On a reread, I ended up liking this volume more than the others. I understood the spoilered story element below a little better, though it does open the question of .

I've seen the second season of the anime, but it was quite literally forgettable for me. The cast aside from Katarina were not enough to keep me interested through the repetitive and weak plotting. So this is where the story "really ends" for me.

***

This volume concludes the major arc of Katarina's AU version of the "otome" game she played in her previous life. The anime ended right around here, too, which makes me wonder if what follows might not be as good. The explanation for--didn't make a lot of sense to me, but everything was resolved nicely, and that's all that matters.

The bonus story by the original author was so-so, not as charming as the others we've seen so far. Dream-Katarina changes into a boy, and all her friends have changed genders, too. Katarina compares the girls' boobs, and that's pretty much all there is to it.

So this volume was emotional. The beginning had my eyes watering and I wanted to cry twice. It was so beautiful to see all the characters talk about how much Katarina means to them. I also liked seeing more of Katarina's past life. The ending was also really funny but it was predictable. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series. I would highly recommend this manga series!

*sniffling, wiping tears from my eyes* Fuck, I did not expect to get hit so damn hard in the feels this volume! And I was hit from start to finish! Dammit, this was such a sad yet heartwarming volume. I really loved seeing all of the characters reminisce about their time with Katarina and how important she is to them. Katarina may not be the most well-written, deep female character, but she has a fun and accepting personality that I believe all of them when they say how much she means to them.

I won't say anymore due to spoilers, but the one thing I am concerned about is the cliffhanger ending. I honestly think this would have been a good place to end the series, but clearly that's not happening. I'm hoping it won't drag on too long, but I'm still curious to see where it goes. As of now, I loved this volume and still love this series.

Book Summary:

You know how the story goes. A high school girl wakes up to a new life – quite literally, for she's been reborn as Catarina Claes, a villainess and spoiled daughter of a duke. In other words, a big pain in the butt.

Catarina may be clueless, but that makes her very talented at getting into the center of the biggest problems. For example, she now knows who is behind her friend's disappearance – and she's not going to sit around and wait for someone else to save the day.

My Review:

My Next Life as a Villainess Vol. 4 marks a significant change in the series, at least in my mind. This is the moment where Catarina starts writing her own future instead of just reacting to what is happening around her (read: trying to avoid doom scenes). Technically, she's been doing that the whole time, but this was the first major time she had to go out of her way to do something without thinking of how it may or may not affect her doom.

What I'm trying to say is that I feel like our little Catarina is finally (finally) growing up. A bit. Just a smidge. But it's something! She's still as oblivious as ever, and I love her for it.

This volume showed a different side of the world, where dark magic and more insidious plots can live. We've always known there had to be a darker underbelly – after all; the world is supposed to have a villainess running around, why not others to counter her? It was interesting to see this side of the world, and I'm looking forward to further exploring it (you know it isn't end there).

Parallel reading on manga and light novel -- which means light novel #2 and manga #2,3, and 4. Spoilers ahead for the earlier volumes.

The drama at the end of the third manga leads to the opening of the fourth manga (and the continuation of the light novel) with Katarina in an inexplicable-to-the-characters sleep of days, and a touching scene where all of her circle, boys and girls reflect on how much she means (one realizing what he never had before). There's a plot device that was a bit foreshadowed but still felt clumsy, but she wakes ready to deal with discoveries with her usual style. And then boldly faces the party where the games ends, with plans for any number of Catastrophic Bad Endings.

Czemu mi to robicie ???

I really like the twist that comes with the president being a bad guy. Though at some point she should really realize she's not a villainess. I love the dumbfounded look on everyone's face when she tries to claim to be so. It keeps me laughing.

I want to say that if this series ended with this volume, it would end nicely. My daughter has finished the series and said this to me. As I finished reading this volume, I found myself agreeing totally with her evaluation. But with that said, this is a fun and MUST read volume! If you decide your giving up on the series that's fine, but you absolutely should not do that until you've read this volume! Writing much about this volume would equal a spoiler but just know it is even better than volume 3, and I felt that was the best volume...so any series you feel the next volume is better than the previous shows amazing story telling and execution.

