A short, sexy yet sweet holiday tale set in the world of the Silvertip Shifters
Rough, gruff bear shifter Shane Walker left behind his fighting past for a fresh start in life. But, when Jessie McMillan, the passionate three-night stand he also left behind, unexpectedly shows up with a baby boy that's his son just in time for Christmas, can he rein in his wild bear before he ruins everything again?
This story is filled with heart-pounding romance, pause-resisting adventure, and some awesome sexy times. If you love big ole grizzly bear shifters who have a soft spot for their fated mates, the charming and funny details of a shifter-filled small town, and the beautiful power of true love to always save the day, this book is for you.
This is now the second novella of JK Harper's that I've read/listened to and I'm happy to report that I liked this one even better than the last. Harper is quickly becoming someone for me to fangirl over.
Mountain Bear's Baby is Shane's and Jessie's story. They had a fantastic couple of days together before they went their separate ways. Only Jessie wasn't alone when they said goodbye. She had a bun cooking in her oven and had no idea how to get in touch with Shane to let him know. She chose to keep the baby and ended up having a beautiful boy who she named Grant. But there was something different about Grant. Thank goodness Jessie's friend, Livy, knew what was happening with him and was there to guide her. And wasn't Jessie surprised when following Livy's advice brought her face to face with Shane...
Once again Harper wove a fun tale for her readers. Both Shane and Jessie were likeable characters. I think it took bravery and strength for Jessie to make the changes in her life that she did. I loved Shane's reaction to the news that he was a dad. Ok yes, at first it was rocky but the true meaning behind his actions were spelled out later in the story. Oh and Grant = major cutness!
As with the first story in this series the secondary characters shine. Livy was fabulous when it came to standing up for Jessie. I did a little cheer for female solidarity and friendship during that scene. Surprisingly Mrs. Walker, Shane's aunt, made an appearance in the story. I loved the note that she left behind when she went on vacation in Hunter's Moon so it was awesome that she got some page time. I think I love that woman. Although her presence in the story is a bit of a continuity conundrum since she's still supposed to be on her trip. Maybe she came home for Christmas?
About the narrator... Beth Roeg is still new to me as this is only the second of her performances that I've listened to. However, she's quickly becoming a favorite. I find myself anxious to hear her other work. I just love the way she narrates!
Something that had me giggling... "Holy smoked mackerel on a cracker"
When I started reading "Mountain Bear's Baby" I was kinda excited because I really liked the first few chapters... Unfortunately, after a while Shane and Jessie's story became boring. I found myself struggling to finish the book... It had so much potential but at the end if fell short.
Just to let you know, Amazon reports this novel to be 156 pages. Try 115. For those on a budget or have a preferred page count to read, keep this discrepancy in mind. To me, a 50-page difference in reporting is significant. I can write a ton of stuff in fifty pages...
Therefore, imagine my bemusement when I realized that the story seemed over way before its expected time! I had been hoping for a little more even if it was strictly a day-in-the-life-of stuff. Intimacy is fab stuff and a lot can be done.
The characters could had been more if we knew more. I'm sure the writer assumed we had enough info about Shane and Jessie. Most of it was all centered around Grant, their offspring. We learned little more world-building that we didn't have in Hunter's Moon. But it was still predictable... except for that damn word count discrepancy. Yeah, I do keep coming back to that because I had been expecting more other than the over-nighter that becomes forever.
Read it for brain candy. Read it via KU like I did unless you find yourself tied to this series. No more needs to be said.
My Thoughts - 5 out of 5 Unicorns - I loved it!! ***I choose what I read and review based on what intrigues me!! I own this ebook and the audiobook, but no one tells me what to think, feel, or write about any book! I have bought the whole series in ebook and filled out my collection of the audiobooks for this series too!
This is the second book in the Silvertip Shifters series. I own 24 ebooks, and now 6 audiobooks. This is for adults only due to the steamy content. This audiobook is about 2.5 hours long or the ebook which is about 85 pages long.
I started listening last night and didn’t want to stop! As a single parent, this one struck home. Every single parent dreams that the absent parent will show up and be a part of their child’s life, but sadly it doesn’t happen often. This was a feel good story that I was happy to read. I was happy when she found Shane, and that he wanted to be a part of both of their lives. I hope we get updates on this family in the future.
I highly recommend to all bear shifter fans especially if you love feel good stories!!
This was one tiny step more dramatic than the previous book and that’s not a bad thing. I enjoyed it and was very satisfied when I got to the end. Also I’m starting to see a good, solid pattern.
