Ray Powell (1922-1981) and his wife Louise, along with Daniel P. Mannix, began the Munchkin (eastern region) convention of The International Wizard of Oz Club. Serving as auctioneer, he made sure that all forty books of The Oz Canon passed under his gavel.

He wrote two original Oz books of his own, The Raggedys in Oz (published in 1991 and 2006) and Mister Flint in Oz (1969, published 1987), but he died before either saw publication.

He was presented with The International Wizard of Oz Club's L. Frank Baum Memorial Award in 1969.
