years ago. He just worrks on the farm, the the Bennets now own and helps his sister out. He happens to notice a group of larger boys picking on a smaller boy, in a park and that just doesn't sit right with him. After breaking up the fight, The coach of the team recognizes him from high school and asks him to please help coach the Pee Wee football.
The mother of the boy being picked on, just happens to be the girl who broke Bruce's heart 10 years ago. The tension between these two is so thick you can cut it with a knife!
Allyson (the mother) has moved backed to town to start a new life. She has no idea that Bruce is still living there. She has walls so high around her, it's amazing that her son's love can penetrate her fortress.
This is a great book about misunderstatings, second chances and standing up for the person that you want to be. I loved the way that Alpha Bruce let Allyson "Take control" of how things would proceed between and allow her to unfurl her wings on her own.
I loved how the Bennets and the Tannens are starting to mesh and become a "clan"

Bruce is a perfect mix of a grump alpha man sexy! I fell head over booty for Bruce, Allyson, and too smart for his own good Cooper!

Holy Mother of God! I really, really feel the need to give this book way more than five measly stars.
I thought I loved those Bennett boys but Bruce "Brutal" Tannen, yes, please and thank you.
When Bruce pulled into the park after seeing some unfair play by a bunch of boys, supposedly playing football, he had no clue that he was about to be reunited with a long lost love from high school.
Dang, this book was just freaking fan-damn-tastic. I binged this book so hard. I feel like it took me forever to read because I kept having to save my place on my Kindle because, damn you work obligations and having to pay bills.
This book has everything and then some and I just loved Cooper.
A total must read if have read about the Bennetts and need to no more about those broody Tannen's next door.

I love a powerfully emotional read and this book sure was one. Your own heart will definitely but put through its paces as Bruce and Allyson's story unfolds. The tension is thick and the chemistry steamy but there is also a strong underlaying level of sweetness to this angst filled tale. My heart ached for both of the characters in this moving second chance romance. These two have plenty of baggage that must be addressed and dealt with on the road to a HEA. All thoughts and opinions in this review are entirely my own.

Now I have read this author before and I do have to say that for ME it's a hit or miss with her books. I can't tell you each specifically what it was but at some of them like this one, I just couldn't connect fully, maybe little more towards the end but I was a little lost when ti came to the relationship between the hero and heroine. They have history and this is a 2nd chance romance, also a enemy-to-lovers which both are my favorite but their dynamic at the beginning left me confused as to what is going on because one minute they hated one another with passion and the next they want to bang each other's brains out. It left a lot unsettled for me until I learned the reason, closer to the 50% and even after that, it just felt like a ping pong between them two. I don't know exactly but I think the beginning is what put me off a little. I really wanted to give this a 4.5 stars but have to go with my gut and be true to myself and my reviews, no matter what the outcome. I will be reading more, lord knows the one's I love I LOVE!

I am so freaking in love with Bruce! Right from the beginning the man that they refer to as "Brutal", a nickname from his high school football days, shows you the kind of heart that he has by stopping at a park when he sees a smaller kid getting picked on! Later on, when he gets to his love interest who also happens to be his high school sweetheart who ripped his heart to shreds, he tries to be a jerk to her, but he just can't seem to make that last. The problem with Allyson is that she thought he ripped her heart to shreds (you have to love this young love misunderstandings) and when she moves on, it was not in the greatest of directions. So now Bruce has his work cut out for him trying to make her see that they belong together and that he loves her son and wants to make them a family.
Now the thing about this book is that if you read the books about the Bennett brothers, you go into this thinking that the Tannen boys are not all that nice and, especially with the way that had taken advantage of their sister, you wonder how any of them will do with having an actual woman of their own.... or at least I did. Now seeing these men from this side of the fence, I can not wait to see what happens with the other 2 boys!

We’ve been waiting patiently for this series to start and I have to say it was worth the wait. Bruce had it all once and the one girl he gave his heart to crushed it when she left him high and dry. Change is good and it’s all around Bruce now, he’s working on what was his family's ranch and he’s content until Allyson comes back to town. She’s not the same girl she once was, she took a path that led her away from the one person she loved the most and all she wants is to feel again. When they lock eyes Bruce knows something is different about her and he wants to find out what that might be, but is he ready to open up his heart again to Allyson for fear she break it again? I guess you will have to read for yourself to find out. Solid read, loved it and can’t wait for more. I received a copy of this book.

