In The Nick Of Time
By: Deedee Cummings

REVIEW ☆☆☆☆☆

Everything about In The Nick Of Time by Deedee Cummings is delightfully charming.
As a way to show her son, Nick, that boys of color do appear in Christmas stories, Deedee created this heartfelt story. In addition to her words are lovely whimsical illustrations reminiscent of vintage toys and cartoons from illu
In the Nick of Time, it is about learning the meaning of Christmas. This book brings home that meaning though a little boy. There a letter then comes to him by mistake but will he learn that there are more things to be thankful and show kindness.

There is a boy who just wants a toy for his little brother and a job for his mom and nothing for himself. Will Nick figure it out that there are more important things rather than what he wants. You know, giving is better than receiving. Children can lear

I don’t usually review holiday books, but I had to make an exception for In the Nick of Time by Deedee Cummings. Although the story takes place during the Christmas season, the messages from this story are applicable in every season. And with my focus on global messages and diversity, this book touched on many aspects that I look for in a book.
I was surprised to learn from the author of this book that there are not many books that feature children of color as a strong role model for the Christma

My Thought’s On This Book

I really love this special story about a little boy named Nick Saint. Nick was like a lot of kids that have so much stuff, that he didn’t think of those who didn’t have until a letter came in the mail one day. What a clever name for a child character in a Christmas book. It makes for a lot of fun around the Holidays. The other does an amazing job in creating this character.

In the Nick of Time is a beautiful reminder of the importance of Christmas, of helping others, not judging a book by their cover and how we can all make a difference in the lives of others regardless of our age. The book starts off with a special message from Deedee to her son. Deedee had found that too often, so many young children of colour do not see themselves in the stories they read (especially around holidays), and she hopes that this book shows them that they too can be a leader, and sav ...more

First and foremost, I have to say; I loved the dedication from the author so much. (If you passed it, go back and read it. It’s a must before you start this story!)

This is a super cute read and while the suggested age is 3-7, I think everyone could use a “heart lesson” and learn from In the Nick of Time. Not only is the holiday season what giving is all about, but it is a great lesson in being humble; remembering what you have to be grateful for; remembering and accepting others differences; and

This is a fantastic read for Christmas. I think it is a great read for all ages. I hope this will make many parents think as they read this to their children. There are great illustrations and the story made me cry. I loved the ideas that this will give everyone who reads it. I received a copy of this book from ireadbooktours for a fair and honest opinion that I gave of my own free will.

In the Nick of Time is a beautifully written by Cummings. It teaches children the value of empathy for others. I loved how Nick's mother told him to open the letter and learn from it. Nick learned to help his friend who he had no idea was having problems. I think it's a story that both adults and children alike should read. It will remind us that we are all a tribe and a tribe must help each other. Add some Christmas magic and you have an amazing book! A Must read and a great Christmas gift!  ...more

The juvenile fiction book, In the Nick of Time, displays an eye-opening and life-changing experience for a self-centered boy. It subtly exudes joy, hope, love, and faith.

Nick Saint’s thoughts are unconstructive and fairly selfish in the beginning of this story. His actions aren’t exactly respectful, to the dismay of his mother. But things begin to change when he receives a letter meant for Santa. He soon discovers an important and unexpected gift—The gift of giving and caring for others.

"In the Nick of Time” by Deedee Cummings, is a beautiful Holiday book about compassion, awareness, kindness and how helping others can make us feel good and it's above all, necessary.

Nick, the main character, is a young boy that learns about a school colleague in a difficult situation and works to help him out. The story is heartfelt and really well written.

The choice of humor and words/vocabulary that appeal to young readers, allows readings aloud with children to be fun and keep the groups int

In the Nick of Time conveys a message that many children and adults often need to be reminded of.

Though other books have brought about the message of giving rather than receiving, this one is a bit unique in that Nick is a little brown boy who helps make Christmas better for another family. The story allows the reader to explore thoughts regarding privilege as well as those who are experiencing hard times.

I love that it encourages discussions which might lead to helping others in various ways.

