I’m Barbara Gold. Age: 70. Height: 5’5”. Eyes: blue. Hair: gray. Weight: none of your business. Specialties: Undercover surveillance, small arms, chemical weapons, Middle Eastern and Latin American politics. Current status: Retired widow and grandmother.
Retired secret agent Barbara Gold’s biggest challenge is finding a birthday present cool enough for her teenage grandson… until a dead body drops into her shopping cart inside Cheerville’s new high-tech big-box store.
Suddenly, Barbara is pulled back into the action and thrill she used to love in her working years—CIA involvement, shadowy figures, mysterious deaths, missing loot, and a chance for her to make a difference.
Read the hilarious 8th book (30,000 words) in the Secret Agent Granny mystery series.
This time around Granny's tongue is a little sharper, dare I say down right mean at times. Still she knows how to solve a mystery with a little help from her friends. A good read.
I received an ARC of this book for an honest review. I have read all of the books in this series. This latest book is definitely different from the others. Imagine shopping at your local warehouse store (Here it's Sam's Club.) and a body falls from the high shelving units right into your cart. That's what happened to Barbara as she was shopping for her grandson's birthday gift. Naturally she involves herself (she is former CIA after all) in solving the murder. However, the deeper she delves into it, the more she finds that it is tied to her past spy life. Along with her back going out and a colorful cast of characters, she solves the mystery, but it's not what it seems. I could not put this down and recommend either pre-ordering or buying it when it is released.
I was worried that reading these books instead of listening to the audiobooks would not be the same. The actress narrating was just so good and made the book funny and humorous.
But alas, it’s the book itself that’s funny! I had a fun time reading this and often found myself giggling. Even if it's so short, it’s still filled with silly jokes, banter and a cool mystery and investigation.
I really like Barbara’s voice, I like how she reminisces about the old times when she was young and could do so much, and how now it’s harder to do most things. Still, she is so resourceful and I like seeing how she extricates from dangerous situations.
Martin,Barbara's much loved grandson, is turning fourteen and Granny needs a very cool present. She shops at a new store that is a huge big box store that opened a few weeks ago. While shopping there a body falls into her cart on top of the present she has selected. After recovering from the shock, she notices the victim has a knife sticking out of his head, and she realizes there's been another murder in Cheerville.
I love Barbara Gold and the Secret Agent Granny series. This one was a little darker than the previous ones-probably because it reflected on her own past CIA career. It was, however, a fun read that moves along quickly. I especially enjoy reading about an agent who has a many years experience---and the aching back that goes along with those years. Fun, fun book!
I received this as an ARC copy to read and give an honest review. I can so relate to Barbara's aches and pains. It's so fun to read about a such a fun character. Great storyline in this one since it gives you a glimpse into her previous life as an agent. She realizes that she can no longer do the things as easily as she could in a younger lifetime. If you like to laugh and can understand her aging aches and pains, you will so love this one.
I so enjoyed this, I do love this series. So Barbara is shopping in this new state of the art store looking for the perfect gift for her grandson's birthday then a dead body drops into her cart, now she plays detective again to find out why. A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
I love Secret Agent Granny! Even when she’s trying to be a doting grandmother, a dead body always seems to turn up and she can’t help getting involved. You just can’t take the CIA out of her. Even the aches and pains of old age don’t stop her! Oh, to be a grandmother like her. A wonderful, fun read!
Barbara is at it again. A simple shopping trip.....that is how it always begins for Barbara. This book brings in a fellow agent she and her husband used to work with. A series that keeps getting better and better. Get hooked on Granny and her adventures now. This series will make you feel young and adventurous again. I received a advanced readers copy of this book
bwahahahaha Leave it to Granny to have a body drop into her cart while shopping. This series is so much fun to read :) Never a dull moment in the Secret Agent Granny books, and this one was a seriously funny and interesting read!
I want to be spunky like Granny when I am 70. She is shopping and a dead guy falls into her cart. So Granny being Granny begins to look into why. As usual this is another good mystery for Granny to solve. I do enjoy this series!
Another fun easy ready in the Granny series. I really enjoy how Barbara makes light of her age and declining abilities. This story gave a little more background information relative to her years as an agent.
Such a great quick story! It is wonderful to read a story about an older heroine while utilizing my own heating pad. It makes the characters so much more relatable and realistic. I wish I had Barbara for a grandparent!
Granny has a body fall into her cart while shopping for a gift for her grandson. Her and an old friend from the CIA days go after a killer. Story ended to soon for me. Looking forward to the next book.
I enjoy this series so much! Granny is just a hoot and isn't afraid to take chances. This series is very entertaining and funny! Love it!! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book!
Another fun one about a woman of a certain age who is retired, but as a retired former CIA agent, she brings many talents to her supposed restful years. She has many skills that are overlooked as she is an older person, and women like me apprecioate an older lady with vim and attitude. She still outwits and catches criminals and she really cares deeply for her family.
Barbara Gold, an ex-CIA agent is braving the new mega store in Cheerville when her past catches up with her. While hunting for the perfect birthday gift for her grandson, she is surprised by a body falling into her cart. Once again, Granny inserts herself into the investigation. Unfortunately, every clue points to someone from her CIA past. Another great read in the Granny series. I am looking forward to seeing what trouble Barbara can stir up next. I received an ARC from the author for purposes of an unbiased review.
