Jason Lee, entertainment journalist, reality TV star, iHeart Radio personality, and CEO of Hollywood Unlocked bears it all in the transparent and unapologetic memoir God Must Have Forgotten About Me. Jason’s story is one of survival, endurance, passion, and divine favor—even in the midst of what would seem like unrelenting trauma. As a well-respected entertainment journalist, Jason Lee built the foundation of his career reporting on the lives of other celebrities. Often viewed as a catalyst to controversy, his breaking stories have sometimes caused friction with celebrity and fan alike. Jason has been responsible for releasing the most provocative and headline-worthy stories to date, but no other story has been more rewarding and pressing to share than his own. Growing up in the violent, drug-infested streets of Stockton, California, Jason Lee spent most of his childhood learning how to thrive on his own. While his mother struggled with drug addiction and his father remained physically and emotionally absent, Jason was eventually thrust into the foster care system which caused him to resent his parents for their abandonment. The remaining years of his young adulthood would be filled with indescribable emptiness and a yearning for purpose. After a life punctuated with molestation, abuse, and the devastating murder of a loved one, the once carefree, bright-eyed child quickly dimmed into a young adult who struggled with the toxicity of his own grief and depression. God Must Have Forgotten About Me is a vulnerable reintroduction to Jason Lee. Despite a macabre past and a constant battle with his own demons, Jason recounts with candor how his drive and boldness propelled him into some of the most coveted spaces and relationships in the entertainment industry. Whether it is sneaking backstage to meet Queen Latifah at a local Hip Hop festival, dancing on stage with Prince, or pulling out all the stops on “Wild ‘N Out,” Jason Lee has managed to position himself as a go-getter without allowing anyone or anything to stop his momentum.
I absolutely loved this book! Jason shared so many vulnerable things about his life. I laughed, I cried and I rooted for him. This has made me look at him and appreciate him in a completely different way. I've always thought he was funny and dope but he also seemed kind of mean sometimes. He's been through so much and came out on top! This book really gives you the background to who he is and why he may react to things the way he does. Who knew he has such faith in God? This is a must read!
I first learned of Jason Lee from the reality television show Love and Hip Hop. I have always considered him kind of messy. And for that reason I expected his book to be filled with page upon page of ratchetness. But to my surprise it was not! ⠀ In fact, Jason had nothing but good things to say about the celebrities he writes about in this memoir. He shares personal stories about Queen Latifah, Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson and Floyd Mayweither. I was definitely pleasantly surprised to see that direction he took when writing this book. ⠀ Each chapter exposes a different time in Jason’s life. For once, I found him refreshingly vulnerable. He shares stories of his late brother Rodney who was sadly murdered at a bowling alley. He also gives us a glimpse inside some of his romantic relationships. He writes about how he used alcohol to cope with the deaths of multiple family members and friends. And he talks about how he rebranded himself by creating the blog Hollywood Unlock. ⠀ There are some very sad moments in the book. The story of how his brother was murdered is one of them. Equally sad is the the story of how he was molested as a child. But, the saddest of them all is the story of how his mother one day suddenly gave him away. ⠀ This was a book I looked forward to picking up each morning. It was a great distraction. A quick, easy read that’s very straight forward and to the point. ⠀ If you like memoirs and you are thinking about adding this to your TBR list, you won’t be disappointed.
So I am someone who became familiar with Jason Lee first from Love and Hip Hop. I then I Watched Hollywood unlocked uncensored. So I'm the beginning I was not sure how I felt because it's written exactly like he talks. I'm not really use to that but I can say I honestly don't read many autobiographies. Thru this book we see and are reminded we are all fighting things nobody knows about. Thru all the negatives in his life he has overcome the obstacles and his own self destructive behavior. Having already hearing that his brother was killed I still wasn't mentally prepared to read it. I was in tears reading and just imagining losing one of my siblings that way and my heart was just broken for him. Nobody deserves to feel unwanted or unloved. I also appreciated reading his achievements several things I didn't know about his contributions to the industry when his relationships. This book is a perfect example to never judge a book by its cover.
I really enjoyed this book. To be honest, I was one of those people who viewed Jason in a negative light. Yet, after reading this book, I see him differently. I see him as someone who has been through a lot and doing a lot of work to become the best person he can be. I really did enjoy this book, and this has convinced me check out other biographies as well.
God Must Have Forgotten About Me by Jason Lee is an unintentional coming-of-age memoir, chronicling the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of the author. He went from being a young boy trying to survive his surroundings to being a multimillionaire entrepreneur and TV personality.
The three takeaways I got from this book: 1. Jason Lee is scary. When people see him, they see a self-centered asshole who is too vain to lift a finger. After reading the book, he is someone you should not fuck with. He will either fight you, have someone else do it, or both.
2. Jason had an interesting career path. On his radio show, he would mention that he worked in the union and has connections with political leaders and activists. I was always interested in how he made the switch from being a union leader to a TV personality. After reading the book, I understand how and why. His street smarts and wit helped him through his journey. And to me, that made the book stand out.
3. Celebrity payroll is a thing. People criticize Jason for being on Cardi B's payroll. I can say he is...to an intent. Yes, he will mostly write positive things about Cardi, Floyd, Tiffany, and others. However, I don't believe he is getting paid for it. I think he has a genuine friendship with them. And sometimes, you don't want to write anything bad about your friends. In exchange for friendship and loyalty, Jason will barely write about their negative traits. Is it a bad thing? Yea, if you want an unbias look at your faves. Is he the only one doing it? No. For me, this is 2020, and if you're going to have a critical look at your faves, you need to do your research.
