I saw this book being talked about on twitter and it jumped out to me straight away. Thank you to the author and HQ Stories for a copy of this book in return for an honest review.

Flora has spent most of her life wishing for companionship and a loving family, but the reality is that she has mostly been lonely. When she meets and falls in love with Jack, not only does she have to win over his two daughters, she feels she has to compete with Jack’s dead wife; Becca. Flora only becomes

Not only has Sarah Morgan done it again, but Family for Beginners may just be her best book yet.

Set in the gorgeous Lake District, and vibrant Manhattan and Brooklyn, Family for Beginners is a book about secrets, grief and second chances. The aptly named Flora works in an upmarket Manhattan florists where she watches rather than experiences life and, after a day in the shop she returns to her tiny damp apartment where she lives alone. Warmhearted Flora yearns for acceptance and love after being

Another gem from Sarah Morgan. I turn to this author when I need an absorbing read that will draw me in and absorb me into the life of the characters. I felt for the female characters in the book... Flora, Izzy and Molly and best friend Claire.

Mostly set in Brooklyn and in the latter part in the beautiful Lake District, this is a book that makes you look under the skin of what’s going on and analyse the relationships. Some of the book was more melancholy than I’d have liked but ultimately it

Family for Beginners is a wonderful read. Flora a florist meets Jack a widower with two girls, he is trying to find a birthday present for his eldest daughter Izzy, his wife Becca having died suddenly 12 months earlier. They connect instantly and slowly the relationship develops, when Jack introduces Flora to his two girls it doesn’t quite go to plan, the youngest still openly missing her mother and Izzy having taken on her mothers role and still grieving badly but silently feels threatened by ...more

Just when you think Sarah Morgan’s book can’t get any better along comes - family for beginners. I absolutely adore this book.
I could visualise the house in manhattan, the flower shop where Flora works and the beautiful English countryside and boathouse on the lake.
Colourful, tender hearted florist Flora meets handsome, single dad Jack when he visits the flower shop where she works to buy his seventeen year old daughter Izzy a bouquet for her birthday. After striking up a conversation with him

I really enjoyed reading this new book from Sarah Morgan. Her previous books that I have read focus upon family dynamics, and how they can often be dysfunctional, rather than happy families. This book focuses on how to try to rebuild lives after losing a family member and friend.
The main character in this book is Flora, a florist from New York. She lost her Mother when she was a young child, and was sent to live with her Aunt. Her Aunt did not really want to raise a child, and Flora spent most

er who is very stroppy and makes it well known to Flora that she is an outsider and does not belong. Molly adores her. Flora realises that she has a lot to live up to.; Becca it seems was without a flaw, perfect in every way. A Mary PI adore Sarah Morgan novels and I was not disappointed in this one, It was extremely well written and I thought the dynamics of the characters were spot on. It is very hard to get over the death of your mum, especially when you are young. As a father you have to ...more

What a lovely story! I found it very visual, I could picture it all as I read. It was very realistic, You can imagine it all happening, Sarah is so good at writing family interaction.

Flora is a florist, working in the same shop that her mother worked in before her. She had a difficult childhood after her mother died, she loves her job but lives in a horrid rented apartment, and has few friends. She is quite a lonely person, with only a few friends. One day a man walks into the shop looking for

Another fabulous book by Sarah Morgan that is a joy to read. Family For Beginners is set in Manhattan USA and The Lakes England. The story examines the difficulties surrounding new relationships with not only new people but with family and friends and also having to get on with whatever life throws at you along the way.

Flora, a people pleaser, has always wanted to fit into a family as living with her cold hearted Aunt after the death of her Mother left her feeling very much unloved. When Flora

I have just finished reading this wonderful story and have to say I absolutely loved it. I found it hard to put down. It is a heartwarming tale which sucked me in from page one. It had me smiling, laughing at times and just occasionally shedding the odd tear or two. This is a captivating story.

I will remember these characters for a long time, they felt like family. So well written and so well rounded that they became real to me. I just loved Flora, she reminded me of myself at times and made me

Sarah you’ve done it again. Another brilliant read, would recommend to everyone.
Clare and Becca are lifelong friends, Clare lives in a luxury property Lake Lodge in the Lake District with her husband Todd and son Aiden. Becca died last year and told Clare a secret just before she died. Clare has been carrying this secret she wished she’d never been told for a year, she wished the contents had died with her.

I started this and was immediately drawn in. I loved the meeting of Flora and Jack. It was so beautiful and wonderfully written.

