I very much enjoyed this series. The thing I found most difficult in this one was the fact that a 57 year old had a baby. I guess it could happen but seems a bit far-fetched.
I had a strong feeling this book would be the last on the Kate Wise’s series. I somehow expected more on the close out. I didn’t like the last few moments of the previous book on the same series so I hoped to see a kind of turn around on this last one although it didn’t quite happen. Anyway i am starting next the famous One Gone. I know I will have fun reading it till the end.
The murder mystery in the story is always interesting, but I'm going to save you a LOT of time...
The protagonist, 55-year-old Kate Wise, is not happy being retired and she's pretty much the best FBI agent EVER! The FBI director brings her back to work to help solve a case and train a new agent who is going to be the next best FBI agent EVER!
She stands her boyfriend up, ignores her daughter and grandaughter, and heads back to work, but laments about it throughout the book. After working on the case for a matter of hours or maybe a day or so, her director pulls her from the case because she hasn't magically solved it, nevermind the fact that there are very few clues to work with.
She defies the director, and goes rogue. She misses clues, arrests a suspect, then second-guesses her arrest, finds the right suspect, but only after failing to properly follow safety procedures and getting her ass kicked (while constantly lamenting her age -55 OMG!) at every opportunity and whether she should just give in to retirement. Then, she cleverly solves the case.
The director calls her back to DC where she gets lambasted by the angry (wink-wink) director. She returns home where her boyfriend and daughter forgive her and understand that she simply MUST work because she's pretty much the best FBI agent EVER!

This book is a bit bittersweet and I liked what Kate came to the realization of by the end of the book. With the nugget that Kate learned at the end of the last book I was wondered how it would affect this one. I liked that Kate realized things couldn't be the same, she was 57 and quite frankly childbirth should be different at that age than in your 20-40's. I found myself laughing a how different things turned out to be and how Kate's grown daughter had to badger Kate to get into the swing of things.
I sort of hated that Kate went back to work, but could see how this case would determine if she would continue to work. The relationship between Kate and DeMarco was great as always, but changed, or it had in Kate's mind. I loved that she saw that DeMarco was coming into her own, more sure of herself and her abilities and how Kate let DeMarco take the lead. Even working the case when things got physical, and they always do for Kate, she realized once again she couldn't quite keep up. I both hated and liked seeing that, hated because Kate new she was done on the job and liked because I wanted Kate to be able to enjoy this second chance with the new baby and Alan as well as build a relationship with her daughter and granddaughter. Even as Kate and DeMarco parted ways you know that Kate will always be a phone call away for her, ready to bounce ideas around.

This was the last book in the Kate Wise series and it was a great ending to a remarkable mystery series. I loved that Kate wasn't this young hotshot agent who knew everything. She was a 55 year old woman that had retired from the FBI but decided she still had a lot left in her to give.
In this book she gave birth to a healthy baby boy which was a shock to her and Allen. Never did she think at 56 she could conceive a baby let alone be able to be a new mother again. She was known as the Miracle Mother from the press. She was annoyed by that but had to take it in stride. 6 weeks after the baby was born she took on a case with DeMarco and she knew it as DeMarco's show. She also knew at the wrap of that case that it would be her last. She was actually ready for it this time. She was 57 years old and had a baby boy and a granddaughter she planned to watch grow up. She was finally ready to retire from the FBI.
Great series I can't tell you how much I think everyone should give this a go.
I listened to this on audiobook. This was my least favorite in the series. The story line was a little less believable than the rest and honestly, how many times can Kate just happen upon the killer? This was the first book of the series that I predicted how it would end. Also, I thought the series was over, and it very much ended like it could be, but there are 6 more coming out.
Another great instalment of Kate’s story, an interesting storyline a reader can be entranced leaving them unable to put the book down. The thrilling book is inspirational for today’s mothers no matter if they are young and old and can still have a career and a family. Kate is doing her complete best to embrace being a new mother and grandmother but needs to make life decisions and her FBI partner is making the decision a little too easy for her. As a reader I feel that the ending is open for options and left wondering on how is FBI agent DeMarco is going forward. I have received the book free and the review is my own
I really liked this series. However, the last book seemed to be forced. He could have just wrapped the series up in the previous book. Too much of this book was repetitive and there were a couple of errors which took away from the story, which was good.
This book was alright. The Killer felt similar to the last one in book six. The Series as a whole was good, but I wish Blake Pierce wouldn’t stick to the same pattern of plot for each book.
As usual, the mystery had me hooked till the end. I have a soft spot for characters that are abused, named Brent, and have a strange sense of justice though, so that part got awkward for me real quick. Despite that, the book was good. There were a handful of grammatical errors which could have been seen quite easily, but they didn't distract from the plot. One continuity error I found in the series was DeMarco's first name. Most of the books had her named Kristen (If She Knew, If She Ran, If She Hid, If She Feared), whereas she was named Jo in one (If She Fled). It was very jarring to read, and I had to wonder if I was going mental after binge-reading the entire series within three to four days. Still, this was a wonderful series, but I'm still not happy with the fact that her husband's murderer was still not caught by the end of the series.

