Good overview of issues to consider, mainly focused on cats and dogs. This book doesn't pretend to be a complete instruction book, but rather a guide to help parents figure out where they need to do more work. It is laid out like a textbook. Each chapter ends with a bulleted list of important points and a to-do checklist. The early chapters are organized around the stages of decision making (what to do if you already have a pet and are expecting a baby, what to do if you already have kids and you are thinking of a pet, what to do after the pet arrives), but the later ones are more thematic (training, health, etc.). The result is a little repetition (readers are told twice about the value of fences and the options available--though oddly allergies do not show up in the planning chapters, only in the chapter on health).

Great book !

Especially for the new pet parent or future parents out there. I would recommend this book to many of my clients !