This is the second in the series. To be honest it wasn't bad but was eminently unremarkable. I had to re-read the beginning to remember it when I realised I had forgotten to add it to my reading list on Goodreads. It didn't take much, just a couple of pages but even so. Having said that it was quite quick to return to mind and not just the ladies in the first couple of pages but Shane and the situation so it was perhaps not entirely unmemorable. I believe that this is actually a good way of writing a review a few weeks after reading the book, as it gives a sense of the impact. I would say this one may well be worth reading.
At one time Maverick Walker used the fighting ring to let his demons out, he was often out of control holding onto his past and not caring much about anything. That began to change when he met Jessie and he had three amazing nights with the one woman who seemed to reach some deeper part of him. But, like always, Maverick couldn’t trust himself so after their sensuous three nights were over he was gone as well. Only this time he carried a woman’s memory with him… and he made the best decision of his life, to head home to Deep Hollow and heal. And maybe one day be a good enough man to search out Jessie again. Little did he know that fate was about to give him a helping hand on that plan.
Mountain Bear’s Baby is a quick read and takes us further into the Silvertip Shifters series. Shane is an amazing man. Yeah, he’s had come rough things handed to him in life but he’s gaining control, reining in his bear and making changes. That sense he had about Jessie turned out to be right on the spot, and now he has a son… and a mate. Watching Shane, Jessie and Grant become a family was a delightful experience. It’s not always easy, but love is worth it in the end. I had fun in this world once again and would recommend this story and this series to any Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance reader.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Jessie never thought she'd see her baby's father again, she has searched for him high and low to let him know, but 2 years have gone by and nothing......She never did find out even his whole name after 3 days of bliss, the only thing he left behind was her beautiful baby boy. She just moved to Deep Hollow so her little baby bear can grow up around his kind. Little did she imagine that she would bump right into the man that never left her dreams.
Shane never could get that gal out of his mind. It was the best 3 days of his life no, the only best days of his life, because until he came back to Deep Hollow his life was a living hell of his own choosing. Until he sees Jessie again does he realize that she is it for him and his son to top it all off, but will she accept him after all the years of silence?
This is a sweet addition to the Silvertip series and a quick and easy read. Single mom Jessie McMillan recently moved to town so her son, Grant, could grow up around other shifters. With the help of her best friend, she found a job and a small apartment, and her baby's daddy. Shane was a different man, a fighter and wilder, two years earlier when he met Jessie and spent the three best nights of his life with her. Since then, in an attempt to settle down, he moved to be near his aunt and is working for her family at their lodge. He's thought of Jessie often, but they didn't exchange contact information or even last names. So when he runs into her in town and learns that not only does she live there now, but he also has a son, he does what any confused bear would do...he runs and shifts and runs some more.
A human girl met a man two years ago and fell in love with him. They're affair lasted only three days. She ended up being pregnant but not knowing where Maverick was.
My friend was visiting her and realized that her baby was a shifter, a bear shifter. She and true friend move her to the town of Deep Hollow.
She mad Maverick one day when she was going to a cookie exchange. Maverick was done to find out he had a son.
The characters are terrific, sexy, and charming. The plot is two people finding that they are in love and mates. I like this book because has a happy ending. Another thing I like your description of the area surrounding the little family.
I swept through this book so fast - a shifter romance with a happy ending
Shane had a horrific upbringing and turned to a dark side to exact revenge. To his demons. He also meet a woman whom he trusted and bonded and spent three days together Jessie risked it all on a stranger and ends up with a miracle. They walked away and went on their paths. 9 months later she can't find her three night stand. Fate throws them together. This is a story of paste doesn't mold you. We ert and moving story. I was through the book so quickly I was at the end before I knew it. Violence 0, sex2

Shane has finally found his place in the world and has made his home deep in shifter country but he misses the one woman who lit up his life. Jessie got pregnant one wild weekend and now has a part shifter son. She's never been able to find his father and never forgotten him either. Jessie moves to shifter country to raise her son and runs into the man she can't stop thinking about by accident. After the shock wears off Shane realizes that he has a mate and a son and he needs to man up and take care of them.
A girl and a guy spent 3 days together with just their first names exchanged. A human woman with a bear shifter son and no father has been encouraged to come to a bear shifter community by a friend who has told her about shifters and the special needs her son will have. Starting to rebuild her life till she sees the father of her son, who has a different name now. The fun begins at how these two must straighten out all their lives and become the family they were meant to be. Can they do it or is it to late?
After three nights of bliss, he just disappeared but he left something behind. She will never regret those nights or the result, her precious son. She didn't have the best childhood, so she never believed in forever but she wished she could find him to let him know about his son.