I do believe this book may need a second run through. I don't mind the typos (some would since you are paying $20 for paperback). Still, I feel this story needed a someone to look for structural errors (such as Floyd pulling out a $42 million check. To me, I thought he was giving it to Jason. In reality, he was showing it to him. A bit confused.)
Overall, Jason Lee's book is good. It can help those who are having a hard time while providing hope that things will get better. I would recommend buying the book.
I thought his story was one the resonated with a lot of people. The struggle and just the drive he had to maintain when everything else around him was falling apart. It really speaks to his strength as a human being. Now as far as the way the book was written, he kind of loss my attention at times. I would find myself putting it down and coming back a few days later. There were parts of the book that felt more like a list... I went here, saw this person, did this party, etc. There were parts that didn't really feel like it was coming from him more from a robot.
I truly enjoyed the story. I am unfamiliar with Jason Lee and his brand, but the story of hardship and comeuppance with its focus on destiny and God’s purpose is valuable and motivating. We have all been instilled with God-given resilience. It’s all about how tap into it and take advantage of the relationships and opportunities God presents to us. I applaud Lee’s success!
I truly enjoyed this memoir. I only knew of what I saw on Love & Hip Hop however this book gave me a different view of him. He went through so much and he persevered. His strength is one to look up to. His story brings you in where you can not put the book down. I enjoyed the way each chapter he brought the reader into his life and share different events that took place . I have an a new respect for him as a person.
I love his book from the beginning to end! It was nice to see a more vulnerable side of him. Thank you Jason for speaking on your truth. I always found you funny a lil messy but, you’re loyal to those who are loyal to you. I always knew it was something more to you throwing that drink at Hazel lol. When I seen that I’m like they cut something out because I can’t see him throwing that drink for no reason. I love you and thank you for this book.
Thank you for letting us into your life. Great book. Forgiving is the most hardest thing to do. Forgiveness is not for her or your dad. Forgiveness isn't betraying Rodney. Forgiveness is to heal. Forgive yourself. Forgiveness is for you. Rodney push you to being who you are today. He knew you would be here. Praying for you. Born and raised 209.
Easy read. You may cry so keep tissues handy! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. His story is captivating! I understood a lot of what he was feeling although none of it was my personal experience. Boy would I love to give him a big hug! My biggest take away was that he was an activist - I would’ve never thought. I like him even more after reading his book.

I like a book that can catch my attention this book was one that did in the beginning, just once it got closer to the end it got a little flat with keeping my attention. It was easy to read because I could understand and relate to him. I would recommend this book.
Well...... I’ve always liked Jason and wanted to know more about him. This book was great. I could hear Jason’s voice as I’m reading in my head. It reads just how he speaks. It’s like he was in my bedroom telling me all about his life. Jason is an incredible soul and funny. Even when u probably shouldn’t laugh. He says something that makes u giggle.
Love how RAW and REAL the book is. I only knew Jason from Love and Hip Hop. There's sOOOO much more to his life , and extremely rough childhood to say the least !! His strength from all his disappoinments in life have created a tougher , wiser man....God Bless 🙏 God is definitely not forgetting YOU !!!
This book was very engaging for me ,I am a senior and really don't know who this author is. Well now I know after reading his in-depth story .His story brings back a lot of memories of my youth and I can why he carries so much mental and behavioral short comings .I am happy to know that he can work through the trying times. God loves you !!
I liked the beginning of learning about his background but when it came to adulthood I didn't like it. I don't think he spent enough time on it, instead, he was trying to rush through to talk about why he did some of the things he did on TV. But it was okay for a man i never heard of until I downloaded the book.
If you never had any idea of who Jason Lee was this page turner, raw, easy read will definitely introduce you to his life’s legacy. Considering all of his rough and tumultuous challenges, he never gave up and paved a way to his success. A true diamond in the rough!
This book not only represents redemption. It displays courage, growth and vulnerability. This book for everyone but especially for the underdog and the outcast who feels misunderstood and needs some wind beneath their wings.
Who would have known that there was a deeply spiritual, honest, caring and vulnerable man behind the media machine HOLLYWOOD UNLOCKED! JASON IS DEFINITELY A TALENT! THANKS FOR THE THOUGHT PROVOKING READ!!!
I've always liked you and what you stand for but now I have a new-found respect for you. You have been through a lot and overcame great obstacles. Thank you for sharing your story.
Very inspiring book with a great message . After reading this book it has already changed my outlook on life and motived and inspired me that my past doesn't determine my future
It takes a lot to share your personal story and Jason Lee did just that. While it's a bit choppy in writting style, overall it's a really good read and quite an inspiring story.
A very open, thoughtful and intimate look into the life and early upcoming of Jason Lee. This book was a great read for learning how to hustle to get what you want, and gaining resilience in the face of life's uncertainty, and unfairness.
Your story was so emotional for me and has I read I started to pray for you . You are a strong man and God did not forget about you. Your story might become a movie one day.
I love a story of an over comer. Faith in God proved to be an anchor in the midst of Jason life. A good read. It reminds me not to judge people but get to know their heart.
A honest memoir , he has overcame many obstacles over the years and have achieved a great amount of success. I would love to meet Jason one day. Interesting personality!.
Testimony of his ups and downs! It was quick read. Some areas of the way he went bavk and forth between the past and present had me lost at times. But he brought it back. This is a story of rags to riches.
Jason, I had no idea about your life! Reading your study made me realize that we have to go through things to get to where God wants us to be. Continue to rely on God and be obedient to Him and you will have long life.
I shed some tears on this one. I absolutely love Jason Lee. His story is amazing and I'm so honored that he let us in. I can't wait until the next book! I CANT GET ENOUGH OF HIM!!! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
