After Karenna Pressley stumbles upon a ruthless drug dealer trying to drown her best friend, she’s on his hit list—and out of places to run. Her ex-boyfriend, K-9 officer Ray Morrow, is determined to keep her safe with his drug-detecting spaniel, Abby. But with danger stalking them, will their reunion be a chance for a fresh start or the end for them both?
Chasing Secrets, the second installment in the new True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn series, is a fast paced, action packed story from the start. Officer Raymond Morrow and his drug sniffing K-9 partner, Abby, respond to a call of an attempted homicide in a park where the victims turn out to be his former girlfriend, Karenna and her best friend Sarah. Karenna was to meet Sarah at the park to meet Sarah's boyfriend but when she arrived a man was trying to drown Sarah and then turned on her. Could this be the boyfriend? Sarah is in a coma and cannot answers questions. Ray and his unit work to keep the two safe while trying to solve the mystery but the suspect is always a step ahead of them. This story is centered around the important issue of the opiod crisis that faces the world today. The unit also has another ongoing case that appears to be related to a cold case from twenty years ago that is personal because parents of two of their own were killed and the murder is unsolved. Ray and Karenna have unresolved issues and are thrown together in an awkward but important way as he works to protect her. Faith is important to them both and plays a part in their situation. I enjoyed this story and recommend it for a edgy, suspenseful read. I received a complimentary ARC from the author and publisher for an honest review. All thoughts are mine only.
Phew! That super-charged opening scene had me hooked! Intensity plus in both the criminal pursuit and the reunion romance!
Kareena and Ray were an almost happily ever after couple until something went inexplicably wrong -- like both making assumptions about the other and nobody taking the initiative to talk things out. Five years later they meet up again under tense circumstances and the pages fairly crackled with charged unrequited love energy. Felt their connection right from the start and I loved the way their romance played out amidst all the chaos and danger.
And -- woohooo-- gotta give a shout out to Abby, the K-9 heroine! One of my first canine crushes was a springer spaniel named Billy and I've loved the breed ever since so I was thrilled with Abby just from that cover art. I do believe she's my first fictional springer spaniel and it's about time! Love all the details Woodhaven shared about the K-9 training and the way their scent detection works. I feel like I have a better understanding of how a K-9 partnership works which makes it easier for me to picture the Brooklyn team in action.
This is the second book in the True Blue K-9 Unit: Booklyn continuity series. There are two suspense threads going on -- one that is specific to Kareena and Ray's story which is fully resolved and another that will thread its way through each book until the last one releases in the fall. I like the way that second suspense plot is developing, giving readers a chance to connect with the whole team and get a sense of their personalities while giving us an opportunity to process clues right alongside them. Since a new book is released every month, it's easy to remember pertinent details from one story to the next, though Woodhaven has done a great job of keeping new-to-the-series readers current with her recap of information from the previous book. Chasing Secrets can definitely be read as a standalone romantic suspense.
She escapes with her life but will the killer let her live after she saw his face?? Karenna Pressley goes to Prospect Park to meet her good friend and the new friend in her friend’s life. Instead when she arrives she discovers a man trying to kill her friend then he tries to drown her. Luckily she is able to drive him and get help away but she saw his face. The help comes in the form of her former boyfriend, K-9 Officer Raymond Marrow and his partner Abby, a springer spaniel. Abby alerts her handler to drugs on the scene. The man trying to kill the women is a drug dealer. Will Officer Marrow & Abby plus the K-9 team be able to keep Karenna alive? Will Officer Marrow and Karenna rekindle their relationship? An intense, action packed read with plenty of thrills, chills, twist and turns. The story wii keep the reader on the edge of their seat. Extremely well written with detailed informative about the K-9 unit dogs, their specific training and handlers. A gripping storyline beginning on the first page. I volunteered to read Chasing Secrets. Thanks to the author and publisher for the opportunity. My opinion is voluntary and my own.
Loved it! Can't wait to continue the story next month. I'm loving these detective series. The dogs steal the show though. They've got such personality. But truly what keeps bringing me back is the mystery from book one that hasn't been solved yet and we just get a bit more each book and it's driving me crazy!
My review today is on the Love Inspired Suspense, Chasing Secrets. This is book two in the continuity series True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn. I am really enjoying this series and Heather is one of my favorites. This story is well written, action packed. and full of faith. I know you are going to love this book.
Karenna Pressley is to meet her best friend to see her new boyfriend. When she arrives Sarah isn't there. She hears arguing and finds her friend being drowned by a man. Is this the boyfriend? She tries to stop him and finds herself under water fighting for her life. She is able to hit him with a rock and screams. People are coming so he runs off. She calls for help and a K-9 officer shows up to help. The man who ripped her heart out five years ago. How is she to trust him now?
