About the author A true southern girl, Alexandria House has an affinity for a good banana pudding, Neo Soul music, and tall black men in suits. When this music-loving fashionista is not shopping, she's writing steamy stories about real black love.
3.5 stars. I think I'm still trying to sort out my feelings about this one
I've been reading a good bit of Alexandria House this year and I've been enjoying it. I forgot that I had a copy of this short novella on my kindle so I decided to pick it up since I've been reading quite a few holiday romances. This short book is a second chance romance that focuses on the relationship between Navy and Lakeland. There clearly was an abrupt interruption to their relationship and the reader learns more about that as they make their way through the story. This is the first time that I've seen a romance novel that focuses on a very specific mental illness (I don't want to reveal because of spoilers). While I know that this is a short novella (House makes that very clear in the summary/description), I wished greatly that she would have considered making this a full length novel with the addition of this specific mental illness. I think that it deserved a little more exploration in light of how it affected the relationship between Navy and Lakeland. As always, it was well written with an HEA; however, that small addition made me want more and deeper conversation and explanation.
Navy and Lakeland ran up against something that strikes more AA families than most would know necause it not talked about. Mental illness uts real and its a strugke. Foe Navy and Lake it was a barrier. This Chritmas they got a miracle. That illusive love everlasting was thrre and still living large in there hearts.
Thaks to Alexandria House for given something small but strong for the holidays. Love can work you through some hard times. You have to be willing to try. And thank you for the grace very Uncle Lee Chester.
Very quick read, I think 23’ish pages. Second chance romance between Navy and Lakeland. I really loved and respected the fact that Navy lives with schizophrenia; that’s rep I haven’t seen so far in a romance, especially as the heroine.
I truly enjoy this author's short stories. It was amazing the powerful message and subject matter discussed. Nicely written with a touch of humor added at the right time. Great holiday read
3.5 stars This was a short and sweet 2nd chance love story. Navy and Lake had been high school sweethearts until Navy faces a health situation that she doesn't want to burden Lake with so she lets him go. It's now 3 years later and with his heart on his sleeve, come hell and high water Lake is determined to get his girl back.
Author Alexandria House knows how to write incredible stories and is not afraid to write about true reality.
This short story (Novella) is about Lakeland and Navy. Navy unexpectedly broke up with Lakeland 3 years ago but not for what immediately comes to people's minds, no it was due to mental illness more specifically Schizophrenia.
This story is so real because many of us know someone or several people who suffer from this dreaded illness, and how helpless we feel because there is no cure, only medications that a person must take. So the things that many of us take for granted that person who battles with mental illness would love for things to be normal in their life.
Lakeland and Navy are a couple who if given a chance can be each other forever Christmas.
Great story. Loved this short story. I was kinda shocked at the reason Navy broke up with Lake. It was very touching that he was determined to get her back.
Navy and Lakeland's story was a short, sweet House treat! The author never forgets how to make us laugh, roll on the floor and cheer for her characters. Even with seriousness in the story, we still had lighter moments with this story about an illness affecting a couple deeply in love. The characters always bring the most, with No hearing Aunt Princess and a host of others who were hilarious. The puppy's name Lol you all.... Maybe we'll see them again in a full length story. Lakeland is on my list with the McClain men...
I’ am really impressed with your profile 💐🌷🌹🌺 and your personality. ❤️❤️ I also admire your good sense of humor here.🥀❤️❤️ I don’t usually write in comments but I think you deserve this compliment 💯🌹💐🌺 I’d love to be your friend if you don’t mind! and if that’s okay with you,

What in the hell did I just read??!!! I read the synopsis and reviews and it sounded like a good short Christmas story, far from it. I was going to give a detailed review as to why I did not like this story, but I did not want to bash the author's work. Who names a dog b*tch?? Come b*tch, fetch b*tch, sit b*tch....... Ugh!!! Zero stars for wasting my time!!!
Navy unexpectedly ends her relationship with Lakeland and never looked back. In her mind, she was freeing him from a life of burden. Lakeland’s back, he wants Navy and he is NOT taking no for an answer.
My girl never disappoints .This story is short, sweet, important and it somehow managed to rip me to shreds. Like I felt like a spotlight was pointed at me the whole time I was reading.I connected with Navy on such a personal level, that my hands started to shake while she described her feelings . I felt her pain, her worry, her struggles. Navy is me. I am Navy. Lakeland was everything. He was patient, lovable and supportive Everything that she needed. Now you know it ain’t an Alex House story if you ain’t cackling like crazy LOL! Even with the sincerity of this story, she was able to lighten the story with humor. The secondary characters came with it as always and baby that blessing from the Deacon had me squealing 🤣.That deacon a hotep and he long winded 🤣🤣.When I heard the dog’s name I couldn’t control myself 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. I must have a full length story of Navy and Lake. I have so many questions. Thank you Ms House for a Christmas story that involves Mental Illness. You are one dope soul! If you want a Christmas novella that brings love, awareness and laughs. This is for you. Treat yoself
I’m starting to love short stories and this one did not disappoint. The name of the moms dog is hilarious and I love how I can envision everything that was going on. She’s my new favorite author
I've previously read this a while back. But this little story was super sweet. After an incident Navy thought it was best to walk away from Lakeland. But he wouldn't have it. He was on a mission to get his sweetheart back. Super cute, suuuuppper short.
Just finished this spicy holiday short story about a second chance romance. Navy broke up with Lakeland because she felt her mental health issues made her a burden, and she’s been working hard to build a solid solo life, so she’s a little put out to find him at her family Christmas party. Lakeland is a Doctor, the good, compassionate kind that see people’s issues as something to support them thru, not something that defines them. These two obviously still love each other and have blistering chemistry, but will Navy let Lakeland be there for her ?
This is a great short story, and it was so nice to have a protagonist dealing constructively with mental health issues. Navy had a paranoid schizophrenic episode and pushed Lakeland away because she was afraid of hurting him, but she’s on very helpful meds now. Her fear is totally understandable and I loved how Lakeland reassured her that he knew the paranoia wasn’t her and he wanted to be there for her.
CW:some swearing, references to past stressful situations due to paranoid schizophrenia, a father who ditched the family and hot car sex.

a situation from the past left navy thinking she was doing right by lakeland by leaving him 3 years ago. but in all tht time lakeland’s feelings haven’t changed & he’s still in love w her. and he’s determined to get her back, no matter wht! this was such a cute & quick second chance romance!!
Thanks for the short story but a valuable message there is still love even if a person is schizophrenic there is medicine and just being loving and kindness. Thanks again
Such a quick story! It touched on mental illness which is something different for a holiday book. It was interesting and in the end still gave you some of the feel good holiday feel. Alexandria House never disappoints.
