Sontag's scholarly aesthetic influences this volume, which contains essays steeped in research and academic speak. All were bright and insightful; only four of the twenty would I read again ("Standards" by Doctorow, "Audobon's Passion" by Gopnik, "The Zipper" by Leonard Michaels, and "Look Away, Dixie Land" by Patricia Storace).
