A bank robber on the run locks himself in with an over-enthusiastic estate agent, two bitter IKEA-addicts, a pregnant woman, a suicidal multi-millionaire and a rabbit. In the end the robber gives up and lets everyone go, but when the police storm the apartment it is . . . empty.

In a series of dysfunctional testimonies after the event, the witnesses all tell their version

I was anxious to read this book, good anxious, as in I couldnt wait to read it. Fredrik Backman has been on my list of favorite authors since I read A Man Called Ove several years ago. Ive have read all of his published books and I loved all of them. But when I started reading this one, I became anxious in another way. I was anxious because I thought I was going to end up not liking the book. Its kind of a quirky story, bizarre at times. The narrator even says , The whole thing is a

I think my vocabulary is so limited to express how this book made me feel. Yes, it shook me so hard but it also entertained the hell of me. It was tragic, tear jerker, but it was also funny, enjoyable, witty! It was action packed, riveting, heart throbbing but it was also thought-provoking, complex, dazzling, deceptive, educational and heartfelt.

I know you got confused. How a book makes laugh so hard and then makes you cry like a baby and also hooks you up from its riveting, exciting chapters

(yes I know it's being published on September 8th and yes i know it's my favorite book of 2020)

I didn't want this to end so I read it a second time and some parts more than that, and I'm sad that it's time to call time, but it is.

This is a the story of a bank robber who, oops, tries to rob a cashless bank then panics, runs across the street and right into a realtor's apartment viewing, panicking even more and taking everyone there hostage. The opening sentence of

ANXIOUS PEOPLE is another perfect example of why Fredrik Backman's writing is so magnificent. His characters are funny and complex and real, his stories are relatable yet fantastical and full of depth, and you can almost always guarantee there will be as many tears as there are laughs when you're lost in the pages of his good books. This novel is all of that and more, and longtime fans and new ones will be delighted to own this book in September 2020. I won't say more about the plot because it's ...more

*anxiously waiting to read this book about anxious people*
Its always such a treat to read a Fredrik Backman book.

I confess, my reading slump is the worst its been in many years. The current climate doesnt do anything for my literature reading mojo, still, I pushed myself to read this.

I loved the plot and the concept of this book and how Backman brought everyones stories together.
Yet again, Backmans understanding of human nature shines through. Everybody has a story, everybody hurts and most people have anxieties, ranging from daily life anxieties to

I'm not sure what I'm deducting a star for - possibly that there was just a little too much touchy-feely insight. Nonetheless, since I had this as audio, I found myself wanting be out more and longer to listen.

Backman is in fine form here, when he delves into a failed robbery and subsequent hostage taking of a group of people at an apartment viewing. After the hostage situation has resolved itself, the robber is nowhere to be found. So what really happened?

We get to follow the odd set of

I did not love the first part of this book. I definitely didn't hate it, but I just found the characters so incredibly annoying that I couldn't really enjoy the book as much as I would like. But they grow on me, and I fell a little bit in love with some of them. (view spoiler) After about 120 pages is where the book went from probably a three star read to a four/five star ...more

Two and a half stars, rounded up.

Under translation. The English title is Anxious People. Will be published in English during spring 2020.

A bunch of people, each of them with their individual traumas, are gathered together in a flat which is up for sale. A failed bank robber suddenly turns up, and take them as hostage.

Two cops, who happen to be father and son, arrive. But there is no bank robber to be found. In a series of very strange witness hearings, the two policemen try to find out. And they

The weakest of Backmans books in My opinion. I chuckled a little from time to time att some the jokes was rare and some of them felt flat. The serious moments and emotional moments was packed in this book. A bit to many for my taste.

The overall story was ok.

It dragged on for a bit towards the end.

I love the way that Fredrik Backman makes you think about bank robbers, policemen, real estate agents, bank managers, actors, retirees, flower shop owners, and lesbians. He says they are all idiots, which I don't doubt. In his story the bank robber flees the bank because it is one that doesn't use money. We're talking Sweden. The robber runs out of the bank and across the street up into an apartment which is showing with a lot of people in it. The bank robber holds the people hostage. This is ...more

[Leaving this here until the English translation is up. Thank you Main Street Books for the ARC, you are the best bookstore in the universe!]

My absolute favorite Backman yet to date!

I was a little nervous about the larger cast of characters (most of which were trapped in a room together), but Backman pulled it off wonderfully and delivered a sucker-punch of an ending. His writing is both warm and introspective, deep and silly. You'll cry a lot but you'll laugh a whole lot more. This book in

You know when you start pulling a loose thread on a sweater? Frederik Backman's new book Anxious People is like that. You want to chase after the thread and the people in the book who have become fast friends. You will laugh and cry sometimes in the same paragraph. How he can weave such a tale getting you into the heads of these characters is incredible. So relieved he didn't have just one good book in him but will be around for a long time. We are all anxious people and this is so relatable. ...more

Oh, so so good. Backman is one of those writers who for most of the book youre thinking, this is a good book. I like it. But then you get to like the last 20 pages & youre like sobbing, this is the best book Ive ever read in my life! He always pulls all the pieces of the book together perfectly and has such a message of being kind and compassionate to other people, of tolerance, and being kind and compassionate to yourself. Loved it and will be recommending it to everyone. ...more

Just Backman - very touching.
Dear Fredrik Backman,

I love you. In like a totally platonic way. But I still want to give you a big ole hug. Because the way you write is just so... Funny. Warm. Clever. Human. And it makes me happy. And sad. And snort with laughter. And feel like there's someone out there who gets it. The human condition.

So, this is a story about a bank robbery gone horribly wrong. Or maybe it's a story about a hostage situation. Or a bridge. Or making bad decisions. Or maybe it's a story about idiots.

I expected a lot from this book as I always do with Fredrik Backmans' books but it gave me even more. It is different from his other books although they always have something in common. It can't be described with a few sentences so my only advice can be - read it. Fredrik Backman is without any doubt my favourite author since 'A man called Ove' until now!

This is a story about a lot of things, but mostly about idiots. So it needs saying from the outset that that its always very easy to declare that other people are idiots, but only if you forget how idiotically difficult being human is.

Life Is hard. We all face struggles every day that we feel might be our breaking point. And sometimes because of these struggles we make really bad decisions. Decisions that could make a lot of people think were all a bunch of idiots. But we often forget one
