Re-read/listened to the audiobook version Oct'2018:

5 stars Historical/Regency Romance

The audiobook narrator was fabulous, and it's still a big 5-star read for me.

Original Review from Sept'2010:

5+ stars Historical/Regency Romance

Words seem wholly inadequate, my friends. Why are the best books always the hardest to review?! Alas, if only I could have clever Lady Whistledown write this.

Flirtatious, affable, charming, and witty Colin has been my favorite Bridgerton sibling from the beginning,

Though I loved Penelope Featherington, Colin was another story altogether. Before this book I really loved Colin. I couldn't wait for his story. Maybe my expectations were too high. I don't know but I really didn't like Colin most of the time. At times he came off like a big asshole. He was blowing his top every time the wind blew. His temper was just a bit much. One minute he was fine and then he was pissy, cold, and rude. If I was Penelope I would have kicked him in the balls.
Em Lost In Books

My favorite of the Bridgerton boys and this was such a cute story of being in love and believing in that love.
At some point in our lives we all ask some fundamental questions regarding our existence, the great mysteries of the universe, the past, the present and the future of humanity. Mankind is curious (and peculiar) like this; spending hours pondering on notions, dedicating personal effort and money, researching, reading, trying to find a solution to quench the hunger that consumes us. The Author knows this kind of struggle all too well. The last few days have been dedicated to the answer of one

I am certainly not going to marry Penelope Featherington!

Ever since we heard Colin Bridgerton utter, ummm, shout the above statement, we should have known that hes going to eat his words sooner or later.

And eat them he did.

Penelope Featherington. She freshly comes out to society, out to meet the ton, with an excess of a few stones in her weight, and either orange/yellow/red gowns which doesnt do her complexion any good. We cant blame her. Her mother is a tyrant. But Penelope knows she doesnt

★★★★½ I read this when it first came out over ten years ago and remember loving Colin. Though Im a bit of a re-reader, I havent done so. Consequently, I jumped at the chance to join in a buddy read, the forth in this enduring series.

However, on re-read I was really impressed with Penelope. Dont get me wrong: I still had heart palpitations over Colin and his deep green eyes. Nevertheless, I appreciated Penelopes subtle straight-forward

There is a perfect word to describe how I feel about Julia Quinn. Its meh. I dont love her, I dont hate her, I will read her, I will quickly forget her.

Im not sure why that is because she is very popular and other people seem to find her books, and this particular one especially, amazing. But to me they are just too cute. Too sweet. I dont want cute and sweet. Im sure youve gathered that much from my reviews I can tolerate cute and sweet only in really homoeopathic doses.

Book Wonderland

Colin is my favorite Bridgerton since the first book, so I was really excited to read his book, and it was amazing!
I also really love Penelope, she is my favorite heroine in this series, I was happy she finally got the man of her dreams. Their love story was adorable. ❤

Additionaly we finally found out who Lady Whistledown is! (For a long time I had no clue, but in this book I had some suspicions. The author really chose the perfect person to be her, this made the story even better!)
Anyway I'm
Penelope Featherington has been in love with Colin Bridgerton for what seems like forever, from a young girl making her debut in society to a resign spinster. Penelope feelings have only grown throughout the years for Colin. Thinking she knew everything about Colin there was to know, Penelope comes across his hidden secret that starts to change her perspective of him in a surprising way that only draws them closer.

Oh, what a difference the second half of a book can make.

I want to be clear on this: when I was still only halfway through the book, I considered it a keeper. Penelope was wonderful: truly shy around anyone she didn't know well, with a few horribly painful/embarrassing moments in her life that Quinn actually took the time to show. I cringed in sympathy when Penelope came upon Colin just as he was telling his brothers that he wouldn't marry her and Penelope did what she could to preserve her
4.5 Danbury/Penelope stars

I absolutely love this series.
Julia Quinn writes dialogue and wit better than most in this genre.

And upon my 3rd read... I still love Mrs Danbury and I still adore Penelope.

However, with each reading, Colin becomes increasingly unbearable.
I cant think of any other book in which the heroine and a 70+ year old spinster steal the show while the hero is a bit of an insecure reflection of male mediocrity.

And even with this poor choice of gentleman, this book is a gem.

This series gradually works its way through the Bridgerton family, marrying one off in each book. This time it is the turn of Colin who we already know as the funny, charming, good looking one. Everyone loves Colin including Penelope who is a long time friend of the family. It is obvious from the start who is going to marry who but there are plenty of obstacles to overcome first.

I enjoyed the book very much as usual but must admit I struggled a little with its structure. Usually these books
The friends-to-lovers trope is one of my favourites in the genre, and one of my favourite examples of it is Julia Quinns Romancing Mister Bridgerton, the fourth book in her iconic series about the eight Bridgerton siblings.

