Amy Parker's Night Night, Pumpkin is a great Fall read to get everyone into the Thanksgiving and Halloween spirit!

Fall is my fave season, which makes it only natural that I'd want to grab a few Fall themed books! Amy Parker filled that void with this utterly adorable picture book. This story makes for a great story time or bed time read. It's fun, light hearted and absolutely delightful. Add in a lovely story about family and Fall, as well as the gorgeously bright pictures and you've got yourself a real winner!

Three out of five stars.

Night Night, Pumpkin written by Amy Parker with art by Virginia Allyn is a lovely Fall treat. Allyn’s soft and beautiful art wonderfully complements Parker’s easy-to-read rhyming story. This book is a perfect and gentle bedtime read for younger readers during the Fall and Halloween season.

This book follows an adorable puppy in a pumpkin costume as he says goodnight to everything he meets on a lovely day during Fall. Come along for the quick and fun journey as the puppy and his friends wish goodnight to the cows, apples, pumpkins, corn, family, and God.

This is a lovely and comforting book! Parker’s writing is wonderfully simple and easy-to-follow. I like the loosely rhyming narrative. It is a great treat to read out loud. I also love the warm feelings of family, friendship, and togetherness that run throughout the book.

This book is a very gentle autumn read that wonderfully captures the feelings and colours of the season but without any scary or overwhelming imagery. It is perfect for very young readers who are not ready for anything too complicated. The book features lots of familiar Fall activities like apple picking, going to the pumpkin patch, exploring a corn maze, and wearing fun costumes.

Allyn’s vivid and detailed full-page illustrations are absolutely gorgeous! She wonderfully captures the warm and vibrant colours of Fall. The animal characters are so cutely depicted! I love their cheerful faces and adorable costumes. I especially love the tiny pair of mice that pop up in some funny places! Young readers will have fun searching for them on each page.

Night Night, Pumpkin is a lovely and quick read with beautiful art and a nice story. I really liked this book and I will definitely check out more from this talented author-illustrator duo!

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for this book in exchange for an honest review.

While I thought the words and art were adorable the book was lacking in a couple things. The book seemed more geared toward two yearolds and my nearly 3 year old was not really into the book, I think because it was a little too simple for him. I do think it was a really cute book though!

I liked this book and the images are lovely and the best thing about the book for me – they are lovely and autumnal!

I read the book with my daughter and she did enjoy it but for me as a mum I felt it was a little lacking in places and oversimplified and could have done with a little more text. It is 3 stars from me for this one

This book is written in a sort of rhyming scheme that mostly very lyrical and only at times a little bit forced sounding. The pictures are really cute, with some little hidden things to point out to littles (like a pair of mice that is sometimes in sort of silly places!) The formula is predictable enough that my 4 year old was repeating "night night, apples" and the like on each page, which was adorable. There are some mentions of God making the stars and the like, so know that's there whichever way you swing on having God in your children's books. It's a great length and theme for a bedtime story.

Guest review by Jaime (age 6):
"It was so good that I loved it. My favorite part was the pumpkins."
What was your favorite part? "The hay bale one that I loved."
Were there any parts you didn't like? "I didn't like the leaf one."
Would you read it again? "Yeah."

Guest review by Link (age 4):
"It was good, good, good. I would say, the 100 good."
What was your favorite part? "The cows... Yeah, I love cows."
Was there any parts you didn't like? "My part where I didn't like, is like the one... The one I don't like is the corn one, because corn is kind of gross."
Would you read it again? "Yup!"

A digital ARC of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley for review. All opinions are unbiased and my own.

What a sweet book! A day to enjoy in the wonderful Autumn season is documented. "Night Night, Pumpkin" is the creation of bestselling and award-winning author-illustrator team Amy Parker and Virginia Allyn and is the second seasonal addition to the popular Night Night line of storybooks.

This board book is a perfect bedtime read-aloud that little ones can relate too. An adorable little puppy in a pumpkin costume goes about his day saying good night to the leaves, pumpkins, his family, the corn, apples, cows and God. At the end of his busy day his mom tucks him in, along with a host of others animals, and says... "Good night Pumpkin" to him.

