One big cyborg cowboy. One tiny human female. One impossible attraction.
When Jo's partner abandons her as soon as they arrive on Mars, it's yet another reminder of what she has always known: the only person she can count on is herself. But she is determined not to let his absence prevent her from claiming the one thing she has always wanted -- a permanent home. Earth Government is offering land to anyone who can work a claim for five years and she isn't going to let loneliness, global dust storms, or a mysterious, attractive cyborg stop her.
C-487 no longer feels human emotions. They have been left behind in the pain of his transformation and the long, lonely years working to make Mars suitable for human settlement. The majority of that work completed, there is little left for him now except making sure that these foolish humans don't kill themselves or each other. Until he sees her -- a tiny, determined female who makes his long-forgotten heart beat faster.
Can a woman who is afraid to trust and a cyborg who has forgotten how to love find their dreams together?
Each book in the Cyborgs on Mars series can be enjoyed as a standalone romance. This sweet and steamy second chance romance is intended for mature readers.
I admit, I purchased this novella for the cover and the title. I was not disappointed. The cyborg sheriff is everything a reader could ask for in a romantic cowboy hero, with all the best bits of the protective cyborg. And he's named Clint. The heroine is determined, courageous, and a bit foolhardy, but avoids the TSTL trap. The world building around the tech for a nascent Mars colony is creative and takes only a few (acceptable) liberties with the science of the matter. I would have liked a bit more character development and back story on both MCs, but overall, well done given it's only 56 pages.
This is a really interesting mashup of sci-fi romance and historical Western romance. It is set on Mars when people are starting to colonize it.
This novella is short and sweet, so it doesn't have a lot of depth. But the characters are nice and the world is really interesting. I'm looking forward to continuing the series.
Quick world-building that made "sense" Decent plot Likeable characters Steamy goodness
Plot --- 3/5 Writing Style --- 3.5/5 Main Characters --- 3.5/5 Supporting Cast --- 3/5 Steam Level* --- 3.5/5 Violence --- nothing notable or of the domestic variety Triggers --- none Language --- some POV --- Dual
*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all
A western on mars with a cowboy who is a cyborg. A cute western style romance. The story is basic with the interest coming from the unusual environment. If you like western romances you will probably enjoy this book.
The cover is what grabbed me when I was scrolling about on Amazon. Then I looked a little closer and saw it was a cyborg romance on Mars. Welp, I just had to read it! For a super short read, it is a great story I could visualize really easily in my mind. I liked the whole Mars thing. The human name for C-487 added the humanity layer to the story rather than you are getting it on with C-3PO. Honey managed to throw in all the elements needed for a great story in a very short story.
I love this series, and this book. Humans are homesteading on Mars after leaving a dying Earth. Cyborgs serve as rangers of the Martian towns and territory. Hot, sexy heroes and the world-building is fantastic! I really felt like I'd been transported to Mars!
I really enjoyed this book !! It is kind of 1 part Western , 1 part sci-fi , and three parts Awesome !!! In this story we meet a man that is part machine. His name is Clint , but his CYBORG name is C- 487. He was in the military and after he was hurt , the government decided what parts of him could be kept , and which parts would be enhanced and changed. His assignment in the Mars project has him transforming the planet into something that humans could actually live and survive on. After ten years , Homesteading is finally allowed. C- 487 , and others like him , are put in place as the Police would be on Earth.
Jo , has come to Mars , full of hope . Hope for a better future then the one back home on Earth. Her and her friend from the orphanage where they both grew up have come. But Nick doesn't really feel like farming a plot and putting in an honest days work. So , he leaves Jo all alone . On a strange planet . To fend for herself. So Not how she pictured things going !!
Once Jo catches the eye of a certain CYBORG peace keeper , things will be very different then she thought that they would be !! Reading about their journey , makes me want to read the next in this series !!!
Okay, guys. OKAY. Things I enjoy in the books I pick up...Cyborgs! Different planets! Characters who are supposed to be emotionless/too deeply damaged to feel but who feel VERY deeply! (In other words, I'm so into the cyborg invasion, man. So into it.) Relationships blossoming in unexpected places!
GUESS WHAT? This book has all those things! Plus, plus plus plus, it has a futuristic old west vibe that I'm digging right now. Yessssss.
To make a long story short, a woman who makes terrible relationship choices and is abandoned by the guy she signed up with the work a claim on Mars meets a seemingly stoic, emotionless cyborg who is anything but and SPARKS FLY. Well, they fly slowly, but these two get there eventually.
Their biggest hurdle is that Jo wants to prove to herself that she can make it on her own, so he fights her attraction to her cyborg until she just can't anymore. *heart eyes*
Yep, I'm digging cyborgs who have hearts of gold buried under their muscles and metal.
This was a short / sweet romance. Cyborgs are humans that have more cybernetics and biologic organs. They've terra formed Mars and now the planet is ready for humans to continue the process. Jo is a homesteader that's been abandoned by her friend and partner. That's OK though, she's caught the eye of one of the cyborgs who police the colonists. Clint, now known as C-487 has forgotten humans felling until he sees Jo and realizes he still has a heart. He helps Jo set up her homestead and they become close. I thought it was a good start to a new series. I like cyborg books so I'll read the first full length book, , when it's released in January.
The cover and the title was all I needed before deciding to read this delightful short novel. Cyborg romance reads are top of my favourites. All the better than human beings whose psyche overtakes their metal parts. Lucky human partners. A very good kick-off to the series 'Cyborbs on Mars', fingers crossed.
