Two years later I can't imagine living without him.
He's the love of my life, to the absolute bottom of my heart.

A sweet novella, perfect for the holiday season. A fun and quick read, with well-rounded and relatable characters. Humour, drama, family bonding and emotion, this story has a bit of everything.

This is the first book I read by KD Elizabeth, and I'm definitely going to continue with this series. I recommend giving this prequel a try!

I received an ARC copy of this book for my honest review! This book releases on December 13th! This is a prequel to K.D’s book The Season Bright.

This was a great, quick, holiday read! If your looking for something with a little heat, a sweet romance, and even a teeny bit of angst this is the read for you!

I loved both characters and thought that even though the story was short, you were still able to connect with them. There was a little bit of humor in the story, which I also love.

When I finished the story I felt satisfied and didn’t feel like I was left with any questions. It also left me with the desire to read the next book. The writing was so well done that even though the story isn’t long you aren’t left with any questions.

This is a quick, cute holiday read about Maxime and Laure. They have been dating for a few years and he wants to propose to Laure. He has himself so freaked about it that it is affecting his relationship (sex life) with her. She thinks he is going to break up with her--the dreaded miscommunication. Thank goodness for a snowstorm and Laure's mother to help with their communication. Maxime's best friend, Ethan, is in this story, and I am definitely interested in his story in book one of this series.

4.5 Stars for The Christmas Cadeau ( The Bright Series 0.5)
This Christmas Novella is the first book I have read by this author but it certainly won’t be the last because this quick beautifully written love story stole a piece of my heart.
Miss communication has Laure believing Max is about to break up with her when in fact that couldn’t be further from the truth, Max is trying to plan an epic proposal. Thankfully a snowstorm rolls in and Laure’s mother decides to intervene and help with the communication issues ........
This is a quick holiday read that is also the perfect introduction to The Bright Series. If you love holiday romances that have the perfect mix of love and drama this is the book for you, it has adorable characters, it’s a story about love, communication and family, it’s emotional and I’m sure like me Max and Laure will steal a piece of your heart. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

4 Star review of The Christmas Cadeau (The Bright Series 0.5) by K D Elizabeth
K.D. Elizabeth is a new author to me and although this is my first read from this author it will not be my last. This was a quick Christmas novella that ticked a lot of boxes for me; well written, it was a romantic love story.
Despite believing that Max is her soulmate, Laure is convinced that he is about to break up with her and just before Christmas which is even worse.
Unbeknownst to Laure, Max is jittery as he is trying to formulate the perfect proposal for the woman he is head over heels in love with. Will miss communication destroy their relationship or will true love win out in the end?
This was a quick read with characters whose story you quickly become invested in, add in it’s centred around my favourite holiday of the year and I as hooked.
Looking forward to reading more in the series as soon as possible.

Thanks to the author for providing me with a copy.

3.5 stars

“You are my princesse, Laure. And my castle. And my kingdom. You are everything I could want in a partner, everything I never had as a child. You are loving and kind and selfless. You give all of yourself to those you love, and you do it with such joy, such happiness.”

I love the name chosen for the book. The mix of English and French, so catchy. Also, there are some French words in this book(love it!). The story of how Laure and Maxime met is pretty funny. This book also shows the importance of communication in a relationship and the value of family.

This book is only 6 chapters long plus the epilogue. You'll read it in one sitting. It’s the perfect quick and adorable holiday story. Simple, lovely, and also steamy. They can't get their hands off each other, especially Laure whose love language is physical interaction.😂😉

If you want to take a break from books that are like 300 pages long then this is the perfect read for you, it'll leave you smiling. I really loved Laure and Maxime's relationships, you can see how in love they are with each other. They're so sweet. Laure’s family is the sweetest, her siblings are so funny.
I loved the ending, pretty hilarious and adorable. I highly recommend everyone to read this book, you'll love it.

PS: It's available on kindle unlimited so go read it, I'm sure you'll like it and you can finish it in less than 2 hours.😇💜

Thank you to the author, K.D. Elizabeth, for sending me a free copy of this fun holiday novella in exchange for an honest review.
3.5/5 stars.
This was a quick and kinda cute little Christmas story! I wish there was more to it because the characters seem like fun, and I'd love to have more of them. Maxime is worried about proposing to his girlfriend Laure, and he begins to pull away from her which makes Laure think that he's going to break up with her right before Christmas.
Unfortunately for our characters the weather intervenes before they can talk to each other, and there's a bad snowstorm that creates a couple of problems. Luckily, these issues are resolved quickly and neatly for the characters without much hassle.
It was a fun and cute holiday read with a little bit of steam added in for good measure. If you're looking for a short Christmas-themed read, I'd recommend trying this one out!