This series of books captured me from the very beginning. I've binged on them for a couple of weeks now and have very much enjoyed each one. My only complaint would be the lack of proofreading in each book. There are many places where a word is spelled correctly but is the wrong one for the sentence. There are a few places where a word is either missing or partially spelled. I did get a little frustrated with the fact that Kate's supervisor would keep yanking her off of cases when she was supposed to be such an impressive agent before her retirement. I would definitely recommend this series!
I was a bit disappointed in the ending of the series. I thought the final book would be about Kate Wise solving the murder of her husband, Michael, while her new son, Michael, with her new man, is alive and well.
Still, I enjoyed Wise and DeMarco’s hunt for their new killer in this final instalment.
There are still tons of typos and a few inconsistencies, as the last few books have had though.

If She Heard (Kate Wise #7) was a great read by Blake Pierce. Two teenagers home from college are found murdered in their hometown. The FBI is stumped and they call to 55 year old agent Kate Wise. She is still recovering from giving birth but needs to help find out what happened to these girls. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.
Unremarkable story, but kind of like the audio equivalent to junk food. It's entertaining enough, but not much substance. Our semi-retired FBI agent becomes a mother at fifty-seven and goes back for another case. She must be in phenomenal shape, because we have another fight scene. Kate continues to mull over her options with a new child and husband and her job.
Really fun and engaging story. As with the whole Kate Wise series all 7 books were a rollercoaster of twists and turns. Sad to see the series come to an end but all good things must retire eventually.
I got stumped after knowing about Kate's pregnancy but it was so brave of her to put her health and marriage at risk to do this one last time. Blake Pierce never fails to surprise me and I am so glad I could finish this series as well.
Excellent murder mystery by Blake Pierce. Kate Wise is a physician who solves frustrating cases. I loved the plot development and outcome of this latest book. I highly recommend it. Renee Goldberg rgoldberg227@gmail.com
Another great installation in this series. Interesting characters, unique locations. Easy read, a bit less of a cliff hanger than the earlier books. Still a 9/10.
Great finale to the series, I'm glad where it went you could kinda see from the last book that age was finally catching up and with Kate having a son to think about thos time made sense she would finally come to terms with it.
This was another brilliant story, although I noticed a lot of em-dashes which leads me to believe he used AI to help craft this one. I don’t have a problem with that (just get rid of the em-dashes and nobody would know). I’m ready for #7!
Blake I have read all of your books this one was truly excellent hope it will not be the last one I finished it in one day did not see the ending coming
I live Kate. I'm almost 40 and really relate to her in many ways, as I've always been in circles of mature educated women. I love the dynamic with her partner and hope to possibly follow them more.
