About what you'd expect: a general overview of the process of divorce, with a special and repeated emphasis not to be the party to the divorce who adopts a "take no prisoners" attitude. In fact, the author recommends staying out of court if at all possible and using some form of mediation. Much cheaper, much quicker, and probably much less likely to engender any bad feelings between the two splitting.

I might seen my way to giving this one four stars BUT:

͏ They really put the pedal to the metal on shilling for other Nolo books. Really an embarassment to push your other products so hard.

͏ The cover of my edition claimed it "covers your state's laws." (I read the 1996 version, not the latest). It doesn't, beyond giving some links and maybe having a few things to say about California, which is decidely NOT my state.

Hopefully both of the above are fixed in the latest edition. Though I've read no other surveys of divorce to compare ths one to, I'd say this one hits just about every topic of importance, though as a survey doubtless things are a bit simplified for non-lawyers.

You need a state specific divorce book. Ask a few friends who have been through a divorce for the name of a good lawyer.

sadly it didn't offer tips on how to break the news--just a guide on the paperwork. I needed more help with the former.

Explains many facets of the process well
co-owing the home and deferring the sale for example.
