Repeat: A Love Story For The Ages

Rate this book
Paul and Angelina are old friends who dated in college, briefly, years ago, and recently reconnected via email. During their correspondence, they realized that they both regretted not taking up with each other back then, especially given their difficult and tumultuous first marriages after college. When Angelina is killed, she is offered a choice of what to do next and opts to have both of them return to when she and Paul first arrived at college and do it over again ... while remembering what happened to them over the years. They make many changes in the way they live their lives and find true happiness together. Although they don't repeat those mistakes they made before, they definitely find new ones to experience and explore.

An enjoyable time travel romance. Not as well written as "Time and Again", "Replay" or "The Time Traveler's Wife", but still a good story for those, like me, who like this genre.

I’m not one for romance novels but this one had me hooked from the start. I found the premise to be both different and intense. Repeat begins with a man, grieving the loss of not one woman he loves, but two. He thinks about his life, the choices he’s made, and how it brought him to the point he’s at. Then, he gets a chance to do it all again, another shot at love.

It really hooked me when the story takes the main character back to the ‘60’s, to begin his journey for the one thing he wants most of all—love. The cross of paranormal/romance/history was simply the icing on the cake of a fantastic plot. It makes you sit and wonder about your own life and how the choices you make may affect those around you. Better yet, it makes you wonder what you would do if you were given a second chance at your own life.

The name of this book says it all. It really was a unique, timeless love story. Angelina and Paul get a life do over after they both die late in their first lives. They met in their first lives in college but never got together. They both married other people and it wasn't until much later in their first lives that they hooked up again via email. Nothing every happened between them though. Not until they met again in their second lives. This is really an interesting take on a love that lasts through eternity. The book is extremely long though and does kind of get bogged down in some places but it didn't deter me from reading the whole thing. I would highly recommend this read for true romance lovers.

If you could live your life all over again, knowing all that you do now, would you?

This was the choice that was given to Angelina after she died. Not for one moment did she think that her wish would come true, but here she was back in 1966 looking at the love of her life.

Paul was on his way to Hawaii to scatter his wife’s ashes. The day his wife died was the worst day of his life, as he also lost his dear friend Angelina. Life seems pointless now. Paul had fallen asleep on the plane, but when he woke up, everything had changed. He had been given a second chance at life and a second chance at love.

Repeat: A Love Story For The Ages by A.J. Kohler, is a beautifully woven story about true love and second chances. Kohler has such an excellent way with words. The love that Paul and Angelina have for one another comes across well in the writing. Their story is wonderfully romantic. It is the kind of story that I won’t forget in a hurry.

I was utterly enchanted with his book. If you are looking for a great read, then check out Repeat: A Love Story For The Ages. You won’t be disappointed.

I Highly Recommend.

This is a long book, though it doesn’t feel it as you are reading it. It starts off well, with Paul not knowing if he is dead, going mad or has really gone back in time. I was expecting this story to be along the lines of The Butterfly Effect, with the things that they change from the past having unexpected consequences, but it is nothing like that. This story has a lot of depth and gives you things to think about. It covers things I would never have considered, like how does a 65 year old act like a teenager, how should they act around people they know well but have only just met this time around, or how do they stop themselves accidentally mentioning things they shouldn’t yet know, for example. It covers their frustrations at the restrictions they now face, having gone back to being teenagers, and every now and then mentions the things they miss from the future, in a way that fits in well with the story. This is an emotional read and the scenes set in flight school and the war in Vietnam come across as realistic and believable. The letters are a nice touch and work well (you will see what I mean if you read the book).

The premise for Repeat: A Love Story for the Ages is fascinating - which of us doesn't look back on our young adult years and wish that we could do a few things over again? Or, apply the wisdom we've gained over the years to the problems we faced then, when we were so immature? Paul and Angelina's do over wasn't perfect - they still made mistakes even with the benefit of knowing what they knew from their previous time on earth. But their story was captivating, honest, and enjoyable to the end. The adage "some things never change" proves almost prophetic, even though everything is vastly different for Paul and Angelina the second time around. The book really made me think about what I would change about the past if I could - what people I'd avoid getting involved with and who I would seek out and try to get to know better. It also made me wish I had appreciated my youthful assets and advantages when I still had them to enjoy. We take so much for granted! A good, thought-provoking read.

