I low key loved this book. It's basically 200 pages of either gay men talking about how they first ate this recipe off of their boyfriends glistening pectorals and it's just a freaking recipe for party mix or garlic bean dip OR it's lesbians saying they love their wife over and over again and they make this extremely complicated recipe to show thier wife how much they love her (and then they mention how much they love their wife once more just in case).
However there are somehow THREE different recipes for what is essentially grapefruit salad and it just baffled me.
A very sweet collection of anecdotes and recipes from queer foodies. It functions on the surface as a cookbook, but incidentally gets into what it means to have or make home, family, and community.
I got this for Christmas from my best friend, and we look forward to trying all these delicious recipes! I just finished making a shopping list so I can get started. Overall these dishes are healthy, not too complicated, and include short essays from the cooks who developed them. The book is colorful and the photos look delicious. I am super excited about my new book.
I came for the stories and stayed for the recipes! I do wish that each contributor had been given more space to write about their experiences. I appreciate that the chefs chose recipes that are simple enough for the average person to reproduce; they don't require expensive specialized equipment or a slew of difficult-to-obtain ingredients. My only complaint with the recipes is that almost none of them were free of meat or dairy products, even the "vegetarian" section. Even so, I bookmarked a number of them I am going to use in the future.
In these book-challenging times, I've been checking out as many LGBTQ+ items as I can locate in my public library. I was thrilled to find this *cookbook*! I've had it out for Pride Month and every recipe tried has been a winner. There's a lot of seafood & we have allergies, so that may dissuade a purchase, but I'll recommend to others. Pasta Puttanesca Skillet Choc Chip Cookie - best Lemon Ricotta Torte Hoppin' John Salad Chicken Orzo Soup Lots of great bios/stories, too.
Gifted this to my spouse for pride month & it filled with colorful recipes and the stories are heartwarming. We enjoy going through it for cooking ideas.