Book one in the Tannen Boys series and was an entertaining story which is narrated by Tor Thom and Carly Robbins who portray Bruce (Brutal) Tannen and Allyson Meyer. This is a second chance at love story that ticked the boxes for me.
Allyson is the woman who walked away but now fate puts them in one another’s path again. Bruce is shocked at how much she has changed, she is a former shadow of herself and he is disturbed. The struggle whether to help Allyson is very real. Can they work it out this time and in doing so forgive and come to terms with the past?
This was a steamy, at times emotional and heart warming story and one that I enjoyed. The narrators did a great job bringing the story to life for me.

I think I need to reevaluate Cowboy romance because sweet lord was Bruce a little slice of dirty talking heaven. His mouth was FIRE. I enjoyed watching this spin on a former star football player and cheerleader getting their second chance. Allison and Bruce together were perfect in both the past and ten years later.
I feel like I should have read the Bennet series before this one, even though this was a standalone, in order to get the dynamics of this family. There are several times that history is mentioned. Even though it didn't hamper this story, I think it would have made me like it even more.

Initially, Bruce plans to avoid her, but it’s difficult when they still have that connect they had years ago. He tries to be cold with her, but then Allyson is forced to become the Coach on paper, while Bruce gets sidelined to assistant coach so they have to work together. With her son Cooper around, Bruce finds them easily lovable and falls in love with her all over again. However, she has issues trusting him because of her history with her ex-husband, slowly she learns to trust him and becomes the best version of herself along her boys.

I wish they hadn’t broken up because of a miscommunication years ago, it was so unnecessary and a big misunderstanding. He thought she broke up with him for no reason, and she thought he cheated. When he went to fight for her, he saw her with Jeremy, her soon to be husband, and left it at that. I wish he had fought for her, if he loved her so much.. why was it so easy to walk away. It would have avoided her toxic and abusive relationship, but I know she doesn’t regret it because it gave her Cooper and she adores him.
Bruce was so mean to her at first, but I understand that he was hurt over how things ended between the two. It doesn’t make it okay, but he quickly stopped acting like that when she called him out. He was willing to fall in love with again and try for them to get a second chance, he never failed to include Cooper and I love him for that. He was very accepting of her child and he was always defending her, he simply wanted the best for her. While his brother was shitty to Al, he stopped him always and made sure to tell him that it was his choice to be with her. She made him happy and he wanted to be apart of her family. I love how he showed her how to let her guard down so she can love again, especially trust a man. He indicated that she didn’t have to do everything alone, but she was still a strong and capable woman.
Al is my favorite girl, she deserves the world and I hate that her ex-husband put her through so much shit. He was toxic and emotionally abusive, and gaslighted her so many times that she didn’t know what was real. Fortunately, she was able to find herself again, with the help of Bruce and form healthy relationships with loved ones. She was able to be a version of herself that she loved, and who wasn’t constantly terrified. Al is such a strong fmc and always had the ability to shut things down 💞🤞🏽

There was never a dull moment when these two around and Bruce was always calling them out, but he still loves the boys. Cooper was also super supportive of Coach B’s relationship with his mom and never had anything negative to say. Children in books are often a concern for single parents because they might be against a relationship for their parent, but Cooper was all for it. He was the best little kid and he was just not problematic at all 🫶 I would read this book again for him and Liam. PeeWee moments were present in this book A LOT but I didn’t mind

There was never a dull moment when these two around and Bruce was always calling them out, but he still loves the boys. Cooper was also super supportive of Coach B’s relationship with his mom and never had anything negative to say. Children in books are often a concern for single parents because they might be against a relationship for their parent, but Cooper was all for it. He was the best little kid and he was just not problematic at all 🫶 I would read this book again for him and Liam. PeeWee moments were present in this book A LOT but I didn’t mind
𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥𝐥, this book was cute and I liked the development between the two especially because it took a while for them to trust each other again. I would read this again someday if I got the chance.