This book somehow managed to be both boring and infuriating, which is quite a feat.

I did not know what to expect from this author or book. I am glad I had taken the plunge. Repeat: A love story for the ages, had me reaching for the tissues. Loved the characters, the storyline and plot. Paul and Angelina had a brief history through college, reunited later in life and remained good friends. Both regretting they were not mature enough to further their relationship back in college avoiding their other decisions later in life.
Fate had other plans, Angelina and Paul found themselves back in college with most of their adult memories wondering how they have gone back in time.
Will the loving couple manage to pave a new future for themselves and grow old together or will they make the same mistakes.
Repeat: A love story for the ages, is about choices. Making the choice which hopefully is the right one. A look through the eyes of a soldier who becomes a pilot. A battered woman rise above and beyond with the love of her life to become a famous author.
A great read. Recommended. Take the time and relax with this great book.

Food for Thought

When reading this book, my thoughts travelled back to the 60's and all the things I should have put right before they got out of hand. If only, I thought as I continued to read. Angelina being sent back to earth and giving another chance at life with the one man she truly loved, Paul - Wow! Imagine Paul's surprise when he wakes up, on a plane, to discover he is no longer an old man, not known at that time it was Angelina's choice that has turned the clock back.
Readers who have wished they could go back in time to be with that one special person, will love this story.
This isn't all about romance; it's also Paul's determination to become a pilot and go back to Vietnam. It's a long story with plenty of details about army life, helicopters, Pilots etc. Spoiler: Tissues ready at the end.
Some parts of the story I found a bit bogged down, but nevertheless, the author has made a great job in keeping the story going forward.

What would you do if you had the chance to do things over again? Basically, this is the main preface of this story line. Paul and Angelina basically get a do-over of their lives and are given the opportunity to make changes. Will they do it? If so, how many changes and what do they change? Since I normally read romance or thriller genre novels that are about half the length of this novel, I hesitated to dive into it, but I'm glad I did. It wasn't a sexy romance or a nail biting thriller, but it was meaningful and touching and managed to hold my attention. It just goes to show that you shouldn't get stuck on one type of read because there are jewels out there under a variety of covers.. this is one of those jewels.

REPEAT is not only a well-written story, but it is a very important story that reveals the benefits of paying attention to how you are living your life! Think about how you are living and the choices you are making. The story was especially interesting to me, because I lived in Denver during those years. I know the Brown Palace and the Buckhorn and Boulder and the old Stapleton and Turkey Creek Canyon. I served less time in the USAF than, later, I wish I had. If I had been successful in getting back in in 1964, no doubt I would have been flying in Vietnam. The writing and the photography interests all rang true for me. My life – this time around – is richer for knowing some of my own past lives. Make your own life richer by conscious choices.

Who says men can’t write love stories? What a wonderful concept and execution this story was. We’ve all wondered what could have been, regretted choices made in the past. In Repeat, the author brings us through what might still be, a return to the main characters’ intrepid youth, allowing him to make different choices in his life. The stories were real, honest, and strong. A truly enjoyable read. Long, but worth it! Since I’m not military-minded, I did feel a bit bogged down with the combat details, but not so much I’d stop reading through. Stacia is a great character and brought the whole ending together.

A second chance of Happiness
This is a captivating love story of Angelina and Paul, who loved each other in college but life kept them apart. When Angelina died in a car accident, she was given a chance for a do-over. She returned back to the Sixties with all her memories to try and make it right this time. Angelina and Paul decided to take the chance they were given and discover how deep was their love for each other. Although they tried not to make the same mistakes, they made new ones. However, their love was stronger and they managed to make the best of the chance they were given. This is a great read that I would highly recommend.

