For generations the Kingdom of Trimera has stood as a barrier against the grinlo, a horde of monsters that hunt magic and seek to consume all of Reia. But Trimera is falling.
The Kingdom of Trimera is under attack. For all of recorded history, the monstrous grinlo have unsuccessfully fought to expand their hunting territory into the lands of Reia. But a magical being has managed to gain control of them, and the usually simple-minded grinlo exhibit cunning well beyond their capabilities, transforming them into a formidable foe.
Pria was born to be one of the most powerful leaders in Reia. Enlisted in the Lorien, she has studied magic for ten years before being given the most dangerous and important post in the land: her home of Trimera. As a high priestess, it is her sacred duty to protect all the peoples of Reia from the monsters of the Frontier—and to determine who is controlling the grinlo.
Yet her position is far from secure. Despite her potential and strength, there are many who do not agree with her placement in Trimera—but with the grinlo encroaching on her homeland, Pria hopes to show them all what she is made of. The hope of Trimera, and all of Reia, lies in the hands of Pria.
Hunted by a mysterious foe and scrutinized by the Lorien, will Pria be able to protect her family and home…or will the distraction of her loved ones in danger lead her down the road of disaster?
"I received this book as an ARC & I'm giving an honest review."
Reading this wonderful Fantasy novel is the only thing that kept me excited. I decided to read this book because I really liked the blurb of the book. A girl who is the wielder of powerful magic, fighting for her home, family and everything she hold dear to her. Throw in a mix of a diabolical villain and a couple of disgusting looking pawns, and viola! You've gotten yourself a story which you will enjoy a lot!
The cover of the book is vibrant and beautiful. The title is simple and does absolute justice to the novel. I loved the way the novel was penned down. The author has managed to bring all her words to life. The world building was flawless and real. I couldn't help but imagine myself in the very place this book was set - The Mystic Land of Trimera.
The book seems to have a lull and from the very beginning, I was completely into the story. The plot was beautiful and the story line was really addictive and real. Everything had a perfect flow and the book was full of suspense and magic.
The characters were beautifully penned and well crafted. They seemed real. I loved the fact that this book fostered a strong female lead. The book also gets brownie points for refuting characters who are so likeable that I wished I knew some of them in real life.
Other than that, the climax of the book leaves the reader craving for more. If I am being really honest, I can't get enough of Tanya S.M. Kennedy and that's probably the reason why I'm more than excited to start reading more of her works!
I would recommend this book for EVERY. SINGLE. FANTASY. BUFF.
Ps. This is another book I wouldn't mind being made into (not a movie)but a Web series! (Fingers crossed)
The Battle For Trimera is the first book in The Ruling Priestess series written by the author Tanya S. M. Kennedy. This is a story involving fascinating creatures grinlo. They are the strange creatures with low intelligence but incredible strength. A man named Neram had taken control of a grinlo.
Story started with Pria's parents death. Her brother Janu who is fourteen years old is a heir and Pria was declared High Priestess (a person of great magical talent born to rule) when she was born. Janu's friend Mian is always there for Pria. He could even die for her if he has to. High Priestess Lana is stressing so Pria could be sent to Lorien to learn her power. Follow the story as Pria go to Lorien for the training. Also, the romance between Mian and Pria made the story more intense.
Pria is a strong female character. If you are interested in reading fantasy stories involving battles then go ahead with this one without thinking twice. Cover photo of the book is so eye catchy that it deserves +1 for it. Story is quite lengthy so it took time to finish but it is totally worth. I really enjoyed the world building. A promising story for fantasy readers.
From the first word to the end, The Battle For Trimera kept me rapt. Then it pissed me off.
The good: wonderfully written fantasy action/adventure; good pacing, neither unrolling too quickly nor too slowly; believable character development, with enough trauma to leave wounds and enough strength to grow and learn from them; strong women, and strong men who are realistically slow on the uptake to trust the woman in charge knows what she's doing.
The bad: if you live anywhere on planet Earth you likely heard an explosive primal scream when I got to the end - or, more accurately, the stoppage, because the story didn't actually end, as much as it just stopped abruptly and squealed into a 90 degree skid toward a set up for a sequel. As much as I loved the book up to stoppage, I would not have picked it up if I had known it had a cliff hanger. Or maybe I would have, but I wouldn't feel quite so misled if the author had been (1) up front that it wasn't a stand alone novel, and (2) given any assurance that the teased sequel might actually be forthcoming. For those reasons I gave a three star rating rather than a five.
The author asks you to join the Battle of Trimera and the book pulls you in to do just that. This story is a must read that hooks you immediately and keeps you with the main characters every step of the way. They fight to protect not only each other but all of the kingdom that is being attacked by vicious blood thirsty creatures that are coming in droves to overrun the kingdom. Each of the characters are forced to make sacrifices as they learn what role they are destined to play. The author does a great job of keeping you guessing and wanting more. I cannot wait for the next book!
Our book club ordered this one and most of us really enjoyed it - having a hard time keeping from discussing the book before the appointed date. We’re a group that enjoys fantasy (Shadow in the Ember was another group favorite). The Battle for Trimera features a couple of our favorite characters, and is written in a way that has us begging for the sequel.
(review request submitted by the author for an honest critique)
At almost 600 pages, The Battle of Trimera is not only a beast in size, but the story is busting out the seams with blood-thirsty creatures. The grinlo are vicious beasts with sharp, black claws. Many men, women, and children have encountered them, yet survivors are few and far between. Ortid, one lone survivor, witnessed their wickedness firsthand. He stumbled up a very gruesome, gory, unforgettable, and stomach-turning scene. The grinlo’s leader, Neram, might be a man, but he was a monster just the same.
As you are well aware, you can’t have a villain without a hero or heroes. There’s a check and balances in life, real or imaginary. In this scenario, multiple individuals band together to defend their land from the grinlo: Prince Janu, Lord Mian, Priestess Lana, Priestess Pria, Jaren, Liando, and various other soldiers.
At three hundred page mark, Priestess Pria’s mind is troubled. She’s on the hunt for the person pulling the strings of the grinlo, and she’s trying to keep Mian at a safe distance. She wants to be seen as an adult, a powerful High Priestess; however, he makes her feel like a child again. Up to this point, if Pria looked closely, she would see he doesn’t –not entirely. His attraction to her is becoming more apparent for all to see.
The sexual tension between Pria and Mian is growing with each page.
The next 150 pages were quite active. There were nasty creatures, big and small, being a pain in the neck (literally and figuratively). Emotions also reached the boiling point, and, instead of throwing barbs at each other, Pria and Main let their true feelings show. No, they didn’t shag, but they had some steamy kisses.
From page 450 until the end, The Battle of Trimera kept the same speed as the pages before it. The pace wasn’t too fast or slow. In actuality, Tanya (the author) balanced everything quite well. Overall, I felt she took ample time to develop characters, their relationship to each other, history, plot, etc. She had death scenes, but they weren’t overly detailed. Sure, they were gross but not horror movie gross (if that makes sense). Basically, what I’m saying, Tanya gave us enough visual stimuli to allow the reader to get the picture but not be overwhelmed.
There were some sections I wanted, craved more embellishment on, but I get why Tanya refrained. As I stated in my opening sentence, The Battle of Trimera was almost 600 pages long.
To sum up, a great book and definitely worth the price tag attached!
