Blackwater Pack #6

Claimed By My Pretend Boyfriend

Rate this book
I can't believe it's come to this...

It was your classic case of opposites. I was the football star; he was the class clown that put itching powder in my jockstrap. I'm laid back; he's in-your-face loud. I've told everyone for years that I hate him... but hate has an opposite, too.

His name is Tripp. He's a social media star. And he's so damn vibrant he makes my teeth ache.

And I need to ask him for a favor.

My parents are coming to town. The same social climbing idiots who disowned me when I refused to go into something 'prestigious', like medicine or law. The same parents that made my grandmother so upset when they called the other day that she bragged about my new celebrity boyfriend.

I don't have a boyfriend, celebrity or otherwise.

Now my parents are coming back to town, intent on meeting my nonexistent partner. I just want to get through this visit, appease their pride, and watch them go away again.

If Tripp will play pretend for me, maybe we can make it through this visit without bloodshed. And if my inner wolf will settle down, maybe I won't have to wonder whether he's my fated mate or not...

Welcome to Blackwater, Montana - a small town with a big personality, where shifters and humans coexist. Claimed By My Pretend Boyfriend is a dual point of view shifter novel with mentions of mpreg and a guaranteed happy ending. The sixth and final in this series, this book can also be read as a standalone.

DNF. I made it to chapter 7. I didn't like either character as they acted way too juvenile. They are grown men and not in high school any longer.

Decker Savage and Tripp Ingram have known each other since they were kids in school. Growing up, Tripp was the class clown, always looking for the next opportunity to prank his crush, Decker. He was the proverbial thorn in Deck’s side, trying to get his attention. But, the laid back jock, was oblivious to Tripp’s interest. He just thought Tripp was annoying with all of his attention-seeking antics.

They wound up in shockingly similar positions as adults despite their differences. Tripp became a Yoga instructor with a cool yurt studio, and an impressive following for the instructional videos he posts online. Meanwhile, Decker became a football coach and personal trainer who also uploads instructional videos online for his followers. Together, they’re both incredibly successful in their careers and online.

That begs the question, how do they wind up getting together for their happily ever after? Simple. Decker’s sweet Nona might have told his pretentious parents he was dating someone famous to keep them from disrupting their lives. You see, Decker's estranged from his parents. They wanted him to have a distinguished career worthy of bragging about and, in their opinion, being a coach and personal trainer doesn’t cut it. They’re concerned he’s spending the money they’re sending him on a ‘party boy’ lifestyle, and are insisting they pay a visit to make sure everything is in order.

The problem with Nona’s claim is Deck only knows one person who could be considered famous, and that someone is Tripp. If he doesn’t bite the bullet and ask Tripp for help, his parents will cut off the money which can’t happen because he uses it to take care of his Nona. So, Deck takes the plunge. When he does, Tripp couldn’t be happier about the request to play Deck’s pretend partner. He’s had a thing for Deck since school and he’s hoping something more will come from the arrangement. Perhaps if they spent time getting to know each other Deck will realize they’re good together. Little does he know, his hopeful wishing is about to become reality.

Together, the two men get to know each other on a deeper level. The time they spend together is all in the name of making their relationship believable. But, along the way, things begin to shift until they’re no longer faking it. Even with Deck’s meddling mother trying to destroy what they have, they come out on top of it all.

With this sort of trope, I can either take it or leave it. I don’t have a lady-bone for fake boyfriends like a lot of other people do. Though, I do find it enjoyable from time to time. I have to admit this was a sweet fake boyfriend story that I thoroughly enjoyed.

At first, I was a bit confused by Deck’s parents sending him money. If he was disowned, why would they even bother? But, after the conversation he has with his dad, it made sense. His dad wasn’t nearly as bad as his wretched mother, but he did come across as spineless which made me like him a lot less.

I found this story both sweet and engaging. There were moments when the characters came across as immature. But, if you give them a chance you’ll see just how mature they really are. They put their relationships and careers before starting a family. To me, that means they were trying to build a strong foundation before starting their family.

I’d also like to point out that this is my first ever Aleks Esquire audiobook. I wasn’t sure what to expect with him, but I liked his reading style. He throws himself into the narrating which makes the character more interesting and the story more vivid.

Overall, I think if you like the Blackwater Pack series, Liam Kingsley, and/or Aleks Esquire, give this book a chance. It’s a fun addition to the rest of the Blackwater series. I’d for sure recommend this book to anyone into mpreg, m/m romance, and shifters.

