My name is Tamsin Vale and my life is radically different from a few months ago. I’m a college freshman who didn’t finish high school. I’ve inherited more money than I could ever spend after nineteen years of never having much of anything.
I’m the last fairy… And no one knows what happened to the rest of them.
That doesn’t even cover half of it. I’m having hot sex with a dragon prince that I have some weird energy thing with. Then there’s my sexy professor who I can’t seem to stop crossing lines with when I know it’s stupid.
My best friend—who has turned out to be from a dragon knight clan—now works for the college and is helping to keep me safe. And it’s needed since I’m drawing attention with being powerful as an unknown.
Also, because I’m not declaring my species—but how can I when some people on campus can tell if I’m lying? And telling the truth isn’t an option.
Not if I want to stay alive, much less pass the semester. At least I have the school’s best tutor helping me and I like a challenge.
Including handling the impossible, like trying to save all of Faerie.
Artemis University a hot burning reverse harem, university-age paranormal academy series with darker elements, strong language, violence, and a heroine who follows her own moral compass of what is right… And who she ends up giving her heart to.
Erin is a born Chicagoan who decided to state hop a bit, given she works from home. She currently resides in Georgia with her pup, Lord Vader Flynn. With an eclectic and addictive personality, there isn’t much that doesn’t interest her or she won’t pour herself into if it catches her fancy. She has always been interested in the darker aspects of life and mythologies—especially vampires, shifters, the occult, and anything paranormal.
To date, she has published more paranormal books than she can keep up with the characters for, in different genres with dedicated readers who await each release to her numerous series under any of the three Flynn names she writes.
There is a difference between being strong and being rude. Yes, it requires strength to stand up for oneself and I applaud those who do. However, the MC is at the point where she just chastises/humiliates/threatens everybody she meets. There are better ways of conflict resolution. Personally, I think it is better to have the strength, wisdom and patience to pick your battles and plan how to fight them; otherwise, you are just the boy who cried wolf.
Additionally, while it wasn't directly said, she was the female dom within the romance which just does not appeal to me.
And while I have your attention... there was not a lot of things that happened for the plot either. It seemed to consist mostly of filler scenes and scenes to show how "strong" and "fierce" the heroine is while still having a soft side.
I went back and forth in what to rate this book. There are a lot of things that I didn’t like which were making me lean towards 3 ⭐️, but at the end of the day I did read all 4 books in 2 days and will be reading the next one as soon as it is out so was leaning to wards 4 ⭐️. But after reading more than half of the series thus far I think the 3 ⭐️ is a more accurate rating.
The good: It is an intriguing and fairly fresh idea. I like the world the author built. The lore and world building is actually one of the main reasons I keep coming back. I want to know what happened to Farie. I want the corruption of this world to be righted. I am intrigued about all the races and their societies. All in all that aspect is very well done.
I like a lot of the characters. The heroine is strong, feisty, a fighter, someone that has gone through a lot yet manages to be just and not be too dark. The harem is interesting enough, even if they need more depth. I like that from time to time one of them steps on it and issues ensue since that is an actual thing that does occur in relationships. I like that the female has a lot of the power in all of her relationships (even if it sometimes backfires in the building of the relationships). I like a lot of the side characters that are strong and supportive and overall like-able.
The bad: Ok so these are the things I was not a fan of and feel some of them would have been vastly improved if the author had a good editor.
Yes there are some grammar issues, but I usually don’t care about that unless they are extreme which I didn’t feel was the case here. What did bother me was the story flow. Sometimes I had to go back and reread whole sections because I didn’t understand what the author was trying to say. Other times I had to reread because things just came completely out of left field and in a way that did not flow well. Also there has not been enough plot development and we are already 4 books in.
Something else is that Tamsin comes across as preachy, a lot. I enjoy a good dress down as much as anyone, however when you are constantly doing it (several times per book) it comes across as preachy, and diminishes the effect. It doesn’t matter if it is other students, parents, faculty, staff, or rulers, you bet Tamsin has bitched them out. Sometimes actions speak louder than words. So no need for so much exposition and just take action.
She also likes to reveal a lot of her private life and plans out in public, when it has been established that everyone’s hearing is really good and that there are a lot of spies out to get info on her. That comes across as a dumb thing to do and just poor strategy.