The rhyming words and colourful, detailed illustrations are a perfect marriage. Together they bring the story to life. The autumn season dominates the storyline unveiling its wonders and the book expresses thankfulness for all of God's fall blessings. The strong bonds of family love flow from page to page.

This book prepares children for the beauty and fun that the fall season can offer and would be great for preschoolers and kindergarteners to listen to at any time of the year. I highly recommend this book.

Thank you Thomas Nelson Publisher and NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review!

Night Night Pumpkin is a young children's book featuring fall activities. It seemed a little old for my 20 month old since he wouldn't do many of these activities, but too young for my 3.5 yr old.

I couldn't help but chuckle and include this in my review because it matters much more than my personal opinion: my 3.5 yr old son was very confused about why we were saying "night night" to things during the day. A picture depicting a family choosing pumpkins and having fun on a fall day, yet we were saying goodnight to the pumpkins? He caught that weirdness, and I don't disagree. We prefer the Good Night Books that make more sense while also showing places and activities.

The art is fine, but not particularly imaginative or inspiring. The words are fine. Overall, this is just a fine book. It's the kind of book someone would gift my boys but I wouldn't buy.

Night Night, Pumpkin by Amy Parker contained all the autumn feelings.

The writing was fun and lyrical. She encompassed all the fun activates of the fall. I loved the various animals. The illustrations by Virginia Allyn were gorgeous and beautifully detailed. I loved the subtle message of God’s love as well.

The only odd thing was at times the characters were saying, “Night, Night” during the day time.

This is perfect for really young children.

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson publishing for the digital review copy.

This book is all about Fall, and it’s just what I needed as another summer storm blows through and I’ll have to swim through the humidity to my car. I am ready for Fall. I have been ready since the first day it was over 75 degrees.

This book is definitely aimed at communities of the Christian faith, so keep that in mind if you want to pick this for bedtime, which is the best time for this book, in my opinion. Just look at the title. You’ll find plenty of leaves in this book, beautiful, warm colors, some Thanksgiving celebrations, and of course, getting tucked in at bedtime.

It’s out now, but I’d save it for when it actually starts getting cool outside. Hopefully soon!

In this book we see how animal friends love to play, eat and share their things including thanking God for what they have, saying prayer and thankng and saying goodnight to all they gratefully have.

A good book to teach youngsters to appreciate all they have when others have so little and to learn to share too packed into a fun autumnal story.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

"Night Night, Pumpkin" by Amy Parker is a fall themed good night book with adorable animal characters and sentimental prose. The book is a classic tale where readers will say goodnight to various things with the turn of each page. The rhythmical writing and fun storyline makes this book the perfect Fall season read for kids that can be enjoyed year round. The illustrations are simple, colorful and extremely well done. Our kids enjoyed the animal creatures and liked seeing all of the fall themed activities like the leaves changing colors, leaf piles, crisp fresh apples and more! Our family highly recommends this book for young readers and all Fall lovers!

I found this book quite adorable in both pictures and how it was written. It is Christian based, which I will say outright because there is a prayer in it to God. So, if that is not your kind of children’s book, then this is not for you.
The story follows a rhythmic approach using rhymes throughout the pages with book along with beautiful fall themed illustrations. Perfect for Preschool through Kindergarten age.
Little Puppy and his family go through activities of fall and as they finish, Puppy tells each activity or something from it, goodnight. You will see all fall related activities such as raking and jumping in leaves, visiting a pumpkin patch, praying before a Thanksgiving meal, a corn maze, apple picking and more. Each activity is followed with a sweet Night Night, (insert activity). While you go with Puppy and his family on their adventures, be sure to look out for some visitors on every trip with the family.
My Kindergartener thought the pictures were very pretty and she adored the fall colors. She had fun saying Night Night to everything along with Puppy. There was more detail to the illustrations than I had expected for a book of this age level. This made it nice to look at and have my daughter discuss the illustrations with me and what we could see. The book also opens up the conversations you can have with your child regarding Fall and various traditions people have during this season.
While this book is not the type of book I would normally pick up, I did enjoy it and think many others will too.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this electronic copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