Colin is the third son, and has featured in the previous books as a good-humoured, devil-may-care sort of chap; easy going with a killer smile, good sense of humour, able to laugh at himself and always ready with a quip or witty rejoinder. Hes all of those things, but by the
BR with Andrea and Lacey. Thanks ladies- I am glad I read it. At least I am not dissing the book from a position of ignorance! It just is not my kind of romance:)

I had never liked the idea of this book, although I have read a few in this series and I seem to remember thinking they were ok. I could not enjoy this one.
The writing was fine. It was both the MCs- they just plain annoyed me.

Colin was self-satisfied but insecure. He whined about having no purpose in his life, while he traveled the

My Review:

What a fabulously fun read! I adored Colin and Penelope and especially Lady Danbury! Revisiting the rest of the Bridgerton family was truly a joy :)
Colin and Penelope make the perfect match and seeing close childhood friends grow into loving, adult soul mates was one of the greatest highlights in my reading adventures this year. I was smiling from the beginning to the end laughing out loud and sighing often.

Penelope Featherington has been overlooked her entire life. Shes been told that shes not pretty enough, too plump, too nervous and too quiet. And yet, Penelope probably has the most personality out of all her heroines in this series. Penelope is hands down my favourite heroine! I love seeing her growth as a character in the previous ones leading up to her own book, Romancing Mr Bridgerton with her long-time crush, Colin.

I wondered how Colin would redeem himself after

Isn't it nice to discover that we're not exactly what we thought we were?

I really enjoyed this one. Loved Penelope and Colin. Thrilled that this feisty little wallflower finally got all she ever dreamed of. I hated that she'd had to feel passed over for most of her life. But sometimes the acceptance of one's ultimate fate, spinsterhood, can be quite a freeing experience. I wasn't sure how the author was going to finally bring these two together, especially after the things that

Oh, this book made me so happy

Anyway, Romancing Mister Bridgerton is Colins book, and I almost couldnt believe who's his lady in this... let your jaws drop fellow readers, for she is the plainest of Janes, wallflower of wallflowers, ugly duckling, the one and only: Miss Penelope Featherington! (MY GOD) And I love her so! Even in the previous books as a minor character - my heart would ache for that poor

Colin is a sweet guy. He is always cheerful, always nice. He doesn't have dark secrets, or a tragic past, not even problems. Oh, wait, he has: he wants to leave something significant in the world. He is a talented writer, but he is too hesitant and shy, and he vacillates to publish his works. Is that really a serious problem?
His character is too lightweight, he is too gentle, too sweet. He is even-tempered, and the one time he loses his head, even he is surprised by it.

But I loved

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but this one is among my least favorite of the the series. I like Colin and Penelope separately as characters throughout the series. But their romance is rather blah. Colin acts like a man-child through most of this. Penelope never really had a shining moment that she owned. Ultimately I didnt come away satisfied with the romance. Also, I think this second epilogue is not among the best. ...more
I don't know what's with me and Julia Quinn, but her books really don't work for me. I see that a lot of people love this series and her other books, I see that this book got a lot of love from readers, but I... I was bored most of the time.

Spoilers ahead.

Colin and Penelope were friends one moment and the other he wants to marry her. Just like that. I never saw how his feelings changed, we never witness his attraction, just all of a sudden they're kissing and he's asking her mother for her

This is fourth in a series and characters from the other three are important in this one. You can probably get by with simply knowing the relationships as presented here but I think it's worth knowing them in more detail from reading the other books. I wouldn't recommend skipping the first two, at any rate. The third isn't much present so skip that one if you like. Indeed, I urge you toat least if you're likely to react as strongly negatively as I did.

I entered this with some trepidation because

I don't know why I found this book as disappointing when I first read it, but now? I found it VERY DELIGHTFUL to read...

Okay, first let me just say that Colin Bridgerton is my favorite among the eight siblings. I know everybody who've read this series would say the same. But his story, kinda disappoint me. JUst a tiny, little, iota of disappointment .

But at least we already know who Lady Whistledown is.

Thats it! Colin Bridgerton is my fave!

I literally cant stop reading these amazing books! I do believe all the Bridgerton men have won my heart in different ways, but Colin is so special. He and Penelope have rejuvenated me in ways that I absolutely LOVE in a story. I love it when someone doesnt realize theyve fallen in love with a person until it smacks them across the heart like a lightening bolt. Friends to lovers always makes me swoon, Romancing Mister Bridgerton delivered in spades. A huge

Another wonderful story from the Bridgertons Series.

I loved Colin. And dear sweet Penelope. The wallflower that blossomed into a beauty. She was lovely indeed.

We get to know Colin and Penelope in the first few books and I just knew Id enjoy them together. I loved how their relationship grew. As it changed from friendship to love Colin was remarkably sweet and tender. Who knew he could be that romantic? Penelope was loved by the one person she had dreamed about for years. Colin was finally