Lastly, the sex and relationships also bothered me a bit. The sex is very female dom, which is fine, but makes it a little unbelievable. She, a college student without a lot of relationships, conquests, or a lot of sexual experience really has all these men panting after her like slaves? Ok, that is sexy for a bit if you are able to suspend your disbelief, but not the best way to build a relationship. Add in that it tends to be pretty repetitive on what she wants from them (and what she wants is the only thing that matters) and lots of master/slave play (even if the words are not used to describe it as such) and it makes the sex scenes less believable. As for the relationships, we are 4 books in and they still can’t decide if they are serious? As a matter of fact there is still 1 member of the harem that has not been added. How many books is this going to be? Also the end of book 4 with how things developed and were left with Craftsman was not my favorite.
A lot still needs to happen and be developed in the story, characters, and relationships. The reason I gave it 3 ⭐️ in spite of having some reservations is because I WANT to know what happens next and will be looking forward to the next book. Hopefully the author gets a good editor and some of these issues get resolved.
I liked this better than book 1, but I think that is because I understood the FMC better this time round. She is still an in your face kind of woman, with grit and determination aplenty, but her softer, and more humane side, is showcased here a bit more often. Also, she’s not trying to win all the battles herself, she is realizing she has allies now - and that she really needs to use them.
First person, Urban fantasy. Slow burn, Academy RH. MMMF(M?) This is a Slow build Harem, so not 100% sure yet. Episodic Ending Rating = R (adult) Character age range = 19+
Pros: - deeper character development. - Friendships. - The political world is becoming clearer. - Foreshadowing is subtle, but there. - Very Interesting metaplot brewing. - Kinda glad she is holding off with Craftsman... there is something up there and get instincts are making her cautious.
Cons: - Over powered FMC.. trope - The mean girl is over the top and so cliche it hurts. - Still Not fully connected to the FMC. - Some Editing errors.
There's still nothing happening in this book and its getting old! So now we are attending all the classes and tests with the FMC. This is like watching teenage drama but without the drama. At this point I think I would take anything as long as it moves the plot along. What is frustrating is that the books have ingredients and setting for some really good story. The plot, or what I am assuming would be the plot, sounds interesting enough. But reading about running, shopping, eating or attending classes all while everyone is awed about how powerful the FMC is, gets boring pretty quickly. I am not even going to comment on how she wants to be a saviour of everyone and every situation, in the most obnoxious way imaginable.
I was still thinking of reading the next book but the author's note to book 3 says this is going to be a 25 book series. I am not that patient.
I’m giving this book only three stars because it seems like the author has forgotten the main point of the series —to discover what happened to the fairies and help them if needed. We’ve now had two books and the only significant thing she has done is gain access to Fairie and give it some power. The fae dog thing and the sanctuary just seems like filler to me. At this point the series is more or less about her day to day life, her constantly blowing raspberries and telling off whoever she thinks has slighted her/someone and all of that is getting old. Move the plot forward already. Jeez.
Enjoyed book one but this one was a continuous repetitive diatribe of how the mc gets angry and constant thinking of overstating to out her. The mc became too sarcastic, childish, and angry for no reasons No development on romance or characters. Lost interest on this one..
I'll continue to read the next one because the plot is interesting, but this book was... no words. It read as a filling only, no real gain in the plot or in the relationships, and the writing is atrocious. In need of a good editing and a thousand more commas. It's not a stream of consciousness, it's dialogues 🙄
reread it again to continue reading this series. I thought i would maybe like it more the second time but no, i was not liking it more. Sadly i think it has potential, for me personally it fell a bit flat.
Tamsin is learning more and more about the supernatural world, and with midterms fast approaching, she's absorbing as much knowledge as she can. More people start to surround her, attracted by her personality, that she can start trusting, and even hobogoblins and fae dogs (hellhounds) make their appearances. I'm so excited to see how Tamsin will manage everything and still continue to be badass and kick asses.
This series is great! Ran is harass and so generous to the right people. She always fights for the underdog. She is very deserving of rhetoric that happens in her life. I am waiting for the th part still. I'm extremely curious to see who she picks. I would give this book 5 stars, but it needs an edit, because the mistakes do draw you out of the story.
The editors really need to School this author on the overuse of “blew a raspberry.” Seriously it’s distracting. Tam’s over the top chip on her shoulder also makes her kinda unlikeable at times. But I think that’s the point. To show she is flawed. Good story. Interested to see the next one. But dear God enough with the stinkin’ “blowing of raspberries.”