After getting addicted to BL Thai shows. I found my self looking for MM stories that will be sort of like the shows. Well, I didn't find any. SO next, I looked for sexy MM story who isn't written by women, but by men.
I got to this one.
Actually, I liked the story very much. Ill admit, I don't know the Alpha and Omega genre. But I like the concept of the story. There is nothing more that I love than enemy to lovers and this story had a big potential- I would have love to know more about their high school days. I would have love to see the angst and the pranks of a high school boys.
Here I think that the author missed. I would have love the before parts more than the after chapters that the author shoved us.

3.5 stars from me

This was my favorite of the series, by far. I thought the dynamic between the two MC's was so fun. I loved Decker's grandmother, Nona. I really liked that there wasn't a lot of angst, that Decker accepted right away that Tripp was for him and he didn't push Tripp away or deny the feelings he was feeling. I loved that the two put their careers and relationship first and WAITED to have a kid. I loved how Decker stood up to his mother. This was a fun read. That's why I gave it 4 stars.

With that being said, I have to point out some issues because this is the 6th book in the series and they are books that have been out there for some time now and these issues have not gone away. I don't really take editing and grammar issues into account much with my reviews, but I know that it annoys some people and I would hate for someone to read this book and give it a terrible review based on editing alone, so here is your warning: There are numerous editing issues, and they're prevalent through the whole series. Issues like using "cub" instead of "pup" when talking about young WOLF shifters. If these were bear shifts, cub would fit, but they are wolf shifters and therefore, they are pups. Issues with inconsistencies. For example, in the first book of the series, pregnancies were 6 months long. In the last book, it went down to 2 months. This book, it went up to 75 days, which is just over 2 months.

Also, there are a huge number of incomplete sentences. Here are a few: "Come on in guys, Nash is out back, getting his" and "It wasn't lust or love, it was just a silly" and another "he grinned, but didn't meet my" and "threw some herb leaves on top, and put it besides."

I honestly believe this could be a really good series if the author would just find a good editor.

*Audio Review*

I haven't read or listened to the other books in this series, but I was still able to enjoy this story as a standalone. Tripp and Decker weren't my favorite characters ever, but I didn't hate them. I didn't like the choice this narrator made for Tripp's voice, and I do think that's part of the reason I didn't warm up to him as the story went on. Decker was alright, but I thought he was a bit of a pushover for going along with the fake boyfriend charade as soon as his Nona suggested it. That entire aspect of the story felt a little weird to me, if I'm being completely honest. I've read other stories with the fake boyfriend trope and enjoyed them, but there was just something off here and I can't put my finger on what it is. That being said, the energy and banter between the main characters was entertaining. Tripp and Decker are the kind of couple that doesn't take themselves too seriously, always telling stories and joking with each other, and I really appreciate that. Once they were together as a real couple and the fated mates bond kicked in, the story pushed a little too far into lovey-dovey territory for me. There was a bit of stereotypical "omega is good with kids and wants a baby", and the thing about yoga techniques allowing a natural birth seemed far-fetched, but nothing I had a huge issue with. This story doesn't stray too far from the typical alpha/omega romance, and there was nothing particularly shocking or unexpected here, but it was still a solid story with good entertainment value.

**I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I always love stories with the fake boyfriend trope and it is very well handled here. Decker and his grandmother are financially dependent on Decker's rich, nasty, controlling parents (although Dad turns out to be a stand up guy). They want him to stop doing videos and do something "real" like go to med school. Grandma tries to help the situation by telling Decker's mother he has a celebrity boyfriend. Mom likes the sound of that and decides to come visit and meet said boyfriend. The only problem is, there isn't one. Fortunately for Decker, a famous video yoga star that he knows from high school does live in town. The two have been dancing around each other for years and in high school were more like enemies that friends with their pranks and picking on each other. Tripp agrees to help and as this title blatantly gives away, it is fated mates time. It is clear very early that these two belong together and there is a wonderful scene where Decker reads the riot act to his mom, chooses Tripp and HEA and babies ensue. It was great to see characters from earlier books again and just as an indication of how much they have become old friends, I was worried in the first chapter when Nash was drinking again. The alcohol abuse problem seems to have been solved, but that scene distressed me and I worried about him all through the book. Fortunately, he and Holden and the kids are still blissfully happy. This completes the series for me, but I hope we eventually get more visits to Blackwater.

