teach toddlers and thought this would be a good book to help lay the foundation for sharing and for being a good friend. Most of them are familiar with Sesame Street which helped.

Cookie Monster wants to thank Elmo for sharing his precious toys on a play date, and comes up with the idea of making cookies for him. A hand made gift is a lovely idea and the illustrations showing the baking process were adorable. Alas, poor Cookie Monster finds his willpower is not as strong as his passion for cookies; he just can't resist eating them before he can pass them to Elmo. With help from Bert and Ernie, Cookie finds a way to bake, and give, cookies to Elmo.

Cookies for Elmo is a message book but it's done gently and with humor. Young children will enjoy the pictures and the humor and it's a good conversation starter for talking about sharing, friendship, cooperation, and delayed gratification. My class of one and two year olds sat fairly still while we read it and liked looking at the pictures.

I received a free copy through the Sourcebooks Early Reads program in exchange for an honest review.

I really loved this book. Cookie Monster is so funny. He really loves his cookies. He spent such a fun day with Elmo that he wanted to do something nice for him. He decided to bake cookies for Elmo. What is Cookie Monsters favorite treat? Well of course Cookies!

He couldn't help himself and ate the whole batch. He did another batch to only do the same thing. He finally was given the best idea ever, why not bake the cookies with Elmo? That is exactly what he did. He shared the fun of baking with his best friend Elmo and they both ate from the cookies. At the end of the book is a cookie recipe. I loved the illustrations. If I was baking the cookies for a friend I would have done the same thing. I love chocolate chip cookies too. Children are going to enjoy this book.

Cookies for Elmo is another fun, engaging, and educational Sesame Street friends book. This particular adventure is about sharing with friends. It also displays Elmo and his friend having fun while baking cookies together. They share the goodies with friends and with each other. Sharing is not only a right thing to do but a fun thing to do. This teaches children about sharing, how to share with others, and how to make giant chocolate chip cookies! As a teacher, I recommend this book to all teachers and parents.

I received this copy from the publisher. This is my voluntary review.

COOKIES FOR ELMO is a fantastic picture book about sharing. Cookie and Elmo are playing together, and Elmo is sharing all his great toys with Cookie. Cookie loves the way it helps their friendship grow, and he wants to also share something with Elmo in return. He thinks of the perfect thing- cookies! He makes a batch to give to Elmo, but uh-oh, he eats them. He makes a second batch and walks them over to Elmo's house. However, he is having trouble controlling himself and ends up eating those too.

He then talks to Bert and Ernie about his problem- and together, they come up with the perfect solution.

What I loved: This book is highly relatable for children who may be thinking about how to grow friendships and/or struggle with sharing or self-control. I also really loved that Cookie wanted to share, even if he was having trouble doing so. So many books about sharing focus on a character who is adamantly against it, and this comes at the topic from a different angle. I also love the problem-solving he does through a friendly brainstorm with Bert and Ernie where they help him think of other solutions. There is also a great lesson throughout about why sharing matters- because it helps you build friendships and build stronger connections and because it shows your friends that you care and have fun.

The writing is all in rhyme that rolls off the tongue smoothly. I love the rhythm of the book as it is read aloud, and the images are perfect with favorites from Sesame Street and plenty of color. This is a bit of a longer picture book, which is great for older toddlers, preschoolers, and early elementary aged readers.

Final verdict: With great lessons about friendship and sharing, COOKIES FOR ELMO is a great picture book read that will appeal to young readers. Recommend whether or not you already have a good sharer.

Please note that I received a review copy through Sourcebooks Early Reads. All opinions are my own.

R(9): I liked that Cookie finally figured out how to share with Elmo!

P(7): Cookie tried and tried to make cookies for Elmo; he wanted to share. I like that he figured out how to share the cookies in the end.

M(4): She loved that they ate cookies together!

My thoughts: I love a good children's book that is entertaining to both children and parents alike, especially if there's a lesson to be had in the end. You could see how hard Cookie tried, how much he truly wanted to share his cookies, but being a cookie monster, this was no easy feat. Luckily, in the end, he found the perfect workaround with helpful advice from a few friends. The kiddos and I plan to make some cookies with the enclosed recipe soon; it's about time to break in the holiday baking season!

I received a finished copy as part of the Sourcebooks First to Read program. Two well-known monster friends love to spend time together. Elmo shares his toys and Cookie Monster wants to show Elmo he can share too. After struggling to share his favorite thing in the world, Bert and Ernie give Cookie Monster a new way to both share his cookies and his time with Elmo. This fun rhyming picture book includes a small-batch recipe for the cookies at the end that families can bake together and learn to share just like the Sesame Street friends. This will make an excellent gift for families, maybe even including some of the baking ingredients to complete the package.

Sweet Sarah! We are extremely proud of your reading achievement about Elmo and his cookies. The act of sharing brings happiness to everyone because giving some of our treats to friends creates a greater sense of joy than holding everything for ourselves. You should practice sharing your snacks and toys with others at school because it strengthens your friendships. The act of sharing demonstrates love which helps friendships grow stronger. Your reading skills and your kind nature are developing wonderfully. Keep up the excellent work sweetheart! Love, Mommy & Daddy

I received this book as a review copy for Source Books. This was a wonderful story about caring and sharing. Elmo, the cookie lover, learns that the most important part of enjoying a cookie is having someone to share it with. The bonus was the cookie recipe in the back.