K-9 Officer Raymond Marrow and his partner Abby arrive at the scene. He is shocked to find the victim is the woman he almost married. His dog alerts on Sarah for drugs. Did she overdose before the man tried to kill her? He doesn't have the right to protect Karenna; he gave up that right years ago but the need to protect her rises up within him. Can he keep her safe and not lose his heart again?
A journey of a horrifying madman out to kill anyone who gets in his way. These two broken souls are forced to work together to find the killer and to stay alive. God has a plan for them, a plan for a hope and a future. God has a plan for you too. A good plan and not for evil. Do not fear God can work out your life if you give Him the chance. He is always good.
Talk about full of action and suspense with romance included. It has a great second chance storyline here. For Karenna Pressley walks into a bad situation that keeps getting worse. Which happens in life. I like that Heather uses apps and shows how they can have problems. Ray Morrow is a cop that never forgot his first love. But he had some growing up to do. Its surprising how many people make assumptions not realizing that there is 2 to make a decision. That is brought out in this book in a small part. What is well done is the way the author grabs from the beginning with the story and keeps you going with lots of action. She also has a mystery going on as to who is the person after them. They have clues but no real identity. When they find out in the end they realize how dangerous this person is. The danger brings them together. Thru the epilogue you can see time passes and things develop further. I like that this is being done for most relationships take time. I look forward to the next in the series. J
"Chasing Secrets" is a Christian romantic suspense. It's the second book in a series and continues an ongoing mystery, but it also works as a stand alone novel.
The main characters were likable and reacted realistically to events. Karenna and Ray got along well and worked together pretty well. They both had some issues in their past that they had to work through before they were in a good place to renew their relationship. For example, Karenna thought her rich, businessman father disapproved of her life choices only to discover that he bragged about her. Ray was driven by the death of his brother to focus on stopping drug dealing even if it meant he took to many risks and had little life outside of work. Ray never told her why he broke up with her, so they finally had to discuss that and how they needed to actually communicate rather than assume things.
The suspense came from the physical danger to Karenna and to some of her friends that have gotten caught up in drugs. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I'd recommend this exciting novel.
Non-stop action! With the second book in the True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn series, Heather Woodhaven takes us for an exciting ride as danger comes for Ray's ex-girlfriend! We're familiar with him from the first book in the series and now we get to ride along as he and his K-9 partner Abby step in to keep the one he left behind safe.
Karenna Pressley turns up in the wrong place at the right time to save her best friend from an attempted murder, but now she's in the madman's sights and she needs protection!
Ray Morrow didn't expect to see his ex-girlfriend as one of the victims when he walks onto a case, but he's determined to make sure he personally keeps her safe when he does.
I highly recommend this book and the entire series so far to anyone who likes an action packed, high energy faith-based romance. I'm looking forward to what's to come in the series.
If you like K-9 stories and mysteries, Heather Woodhaven's book is a must read. It is part of the new True Blue K-9 Unit Brooklyn series but it can also be read as a stand alone. This books grabs you in the first chapter when Karenna narrowly avoids being killed while saving her best friend's life. I like how Karenna and her ex-boyfriend Ray, who is a K-9 officer, both have things they need to prove to themselves (and others) while trying to find the man who attempted to kill the two women. Abby, Ray's K-9 partner, plays an inportant role in this story which makes me love it even more. Suspense, dogs, and K-9 officers - what more do you need in a book? I received an advance copy from the author but all opinions are my own.
Karenna Pressley comes across an attempted murder while looking for her friend Sarah and almost becomes the second victim of the ‘would be’ murderer. The fact that she has seen the killer’s face has put her in his crosshairs. He will stop at nothing to keep from being identified. Karenna finds herself depending on Officer Raymond Morrow and his K-9 partner, Abby to keep her safe. The situation is complicated by a previous relationship between Karenna and Ray. As the level of attacks on them increases, the two must work together to survive.
Heather Woodhaven weaves a story filled with intrigue and mayhem. I really enjoyed the book.
Intense K-9 Police Drama This is the second book of a series that can be read in any order. The reader may enjoy it more if it is read in order. The series shares characters and they all work out of or are involved with the Brooklyn K-9 Unit. This story involves an opioid dealer who will stop at nothing to cover his tracks. This is a very good story with lots of suspense and a romance. While there is violence, there is no gore and little blood. The story has significant amounts of faith woven into the plot. I have really enjoyed this series. I have read 6 of the 8 books, not in order, and love them all. I recommend this series if you love the genre and want to avoid nightmares.
Karrenna is on heading to the park to meet her friend Sarah. When she got to the spot they always met she heard voices. Peeping through the trees she see Sarah struggling with someone. She run to help her friend and the action begins. Arson, murder, attempted murder, drugs, poison, I don't think I missed anything. One thing I did forget her ex-boyfriend Ray and his k-9 partner Abby is assigned to protect her. If you like action wrapped up in mystery and suspense this is the book for you.