Night Night, Pumpkin by Amy Parker is a great story for preschoolers about Autumn/Fall. It shows a puppy wearing a pumpkin going through his day doing all sorts of fun activities with his family and friends. After each activity, he says Night, Night to something depending on the activity (trees, leaves, apples, family, God etc.) We read this one at bedtime, and I had a hard time getting my granddaughter to settle. There is a lot happening during this puppies day and she wanted to tell me all about each picture and then when she did the same activities. She even tried to start jumping around. I had to read a quiet book after finishing this one to settle her. I did enjoy this story, but I am not sure if I would classify it as a bedtime story. It is a fun, light hearted story with wonderful and adorable illustrations that certainly elicited quite a discussion. I loved that the family focus was also a central part of this story. I was gifted a copy of this book upon request. The rating and ideas shared are my own.

This book is a complete....and super sweet...Autumn celebration, and also makes the perfect night time story to lead to calm sleep and dreams.

Every page packs bright, joyful and colorful illustrations. The main characters are animals, who not only bright across a gentle atmosphere but radiate happiness. Every page gives thanks for something which has to do with Fall: leaves, pumpkins, apples, etc. The presented situations are ones that young listeners will be able to identify with.

Each scene is presented with four lines of text in gentle, poem form. The words are age appropriate and swing right along with the illustrations. At the end, there is a thanks to God for everything. It's a wholesome read which young listeners can flip through on their own. The illustrations also hold details, so that there something new to discover.

I received a copy through Netgalley and found this to be a delightful book for Fall.

Night Night Pumpkin by Amy Parker and Illustrated by Virgina Allyn was such a fun read! My 7-year-old’s eyes were wide and delighted taking in every page from cover to cover. The rhyming cadence added to his delight and kept his attention engaged while he took in all the different animals and their outfits on each page. While my son could read this book, he still enjoys time with Mom reading to him. I am grateful for Thomas Nelson Children’s Fiction making wonderful books available to make that time even sweeter and saving me from reading the same book every night for weeks on end.

Night Night, Pumpkin is a very cute bedtime story. My children and I loved the bright illustrations on each page, and the story was sweet and engaging. They are all begging to read it again.

I've found it can be difficult to find seasonal stories that also point to God, so I enjoyed the faith-based aspect of Night Night, Pumpkin. This is one we will definitely plan to add to our library!

This was a cute little picture book. The art was cute and fun. I liked all the animals and different creatures. I do think there was a bit of a disconnect between the title "Night Night, Pumpkin" and the rest of the story. There were "night nights" on each page but the story on each page didn't really fit with going to sleep. I feel like if it was actually night time the whole time instead of a day full of activities, it would fit a bit better. Overall, super cute!

This truly adorable nighttime story is sure to delight any little one with cute critters who are celebrating autumn and their favorite fall activities. With vibrant, two page scenes, little ones will love the soft, lyrical words as they follow along with the animals saying goodnight to the leaves, trees, cows and more! I personally enjoyed the “attitude of gratitude” this book cultivated for my little one’s heart and the mention of thanking God and telling Him goodnight. This is the perfect, cozy bedtime read for ages 2+ and is sure to be a favorite in our home for many seasons to come.

This was a sweet book that explains all the fun that is had during the fall season. My daughter loved the fun pictures and the way that the words rhymed. Each page we would say "night, night" to something that was talked about on the page, my daughter enjoyed doing that, I thought it wasn't a necessary part of the book. This is a Christian book that references God. Overall I enjoyed this book.

Like Amy Parker's other NIGHT NIGHT books, this story showcases God's blessings. From trees showing off their leaves to apples falling to the ground, beautiful fall images remind children of the colorful bounty in God's world. As the cows moo their lullabies, children will drift off to sleep with pumpkin images dancing in their heads.

I sat down and read this with my son, and whilst the book was colourful, it didn’t completely engage him with the story. Personally I thought it was easy to read, and the rhyme and rhythm were suitable to young children.

Would recommend for reading to younger children, possibly under 5 years old.
