Bestselling author Lisa Suzanne's romantic comedy features rock stars, a best friend's older brother, and an accidental Vegas wedding.
I've never seen Emily Clarke as anything more than my little sister's best friend.
One drunken mistake later, she's my wife.
My first thought is how to get out of this, except our wedding video has gone viral and record sales are skyrocketing. My manager thinks following the newlyweds on the second season of my band's reality show will keep up the momentum.
I just have to get Emily to agree to faking this marriage for six months, and then we can quietly divorce.
Right?
Wrong.
Nothing is quite that simple when feelings blur the line between a contract and reality.
I ended up with more than just a hangover when I found myself waking up married.
Lisa Suzanne is an Amazon Top Ten Bestselling author of swoon-worthy superstar heroes, emotional roller coasters, and all the angst. She resides in Arizona with her husband and two kids. When she's not chasing her kids, she can be found working on her latest romance book or watching reruns of Friends.
Gah! It's no secret that I'm a huge fan of rock star romance, and more specifically, the ones written by Lisa Suzanne. I can always count on her to deliver an unputdownable, funny, feel-good romance, and it's what drives me to pick up her books time and time again. And once again, she penned another winner with Waking Up Married. It was right up my alley, and I loved everything about it. An imaginative plot coupled with endearing characters embroiled in a sweet and sexy romance that is both heart-tugging and heartwarming. This was pure rock star perfection from start to finish.
Adam is the guitarist for MFB and also the brother of Amber who is Emily's best friend. Pretty much all of her life, Emily has had a huge crush on Adam. After a night of celebrating Amber's birthday in Vegas, Emily wakes up with no memory of what happened the night before. She soon discovers that she and Adam have matching tattoos and are now husband and wife. Stunned by the news, the two of them are determined to fix their mistake. But unfortunately the band has other plans for them. They are to stay married for six months for the sake of their reality show. Not to mention the skyrocketing sales. But somewhere along the way, lines become blurred as real feelings develop.
Waking Up Married is a fantastic blend of sweet, sexy romance with a dose of humor thrown in for good measure. This is exactly what readers have come to crave from this author. It was perfectly executed, light-hearted, fun, and I positively inhaled it all in one sitting. Hold onto your hats folks because this fake marriage/best friend's brother romance will take you on one hell of a ride. 5 stars and more for Waking Up Married and Lisa Suzanne.
A rockstar romance and also a bestfriend's brother to lover? Oh yes please!
I think you probably know by now how much a sucker I am for Lisa Suzanne's rockstar romances and Adam well, I think he was pretty special and I could not have loved him more.
Waking Up Married was unputdownable, funny, romantic and had all the things I love in a rockstar romance - a bit of drama, getting to see the band go on tour and having the heroine tag along and an awesome tight-knit family. And of course I can't not mention how Lisa always gives us a bit of her old characters which I LOVE! We always get to see our favorites characters from her and it always makes the book a bit more special in my eyes.
Getting into the main charcaters though, I adored both the hero and heroine. Their story is a bit of a insta love but it didn't bother me because these two have a long history - Adam is Amber's brother who happens to be Emily's bestfriend. And all her life Emily has had a crush on Adam so when she wakes up married to Adam. after a weekend celebrating Amber's birthday in Vegas, she is mindblown and can't help but be a little happy... the teen girl still inside definitely squeeled ahah. These two are forced to stay married for the sake of the reality show and sales. And watching them work up a plan to make things work for both of them is pretty great... soon feelings come back for Emily and Adam realises how the right girl has been in front of his eyes all along. It's a pretty sweet and fun story that will pull you in from the first page until the last.
This an accidental/fake marriage and a bestfriends sibling romance all-in-one and it's a pretty fun and, sometimes a little angsty, ride.

What did I love about this new release by Lisa Suzanne? There was sooo much on that list for me! Crushing for years on her best friends older brother, check. He's a guitar player in a famous band, hello hot rockstar!!! Check. He's sexy and gorgeous but a good guy underneath it all, despite woman throwing themselves at his feet...all the time..BUT, he'd love nothing more than to be in a relationship, not hooking up randomly..really??? Check, check, check! He's funny, kind, caring, wrapped in hotness..what more could a girl want?
