I don't read many western novels. I'm more of a fantasy/sc-fi guy. But I wanted to check this one out. And I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed it. It's well-written and well-paced. I liked that this western tale drifted from the typical desert setting and featured a town on the edge of the ocean. It's got a nice mix of likeable good guys, scummy bad guys, and middle-of-the-road characters who flesh out the story and make the world real.

This was an incredibly interesting story with many interesting and exciting twists and turns. From the sea town of Indianola, to a ranch on the prairie, this is quite a ride. The characters were very real and you feel you get to know them on a very personal level. Their is fun, banter, friendships, heartache, loss, war, the facing of fears, and many ways that life's path can change in an instant.