A fun relationship to read with two men, Decker and Tripp, who have known each other since childhood but have slightly different opinions on how good their relationship is. They now work past that as Decker asks Tripp to be his fake boyfriend after his Nan let slip to his mother that he had a celebrity boyfriend, which Tripp is in his own right as a Youtube yoga instructor/prankster. Who would have guessed how much they would actually get along once Tripp stopped trying to prank Decker and Deck paid attention to his true feelings.
There's a definite undercurrent of attraction, right from the start. Tripp has always crushed on Deck and Deck has denied anything ever being there. It doesn't take long for a friendship to build when they actually get to know each other and the feelings start very quickly. I really disliked Decker's mother but it's more than made up for with his awesome Nana. She is fun, loving and fully supportive of her grandson.
This is a low angst romance but well worth reading as we go from a slight enemy status, at least in Decker's eye, to a fake relationship to fool Decker's parents to some very real feelings along with true mate status. It is a really enjoyable read, time is spent with the MC's together but also taking time for their friends as well and it's an easy relationship to read.
I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.

Decker and Tripp have running around each other's periphery since school days.
Tripp is a sassy, snarky prankster while Decker is calm, thoughtful and reliable.
In other words, complete opposites.
Well, you know what they say, opposites attract and with good reason.
Decker's Nonna makes a dig to his horrible social ladder climbing mother about his fabulous new boyfriend ( who doesn't exist)
Now he's scrambling to find one in order to maintain financial support from his mother which he desperately needs to provide for his Nonna.
He reaches out to Tripp who jumpsa at the opportunity.
When they reconnect, sparks fly between them as the embers of attraction from their younger years burst into a scorching flame and suddenly the lines between real and fake are irrevocably blurred.
Once they both got on board with making this relationship a reality, they both worked very hard and in a mature manner to progress together know what was right for them when they deemed fit for themselves
The pranks lead to plenty of laugh out loud moments and I absolutely cheered for Decker when Tripp's love helped him to be courageous in the face of his horrible mother's continuous onslaught against his life choices and finally stand up to her.

Claimed by My Pretend Boyfriend is the sixth book in the Blackwater Pack series by author Liam Kingsley. I liked this story a lot, it is sweet and straight forward kind of story. This story is written in dual pov.
Tripp is a yoga instructor; he is pretty famous on the internet. He came from nothing to make something of himself. He has always had a crush on Decker.
Decker is a coach. He is kind and not into yoga at all. He is into looking at Tripp. He comes from money but gives it too his Nona. He is kind and loving.
When Decker needs a pretend boyfriend to get his parents off his back, he asks Tripp to help him. Tripp says yes and then they really get to know each other. I loved watching them find out things about the other person. The werewolf part of this story works too. I think it added another layer to the love story. This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. If you like a good sweet love story this is the book to pick up.

I truly enjoyed reading this sweet Mpreg wolf shifter romance with an “enemies to lovers” undertone & can be read as a standalone. There are a few spelling & typo errors but it is not too distracting. It has a entertaining plot with no violence or physical conflict. The characters have interesting complex personalities that continue to develop throughout the story-line. There is good support from the secondary characters especially Grandma Nona.
There is: a male wolf shifter (Decker) approaches another male wolf shifter (Tripp) to be his pretend boyfriend in order to get his demanding mother (Charlotte) off his back but things do not go according to his plans & the attractions flare, some twists, intrigue, drama, mild deceit, humor, wolf shifters, family issues, friendship, surprises, advice, fated mates, humor, memories, vindictiveness, confrontations, ultimatums, declaration, love, contentment, steamy scenes, & a well-deserved happy conclusion.

Not a lot of angst but these two high school buds always were playing pranks on each other and now one is desperate to show his parents that he's made it with a boyfriend. And so the plot evolves. Grandma Nona needs to put on a show for her grandson Decker in front of his society climbing parents to impress them that he's climbed on their bandwagon by dating an influential member of society. Does anyone top a doctor? Why not a celebrity? And this is where Tripp enters the picture. He's a fitness guru with a enviable following. All he has to do is agree to act the boyfriend part. Interfering grandmas, snobbish parents make strange bedfellows but this fun read is so worth it. This is my honest review for the ARC I was given.

Story would have been three and a half stars, but I was seriously irritated by the lack of decent editing. Without that simple step taken to ensure a good reading experience I'm not awarding more than two stars.
There were the usual odd words missing, or typos throughout most of the book, which bug me, but I can live with. However, towards the end there were a couple of chapters in particular where sentences were simply left unfinished - they just ended mid-sentence! Sadly for the author this was then followed in the next couple of chapters with the wrong name being used in a couple of places, which just wound me up even more ;-)
So for this particular book in the series it's just two stars, and a plea for all authors to please, please, please get a decent editor!

