cannabis spirituality

What do you get when you add cannabis with meditation? Why you get Wake, Bake and Meditate . The author starts off with informing the reader about Cannabis 101. The author describes the different strains and what kind of spiritual work the different strains are good for. Indica strains have more THC and CBD and tends to be real good for relaxing and mellowing out. Some meditation , especially trance dance are more upbeat and energetic hence Sativa is good for this joined of work. The author goes over the basic of dosing and different ways to consume THC.

The next section talks about individual mediation . Before launching into meditation with cannabis, the author covers pre meditation routines. Setting and set are important. The set is what you go into the session with. The setting is the environment you are meditating in. Journaling helps set the intention for the meditation session , it also helps to write about it afterwards.

The first meditation are individual meditations. The first few times the meditator will meditate two to three times with a guide. After doing the meditation 3-4 times then you are ready to try the meditation with the aid of cannabis. Some subjects for meditation finding your bliss, setting up a spiritual retreat, meeting the feminine and masculine divine.

These meditations carry over into the group work. All the meditations have a script that can be recorded for going into the meditation. There are somehealing mediations both for disaster and real health problems.

The end finishes off with recipes and instructions for decarbing your herb. The recipes are pretty good. If you are a beginner in meditation or cannabis you might want to check this book out especially if your infusing your spirituality with cannabis.

AMAZING intro into using cannabis as a catalyst towards spiritual meditation. If you're looking to take your herb + spiritual practices to the next level, Wake, Bake & Meditate is a great starting point. Kerri speaks with such openness that I was instantly impressed, even further impressed by the underlying pagan elements gently interwoven, which is something I personally resonate with. Personal preferences aside, this book is written in a very versatile way and can be adapted towards individualized self-care regardless of religion.

At the beginning there's a brief overview of the history of cannabis as far as researchers have been able to ascertain, including the best estimated time period and origin of certain strains, along with why using the term "marijuana" is a racial slur, and the spiritual use of cannabis throughout various cultures including Ayurvedic practices. I found this very interesting, and while this book wasn't marketed towards medicinal uses per se, the medicinal herbalist in me wishes it had included more technical information in that regard. I suppose I'll just have to keep an eye out!

Then it dives into some recommended strains (some commonly recommended, and some commonly distributed) for spiritual use, going into detail on each main category: sativa, indica, and hybrid. We learn a bit about how each affects the body and why, their respective THC to CBD cannabinoid ratios and what to consider when looking to achieve a certain mental state, and some tips regarding methods of consumption (edibles, smoking the flower, vaping) and dosing to hit your level of "high" while being mindful of your tolerance level.

Kerri recommends a cannabis journal while experimenting with cannabis meditation as well as when experimenting with new strains and methods of consumption, and I wholeheartedly agree. Strain, counts (THC, THC-A, CBD), method, dosage, time of day, etc. Recording down technical information like this is my jam, so I was pretty psyched to see this topic included. Also included is a plethora of journaling and meditation strategies to really aid you in opening up your mind, as well as numerous meditation sessions to put into practice either solo or with a partner or group. Meditative sabbats and esbats, anyone? Yes? Yes.

Finally, we learn a few simple methods on how to cook with cannabis - butter, oil, and alcohol infusions being some common methods. Carrie goes over decarboxylation, varying your cannabinoid concentrations, and a few other methods for achieving potent edibles right in the comfort of your home. Infused wine, champagne, and honey are a few of the especially easy and delicious ways to infuse your edibles, but there are so many other incredibly delicious recipes out there that are worth considering.

A few recipes included here:
♥ Pan's Stuffed Mushrooms
♥ Baked Brie
♥ High Thyme Meatballs
♥ Lord Shiva's Spiced Nuts
♥ Green Fairy Lavender Cookies
♥ Salted Caramel Ooey Gooey Chocolately Bars of Goodness
♥ Zen Garden Fruit Delights
♥ Peanut Buddha Balls
♥ Cerridwen's Cider
♥ Vin Du Jardin
♥ Ambrosia Smoothie
♥ Cuchulainn's Meditation Tea
♥ Mellow Merlot

Other material in the back:
♥ Appendix I: Possible Side Effects of Cannabis Use
♥ Appendix II: If You Consume Too Much (terpenes are your friend)
♥ Recommended Reading List
♥ Bibliography

Suffice to say I loved reading this book. Wake, Bake & Meditate would make a great gift for the spiritual stoners (or naturopaths!) in your life, and would also make the perfect gift for those just getting started as well. This is definitely a great resource to supplement your bookshelf.

Thank you to Llewellyn Publications for providing me with this eARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review!

I may or may not have been baked during the entirety of reading this book...but that's okay, because I feel like it made me understand and enjoy it even more! So many points in this book had me thinking how woke people who understand cannabis are. It sounds crazy but everything in this book just made sense. Of course I still have some questions, but I am very new to meditation so I just need to learn more. I'm definitely more interested in this subject now.

Not only now am I interested to try the meditations, but I also now feel motivated to try all the amazing sounding recipes this book included. I will say I was not all that interested in group work at first, but after reading about it they sounded fun and a great way to connect. Very much enjoyed this book and I'm so excited to apply both meditation and new recipes in my life!

While this won't have any new information for career stoners, the simple meditations Connor offers here that build one upon the other, and the unpretentious way she approaches cannabis and spirituality, was a breezy and welcome read. I think there's enough framework here for anyone--and not just pagans--to explore a spiritual relationship with cannabis.

I have never used cannabis, nor do I ever plan to try it. This book did help me to reduce my stigma of cannabis use. Some of the recipes in the back of the book I think I might try without cannabis. The author states that she was high when writing part of this book and I believe that.

Great book! I read the whole book, and am now excited to go back and WORK the book.
Nice meditations, and great information. I'm looking forward to using sativa in a different way, other than not using it at all.

I love that this woman exists and that she does her thing out in her field somewhere. I don't think these particular meditations are for me. But I'm super glad they are out there in the world. Worth reading alone for the recipes in the back.

This book contains an amazing amount of information on cannabis! I highly recommend for new and experienced users of cannabis to read this book! I loved reading about the history of different cultures in multiple eras who used this glorious plant for medicinal and spiritual purposes! I’ve begun my own meditation journey with cannabis and as a medical patient, it’s been eye opening and calming. The author is thoughtful and offers great tips for starting your own journey! Interactive and fun!

Very easy to read. May be a little uncomfortable for solitary practitioners. A lot of useful knowledge. Definitely recommend for someone looking to add cannabis is their regular practice.

If you know the basics of meditation and cannabis, skip to chapter 5. The first half of the book is completely pointless for anyone who’s smoked before. Her suggestions are also very regional, which she does say, so if you live in a state where it’s very legal it’s not relevant to you.

I feel this is more of a book for those too scared to dip their toes in the cannabis world. If you’ve already accepted the cannabis, or meditative, way of life this book is good for some great meditative scripts and some good recipes. Like I said, start reading at chapter 5.

If wealthy stay at home moms needed a how to guide to become spiritual stoners, this is it. The recipes in the back are pretty cool. This was a gift a few years back and I finally picked it off the shelf to read it.

this is a cool concept, but tbh i feel like i need to cut back on cannabis use lmao so i might use this as an excuse to smoke (which is not the point of this book).