Bruce and Allyson were high school sweethearts. They had planned on a future together, but things don’t always work out the way you plan. Things ended badly between the two lovebirds, leaving them both broken hearted.
After a failed marriage, Allyson came back to Great Falls with her son, Cooper. They’ve been back for a few years. However, it wasn’t until Cooper wanted to play football that Allyson’s past smacked her in the face. Cooper’s been talking non-stop about the new assistant coach. Imagine her surprise when it’s none other than the man that broke her heart, Bruce ‘Brutal’ Tannen. But he’s obviously misremembered things as he thinks she’s the one that broke his heart!
Unfortunately, a change in schedule for the head coach forces him to step down and make Allyson the head coach, as Bruce has no kids on the team. The jilted ex-lovers are forced to work together for the sake of the kids. As the two spend time together old feelings come forth once again. However, events occur that force Allyson to deal with demons from her past. Is Bruce’s love enough to pull her from the abyss or is the couple forever doomed for heartbreak?
I enjoy Landish’s writing and this book was no different. And, let me tell you I desperately needed a good book to lose myself in as I’ve had my share of stinkers of late. Sadly, I didn’t realize this was a spin-off of Landish’s Bennett Boys Ranch series (that I haven’t finished) when I started reading it. Even so, this book gives you enough details that you can easily read it without feeling lost. And, I really enjoyed being reunited with the Bennett boys and catching up with their lives.
“Katelyn blows Cindy Lou a kiss with a big “Mwah! You wanna stay with Auntie Katelyn tonight, sweet girl?”
Cindy Lou smiles, kicking her pink-striped stock-covered feet, and then returns the kiss. Except it’s more like she blows a raspberry, and orange baby food goes everywhere, getting all over James and dribbling down Cindy Lou’s chin.
“Sum of a bifch!” he shouts in shock, disgust wrinkling his brow. “Oh gawd, it’s in ma mouf! I ‘eed a ‘apkin!”
We’re all fighting back laughter as Sophie, who hasn’t missed a beat of her own dinner, hands him a paper towel. To his credit, he wipes his daughter down first then scrubs at his own face.
“Language,” Mama Louise corrects.
You’d think she’d give up on that by now. We’re all pretty rough around the edges, even though we have some decent manners. The language rule just doesn’t seem to be one that stuck … to any of us. Hell, I’ve even heard the girls go off worse than any of us boys before, depending on the topic and their level of excitement or fury. Mama Louise’s fighting a losing battle on a sinking ship, but she combats every instance in her presence and says what we do when she’s not around is something we’ll have to make our own peace with.
“I think it was warranted, Mama. Do you know how gross those carrots are? Blech,”
I love second chance romances and I completely ate this book up with a spoon. I didn’t want to stop reading it and I really enjoyed my visit to Great Falls.
I enjoyed Bruce and Allyson. And Cooper too! Although at times, I felt Cooper was written a bit older than the eight years old he was supposed to be. It was fun ‘seeing’ Bruce interact with the kids. He was really good with them.
And, Allyson’s ex was a real piece of work! But honestly I was expecting him to have done more physically than he did, based on Allyson’s behaviors.
This was a good novel, but I will have to finish the Bennett boys books before continuing this series, even though they can be read as stand-alones!
And, I will leave you with a song that seems fitting for this book, Get Up by Shinedown.

I don’t even know where to start… I am truly at a loss of words!
These characters, Allyson and Bruce, are just everything… strong and endearing personalities, despite the scars that life has inflicted on them.
Their second-chance romance is a roller coaster ride… two steps forward, one step back.
They have to fight their way back to each other and their journey made me laugh out loud at times and tear up at other times… and everything in between.
Ms. Landish has a way with words that gets me time and again. She creates characters that are utterly relatable and genuine, and plots that are twisted enough to maintain the tension throughout the story, with quite some bumps to overcome along the way. She is a skillful master of subtle words with a clear and honest message to anyone who wants to read between the lines..
This is the perfect start to her new series and it is awesome to get back in touch with familiar characters from the related Bennett Boys Ranch series, though you do not have to read that series first.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy "ROUGH LOVE" This was a fantastic second chance at love romance has all the feels you are rooting for Allyson Myers and Bruce Tanner to come full circle they are so meant to be.
Allison and Bruce were an item 10yrs ago when she left him heartbroken he was a football player nicknamed "Brutal" but now he's a farmhand on what use to be his family's land.
Allison returns to town with a little surprise in tow her son Cooper but she has changed she's not the same girl Bruce use to know she has no light in her eyes something has happened to take it away.
This is such a good story with all the Tanner Brothers and of couse Mama Louise who keeps them under control she's fabulous and she takes Allyson and Conner under her wing something she desperately needs.
I definitely recommend to this book so well worth the read the characters are so well developed they pull you right in lije your right there this one series you definitely get all the stories are amazing Lauren Landish did a terrific job writing this series and you'll love all the "TANNER MEN"