Adam is that almost perfect man and Emily is the smart, beautiful woman, who has quietly fantasized about him from afar...forever. Amber, his sister and Emily, her best friend, take a girls weekend roadtrip to Vegas to see Adam's band play and have some much needed fun. You know what happens there is supposed to stay there, right, but what if you get alittle extra, more than you could've ever dreamed of. What if you wake up married? What will happen when you agree to something that confuses the hell out of your well ordered world?
This concept is one of my favorites- the drunken marriage mistake with so much hilarity mixed in as the bride and groom wake up and that lightbulb slowly flickers on in the back of their hungover minds! So priceless! Then, of course, my romance catnip- a hot rocker to make my day complete. I just found myself completely engrossed in their story from the first pages, difficult to put it down 'til I couldn't keep my eyes open one more minute and then reached for my kindle as soon as I woke up. So sad to leave my new characters behind to go to work and then delighted to finish that last 10% to get my perfect, romantic HEA! A wonderful, touching story and so well written in my opinion.
Lovable, witty characters, some exciting drama and angst but not enough to cause mental pain! Swoonworthy, adorable and sometimes romantic inner thoughts by Adam and Emily were woven into the story that just touched my heart. You'll know them when you see them! I also appreciated the sprinkles of humor, smiled to myself so many times and really just loved everything about this gem of a story.
This is my third book by Lisa and I know now that if she writes it, I'll surely be reading it! Must say- Recommend!
My thanks to the author for the pleasure of this early copy to read and review.
Lisa Suzanne has an uncanny way of taking a storyline that some may say at first glance has already been done and making is so unique and original. Her writing is like a Hallmark movie only MUCH better .. just like Hallmark movies always having a first kiss in the last 5 minutes, her books always have a twist that I didn't see coming. And she gave of SO MUCH MORE than a kiss in the last 5 minutes! There were soooo many quotable quotes that I ended up having so much of the book highlighted. I couldn't get enough of Emily & Adam.
And let's not forget Amber's bonus epilogue - I'm telling you, I have NOT laughed so hard in a VERY long time.
SPOILERS: The main heroine was the most indecisive character I have ever read about. She legit changed her mind about everything every couple pages. It was ridiculous. She seriously annoyed me with the whole “I don’t know if he really feels this way but is only saying it for the cameras”🙄 she continued with this the entire book even when he was telling her the exact same things OFF camera. And the double standard in the book is what really solidified this as one of the worst books I’ve ever read. She can go to her friends and talk about the whole kissing scandal but he can’t go to his. She legit got upset with him. Men can talk to their friends about their feelings too. Women do NOT own it. And the last thing I really disliked about this book was her whole “I’m going to tell him one then but think the completely opposite in my head and if he really knows me, he’ll choose the option that I’m saying in my head and not to him” attitude. Very stupid.
I’m a sucker for rock star romances, but this one was definitely not it for me.
Emily… drove me nuts. She swung between immature and worldly, and just never felt fleshed out to me. She shrieked a lot–when she wasn’t giggling. (Oh, man, the giggling. There were 42 giggles in this book, which was aggravating by the end.) It made her feel like a teenager instead of a 24-year-old woman who was coming out of an unfaithful relationship. Honestly, when even Adam thought of Emily as his annoying little sister’s annoying best friend–repeatedly–I should’ve clued in that I just wasn’t going to like her.
Adam was much more likable. By far. He was steadier and willing to go all-in on their relationship much sooner than Emily (who was decidedly wishy-washy about pursuing anything more than a contract despite her repeated assertions of loving him since she was 10 (or 12, whichever fit the plot at the time)). He felt much more balanced and (ridiculous abs aside) relatable.