This series is seriously keeping me hooked, strong no nonsense heroine a great casting supporting characters, plenty of excitement and drama. This series has captured me and I just want to binge read the rest as I thinks it’s fabulous, diving straight into book three a gem of a find for me
The story is good. The characters believable. My only issue is that at 19 years old,the main character, Tamisin is constantly blowing raspberries. That it's so aggravating and unbelievable. I was wondering if the author just really didn't have a word for what she pictured the character doing. Either way, if this character continues to blow raspberries, I'm going to have to find another series.
Book 2 is awesome!! I get to see more of what this world is like as well as learn more about Tams and Mels past and see all the different relationships grow
Im giving this book a 5 star review in hopes the author will complete the freaking story! Who writes 2 books and then places THE END in what is Clearly not! I've wasted hours invested in this story and characters and a lot of very specific ramblings about the routine of college courses and how stressful it is. The story has a great premise and is it's own kind of unique but come on! Where is the action and adventure the book keeps leading up to just to fall flat once it gets there? There are still so many possibilities for this series and despite the mentioned flaws I would like to be able to have a COMPLETE series with some real action and a satisfying ending. I'm totally disappointed and would discourage you from reading unless the author decides to actually COMPLETE THE STORY! I've never seen a " well if you like it post about and and I MIGHT write more" what a crock. Totally disappointed and pissed with the author. It's a total scam to sell what you know you don't have plans to finish. Seriously?! UGH!
This and the previous book undoubtedly just made my week. I really couldn't believe there were only two books but still so much to unpack and to talk about.
This series was so vivid in a sense that it was full of dynamic thoughts and feelings and interactions. Aaaaand I didn’t know where to start.
Ok. So how about I dedicate a shoutout to one of the most badass heroines under the reverse harem tags? I love the take-no-bs personality. I love the fiercely loyal and protective attitude. Most of all, I love the generosity and the humility; the ultimate combo imo. As in THAT chick who knows how to apologize when she's wrong and admits her fault (mostly because of her ignorance to the whole new world of supernaturals and whatnot.)
I love love love her. I really do.
I love how the light and dark faes and all other things about Faerie were distinct from the usual image they had from most rh reads. (They were mostly portrayed as blood-thirsty monsters or sexual deviants.)
Instead, they are kind, generous, thoughtful and loyal. Not that I said there weren't bad apples among them, at least not yet for now. Actually, they were thought to be debt collectors and even hinted that the 'eye for an eye' mentality came from them.
Such a refreshing viewpoint, this one.
Err...Istg I have a lot to say but I kind of got lost while I was thinking about Tams.
But anyway. It's funny how very action-centered and insta-steam but slow in plot building this and the past book were YET I really dig them. Not my usual taste which told a lot about the series itself.
So far, my fav hero was Julian. I like Hudson and Darby but they did have further to improve...and I was very much invested in how they would pave their way back to the heroine's good graces, ha!
Sigh, book 1 was awesome but book 2 is just filled with her man problems. It doesn't make sense with Tasmin's background that she's immediately focuses on relationships, but I was willing to ignore that since, yes, this is a RH romance. But now its just annoying. There's no plot besides her getting into arguments with boy 1 and boy 2.
Wanted to see more plot and more movement towards . . . whatever the end goal is here.
This was...not good. The story is actually interesting. I love the Faerie plot line. The love interests are personable, (even if the teacher dynamic is a little icky for me). The main character is intolerable to me. Her outspokenness, and soap box declarations are over the top.
The biggest obstacle this series faces is not the ideas, but the writing. It hurts. There aren't grammar issues...but the sentence structure makes my eyes twitch. I want to be shown, not told.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I very much enjoyed both books, 1 & 2. While not a perfect read it was escapist fun. The FMC waa a bit of a special snowflake but I love overpowered characters so this was a positive to me. I still found some of the dialogue odd but it didn't keep me from enjoying the book. I am still intrigued by some of the males and their motivations. Can't wait for book 3!
This series is one of the best ever. It's on my top 2 for sure. The series has a complexity to it that keeps your mind on its toes. Not only is there so much depth to each character in The plots that are going on that the main character is a badass with a great heart I strongly recommend this series to everyone
Drowning is a good word for what Tamsin stepped into. 5 stars because I really love this series. I love her attitude and disposition, how strong of a character she has to fight all her battles and those to come.