Friendship or friend-zoned? Well, whatever it is, just know the relationship is mutual and our bakarina Katerina has yet to face her doom flag endings (unless it can be avoided). Sora and Cyrus are in two small panels—no Dewey yet, but soon, in probably like a handful of manga volumes later. But whenever we get to those characters, I will be rooting for them! I mentioned this previously but wanted to iterate again that the manga is heavily condensed. However, it sort of makes up for it with bonus chapters. In this volume, the Dreamland Gender Bender bonus chapter had been laughing out loud!

Watched the anime, so I thought I'd see what the manga was like and the 4th volume was on my library shelf. It's pretty much just like the anime. I didn't research to see if the manga was created after the series, but my guess is that it was. I am really curious to see what the light novel is like and how the story continues after the "game".

Short story is a gender bender where Katarina finds herself interrogated by her new female friends on her preferences. For once, Mary isn’t bailing her out here.
Manga omake where the girls experiment with new hairstyles. Nicol kind of reminds me of Kaname Kuran here.

📘 My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Manga, Vol. 4 by Nami Hidaka & Satoru Yamaguchi
⭐ Rating: 5/5 🍓💘🎭

📖 Summary:
Katarina is still that girl. That icon. That charmingly oblivious bisexual disaster who is somehow the emotional gravity center of a full-blown royal romance implosion. In this volume, the game plotline finally starts peeking through again, but does our beloved dirt goblin queen notice? NO. She's too busy making snacks and dodging proposals she doesn’t even realize are proposals.

The tension is thicker. The confessions are closer. The magical backstory is creeping in. And Katarina? Still thinking everyone just really, really appreciates her as a friend. Ma’am. You have a whole lineup of nobles ready to duel for your hand.

💖 Favorite Character / Theme:
Katarina continues to be ✨a gift✨. Every time she says something sweet, someone falls in love. Every time someone tries to be romantic, she emotionally Naruto-runs into platonic friendship like her life depends on it.

The theme?
✨ Surviving doom flags via cake, cluelessness, and collective simping
✨ Power through friendship (and chaotic bisexual energy)
✨ Unintentionally leading a cult of emotionally repressed royals

Bonus love for: the way literally everyone turns feral over her, while she’s just vibing like "hmm I hope I don’t get expelled for being too average!" BABE.

🔥 Smut Level:
Still none, but we’ve entered eye contact that feels illegal territory. The yearning is now haunting.
#SmutTags: #EveryoneWantsToKissHer #NoOneCanCatchHer #FriendshipDenialIsALifestyle #ReverseHaremRoyalDesperation

⚠️ Trigger Warnings:
Emotional tension, magic system pressure, social status anxiety, characters not getting the kiss they CLEARLY EARNED

👥 Read this if you like:
Soft gay panic disguised as royal obligation
Romantic tension that makes your teeth itch
Watching characters suffer deliciously in slow-motion longing
Feral love interests and a queen who just wants to farm

❌ Skip if:
You can’t handle slow burn on god-mode
You need your FMC to recognize a romantic cue before Vol. 12

Extrait :

Today’s post is on My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! (Manga) Vol. 4 by Satoru Yamaguchi, Nami Hidaka (Illustrations). It is 176 pages long and is published by Seven Seas. The cover has Katarina on it with her brother Keith and friend Nicol behind her. As it the the fourth in the series you need to have read the first three volumes to understand the story. The intended reader is someone who likes otome games, humorous manga, and making fun of tropes. There is no foul language, no sex, and no violence in this volume. The story is told from third person close of mostly Katarina but with lots of asides from other characters in this volume. There Be Spoilers Ahead.
From the back of the book- Asleep and Scheming

After Katarina discovered that the student council president Sirius Deek was a hidden villain in the dating sim she was reborn into, she fell under the spell of his black magic. Now, in a deep sleep, she must navigate her previous life to uncover information that will help her save Maria from the same fate. Will she fate in time to defeat Sirius? Or will Katarina finally meet her doom?

Review- An excellent volume in a series that I just love. Katarina is in a sleeping beauty from Sirius and she will die unless she can be woken up. Of course everyone is trying their best on their side but Katarina is dreaming about her life before. She is happy to see her family again but she doesn’t belong there anymore and her best friend helps her to wake up. It is a very moving scene between the two of them and it revealed that her best friend, Acchan, is now Sophia in this new life. Of course Katarina saves the day and her life. I have so enjoyed this series and I look forward to the next volume.

I give this volume s Five out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I bought this manga with my own money.