Cheers
Afterthought. Was out shovelling snow when I remembered this passage which gave my heart a little twist...''My Josephine. She likes to name things. My horse, her chickens. And me. She calls me by my name. He hesitated, the words unexpectedly difficult. It is Clint. M-231 stared at him, but just as Clint was about to give up on a response, he answered. Morgan. My name was Morgan.''
This is about Jo who moves to Mars so she can get her own little part of land to work on. Clint is a cyborg living on Mars operating as the law. When he meets Jo he is directly attracted to her and human feelings start to surface that he thought he lost after becoming a cyborg.
This was so freakin cute and awesome. I love both characters and the story was great. I am so much looking forward to all the other books, since this was only a very short prequel to the actual series.
I like Honey Phillips books a lot and I am eager to read much more of her. This is definitely a series I will enjoy reading now.
Cyborgs! I love cyborg stories. This a short story, though I would really love to read more about Jo and C-487. It’s an interesting world. The cyborgs have been ill-used, they almost always work alone. It’s very lonely. New settlers work under very rough conditions for the opportunity to own their claim. It’s a harsh world; one I want to explore in more detail. After all, it took many cyborgs to terraform Mars to be ‘livable,’ and many settlers to bring it all to life! 😁 More, please, Ms. Phillips!
I enjoyed this story from Honey Phillips. Cyborgs on Mars and the women who fall in love with them. The Cyborg and Heroine( Clint & No ) were likeable characters and I'm glad the story just flowed. Heat level 🔥1\2 stars. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys sci-fi romance, cowboys or sexy lawmen!! 😉
first off, I adore spaghetti westerns so the title alone had me excited. Toss in cyborgs and you can't go wrong. And this book was cute. Not stellar, not earth-shattering, but a good and cute read. I definitely see myself working through the entire series.
What an incredible introduction to a new cyborg series. I certainly enjoyed this book, the writing and the two main characters. I am really looking forward to the next book in this series.
This book made me stop three paragraphs from the end to google how long it takes from ejaculation to fertilization and I promise you, even if he’s a cyborg, it’s not one hour.
3,5✨️ The story is prequel novella, and it gives us all the basic information for the settlement in Mars. There are some drama, spice, and sci-fi tidbits, too.
This was a quick read, and it gave the base line of the series.
I did enjoy it but would not say wow that was now a great Cyborg Romance,,, But But But at the same time it got me in to the Series that i will definitely be reading, so Miss Honey Phillips a great Starter to the Series to get me hooked and wanting to start with Book 1.
UPDATE: I just finished the audio version of THE OUTLAW CYBORG, #2 in the trilogy of bks 1-3, currently available Free to Members through Audible. The six voice artists performed the parts wonderfully (Eve Leonard, Rock Engle, Brooke Hayden, Ryan West, MacKenzie Cartwright, Aiden Snow). I still enjoyed this story as a very sweet and suspenseful, somewhat quirky and rather steamy version of the “Wild, Wild, West” meets Mars. (I adored the 1960’s “Wild, Wild, West” tv program as a kid, starring Robert Conrad and Ross Martin. CYBORG’S ON MARS reminds me of that program with added steam and a Mars setting). Also noted, the Cyborg on Mars series continues beyond the original 3 books, with bk #7 being released presently. I read this series as a light Escape read. Not recommended to readers who prefer Clean or “deep” fiction. ;D
ORIGINAL POST: 4.5 Stars. (1= dnf/What was that?; 2= Nope, not for me; 3= Between Ok & pretty gd; 4= I liked it a lot; 5= A favorite, it was great!)
I loved the Sweet (& a bit-Sexy) HEA novella HIGH PLAINS CYBORG by Honey Phillips. Although this was my first book by Phillips, I’ve always enjoyed old westerns and Classic/quirky Sci-fi literature and programs (Zorro, Bonanza, Wild Wild West, Clint Eastwood Westerns, Original Star Trek, Lost in Space, Zane Grey novels, etc). The combination of HIGH PLAINS CYBORG’S great cover (which is perfect match for the story), clever title, and blurb grabbed my attention and I clicked “Buy.” I was not disappointed.
HIGH PLAINS CYBORG was a quick, easy reading (just over an hour) standalone prequel to the CYBORG ON MARS 6 book series. HIGH PLAINS CYBORG had a light, sweet tone with a FMC daring to dream of a better future, willing to leave everything behind and to work hard to accomplish those dreams. The MMC/C-487 was (a favorite of mine) an overlooked, undervalued man of great potential, heart, mind, and integrity. HPC hit all the right boxes for me (although I personally don’t need all the intimate sexy details). I added the next book in the series (The Good, The Bad, and the Cyborg) into my tbrs; Clint (C-487)/MMC has a cyborg friend, M-231, also willing to dream of a better life. I would like to see him get it. And I enjoy the Clint Eastwood influenced titles. 😉
READER CAUTIONS - VIOLENCE - No. *PROFANITY - Yes. Strong language used perhaps 5x. *INTIMACY - Yes. On-scene sexual intimacy does occur briefly although IMO the story’s intent is more Sweet than Sexy in nature.
* Due to the aforementioned, young readers and those who would be offended should consider looking elsewhere.
This was such a short, quick, fun read but I loved it! It was interesting to see how much the cyborgs contributed to society and yet, their rights are incredibly restricted. Speaking of, Clint was such a neat character! Him and Jo were perfection together! The spice was definitely on the lighter end of things, but overall this novella sets the world up nicely for the books to follow!
Aww this was a great little prequel short story to start this series. One thing I loved was for being such a short story it wasn't an instalove one. Now I just need to find my own cowboy cyborg with vibrating bits lol!! I can't wait for the first book in the series to come out.