I like that each book is different in the series, not just a rehash of the first book. The characters aren't perfect and all have their own individual quirks and drives. Keeps the series very readable and can't wait for the next book.
Please note the following review encompasses the first six books of the SERIES. As each book depends on the prior books, I am not reviewing each individually to cut down on repetition. Following this review, I will be reviewing the series in batches of 5, with a final end review of the series as a whole.
As always, I will endeavor to minimize spoilers, but please read at your own risk.
First off, to readers who are just looking at this series. I was one of you. I understand the intimidation you likely feel seeing that this is a 26 freakin book series. For ages, I disregarded this series based on this fact, because, let's face it. That is a time commitment. However, I urge you to not be me. Be like Mikey (IYKYK).
I was utterly hooked from the first chapter. Artemis University is unlike any other campus. Sure, you find some similarities. You have the Queen B and her squad of mean girls. You have the sleazy guys who think they deserve for the hot chick to fall face forward in their laps. You have the beaten down, downtrodden, unpopular smart kids.
But you also have a headmaster at odds with corrupt school board members. You have professors who want to break free (from family, societal expectations, powerlessness, and more.) You have ride or die besties.
You have Tamsin. Who knows nothing about the supernatural world she's been brought (unwillingly) into, even though she has a dragon BFF. Tamsin and her unwavering loyalty, resolute courage, and utter willingness to do whatever is necessary to both be the change and enforce the change. She takes on all comers, and quite frankly, outclassed all of them. She is an utterly delightful main character, and I cannot wait to see how she continues to grow and develop. I have a gut feeling that she is going to continue to surprise me.
You have Tamsin's men. I'm not calling them out by name simply because I am enjoying the vicarious ride to find out who will make the cut. I know a couple, but others … who knows? I'm sure I will eventually find out. But mark my words, each of them are delectable.
This series was sold to me as a romance, and there are certain … expectations … for titles under that umbrella. I'm telling you now. Do not read this for the smut. I am not saying there is no smut. I am not saying that the given smut is bad. I am saying that so far, the author has skillfully woven the smut into the plot, and is only rarely gratuitous. This is a series for fans of riddles within puzzles within dreams. There is a metric frakton of plot points to keep you occupied, and the layers of each character make Shrek look like a glass tabletop. 6 books in and I continue to find surprises under the layers I'm slowly peeling away page by page. I told you. I'm hooked.
I am calling this first review here. Expect to find me extolling the phenomenal world this author has created, as well as some important plot notes that may intrigue you. But before I go, I do want to add a content warning of sorts because mental health matters. Contained in the story so far, you will find past trauma (physically, emotionally, and smexually.) There are forced abductions, bullying outside of the harem, references to ongoing trafficking, violence, attempted forced mating and SA, family disconnect and related trauma from both sides, and discussion of forced breeding. Please know your limits and read responsibly.
love the main character she does have a few fault.
OK, so I love the main character and this review can possibly be seen as a spoiler alert so you’ve been warned if you haven’t read the book before you read the review the only issue I have with Tasmin is that she is caring a lot of secrets which I understand why but if someone makes a mistake around her The level of perfection she seems out of people is unfair compared to herself and I don’t mean she expects people to be perfect in life, but she’s carrying secrets and people who are around her don’t have her full story so if they make a mistake and insult her a way that tears into part of her secret. She gets mad at them as if they did it intentionally I’m putting out specifically her issue with Hudson. Yeah I get being upset with him, but in her case you’d think He Truly did something wrong. He didn’t really mean anything by it and her expectation of people giving her grace because she’s new to the world doesn’t seem to translate on her end when realizing that these people grew up a certain way and they live a certain way and the way they operate is pretty specific so it seems to be like pot meat kettle like she expects all the grace in the world and expects people to treat her a certain way and do not judge her but the minute someone messes up with her face maybe how they were raised or anything like that, it’s like intentionally it’s like she can’t see it and it’s kind of a character flaw because overall she’s a perfect main character she’s strong she’s smart. She’s funny but one of her character flaws and it’s kind of a big one is that she treats people unfairly instead of taking a step back and going OK maybe I overreacted or OK you know what maybe I should give them grace she continues to do it and then excuses it as if someone truly hurt her when the life that she lived before she came to the school. She knows what it is when someone truly hurts you she knows what it is when someone truly uses you and with those life lessons, you would think that she should know better and that she should know when someone’s intentionally trying to do somethingto hurt her.
