Whenever I see a girl with a gold bikini, I think of Princess Leia. Here on the Gold Coast, gold bikinis are common, so I think of Princess Leia a lot.

Eighteen-year-old Olivia Grace has deferred her law degree and ducked out of her friends’ gap-year tour of Asia. Instead, she’s fulfilling her childhood dream of becoming a private investigator, following in the footsteps of

I received a copy of this gorgeous gem of a book, The Girl With The Gold Bikini, from Wakefield Press in exchange for an honest review, all thoughts are my own.
I loved this book! It’s so unique and full of fun, pop culture references aplenty and a wonderful main character with a plot that just kept me turning the pages!
I absolutely adored Olivia Grace, I just found her to be so unique and carefree and love how she literally chased her dream of becoming a Private Investigator, choosing not to go

Trigger warnings: fat shaming, disappearances, cheating, sharks.

Okay, I LOVED this. It's like an Australian Veronica Mars with an overweight protagonist living on the Gold Coast and who's decided to become a private investigator while all her friends are off on Schoolies-type getaways or backpacking around Asia.

Walker has very much captured the vibe of girl sleuths like Veronica Mars and Nancy Drew, but she's also created a story that's just really freaking hilarious. I loved Olivia as a protag

Fun, fast paced and actually hilarious, this book for me was such an easy and joyful summer read! The crazy situations Olivia keeps throwing herself into were very amusing and I kind of liked that she was a bit of a mess! But a strong sassy mess! ♥️
This one was so much fun!

The Gold Coast and Byron Bay cultures are skewered perfectly in this modern-day surfing Nancy Drew mystery with a dash of romance, and comedy. But beneath the quips about 43 words for surf, and Yoda-speak, this YA novel addresses critical themes of patriarchal control and sexual harassment. Leia breaks her chains, while dressed in a gold bikini. Enjoyable.

Set in two of my favourite places in the world, Byron Bay and the Gold Coast, The Girl with the Gold Bikini is a fun, sassy and empowering story of Olivia Grace and her life as she tries to work out where she fits in this world. Having always wanted to be a private investigator she puts her university acceptance and gap-year holiday on hold to take her job with her childhood friend Rosco. Olivia is a wonderful main character. She is smart, confident, unique and full of Star Wars references. Her ...more

Olivia Grace is on a gap-year and is a private investigator in her childhood friend's detective agency on the glittering shores of the Queensland Gold Coast. Olivia may have feelings for Rosco, her childhood friend, if she ever admits them to herself, and becoming a detective like Nancy Drew requires Olivia to challenge every part of herself.

The Girl with the Gold Bikini is Lisa Walker's second YA novel and delivers a contemporary spin in the tradition of Nancy Drew and my all-time favourite det

I loved this! And that was totally unexpected. I thought I'd enjoy the read but I ended up loving it. In a way the protagonist, Olivia Grace, reminds me of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum. I haven't read any Plums in a long time but just how things always turn on their heads on Grace but in the end, I think Grace is made of stronger stuff. The Girl with the Gold Bikini is funny, light-hearted, but it also packed a good punch. If you're still looking for that perfect beach read this summer, READ ...more

I’m not sure why but this one didn’t really click for me. Olivia Grace is exactly the type of heroine I typically love but I never really connected with her and I found some of her exploits a bit too outrageous and unbelievable.

I did, however, get very nostalgic for Queensland and its beautiful beaches. (And remembered how much I too hate Surfers Paradise).

Snarky MC with lots of positive messages about body image, family, relationships and dreams.

It doesn't take itself too seriously, but also cleverly covers a bunch of challenging issues young women are navigating today.

I loved it a lot.

A really enjoyable modern update on the genre from a female, body positive, YA perspective. Lisa Walker nails not only the genre tropes but also her surfing passages are comparable with some of the great surfing noirs from Kem Nunn and Don Winslow and she does it all through the eyes of a suitably enthusiastic, self doubting, novice detective protagonist.

I really enjoy the characters voice and could definitely get behind a further adventure in her detective career, the mystery at the heart of t

Lisa Walker delivers a sharp-witted, delightful romp with her latest novel, The Girl With the Gold Bikini.

Having deferred her law degree and forgone a backpacking tour around Asia with her best friends, Olivia Grace is fulfilling a childhood dream by working as a private investigator-in-training on Queensland’s Gold Coast. Working for her entrepreneurial (and attractive) former neighbour, she is disappointed to be mostly running internet searches, rather than saving the day like her idols Prince

Olivia Grace has just finished school and although she has an offer from a university waiting for her, she has avoided a gap year in Asia and instead has taken a job as an assistant in a private detective agency. It’s the opportunity to live those childhood dreams out – Olivia is an avid Nancy Drew fan and she wants to be in the thick of investigations, rather than completing background checks and doing paperwork. She’s working for Rosco, a childhood friend that she used to play with…..but as th ...more

The cover suits the story perfectly with it's summery sunset colours, the beach, and the surfer. In my opinion, it really is the perfect fit.

The author, Lisa Walker, surprised me with a light and easy to read writing style. She's put together a great mix between a serious, detective-like story and a great kind of humour. For me, it's been a very pleasant and highly thrilling reading experience.

I also fell in love with the great characters of the story and have been quickly captivated by the very

Content warnings: Light sexism, light fat shaming/body shaming, references to sexual assault (non descriptive)

First of all, I want to give a massive thank you to Wakefield Press for providing me with a copy of this book.

I adored Lisa’s first book, Paris Syndrome, and found that there were some similarities of what I loved from that book in this one.

Lisa’s writing style is so easy to read and enjoy, and the chapters were short, which made this book feel like such a fast read. The plot also helped

Set on the Gold Coast, The Girl With the Gold Bikini follows Olivia Grace; an 18 year old amateur private investigator.

The fast paced novel was a playful, quick read. It had me constantly smiling, and I definitely related to Olivia on more than one account.

The story flowed extremely well, and had very little dull moments. The Australian setting was familiar, which I really enjoyed and resonated with.

This was my first novel by Lisa Walker; I can't wait to read more of her books especially if the

So good,I enjoyed everything about this book but especially that it was based in Australia. The ending and the friendships between the characters was so great and honestly made me smile so much. Surely this becomes a series as it would be great to follow such a loving and body postive character such as Oliva Grace.

It’s time for the @AusYAbloggers Girl in the Gold Bikini Book Review Tour!

Thank you @wakefieldpress for the review copy!

Olivia Grace has just finished high school and is now working as a private investigator’s assistant for her childhood friend Rosco. Olivia’s dream is to be like her hero Nancy Drew, but it’s not quite going as planned.

I loved the characters in this book. Olivia was such a great narrator. She was funny and witty and smart, if a little impulsive at times. I would say this book

Lisa Walker writes with such heart, optimism and sun-fuelled energy, I’d follow her characters anywhere.

Her latest novel, The Girl With the Gold Bikini, delivers her trademark wisecracking heroine – this time, Olivia Grace – as she negotiates love, family, the social and political intrigues of the Gold Coast, and herself.

Breakneck page-turning, good old-fashioned fun, with a madcap Nancy Drew-esque mystery plot that is constantly surprising, here’s a beach read – literally – to keep you guess
