Well, color me gobsmacked! Had you told me that I would actually enjoy a Christmas story that begins with a suicide, I would have laughed at you. However, that is exactly what happened with this novella. Kudo’s to the author who managed to pull that off.

Nicholas (not sure I learned his last name), Earl of Darby, does not celebrate Christmas and hasn’t for the last five years. Not since his wife, Alice, committed suicide

Sissy's Romance Book Review
Earl of Darby by Aubrey Wynne is part of the Wicked Earl's Club and the Once Upon a Widow Series. This is the story of Nicholas, the Earl of Darby and Hannah Pendleton. I did feel this could be a standalone book if you wish to do so.
Nicholas doesn't have trust anymore nor does he enjoy the holiday season after the death of his wife on their wedding night. The only person he holds true and dear is his sister. But when his friend asked him to keep an eye on his sister Hannah, who along with his s

The story is well written, entertaining and holds your attention. Darby learned on his wedding night that his new wife was not a virgin, had bern raped by a member of society and was pregnant. The Earl of Darby (Wicked Earl’s Club) (Wicked Earl’s Christmas) is the fourth book in the Once Upon a Widow Series by Aubrey Wynne. I am really loving this historical romance series- they just seem to get better and better with each new release. There is plenty of drama, action, a little danger, some humorous moments, suspense, second chances, secrets, lies, intrigue, historical detail, passion, a little mystery, and of course- a wonderful romance.

Earl of Darby (Wicked Earls' Club) (Once Upon A Widow Book 4) by Aubrey Wynne is a Christmas tale steeped in tragedy, but it is also a romance that is fun and will make you laugh at the Aunts view of the world and her charm. It is very well written and captures your heart and steal your emotions.

The Earl of Darby has lived the last five years as a rake after the horror he faced. He is also on the hunt for the one monster who caused his pain and the pain of so many others. However, he is called u

This story started off with a heartwrenching scene and did not let up until the end. Nicholas, the Earl of Darby experienced a tragedy that was beyond compare when his new wife committed suicide on their wedding night. It sets the stage for how Nicholas lived his life for the next few years and how he was determined to find and get vengeance for what caused her death.
Hannah Pendleton was determined to shine on her first season after being disappointed that her childhood crush had married. Hannah
Well written regency novella with likeable and believable characters falling in love despite their personal tragedies in the past. This was a quick (160 pages) read with a very forgettable story, but well executed.

An emotional Regency romance, this novella comprises shades of light and dark as the Earl of Darby deviates from his mission to chaperone and protect Miss Hannah Pendleton during the season. Fortunately, his own sister is also making her debut and the two girls quickly become friends. Unfortunately, Nicholas' investigation has not gone unnoticed and Hannah soon finds herself in the crosshairs of a man who considers himself untouchable. Hannah's outrageous aunt brings some light relief to this fa ...more

This is my review of the audio version as posted on Audible:

That's my first book in the series and I'd say it's a 3.5 star story with a really good narration.
I like the main characters; Hannah is warm and caring, able to look behind the mask a person wears in public; Nicholas is hurt, honorable and equally caring under the mask of a rake everyone takes him for. They suit each other really well...

As reviewed at Roses Are Blue:

Five years ago, before he inherited the title of earl, Nicholas agreed to an arranged marriage to Alice, which would save his family financially. Nicholas’s father had just lost a fortune gambling, and Nicholas hopes that eventually he and Alice will come to love each other. On their wedding night, Nicholas is shocked that his bride is no innocent, and infuriated when she tells him that she is pregnant due to an attack from a powerful man. N

The story opens with an unbearable scene. There is crying, sobbing, apologies, begging for forgiveness and anger. When all is said and done there is a suicide. The note left behind explained it all. Racked with guilt, Nicholas, Earl of Darby has spent the last five years cultivating his life as a rake. At the same time he also hired a former Bow Street Runner to assist him dogging the person to blame for the suicide, the Duke of Colvin. So far they could not formally charge the Duke with any typ ...more

Earl of Darby is the fourth book in Aubrey Wynne’s Once Upon A Widow series. It’s a historical romance with a bit of tragedy and mystery thrown in. The eponymous hero, Nicholas the Earl of Darby, is haunted by his fateful marriage that ended with his wife’s death on their wedding night. He is seeking revenge, struggling to trust any women after being lied to by his mother, and is generally a bit of a mess.
Hannah is more than a match for Nicholas and, when she is in danger of meeting a similar fa

People were not always what they seemed. It could be a terrible sin against a person to set one’s mind against them because of what they appeared to be.

I’ve always loved unexpected attraction between wicked heroes and even more wicked heroines and Nicholas and Hannah make a fantastic couple. Nicholas just has to get past his guilt about his dead wife and Hannah needs to get over her childhood crush.

Well read but not opinionated, kind but witty with a good humor, and optimistic but practic

Earl of Darby by Aubrey Wynne’s is the fourth book in Once Upon A Widow series or twenty first book in Wicked Earls’ Club series AND it is a Christmas story! I have read Aubrey’s work before so I knew that it should be good but in no universe did I imagine that her historical Christmas story would start with a suicide AND she pulled it off!
We have Earl of Darby and he has not celebrated Christmas for the last five years, since his wife committed suicide on their wedding night that was Christmas

On their wedding night, Nicholas realized he was not the first to have relations with his new wife, Alice. Then she tearfully told him she was pregnant after being raped. Because it would be his word against hers, her mother told her to remain silent and Nicholas’ mother agreed in order to get the dowry funds they needed after her husband gambled away a large sum of money. Nicholas was devastated. He had been used, betrayed by his own mother and his new wife.

Earl of Darby was a great 5 star read and book 4 in the Once Upon A Widow series.

We start out with a heartbreaking tragedy that left Nicholas reeling with all that was revealed. This tragedy has made a big impact on him and the fact he doesn’t celebrate christmas. He has built up walls and has avoided women as well.

Hannah is getting ready for her first season. She has her sights set on one specific man, Gideon, however when she finds out he has eyes on someone else she is devastated. When her b

This is apparently my 2nd Christmas story. Hehehe. And I didn’t even notice. Thanks NetGalley for that.

This book historical regency romance, the 4th in its series. It’s a light and quick read, about Hannah and her brother’s best friend, Nicholas. But she was half in love with the other best friend till then. Formula but hey, it works. And sometimes you look for formula. 😊 I do sometimes.

Thank you @aubreywynne for the copy of this book. I’d thank the publisher but not sure who it is. Self publish