The relationship in general felt lackluster and uninspired to me. There was far too much will-we-won’t-we on both parts, with each bemoaning the fact that they were falling for the other while the other thought it was just an act for the cameras. The drama with Bree was obnoxiously transparent, and Emily’s reaction to it (especially the second time) was overblown. Yes, she’d been cheated on in the past, but it was so obviously contrived. Even more annoying was that nothing ever came of the tabloid report–it broke, Emily flipped out over Adam’s perceived cheating, and then it kind of just… went away.
I also called Emily as preggers as soon as it was pointed out they didn’t use a condom on their wedding night. So not subtle.
Although proclaimed as a standalone, characters are introduced with their wives like we’re supposed to care who they are. I wish the book had been indicated as being part of a series, rather than a standalone, as reading the (at least) two books preceding it might have helped a lot with that.
The band’s manager is frightfully inconsistent. When she first learns of Adam and Emily’s marriage, she flips out:
>> She glances down at her own engagement ring, holding it up to show me like a damn trophy. “Weddings are supposed to mean something. Marriage is between you and someone you love, not someone you barely know.”
Yet two pages later…
>> “I’m saying maybe what you did last night isn’t the worst thing in the world. I’m saying maybe you need to stay married a little while. All of America saw you and Bree break up on Rock on the Road, Adam. You’re giving them the hope they need that they can have their happy endings even after suffering through a broken heart.”
The concept of marriage is reiterated as being forever by Emily’s mother. Upon learning of her marriage, she tells Emily that the Clarke family marries for life. Although it sounds like it should be sweet and romantic, the attitude irks me, like someone is ruined for life if they marry again. What if a relationship is abusive? What if they’re widowed? Are they supposed to wrap their single marriage around themselves like a security blanket and suck up everything else?
There are a lot of about-faces from characters in general, even aside from Kylie (whose interactions with Emily resulted in a lot of swears in my notes). Amber, supposedly Emily’s best friend, blasts her for saying she’s in love with Adam after a week, then gets all dewy-eyed over her relationship with Rascal. Emily’s parents flip out because Adam didn’t ask her father for permission to marry her and destroyed her mother’s dreams of Emily’s wedding, but relent after a speech from Emily about how it was both of them, not just Adam and get downright happy about their marriage.
It’s worse because Emily puts up with it–she doesn’t call Kylie or Amber or her mother on their BS. She basically smiles and nods, and two paragraph later they’re all best friends again. People don’t treat each other like that in real life without repercussions, nor should they.
In general, the men came through as far more sane than the women, with much less toxic relationships. They were mostly peripheral, though–I honestly can’t remember most of the other band members’ names.
The plot overall was mediocre, jolting from one cliché to the next. It felt like a book I’d read before, even though I’ve never read anything else by this author. Elements were introduced at what felt like a whim–Mitch’s embezzling, anyone?–and petered out.
Another thing that bothered me throughout: the finances. Emily, a bank teller, made $40,000 a year. I may be out of the loop of bank teller wages, but that struck me as high. Adam has the money to not only pay Emily $100,000 to pose as the perfect couple for the camera, but also $3,000,000 to drop on a beach house, so the band is obviously doing well, yet they don’t have a formal accountant? Their manager balances their books after each show? And then turns over the accounting duties to Emily because she’s good with numbers and wants to become an accountant but has not yet had any accounting classes, and she miraculously not only balances the book in an evening but also discovers the aforementioned embezzling? I couldn’t buy it.
The writing was… OK, if repetitive. Word choices could’ve used some help (see above re: giggling, among others). I’m also not sure how it was described as a “romcom”, given there really were no comedic elements and comparatively little romance that wasn’t happening in someone’s head.
In the end, there was just nothing to set this book apart from the pack.
tl;dr For a rock star romcom, there wasn’t much definitive rom and absolutely no com.

Waking Up Married is a fast-laced, low drama and enjoyable read.
Emily has just suffered a breakup and to get her mind off that, she is now accompanying her best friend on a trip to Vegas. And her best friend so happens to be the younger sister of the older brother Emily has crushed on forever. And in her eyes that’s all she’ll ever be to him, his little sister’s best friend.
