Another book from the library. The part about running mechanics was excellent. I am sure that I have read about it before but the author really manages to bring his points across. There is the picture of the jockey on a horse to visualize how upper and lower body have to work together, or the wrist flick. I also enjoyed the explanation how the arm drive mobilizes muscles to propel you forward. It's important to keep them in a 90° angle (and not like T-Rex). 5 out of 5 stars until here.

The chapter about Breathing shows a lack of knowledge. It is possible to get enough oxygen through the nose. Breathing through the mouth will add additional stress to the body which has to be taken into consideration. Exhaling faster than inhaling is also inefficient as the oxygen absorption happens during the exhale phase. A 3 to 1 pattern will lead to hyperventilation that might help under certain circumstances but should not be used for easy aerobic running. 0 stars

The part about diet is okay although it's "only" from the personal experience of the author. On the other hand, these personal insights can often hold as much value as some scientific researches. The human body is a complicated machinery.

I read this back in 2009 and adapted my biomechanics accordingly. I should have consulted with a PT or other provider as I was making changes to my natural running style. Very soon after adjusting my foot strike I suffered a sesamoid stress fracture and unfortunately am still dealing with it and related foot problems now in 2023 (yes, fourteen years later).

After Coach GP gave a presentation to my running club, it was nice to read his book and see things put into action. While a few of the ideas seemed a wee bit dated or different than my training, I appreciated the form and the advice. Will def be referring to this one.