That's my first time reading a Christmas themed book and it turned out to be a really good experience to start to. It's a quickly and easy reading and I wish we could see more about Max and Laure. It was good to see a male character struggling with insecurities (especially after so many books with male character not showing up anything about their feelings) so yes, Max, I'm here for you. Glad they managed to solve their misscommunication problems before the relationship ended for good. The entire snowstorm scene was crazy for me (Where I live there's literally 0% of chance to be cold enough for snow so I'm definitely not used to it) and the final Christmas scene is great.

The story jumps right into Max and Laure's story. They have been together a few years and now are at a precipice. There is so much more to them then what we are given, but this nibble of story is enough to whet my appetite to hear more about them. The "miscommunication" jumps pretty fast. I don't know that 2 people who seemingly have no real issues would have this kind of major bump without ANYONE saying anything, but then again....we need to know them more. This is a great prequel to bring us into the series and I can't wait to read more.

Cute

This was a cute, brief story about a guy so wrapped up in his head, he almost messes up everything.
This is a prequel to The Season Bright, so it's a very short, quick read.

This Christmas themed novella has a little bit of everything...the perfect holiday escape.this was my first exposure to this author, and I'm glad I took the chance. The characters, Maxime & Laure, are given a delightingly appropriate level of development. The reader understands their connection, tension, angst, emotional turmoil, and family issues involved. Getting swept into their story is easy, making it to the end quickly enough, that's more difficult.

Maxime (Max) and Laure have been dating for almost 2 years. He is planning the perfect marriage proposal to happen in front of her family. This scares the jeepers out of him. Because of his nerves, and feeling inadequate, he has withdrawn from Laure. She, in turn fears he is planning to break up with him.

On the night of a blizzard, she realizes she forgot the cookie cutters and heads out to get them. Not returning to her mom's home, her mother calls Max. During the call, she asks if he is going to break up with Laure. NO!! Now he is frantic to find her and ends up in an accident.

He makes it to their apartment, but is nearly frozen. Laure is there and works to warm him up. With him back to health, they slip into a heated discussion of the issues of not only the look at night, but the past month.realizing he hurt her, Max gets the ring and proposes without her family - thinking it will be a let down for her. On the contrary, she is thrilled, and relieved.

When the Christmas festival roles around, Laure and her family have a suprise of their own. Will Max not only get the woman of his dreams, but a family that he loves dearly too? Or is that simply to much of a Christmas miracle to hope for.

Continuing on my holiday reading journey with another amazing read., this one is a 6 chapter novella and is the introduction to K.D. Elizabeth’s ‘The Bright Series’.

The Christmas Cadeau hit all those spots for me with it’s emphasis on the importance of family through Laure’s holiday experiences. Laure is the main female character and she does every big event with her family because they’re all so close to one another. Max is her boyfriend and really hasn’t had much family so it sometimes overwhelms him but he loves it all the same.

Max and Laure are two incredibly real characters that are navigating legitimate relationship issues. I’m usually not a fan of such short books because it can be incredibly difficult to condense feelings, emotions and the writing of that into such a small window. However, K.D. did so well focusing on a very specific situation that everything involved got all the attention it deserved to make it feel fulfilling in a way that novellas can really struggle with.

“Christ, I could have lost her. How that puts things in perspective. Both of us could have died last night. By some miracle, we didn’t. I’m not going to waste any more time trying to make our relationship perfect. I’m just going to live it.”

The Christmas Cadeau, K.D. Elizabeth
Each character shows their flaws and finds ways to address them whether through self-reflection or by having it out with the person they are upset with. This is the epitome of relationships and what drives romance novels to be inspirational and motivating – or not. K.D. keeps this story real and uses characters that have real struggles.

I loved this one and I’m looking forward to reading the next one in this series!

Although I love this time of year, I don’t find myself reading too many Christmas themed books. I was pleasantly surprised with The Christmas Cadeau. It does take place around Christmas but I enjoyed the fact that it didn’t go overboard with the theme.

I really enjoyed the explanation of how Maxime & Laure met, it made even me cringe a little with embarrassment but I thought is was so cute! I like how we got a little background of Maxime’s family, or rather lack of family. It helps us understand why it was so important to him that his proposal to Laure included her family. This book had just the right amount of drama, angst, and passion I enjoy in a good romance!

