Everyone in Delta Cameron’s life has been taken from her, her parents and her husband. Everyone except her young daughter. Now, claiming Delta can't care properly for a child with epilepsy, her wealthy mother-in-law is threatening to take Abby from her as well. The only place Delta knows to go where the lawyers serving papers can’t find her, is the cottage her aunt left her in the Texas coastal town.
In Port Hope, Delta allows her heart to grieve and begins to trust the unconventional locals: a craftsman, Coffee, who lost his leg to cancer, and yet is as happy-go-lucky as the mutt who’s adopted him; Fitz and Red, quarreling fishermen who have split the beach between them yet won’t fish if the other isn’t there; and Beulah, the cantankerous bar owner who, like Delta, has worries about her own daughter. Just when Delta begins to trust again, her mother-in-law finds them.
“Clover Autrey’s books are perfect for the time-constrained reader. They are a quick read jam-packed with action, adventure and emotion.”
A high school English teacher by day, Clover Autrey writes the kind of stories she loves to read; strong and smart characters who are willing to fight for what they believe and the people they love. She is the author of the HIGHLAND SORCERY series and the CHAPEL PINES series with a new series about ARMY RANGER BILLIONAIRES coming soon.
Clover has served as the president of the Keller Writers Association and the North Texas Romance Writers of America.
Inspired by her love of Louis L'Amour historical romantic heroes, Clover (yeah, that's her real name), packed up and moved to Texas where she found a real live Texan of her own. She's been there ever since where she and Pat (who else would a Clover marry but a Patrick?) listen to the coyotes howl at the trains each evening.
“You can’t stop life from happening, Delta. But you can start to enjoy it.” Ms. Autrey has written a warm and endearing story with a plot that will have readers fully engaged and unable to put the book down until the last page has turned.
The author wrote a beautiful story of one mother's determination and grit to protect & care for her special needs daughter. It's an easy read with supporting characters, in a quiet sea town until the mother in-law finds them. I won this in exchange for my review.
Beautiful and heartwarming story, with well drawn characters who are easy to become invested in and actually care about. Interesting story which is well worth reading.
This is an emotional story with great characters and it is all about second chances. Delta has lost everyone in her life and she only has Abby left. Abby has constant seizures and they try different medicines to get them under control. Abby wants so much to go to school, but Delta is afraid to let her out of her sight. Delta's mother-in-law has decided that she can care for Abby better than Delta can and so plans to gain custody of her. Delta takes Abby and runs to a place where she hopes they can't find them. What she finds is a love and acceptance she has never felt before from the whole town. They are all ready to help her fight for custody if it comes to that. Delta doesn't think she can survive if they take her daughter from her. With the help of a one legged man, a dog, a couple of feuding men, a crusty woman and the rest of the town, she just might make it.
I won the book in a Goodreads giveaway in exchange for my honest review. Honestly, I entered the giveaway because of the title. There is a village called Port Hope near me in the Thumb of Michigan. I probably wouldn't have ever heard about this book otherwise. As it turned out, this book was exactly what I needed it read. Yes, it was predictable. It could have used some editing, and there was an insta-love element to it. It was also an uplifting story that made me happy as I read. I would classify it as a comfort read, and recommend it to anyone who wants a quick and easy story to escape into for a day.
This is the first Goodreads Giveaway I have won. This was a sweet, wholesome story. No sex, cursing, etc. Reminded me a bit of a Hallmark movie. There was a single woman, her child, a love interest, and, of course, a dog. Thanks to Goodreads for gifting this book to me!
Thank you to Clover Autrey and Goodreads.com I won this book in a Giveaway.
Wonderful story reminding all of us that you need to be able to have people in your life that you trust. It doesn't matter how they get there, how long they stay or that they don't do things exactly like you. Feel good about second chances and forgiveness, brought me into the world of epilepsy that I am not familiar with.
Very easy read with depth to the characters and a plot that captivated this reader. I enjoyed the seaside in a different way with the challenges met by the folks in the story. Thanks to the author for keeping the book clean yet engaging.
One amazing mother coping alone with a young daughter, making the best decisions she can. One small town accepting them without judgement and one of the most emotional novels I’ve read in a while. I loved it and the real relationships in it. Can’t wait to read more by this author.
I know very little about epilepsy so found the information provided in the story very interesting. The love Delta has for Abby is endless. The ending felt a bit rushed for all that occurred in such a short time period. The overall story was lovely.
Sweet story about a mama who just needs a second chance. When she is trying to raise her daughter alone and mother-in-law tried to take the daughter she ran. Luckily she had a beach cottage left to her from her aunt. Unluckily it was in a horrible condition. This was a great quick read. Glad I read it. I won this copy from a GoodReads giveaway. But I would have paid. Will have to read more by this author