Adam is a member and the guitarist of the band MFB. He isn’t your typical playboy rockstar. He’s sweet, funny and had me swooning and smiling nonstop. He’s just an overall good guy.
On a drunken night in Vegas Emily and Adam wake up married. Both don’t remember the night before or the events that brought them to marrying each other. Now, Emily is thrown into the spotlight with the guy she’s had a crush on for a long time and is developing serious feelings for, but at the same time who she doesn’t really know. But as Emily and Adam try to navigate through their marriage, they start getting to know each other better and Adam starts developing real feelings for Emily. And who knew that that one drunken night in Vegas would’ve been the beginning of a true and promising romance.
Waking Up Married was an accidental/fake marriage, best friend’s older brother and rockstar romance that was a lighthearted and fun read. Emily and Adam’s story was sweet and brought the smiles. It was also a treat getting to catch up with the other members of MFB. All in all a very solid read.
*I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book*
Vegas wedding, wake up hung over married. Younger sisters best friend. The Hero is in a band but is not a man-whore, in fact he firmly believes in relationships. The heroine catches her boyfriend out cheating prior to getting together with the Hero. Although married, no memory of night together their relationship is a bit slow burn. Ex drama on both sides, worse for the Hero. Secondary characters that either have had a book or have potential for their own book. HEA. Epilogue. No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
Spoiler ahead.
One thing that did concern me the Hero and heroine are so drunk they don't remember their night together though they definitely had sex with no condom. But the heroine has a few days ago found out her boyfriend was cheating and she's on the pill. So what about STDs if the ex cheated? Pregnancy from her ex? These issues weren't even on the radar. No mention of getting tested and she moved on quickly anyway.

My first book by Lisa Suzanne has me coming back for more after devouring Waking Up Married. This rockstar/best friend’s brother romance is one that in some ways is a slow burn that will take you on a headlining tour, as Adam and Emily do a relationship back the front. Feelings that are supposedly based on a contract start to become confusing as eyes become wide open and a young girls dream might just have a chance at coming true. These two will frustrate you sometimes as signals get misconstrued and things aren’t always as they appear. A romance that will give you hearts in your eyes, steamy moments and a soul that will be serenaded by a forever love. Adam will have your heart melting as he pulls out all the stops to show Emily that there are no regrets. If it is romance, friendships, drama and soul deep connections that you crave then this story is a must read for you.
Another great rockstar romance from Lisa Suzanne! Seriously, she is the queen of this genre! And another great Vail/MFB crossover!
Emily has always had a crush on her best friend's brother, Adam (the MFB drummer). A night of celebrating her friend's Amber's birthday in Vegas leads to Adam and Emily waking up the next morning to find out that they are married.
The MFB fans love the story, so Emily and Adam agree to stay together for a while. As they navigate their fake/accidental marriage, feelings grow and they get more attached to one another than they ever imagined. Adam shows a vulnerable side that we haven't seen in the previous books, and he pretty much cemented his place in my heart.
I've yet to read a LS book where I didn't love the hero. (Even Brian, by the end of his duet!)
I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.
Adam and Emily’s story was hard to put down once I started it. This author always comes through for me with the way she brings her rock stars to life. Adam was a brother to Emily’s best friend so she had always been around but not like he sees her now. Of course Emily has had a crush on Adam forever and now with a little trip to Vegas to celebrate her birthday they have a license to prove they are much more.
As with all of Ms. Suzanne’s stories I definitely recommend this book as well.
This is the first story I've read in a long time where the guy is deeper into the relationship than the girl is. Rock star Adam and Emily, his sister's best friend, get drunk and wake up married in Vegas. Add his band-mates, his manager and a reality show, that records everything they say and do, making it difficult to tell what is real and what is pretend. A real recipe for disaster and a lot of doubt about whether their feelings are real or not.
Rock star romance. I've read the waking up married to someone storyline before but this one is done pretty well. I honestly think it would be hard to have cameras every where especially as you are trying to fake/not fake stuff.