“I’m not going to waste anymore time trying to my our relationship perfect. I’m just going to live it.”

My favorite quote from this book, even more so than Maxime’s proposal. Life is too short to try to live up to everyone else’s expectations of perfect because anything can happen at any given moment. Don’t wait for when you think is the best opportunity for anyone else especially when it comes to love, just go for it! Otherwise you might be sending the wrong signals.

Maxime has been in love with Laure from the first fated meeting in the men's bathroom 5 minutes before a big meeting. That meeting ended with Laure terribly embarrassed for getting caught in the men's facilities and Maxime caught with his "member" in hand. The couple went on a date within the week and moved in together 4 months later. Fast forward to where the book begins, Max is now killing himself with the what-if's as he prepares to propose to Laure. The fear that she could say no has left his anxiety at an all time high and his libido in the garbage. After a month of him being distant and only giving cryptic responses when she asked what is troubling him, she begins to think he is going to end things. Thanks to the worst snow storm of the year and a meddling mother, the couple is forced in to what could only be seen as a "life and death" situation. I thoroughly enjoyed this short story and wouldn't have minded it being longer to follow the couple. Both characters were likeable in their own right. The story seemed realistic and not "to good to be true" like some romance novels. There were a few steamy moments and there was a delightful HEA.

This Christmas novella was a quick, loving story about 2 people who are preparing themselves for something big in their relationship, albeit 2 because of lack of communication they’re planning for 2 very different things.

Max loves Laure dearly, and is planning the most epic proposal. However because he is so shy and introverted, he has Laure thinking he is planning to break up with her. He’s trying so hard to plan the perfect proposal that he has Laure on edge because he’s acting so different towards her. Laure loves Max dearly, and doesn’t want to lose him. But he’s been so distant lately she is sure he’s planning to break up with her. One snowy night forces Max and Laure to talk about what’s going on, and make a decision that will change both of their lives!

Such a great story, there was some angst, and loving and I enjoyed every bit of it. I love how Max and Laure are completely different. She’s outgoing while he is the definition of introverted. They work so well together, and this was the perfect story for them! I’m excited to learn more about Ethan in the next book!

“The Christmas Cadeau”—K.D. Elizabeth [4 stars ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️] This was a quick, fun holiday read and I definitely recommend 👍🏼 This book jumps right into the story of Max and Laure and how they were pretty much soulmates from the moment they met. The story of how they met was absolutely hysterical and a little embarrassing but also super cute at the same time. Max is under a lot of pressure and he wants to propose to Laure in an extravagant way in front of her whole family at their Christmas celebration, but his nerves are also causing him to send mixed signals to Laure. She doesn’t understand why he’s been acting so off the past month and she has a terrible feeling that Max is going to break up with her right before Christmas. Will this miscommunication hinder their relationship or will this be the best Christmas gift for Laure? Read to find out 😍💕

This was a great quick and cute holiday themed book! I was teetering between a 3.5 and 4 star rating.

I enjoyed how it took place in Canada and incorporated some French Canadian Christmas culture and French words! It was helpful to have a quick translation guide at the start of the book (and cadeau means gift!).

I enjoyed how the story is told from dual points of view because you were able to know what the two main characters were thinking and what their emotions were! There were plenty of funny moments weaved into this steamy storyline. But really, expect some steam (a little much for me at times, but everyone is different!).

We also are introduced to Ethan who I’m excited to read more about in the next book!

Overall, a great read and a wonderful way to become acclimated to this author and these fun characters she has created! I will definitely be reading the next book!

Thank you to the author for my gifted copy in exchange for an honest review.

Maxime and Laure met in the most unconventional of places: a men's bathroom. But their relationship has progressed pretty conventionally since then. That is, until this Christmas. Laure knows Maxime is going to break up with her; he's been acting so weird. She just needs him to hold off so she can make it through Christmas with her family. But is that really Maxime's intentions? A terrible snow storm forces everything out into the open between the two.

This felt like a steamy version of a Hallmark movie. I read it in about the same amount of time it would take to watch one! The reader is immediately thrust into Maxime & Laure's relationship, and, through a dual narrative, the irony of the situation reveals itself. The snow storm adds another level of tension to this Christmas story. I enjoyed this, and I'm curious to see how the rest of the series will go. If you are looking for a quick Christmas read you can devour in two hours or less, check this one out!

