Seventh grader Derrick's "Dead Max Comix" are such a hit in the school paper that he and Max start an advice column. Derrick and Doug should have asked for advice before they started a band without inviting Kim and Keisha to join. To get even, Kim challenges the guys to come up with awesome costumes for Comic-Con and enter the upcoming Battle of the Bands. Will the Battle of the Bands mean the end of Derrick and Kim? More importantly, who will win?
Dead Max continues in this drop-dead hilarious sequel to “Dead Max Comix: The Deadening.” In this installment, Max and his human, Derrick, are still trying to navigate the perils of middle school. Derrick gets asked to be an advice columnist at his school newspaper, with the idea that his “imaginary friend Max” could give advice to the student body. After some encouragement from the very real Dead Max the dog and their friends, he agrees, only to figure out the job is much harder than it looks.
Derrick has enough drama to deal with between being in a band, making friends, getting good grades and worrying about his family. How can he give advice to kids when his life isn’t so great either?
Dana Sullivan delivers a funny, heartfelt, and even musical sequel to his hilarious first “Max” book with “The Rocking Dead.”
P.S. Look for some cool references to great authors and illustrators in this book!
