Exercising the Past

Julia Blake Murder Mystery #11

by Gillian Larkin

Julia Blake runs her own cleaning business. She has the unfortunate knack of getting herself involved in police investigations.

Julia's client and friend, Sonia Cuthbert has recently started divorce proceedings. Her husband, Harvey, won't leave her alone and continues to harass her.
Julia and her dad are at Sonia's property when a body is discovered in the garden. The body disappears before the police arrive.
Who was the prowler? And did he have something to do with Harvey Cuthbert? Julia can't help but get herself involved in the mystery. Things take a twist when a local gym owner, Drew Anderson, becomes part of the mystery.

About the author

I'm an avid fan of mystery stories. I started reading Agatha Christie novels at an early age. My favourite fiction detective is Poirot, I love his fussy ways and his attention to small details. I love the TV series, 'Murder She Wrote' and have watched every episode. I like working out who the killer is, and what the clues are.

I live near Leeds, Yorkshire, which is in the north of England. My two daughters live with me and they are understanding about my passion for mystery shows! I've now discovered 'Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries'.

I've been wanting to write my own mystery stories for years - and now I finally have.

Exercising The Past (A Julia Blake Mystery Book 11) by Gillian Larkin is another great who-done-it by the master of short but wonderful mysteries. Again, this story was full of twists, turns, humor, suspense but light-hearted, and a wonderful mystery packed into a small package. Love these books!

Great book

Once again Gillian Larkin brought forth a wonderful story. Julia Blake is a delightful character and her companions are a wonderful addition. As always her books are a joy to read. Looking forward to reading the next one in the series.

Kindle Unlimited, some get that way some freebie sites some her site/email, #2 & #3 by signing up at her website, some have bought other ways and come in different sets/collections, some collections/books are Julia Blake Murder Mysteries, Butterworth Mysteries, Storage Ghost Murder, Ghost Storage Mysteries,Second Hand Ghosts, Ruby and Nessa Ghost Hunters, A Pearl and Derek Mystery, A Ray and Cain Mystery, Cara Daniels, and others others. Every now and then something doesn't make sense, but might be reading out of order or could be difference from story to story, some detail or other. Amazon has different star rating system but have read entire collections of hers and others and no way am going to figure out the difference for that many so just leaving the same amount of stars.

This is book 11 in the series but the first one I've read. I think it can be read as a stand alone without any problems. There were lots of secrets and mysteries to uncover. This story was a good idea and a good read. I read it very quickly.

A great pair of cleaning sleuths

I really enjoy the comfortable relationship between Julia, her parents and her employee Cain. When I read a Gillian Larkin book I feel I am joining friends. The mystery is just intriguing enough.

This one's a bit different from her usual tales. No dead bodies, just a heap of intrigue. Enter a con man and thief (yes, the same person), stumbled upon purely by chance. Julia, true to form, kicks off her investigation, this time joined by her trusty team—Cain, her dad, and mom. The family dynamic working together is a joy to see. Gotta admit, the beginning had a bit of a spooky vibe (especially when your apartment is dark, neighbours are being loud, and mysterious sounds fill the street). But, as always, it's an easy read with plenty of unexpected twists and turns.

I loved it and Gillian outdid herself with this book. It has a lot of suspense and the way Julia is looking into the case is like a detective.

Yes! Julia Blake is back with a new story! It's like having an old, trusted friend visit, and pull you into all sorts of adventures with her. I do enjoy trying to guess the culprit, but I'm not usually very successful.

Funny, easy to read, great story, and very well thought out. Another success from Gillian Larkin.

Is Exercise Really Good For You?!!

Julia Blake and co get involved in another mystery. An enjoyable story involving controlling husbands and a fitness instructor who seems to be too nice!

[Jenn Swanson]

Julia Blake just cannot seem to NOT stumble upon a dead body. This short mystery was interesting and I enjoyed the characters as well. Another murder mystery that I would recommend reading.
