WHEW! humorous, sexual, heartbreaking. got to be my favorite DH Lawrence by far. there’s so much more to it than sex; prose on nature, rage against industrialization, remarks on the “thinking” class. i feel closer to my body, closer to the ground, after reading this.

Lady Chatterly lives on an estate in the country in post WW1 England with her husband who is paralyzed physically and stunted emotionally. She finds emotional connection and love with the groundskeeper as she leaves her civilized, upstanding self to become her earthy romantic and true self. This book contains some of the most beautiful love scenes of all time with multiple layers of meaning in exploring what is real and true in the relationship between a man and a woman.

Category: A Book You See Got A Lot of Hype, But Never Read

I can certainly see why this was scandalous, and also appreciate the themes of class and socialization. But I just can't really enjoy the Victorian language.