If you are looking for a sweet happily ever after Christmas romance…
Stop! Stop whatever you are doing,
You HAVE to read The Christmas Cadeau. This is the perfect kind of book to curl up with for a few hours on a cold night with a hot drink and sit by the Christmas tree. Maxime and Laure are adorable and their Meet Cute is so funny! Oh my god I’m still giggling. KD Elizabeth really packed a lot into this novella, while you get the back story, as a reader you are kinds thrown in halfway through the story. Which for me was great, it made it quick read and especially during the holidays I don’t have a ton of free time to devote to a long book, but I still want a full story. The Christmas Cadeau provided exactly that. Trust me, you will not feel lost, their story is full and well rounded. Like a Hallmark Movie, short, sweet, sexy and a whole lot of angst and love!

This novella is a very lovely introduction to the Bright series. It may be a short story, but you instantly care for our main characters, Maxime and Laure, and are rooting for their relationship. I loved that the characters spoke so much Quebec French since the story is based there and is part of their heritage. I also really enjoyed that there were so many moments of levity both with Maxime and Ethan and Laure with her mother. I loved reading about the moment when Laure and Maxime met. That scene had me rolling and had a case of second hand embarrassment all in one.

A fun, quick, steamy read which definitely sets the mood for the Holidays (My God! All those cookies!!). It has the right amount of angst and romance. The ending was so sweet. I'm looking forward to start the next book in the series and based on the teaser we got in the phone call between Maxime and Ethan, it's going to be fun.

Quick holiday read to introduce you to some characters! Laure and Max are desperately in love, but she is so paranoid after Max starts acting weird that she thinks he is breaking up with her! The real reason behind Max’s strange behavior is that he is actually planning to propose but has no idea how. Within the misunderstanding, they end up separated during a terrible winter storm and when Max hears from Laure’s mother that she’s missing, he goes crazy searching for her and ends up in a bad car accident. Thankfully, he is able to make it home even though his car is totaled and it’s there that he finds Laure and they hash everything out. Great quick read and introduction to this author for me – I’m excited to continue this series and see where it takes us!

"The Christmas Cadeau" by K. D. Elizabeth was truly a great book. The characters and plot of it all were so sweet and heartwarming, perfect for the holiday season to be honest. Though I found the first two chapters confusing, once I realized that this was only the prequel to the "Bright Series" and continued reading it all made more sense. I love the relationship between the two characters and how the couple met was one of the best parts in my opinion. This book was heartwarming, funny, sweet, and steamy. Overall the book was an amazing read except for the confusion at the beginning so it's a 4⃣.5⃣/5⃣ from me. I cannot wait to see what comes next!

This is my first time reading a Christmas book and I like it! It's so cute and I'm feeling all the festivities! ☃️

This book is about a guy Maxime who wants to propose to his girlfriend Laure during Christmas or as the French calls it; 𝘓𝘦 𝘙é𝘷𝘦𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘯.

However, Max got so worked up that he doesn't realize he's pushing Laure away & they both end up in a close call situation! 😱

Hence the proposal happened before 𝘓𝘦 𝘙é𝘷𝘦𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘯 & it was uber adorable!

I learnt some French terms too!

I know it's a little too early to say 𝘑𝘰𝘺𝘦𝘶𝘹 𝘕𝘰ë𝘭 but I just had to! Hehe! Laure sure got a great 𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘢𝘶 for Christmas. I hope you'll all get whatever you wish for during Christmas too, just like Max+ Laure ❤️

The Christmas Cadeau is a sweet, short novella! It’s the prequel to The Season Bright.

Maxime has plans to propose to his girlfriend at her family’s Christmas party. Unfortunately he’s been stressing about it being the perfect moment that Laure thinks he is pulling away and fears that he is going to break up with her right before Christmas.

This was a short story but I still really enjoyed it. I love the friendship and banter between Maxime and his friend, Ethan. It makes me really excited to read The Season Bright. I do wish this was a little longer so we could be with Maxime and Laure more but it was still a fun read.

This is my first time reading a K.D. Elizabeth book and I have to say I fell in love! I’m not in the Christmas spirit, but this book will get you going. I love how she used French into they story. It makes this feel more real then just any other book! Meeting Maxime, Laure, and Ethan was great. Their story made me feel like I was there experiencing everything from the relationship between Maxime and Laure to the friendship between Maxime and Ethan. Communication is key in every relationship even though Laure ruined the plans of Maxime’s proposal to her. Lol And I am intrigued to know more about Ethan’s trip to visit his mom for the holidays in Vermont!
