Revenge is best served cold...

Especially when two large, canvas, cargo bags are filled with cash and locked in a vault.

Apparently, crime lord Tubby Gustafson has a habit of not paying small contractors.

But everyone desterves legal representation, and Hubert Holly, Tubby's lawyer, goes to bat for his client.

Meanwhile, Dev Haskell picks up a side job with one of the largest investigative firms in the region.

What could possibly go wrong?!

Someone is about to pay... big time.

Just who is this Mystery Man?

I was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, I still live there as well as in Dublin, Ireland. I've been a soldier, freelance journalist, tended bar, sold designer cakes, owned a painting and decorating company along with a number of other schemes and scams. If that doesn't offend you I also play bagpipes with the Brian Boru Irish Pipe Band. All my books stand alone, read them in whatever order you wish. They are filled with the sort of oddballs we are all curious about, but wisely, prefer to keep at a distance. None of my characters will be saving the world from terrorism, international banking conspiracies or coups to take over the government. Rather, they inhabit a world just below the surface of polite society, characters with one foot on either side of the law. The circumstances they find themselves in are usually due to bad decisions, but bad decisions lead to interesting stories. They serve not so much as an example but as a warning to us all. Thanks for taking the time, happy reading.

Dev Haskell, PI

If you like great humor, characters and storyline, then you will enjoy this series. Dev gets into some interesting cases, and between the case load, he has to attempt to satisfy Tubby Gustafson, who is a criminal ( thug).

Artie seems like a really nice guy, for a master thief. He is especially likable when he is able to successfully break in to Tubby Gustofson's safe and steal a couple big bags of loot. Unfortunately for Dev, he is the one that needs to find Artie and recover the money. On top of that, Scarlett hires him to accompany her to a high mucky muck pre-wedding party being held for the future son-in-law of a hugely rich lawyer. But the fiance broke off the wedding. Pretty soon, the rich lawyer isn't so rich anymore, then he isn't anything anymore. Dev has a whole lot of investigating to do. Good thing he has the services of computer nerd Preston. Good chaance to root for the so called bad guy.

I think may be my favorite book of a great series. Someone breaks into gangster Tubby Gustafson's strip club safe and steals two bags of money. Tubby orders Dev to find whoever did it. While he is still searching for the thief, his private eye competitor Scarlett asks him to help her out by accompanying her to the wedding of a rich lawyer who is her client. But the groom jilts the lawyer's daughter at the wedding, and disappears after cleaning out the dad's bank accounts. Then the lawyer turns up dead and Dev is the prime suspect.

As always, a wonderful romp!!!!
I wouldn't want my daughter's near him, but Dev Haskell, and his canine sidekick Morton have the goods to deliver the fun.
I've read every book in the series, and whenever another one comes out, I'm happy to continue reading.
Dev is actually growing up a bit, and Morton has given up eating thongs, but the books still deliver.
Read them all!!!

Really good book

Dev is in it again. He agrees to escorts Scarlett to groom's dinner, a wedding and the present opening. As usual he gets more than he bargains for. It starts with the groom calling the wedding off, then the bride gets a splinter in her rump and takes her to the hospital. Lots of twists and crimes happening, and Dev is in the middle. Great story new characters.

When Tubby Gustafson (you do know that Tubby Gustafson is the crime boss of Saint Paul because you have been reading the Dev Haskell series, right?) shows up in Dev's office demanding he look into a little problem, it can only mean trouble. Then Dev's gorgeous rival private investigator, Scarlett "Raunchy Scarlett" Raunchnoble, owner of S.R. Investigations, makes him an offer he can't financially refuse. Of course, there is Dev's squeeze du jour, Sharon and she just loves pink Prosecco. It would seem that none of these elements are connected, but, of course, since this is a Dev Haskell book, they are.

If you've been following the life and loves of Devlin Haskell, MYSTERY MAN will not disappoint. Come on, with a new character called "Raunchy Scarlett," you know there will be chaos and hilarity as the search for the man of mystery proceeds.

Until I finish the series, the exploits of Dev Haskell are my go-to read while the real world goes to hell in a handbasket.