In the Nick of Time was a heartwarming children’s story that drew me in from the first page.

The author very nicely shows the true meaning of Christmas and how we have to think about others and be grateful for what we have. It’s very accurate what the author mentioned that they do not teach or talk about these topics in school. Moreover, it’s vital to be thankful for what you have from a young age because that impacts the kind of

I chose to read this book after receiving a free copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.

What a great Christmas story for children! One of the things I like most about this book is that the characters are realistic. Nick is really into playing video games, and he has a bad habit of calling things stupid. He’s a typical kid!

One thing that’s not typical about him is his name: Nick Saint. He never realized it before, but when the mailman makes a mistake and delivers a l

Nick Saint is a very selfish boy until a letter addressed to Saint Nick is mistakenly left at his house and he is shown a world that he never knew existed. Someone named Cooper E. asks Santa to help his mom find a job so that they can have a place to live and his little brother can have a truck for Christmas. Suddenly, Nick gets a glimpse of the real world where people are homeless, children are hungry, and luxuries are non-existent. He is also reminded what Christmas should truly be: a time for ...more

In the Nick of Time is a sweet children's book set during Christmas. A little boy named Nick Saint (who comes across as slightly bratty and entitled at first) receives a letter in the mail meant for Saint Nick (aka Santa Claus). He scoffs and calls the letter "stupid" because he didn't receive the video game he's been waiting for, and because the letter isn't meant for him. But when his mom calls out his behavior and language, then tasks him with helping the other boy who wrote the letter (and h ...more

There are so many wonderful Christmas books for children. In the Nick of Time is a great new children’s book that is filled with the true spirit of Christmas. The story is about a little boy named Nick who lives with his parents. He’s a typical little boy at Christmas time, who is excited about what he wants for Christmas. He’s impatient and a little spoiled. His parents want to teach him how to care about others. At the beginning of the book he is acting self-centered and rude. But, after a let ...more

Nick Saint was like most children his age – wrapped up in his own life, unaware of those around him. But when the mail carrier leaves a letter addressed to Saint Nick, Nick’s life will change forever. For the first time in his life he wants something for someone else. Cooper, a boy in his class at school, lives in a shelter with his family and has asked Santa to find his mother a job. Nick, with the support of his parents, makes this the best Christmas ever for Cooper – and for Nick.

What a fun reminder about being grateful for what we have. We loved this book. It reminded me of my 9 year olds world view - about how all he wants to do is play video games and wants more video games. However, then Nick realizes after a mail mix up that there are less fortunate out there. They even go to the same school. Nick realizes that he has to do something. The selfish kid becomes the selfless kid. It was a heartwarming story that all need to read especially this year. It is well written, ...more

This delightful children’s holiday picture book has a moral lesson for all ages.

Little Nick Saint doesn’t realize the significance of his name until he mistakenly receives a letter addressed to Saint Nick. On the way to saving Christmas for a classmate, Nick learns valuable lessons on gratitude, helpfulness, caring, and sharing with those less fortunate.

The illustrations by Charlene Mosley bring each scene vividly to life.

A cute book that explores a little boy learning about the joys of giving, as well as realizing that not everyone has the blessings of home and security. Nick Saint gets a letter that is meant for Saint Nick and it ends up teaching him a whole lot more than any letter ever had before. My favorite thing about this book was the parents allowing Nick to come up with some of his own solutions to the need that he saw. Our kids are far more generous than society and our consumer culture gives them cred ...more

In the Nick Of Time is another wonderful book for younger readers by Deedee Cummings. It was so great for my young ones to have their attention captured with this story from start to finish. I was just as entertained as they were and enjoyed teaching them some valuable lessons that was within the pages of the book. I love that Nick Saint was able to find what is important and to be thankful for what he already has. Such a great reminder for us all.

There is a note at the end of this book where the author talks about how as a child, there were not holiday stories that showed children of the same color as her. So as an adult, she wrote one. I cried reading this. What a beautiful offering to the children of our world!