What I couldn’t get my head around initially was the jump from asking Flora out for a coffee to suddenly they’re in a relationship. I wanted the build up. As I progressed through the book, I understood the jump. The book wasn’t about hike their relationship started, more about how Flora becomes part of this family.

Family secrets are best kept, or are they?

Clare lives in the Lake District with husband, Todd, ironic as she's afraid of water. She grew up there, moving back to be near her mother. Her best friend, Becca, has recently died, leaving Clare with a secret she'd rather not have known. Clare flies out to New York for the funeral and to comfort her god-daughter, seventeen year old Izzie. Then she invites them for a return visit, hoping to give them a relaxing break.

Another absolutely brilliant book by Sarah Morgan! Her characters and relationships are always so real and this book is no different. Flora, our main character is so likeable, wise and brave - with far more patience than I could ever have. The storyline is beautifully crafted, taking us through highs and lows and dealing with love, loss, friendship and grief, without ever becoming too downhearted and sad. I enjoyed every minute of it and am now off to find others books by Morgan that I may have ...more

have a bias for Sarah Morgan, I always expect a heart warming book where here character development makes me feel like I am living in the story. Her skills in writing and drawing you in are first class.
Family for Beginners is another gem, the family Flora becomes a part of have their secrets and its not easy to identify the secrets which makes reading compulsory. I connected with Flora as being socially awkward and I was willing her to stand up for herself. A brilliant story, I would love to

Another fantastic book from Sarah Morgan, she really understands complex family dynamics and the complexities of human relationships. A book that once you pick it up you won’t want to put it down till you have finished it!
Likeable characters particularly the lovely flora and spiky teenager Izzy! The way the relationship between the two of them grows and develops is lovely to see particularly how it is helped along the way by aiden, his mum Clare and eventually Izzys dad! A lovely read that will

I don’t think I have ever read a book by Sarah Morgan but I definitely will now. This book was a rollercoaster of emotion. Izzy and Molly’s mother has been gone for a year when their dad invites a female friend over. Izzy really struggles to adjust. Her pain and confusion is only fueled by a secret about her mother that she has never shared.
I loved getting to know the characters and watching each relationship progress. My only criticism is that the timescale was confusing, I was never sure how

With Family For Beginners, Sarah Morgan has surely added another bestseller to her ever-growing list.
The story flows beautifully with deep secrets gradually unfurling and while you might have ideas about what’s coming, I was still surprised.
It perfectly explores various themes including single life in our modern world, grief, human nature, blended families and love in its many forms.
As ever, the writing is first class. Even though the point of view switches, Sarah seems to understand the

I loved this book so much, it was beautiful. I don’t know what else to say! I loved the characters, and their development, the way they all slowly learned the true meaning of family, and acceptance. I loved the fact that they all fought for each other, and particularly that Flora didn’t just go storming off when she was upset. Sarah Morgan’s writing just seems to get better and better. Highly recommended.

I was given a free copy of this book. My opinions are my own (as always).

I enjoyed this book. When Flora falls for widower Jack, she has to learn to get along with his teenage daughter and to live up to the perfection of his late wife. When she agrees to spend a few weeks in the Lake District with Becca's best friend and her family, she wonders if she has made a mistake. However, during the course of those few weeks, secrets emerge and relationships are cemented. This is a lovely family story which I recommend. Thanks to NetGalley for a preview copy.

Well what can you say, Sarah Morgan books are perfect escapism. Not put off by tackling the relevant issue, coping with grief, moving on and blended families. Sarah manages to weave these topics into a romantic novel where you fall in love with the characters and are routing for them all. Highly recommend.
Thanks to Netgalley and Sarah Morgan for the advance copy.

Another great book from Sarah Morgan. A bit of a slow beginning as you got used to all the characters and how they interacted with each other but as the book progressed, you really started to get engrossed in it. Some very good characters (once you get into them) and a good storyline with a nice pathway.

I really enjoyed Family for Beginners, which is both a family drama and romantic novel. Jack is grieving the recent death of his wife and struggling to buy a birthday gift for his daughter when he meets Flora, a florist. The characters were sympathetically portrayed and each had a complex relationship with the idea of family and family itself. Secrets run throughout the novel, but there is also a lot of hope - this isn’t great literature, but it was an enjoyable read.

Family For Beginners was such an amazing story!
It cleveley deals with how we learn to move on after going through the loss of a loved one, and of how a ready made family copes when an outsider enters and brings chaos to their seemingly perfect world .Flora and Jack's story is a very moving and emotional one. I loved everything about it, from the original backstory of two childhood friends that grew up entwining their families over two different continents, to the present day plotline of Flora