He's in for a shocker! He had moved back to his aunt and uncle's place to start over but what he didn't expect was to see her in his hometown! He could never forget her no matter how hard he tried, the surprise he got when he saw her again, sent him running.
This started with a great idea. It had promise and good characters at first. Then it became rushed and lost the flow of the first two chapters. It also lost my interest as it lost its ability to tell a story It just wanted to be done or least it felt that way. If the characters were more developed and the story more thought out i think it would have been better. It had lost all relastic feeling to it once they were reunited. The author just mashed them together.
I got started on this as an excerpt from the free book
I liked the first one, read the excerpt and bought it for 3 dollars. I'm not sure why the first seemed longer and worth the money, but it is beyond short and sweet. It is a cute book, but just as it seems to get started, you start to figure out the characters, it's over and I was left feeling lost and wondering. I won't be buying another one. This took less than 2 hours to read. I'm not a fast reader, and today has been busy, so to have bought it this morning and be done already just seems wasteful.
Jessie has moved to Deep Hollow with. Her son Grant who is a baby Grizzly shifter. She has a long weekend with Maverick and found out she was going to have his baby. When she realizes he is a shifter she calls Livy and they move Jessie and Grant to Deep Hollow so they can help her with his shifting. Surprise, Maverick is there except he is going by Shane Walker. What's up with that.
I enjoyed reading this story it's exactly what readers like my enjoy. I haven't read as many of J.K. Harper books as I would have liked to read. If you are like myself and you enjoy reading about shifters and their mates then you will enjoy this book. The characters are compelling, exciting and intriguing. I highly recommend this book for reader who enjoy reading paranormal romance.
This easy reading, well written novella is a great love lost, love found fated mates win the day story. Shane thinks his past will forever make his future bleak. But when he finds the woman he thought he'd lost, right in his own home town, he has to reaccess. Jessie, and her infant son Grant, have found a shifter safe town. When they find Shane (AKA Maverick) there Jessie starts to realize she may have found home. Lovely novella with a hint of Christmas.
Read as part of Silvertip Shifter's box set 1-4. Hard pressed as to 3 or 4 stars. Excellent short story, but one of the very few, if not the only where mates aren't marked. I'm surprised to find that that was my grading point, but it has become such a staple to the genre, that to just call it good, with nothing to seal 'the magic seems wrong. I'll come back to this series, not just because of my retentiveness, but because it's decent. But its lacks has me going elsewhere for now.
Shane and Jessie had an amazing three nights together, but he was not in a good place in his life and she only knew him as Maverick. She has been unable to find him to let him know he has a shifter baby. Shane is afraid he will be just like his terrible father. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
This is the first book by this author that I have read, and I really enjoyed it. The characters are engaging, and the storyline is interesting. It's a fast and easy read. I really enjoyed it after having just read a really intense book. It was the perfect counter balance. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
A sweet holiday story where two people who were just passing through when they spent time together reconnect after they've both moved to the same small (bear) town. They've never stopped thinking about each other, and this time he realizes she's his mate. Plus there's their adorable very very well behaved baby she couldn't tell him about until now.
Mountain Bear’s Baby is book two in the series Silvertip Shifters by author J.K. Harper. Sweetheart of a tale - imagine being a new mom and all alone - oh and did I mention the little is very special. Then bam you run into a brick wall. Baby’s daddy is in shock and soon things heat up!!! Enjoy!!
Baby PNR, HEA, past abuse issues, human/bear couple.
Both parties deal with past childhood issues and responsibility of healthier parenting than from their own. Others help and council because it takes Community to support parents and children and keep a town healthy in the cycle of life.
(Shane & Jessie): this book was ok but not great. Just your average shifter romance book minus one or two elements. The danger, the mystery; something that keeps readers on the edge of their seats. This was very cut and dry, insta -second chance romance. I know they are novellas but I just wish the author would've put more into the story.
Good Story but not long enough for the money. story needs to be more in-depth more details back story, front story, current STory anything . develope other characters Would help it . First book was better but same problem. I thought it was incomplete story because free. So I paid for this one expecting more and got less.
The story was short but sweet, a bit fast paced but it keeps you interested throughout. I love reading about Bernie shifters or really any shifters and especially about their mates. Great short story!!!
This is a great story about Jessie and her bear shifter son moving to a shifter community only to find Grant's father. The story needs to be fleshed out more, but it is heart-warming. She
Ooh - The love story of Shane and Jessie is actually quite sweet although it seems like Shane, a former fighter, would be the last bear to be a loving father to the cub he just found out he had. The chemistry between the two of them is really electric and made for a good steamy read.