Book 2 in the series, each one written by a different author. This one, written by Ms. Woodhaven was very good. The intensity was well amped, the topic (drug addictions and the loved ones who deal with the fall out) was presented in a very gripping way and the characters were relatable. A few scenes even brought tears to my eyes. Very well done, Ms. Woodhaven. I really like this one.
I'm also enjoying the way the whole K9 unit is growing together. It's hard not to fall in love with these courageous dogs. Lol. I look forward to reading book 3. It's ordered and on it's way. :)
Always good the True Blue K-9 Unit Brooklyn Series book 2 has tons of action and really drew me in . Ray Morrow K-9 officer and his partner Abby respond to a call and when they arrive on scene he knows two of the victims one being his ex girlfriend Karenna Pressley. Now her life is in danger because she has scene the attackers face and Ray will do whatever it takes to protect Karenna even if it means at the risk of his own life in hunting down drug dealers. Will Ray let God take care of revenge and learn to work as part of a team before it’s too late?
These K-9 Unit books are delicious. I love them. This book starts with a madman drug dealer trying to kill a woman and her best friend. The cop who shows up is an ex from 5 years ago. It's filled with action regarding he works with taking drug dealers off the streets, and she works with helping addicts become successful living citizens drug free. She was filthy rich who chose to work with a non profit, and he felt disdain toward wealth. But five years changes all of us. Pretty fun to see the changes and where the miscommunications were.
"Chasing Secrets" is the second book in the True-Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn continuity series. Karenna Pressley goes to meet her friend and finds a man trying to drown her. Karenna is also nearly drowned, and since she has seen his face, she is now in danger. Karenna's ex-boyfriend, K-9 officer, Ray Morrow and his drug detecting spaniel, Abby, work to keep her safe as they work to bring down the drug dealer.
This continues to be an excellent series. Karenna Pressley has planned to meet her friend in Prospect Park. When she discovers that Sarah isn't at the planned rendevous spot, she begins looking for her. When she hears noises near the lakeshore, Karenna discovers that a man is trying to drown her friend. When Karenna tries to intervene, she is almost murdered as well. She is able to call 911, however, and help soon arrives in the form of her ex-boyfriend, Officer Raymond Morrow.
3.5 rating. Woodhaven is a new to me author. I really enjoyed her story. She let the story unfold naturally. She let the characters grow in faith without preaching at her audience. Karenna Pressley has become the target of a drug dealer. She stopped him from killing her best friend and in the process almost died herself. The officer who is assigned her case is Ray Morrow—her ex.
Chasing Secrets, (True Blue K-9 Unit: Brooklyn #2), is a twisty, turny read. I enjoyed Karenna and Ray's story, and Abby, his spaniel, was a big hit. So much fun to have a small dog be so impressive, and a villain who doesn't know when he's beat. Particularly enjoyed the author's writing style. Great take-down scene. Looking forward to the next installment.
Ray and Karenna are forced to deal with their past as Ray tries to protect her and solve the case. He finally realizes that he doesn't have to be a lone wolf and instead needs the help of his team to protect her. I enjoyed reading Chasing Secrets by Heather Woodhaven.
Karenna Pressley is stunned to find someone trying to drown her friend and is nearly drowneed herself as she saves her friend. She finds herself in the crosshairs of a drug dealing murderer. Her ex-boyfriend, K-9 officer Ray Morrow, is the responding officer and is shocked to see Karenna. This is a second chance romance with a lot of suspense and action.
karenna goes to meet her friend but find someone trying to kill her and she is almost killed in the save. her ex boyfriend help save her with he dog that alerts for drugs. but can he keep her safe and who is the guy that is still trying to kill her if you like suspense you will want to read the book
Another great K-9 book that has you reading it nonstop. Characters both have issues to work through while trying to keep ahead of the villain. Once I started it, I read it until the end.
This author has a style of writing that allows her to draw a reader in and capture their attention to the story before they realize it. Then they have no choice but to finish the book. I really enjoyed the two books in this series!!!
Seems like I had to remind myself to breathe, many times! Heather Woodhaven knows a great deal about how we all just have to evolve in life! We all think we have really grown, only to learn we still have a ways to go! Thanks, Heather!
I love everything about these books, they have romance, mystery, love, dogs...what's not to love?? Would think anyone who likes clean, good stories would love them!!
This was a very good read. I enjoyed this book very much. The characters were true and very believable. I could not be there in person. But this book was pulling me into it
Interesting main characters and story line. Some "christianity" thrown in, but is part of the characters as opposed to beat you over the head religion. The series is sort of like lifetime meets ptl, but it works for me.
