ISSUES: The Opposite of Everything I Was Taught

Rate this book
“You set to defy me at every turn!” – My father to me, somewhere between 1973 – 1988 (and probably every day in his head). “OK, Boomer!” – Me, to my father.I just learned that term last week and have been watching everyone lose their shit over it. Why? It’s an age-old recurring idea, only with a catch phrase. This book is about issues - not just parent/child dynamics, or intergenerational differences, but issues between all people. I see so many of my peers struggle with a dissatisfaction with life. If they did everything the way they were supposed to, why aren’t they happy now? Figuring out who I was and what I thought made all the difference for me. I know what I believe, and I know I’m not alone in how I think. Neither are you. That’s what I’m here to share with you. I learned that even if my life isn’t perfect, and even if I’m always looking at myself as a work-in-progress, I can always find satisfaction and happiness in knowing that I have a lot more choice. When things are down, I can still find good in myself, in people, and the world. When I allow that for myself, I can extend it to others without judgment.

I love this book. I had the incredible opportunity to meet the author and spend some quality time with her while she was working on it. Her quick wit, honest reflections, and willingness to be open are shockingly refreshing. Sue writes with an incredible sense of humor and ease that keeps the reader entertained and wanting more. I highly recommend this for those looking to be entertained and also a have to think a little.

Everyone has issues and this is most true for the author of this self-help style book. Roulusonis’s voice is witty and knowledgeable. She never talks down to the reader and it would make awesome standup! I throughly enjoyed the chapter on “Labels” because the author makes us rethink the labels that we place on ourselves and others. “Labels aren’t good or bad, they are good and bad—it’s all in what we do with them.” (Pg. 41) I especially like the note about the author’s child who needs a label in order to be accepted and find belonging. That was truly lovely and from the heart. The reader will definitely learn something about themselves. I found myself answering and questioning my own views. Don’t let your Issues stop you from picking up this book today!🔥