Another amazing book by Ms. Suzanne! It just amazes me that she can write such wonderful, insightful, can’t put the book down stories every time.
It had to be hard for Emily to have a crush on Adam since she was in middle school and try hard not to show it. Especially since he always thought of her as his annoying little sister’s annoying best friend. Sometimes our plans don’t go the way we think they are going. Emily found that out when she went to Las Vegas with Amber, her best friend and Adam’s sister, to celebrate Amber’s birthday and then find out she got drunk married to her childhood crush.
Since Adam and his band are going to be filmed again on the road, the band wants the two to stay married, especially since Adam and Bree broke up on the last show that was filmed. I can’t even begin to imagine how it would feel to fake being in love, but really being in love with your husband and not let him know. Sounds confusing huh? The emotions and ups and downs that the two went through were touching and frustrating at times. And then when you throw the ex in—the things that can happen along with misunderstandings can get wild. I was so thankful for the guys in the band having Adam’s back as well as one of the guys’ fiancé helping Emily out. This is a great book that I strongly encourage you to read. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.
Adam, our hero, is the guitarist for MFB, and the brother of our heroine, Emily's, best friend. So, basically, Emily has always nursed a crush on the sexy man most of her life. They all go to Vegas for his sister & her bestie, Amber's birthday, and get sloshed. The next morning, Emily & Adam wake up not remembering much, but it seems that they got married. Shocked as they are, they decide an annulment is first on the menu, but it's not quite that easy to their frustration. His band wants them to stay married for 6 months for ratings on the reality show, plus the sales that it will boost. Seems easy right?! WRONG! They're spending enough time with each other that they find they have potent chemistry, and while that shoots sparks everywhere, that chemistry soon has them catching complicated feelings. Lisa Suzanne is a master at her craft, especially when it comes to her light, rock star stories which I simply can't get enough of. Not only is there a push & pull, but heat, with a side of humor which kept me laughing throughout. So, how does it all pan out at the end of the day?! Hit that one click button immediately to find out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
I'm such a huge fan of Lisa Suzanne’s rock star romances. I can always count on her to deliver an unputdownable, funny, feel-good romance, which is I read her books time and time again. And once again, she has penned another winner with Waking Up Married. It was right up my alley, and I loved everything about it. An imaginative plot coupled with endearing characters in a sweet and sexy romance that is both heart-tugging and heartwarming. This was pure rock star perfection from start to finish.
I loved Adam and Emily’s story! It hooked me right until the end. I couldn’t put it down. Blending the tropes of rockstar romance with best friend’s sibling and accidental/fake marriage made for an addictive and super fun read. Every character were all relatable and endearing, making this story a sweet, sexy, funny, light-hearted, and heart-warming.
Simply romantic and simply entertaining. Once again, Lisa Suzanne creates plots that warm the hearts and tugs at the emotions. I absolutely loved all of the subplots of the book as well and look forward to the next one.
After finding out that her boyfriend is just the latest in a string of bad decisions when it comes to men Emily’s best friend Amber convinces her to come to Vegas with her so that they can celebrate her birthday and watch her brother Adam’s band perform.
What ensues becomes a night that they won’t be able to forget. The crush that Emily had as teenager on Adam has returned hotter than ever but this time around Adam starts to see her as a woman rather than his sister’s best friend. A few laughs, some conversation and no shortage of alcohol has them surfacing the next morning as Mr. and Mrs.
Their plans to end their alliance quickly and quietly becomes a no go after the media frenzy that occurred due to their nuptials. A short term marriage of convenience seems like the perfect solution what could possibly go wrong?
Not only are Emily and Adam great characters but there is a amazing cast of secondary characters as well. This story takes you on a fun journey filled with hot chemistry, humorous banter and all the feels.
Emily has had a major crush on Adam, her best friend’s older brother and lead guitarist of MFB, since she was a little girl. Adam has always thought about Emily as his annoying little sister’s annoying best friend. But when they both reunite in Las Vegas he starts to see her in a different light. And why not have some fun together now that they are both single? But after a night of partying and drinking, they wake up married. Now for the benefit of the band they have to fake the marriage for six months. Six months to decide if it was a drunken mistake or a new beginning.