🐺 High school prankster finally finds the right hook to catch his guy🎣

This story just did not draw me in. Apart from some scenes that reveal the challenges that 📹 on-line sensation Tripp went through early in life and the inferiority complex he can usually hide, this story just seemed too long and did not pique my interest. Yes, there are saucy and extended bouts of 🔥steam, some friendly man bonding and a cool grandmother named Nona, but otherwise I felt the story was pretty tame and I was tempted to skim too often. I enjoyed the earlier stories in this series more.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Tripp has been crushing on Decker since high school but Decker never reciprocated. Years later Decker still sees Tripp as annoying and a jokester but he needs Tripp to act as his boyfriend for when his parents come to town. I really like watching these two really get to know each other while they're pretending. They form a real connection and I really like that they form that connection before confirming that they're fated. It's a very sweet and enjoyable listen that was wonderfully brought to life by the excellent narrator. He did a great job with all of the characters and the story itself. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audio book.

Fun, light hearted romance

The main characters here are adorable. I've really enjoyed this series for particular slant shifter life & the endearing characters. Liam Kingsley's writing is a great mix of drama, hilarity, & heartwarming moments. The only reason these books don't gets 4 stars from me is that the editing drives me a little nuts. Mostly just details like punctuation or slight redundancies, but also quite a few stopped sentences where the phrase just
Annoying, right? 😉
Nevertheless, I definitely recommend the series.

Decker needs a pretend boyfriend to impress his (very) impossible mother. Tripp, who had always liked Decker is very willing to be his pretend.

Trip and Decker are so funny and sweet together. Great characters. I see so much of the high school dynamic in their relationship. Crushes are so painful and the author gave these guys the ultimate crush outcome.

Good story with a tiny bit of angst, a well done evil mom, and the best grandma. Probably the most likable couple in the series.

I received an arc of this book.

Disbelief

Decker was happy that his friends had found their fated mates, but he wasn't sure he believed in it. He had dated but no one kept his interest. His grandmother was getting ready to change that. She had told his parents that he had a serious relationship and they wanted to meet him. Decker had to find someone so he asked Tripp to be his fake boyfriend. Tripp has had a crush on Decker forever. I loved their journey. I didn't like Decker's mother. I would have loved to see her reaction to their relationship.

This is the sixth book in The Blackwater Pack Series. A fascinating book with good writing. The plot was entertaining and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters delightful. The characters were developed and thought out. Tripp and Decker are the MC’s of this book. I can recommend this book as a good read. Best book in the series

I absolutely loved this book! Tripp is my favorite character out of all the characters in all the books. This is a book I will buy. I've already read it twice since I borrowed it. I have to own it! All the books in the series were good but this one just made all my emotions come out as I read it. It is seriously that good. I saw a few reviews that were negative about this book and all I can say is they obviously did not read the same book as I did!

Winner!!!

This one was my favorite if this series. Tripp is funny and sweet and Decker is all broody and sexy. The two of them together were magic and Nona made it all round out perfectly. I am looking forward to the next book in the set and I hope it has the same sense of fun and sexiness that this one has!

Totally loved it! Funny, witty, entertaining, I don’t have enough words to describe this book 6 on the series. This Frenemies-fake boyfriend-to-fated-mates story was simply brilliant. You can feel the energy of Tripp, the professionalism of Decker and in general the love for each other. The best in the series so far.

Man this was so good.

These two are perfect together. Took them long enough to figure it out. I liked that they had a lot in common and how well they blended together. Plus seeing familiar faces really makes you feel a part of their lives. I’m guessing we are getting Jamison’s story next.

Another great add to the series. Tripp and Decker are definitely opposites and I loved seeing how they fix together; and make each other better. Add in some fake boyfriend scenes and I couldn't wait for them to get closer. More great characters to love and I can't wait for the next. Loving for real

This 6th book show that this is a series that is not getting old Tripp and Decker have known each other since school, are now social media stars doing completely different things but in vaguely the same field. Decker needs a fake boyfriend to get his parents to back off, he turns to Tripp for help. Things get heated very quickly, this is a steamy read and one that was very enjoyable to read.

It was ok

I liked the characters and story line, but editing errors got in the way. There were several places where the sentences weren't finished,, and caused some confusion. Then "spoiler alert" the sentence said C section but then he supposedly had no meds and signed up for natural birth. I have read the series, and this is really the first one that I didn't enjoy.

I had mixed feelings about this one. The blurb was appealing but the story just didn’t quite do it for me.

The characters just didn’t pull me in as much as I’d hoped.

Liam Kingsley is one of my favourite authors but this book just didn’t meet my expectations.

The narrator was good. He changed his voice for different characters and he did it well.

Look when I brought this book on Amazon it doesn’t tell you that it’s book 6. But I like that even though I’m reading book 6 I’m not left out of the series however it takes forever to get the good stuff and the pacing is slow
