True story originally written in 1993 about the author's experience as a child of 6 and living on Pearl Harbor before, during and after the attack in 1941. It gives a child's view of what it was like and then goes on and gives facts and stories from other people who lived it all. It is a nice addition to all the other stories that those of us that have been around since the 1940's have read. I've read many and I either didn't remember or never knew that we lost pilots to our own Friendly Fire during that whole chaotic mess because of fear and miscommunication.
Our children don't seem to get as much History now as we did and this would be a nice way for middle school child to easily pick up some information they may not get any other way. There are pictures that enhance the reading.

My copy is the 70th anniversary edition and is autographed by the author. This book is quite long, so I will have to edit when I read it to my students, but it is powerful and easy to understand. Highly recommended.

This was an excellent read. It’s meant more as a children’s book, possibly. I find it good to read other people’s perspective of events, not just the soldiers.

This is a book that is a fabulous read for upper elementary students. Dorinda has included many person facts and eye-witness details that make this book stand out among the other books for children about the topic.

I bought this book in 1998 at Pearl Harbor. I was deeply moved by the first hand account I learned these poor locals went through each day after the attack at Pearl Harbor.