I had so much fun with this story, and I cried a little too. What I liked the most is that Adam is not your typical rock star, partying and having one night stands. And it was a relief, I’m so tired of that kind of characters. And Emily was just perfect, genuine and lovable. And the secondary characters are the perfect complement to their story. I won’t say anything else because I don’t want to spoil it. Just that it was a well written story that made me fall in love.
A rockstar romance with a twist. Emily is best friends with his sister. Lisa took these two and merged them into an unforgettable and heartfelt love story.
Who would think the irony of watching Dumb and Dumber would prove to Emily that she's in the wrong relationship. But due to that breakup she gets the opportunity to go with her best friend to Vegas.
Adam...he breaks the mold for book boyfriend. He's not what you would expect from a rock star. This man will make you swoon. He's funny, handsome and ladies he remembers what Emily tells him. I'd put a ring on that just for that alone!!!
I loved these characters, Amber and the rest of the backup hold their own yet help our leads shine bright and loud. The scenes pull you in and have you seeing and feeling as they do. Such a flawless story that it would so tragic to miss. You won't be disappointed, in fact you'll want to experience it over again and again. I received an ARC for an honest and voluntarily review.
Sometimes you can read too much of the same genre before burning out on it. But Lisa Suzanne's stories have me coming back for more Rock Star romance. Each new book she writes, I find a new hero to fall for. I love Adam and Emily's story. I had the butterflies when these two got together. I loved when we see familiar characters from previous books because it always brings that "Coming to home" kind of feeling. What a great ride Waking up Married will take you. So much swooning happens!!! I could not put this book down.
Lisa Suzanne hits it out of the park again with this funny and witty rom-com starring one of our favorite band members from MFB. I really am glad she revisited our boys with this story. Adam is one of the unheard of rock stars...you know...the one that DOESN'T want all the one night stands. He wants his forever love and he thought Bree was it. Turns out she wasn't....but will he ever be able to find "The ONE"? Emily has crushed on Adam since she was a kid...well before MFB became a household name. But he loved Bree and she was with Chad...until she wasn't. The two of them seem to have the same life goals, but live in such completely different worlds. Will their drunken mistake crush them or will they...somehow...find exactly what they are looking for?
I really enjoyed this story! Adam is a rockstar who isn’t into one night stands like most other famous people are. Emily is Adam’s little sisters best friend, and has always had a massive crush on him. When she finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her, Adam’s sister invites her to Las Vegas to see Adam and his band. When they wake up after a night they don’t remember, they’re married. When Adam’s band is offered another season of their reality tv show, to help Adam’s image, they ask Emily to stay married to him for six months. Both of them are feeling things that they are scared about, and both are unsure of their future. Great read!
Waking Up Married is a good read. I really liked Adam he's a different type of book boyfriend. He's a rockstar but he's not a hookup type of guy, he's looking for a relationship. Emily is Adam's sister's best friend. Emily is going through a rough time. Emily has just gained an ex-boyfriend and goes to Vegas with Amber to see Adam's band. Emily is a down to earth girl and I really liked her. These two are great characters and have a great story to tell.
You know how it is. Your best friends and one who has a cute older brother. But in his eyes your kust his little sisters annoying best friend. THEN BAM!!!! Your not so annoying anymore, your not even little and your now seen as a woman. This was a great story that was really hard to put down. I loved it
I loved everything about this book. I was addicted to Emily and Adam from the beginning. It was everything you’d love in a good rockstar romance. I loved the connection and the chemistry is combustible. I loved the drama and the rockers and the pure romance storyline. It was a heartwarming feel good funny and romantic book.
I've read numerous rock star romances with this same premise and while I liked the idea of this book, the execution was drama, drama, and more drama. I never felt like the characters were fully developed and we never really saw their relationship develop which was disappointing. I went in expecting more and unfortunately it fell short of my expectations.