Firstly, I was drawn to this book by it's beautiful book cover and intriguing title.
As soon as it started and it became a time travel story I was hooked.
If we had a chance to go back and live our lives again, only with our memories, would we retain our wisdom that comes with age and experience, or would we fall into some things never change?
Paul and Angelina's story is extremely unique and original and this is a sweeping epic tale worth reading.
It is on the long side but I gave a happy sigh when I finished because it was worth the read.

A tale of two hearts, one love...

This is a beautiful and sweet story about true love. The choices one makes to follow their heart, is sometimes the most difficult, but the reward makes it worth every decision. I truly enjoyed this story from the first page, to the last. Its a well written, fabulous story you will not regret reading.
A perfect romance to curl up by the fire with some hot chocolate.

Beautifully told romance!

I could not stop reading this once I started. The weaving of time is superb, and masterfully handled by the author. The plot is one that hooks you immediately, and I loved the twists as it swept me along.

The characters are also breathtaking. They are realistic, and I truly felt for them as I read their stories.

A truly gorgeous, reflective work I highly recommend to any who is looking for a powerful romance.

Regrets, love and repeat
The title says it all. It's a take on what if we could go back in time and relive parts of our lives. The concept in very interesting. Both painful, full of love and longing, the story grabs your heart and soul. Seeing how the character will choose this time around, opens the door to a second chance. Beautiful read.

Repeat is about Paul and Angelina receiving a second chance. A chance to recreate memories, but also a chance to relive mistakes?...or make new ones. This is an enjoyable read that also gets you thinking about your own life and choices. The author has created a wonderful, unique romance that I highly recommend.

A major tour de force. Doesn't everyone wish they had a do-over, I certainly do. A very well thought out tale of the human condition. Be sure to get a fresh box of tissue. Something is sure to tug at your heartstrings in this one. Well thought out.

A unique and timeless love story

How many of us didn’t wish to be able to start over? Angelina and Paul get that chance. A heart-warming, beautifully written story, relatable and easy to read (despite the number of pages).
A very different second-chance type of story.

This seemed like an interesting concept. Two people miss connections in their first go of life and then as Angelina's life ends, she gets the chance for a second go around. Both of them sent forty years into the past with the majority of their memories and the tag line is right, it is a love story for the ages! I was hooked from the first page and loved every page of the book. It was hard to put it down and did not disappoint, and is an author I will be watching from now on. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a good tear-jerking romance!

REPEAT is a masterpiece wrought of time warp, memory, and the human condition.

First, the story, very briefly: A man and a woman, separately, relive their lives starting fifty-plus years ago when they were teenagers. This is a recounting of what could have happened if they’d made different choices. Paul and Angelina are not just “characters”…they’re real people, to me. Paul is impulsive yet level-headed; loving and kind and empathetic and stubborn, and much more. Angelina is good-natured, intelligent, talented, and intensely loving.

In a nano-second of capricious time, Paul returns to his early college days, when he’d first met the teenaged Angelina, and they are drawn together as bread to a duck, as wings to a bird. And yet they retain their memories of their former lives. These young people with old minds fall in love, in the dreadful time we call the “Vietnam era.” The book traces their decisions, their regrets, their love and their losses over the next fifty years.

This novel is a long one, but so well written it’s hard to put aside once you enter these repeated lives. Author Kohler manages to weave inner dialogue, epistolary narrative, and shifting POVs to unravel a deeply engaging love story.

Sex scenes? None. Exciting action? Very little, outside of the 'chopper cockpit. What this novel offers is a chance to reflect on our own life decisions as we read the story of two introspective and enchanting people who manage to repeat their lives…and replenish their spirit.

This beautifully written love story grabbed my heart and didn't let go! I wish.....I wish......I wish.....I would have had this chance with my male version of Angelina! To be able to go back and relive the love you lost! Awwww.......heartwarming! I find AJ's writing easy to read; he grabs your attention, and moves you through the story gracefully and with purpose. This one was hard to put down. Did I cry? YES! This book...this love story.....this dream really got to my soul. Thanks, AJ, for sharing your story.

What if you had a do over?

A brilliant idea from the mind of this author. Love story told from the man's point of view, and it's powerful. The story we can all relate to, regret of lost love and the chance to live a second lifetime with that one person. Thought provoking.
