Based on the upcoming major motion picture and inspired by the original classic novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett, this full-color 96-page paper-over-board journal expands on the cinematic world of The Secret Garden through the point of view of Mary Lennox. Featuring unique content across both text and imagery, this journal format will open the reader's eyes to a more personal take on the events from the film. When ten-year-old orphan Mary Lennox is sent to live with her reclusive uncle Archibald (Colin Firth) and his strict housekeeper Mrs. Medlock (Julie Walters) in a mysterious Yorkshire manor, she feels lonelier than ever before. But her curiosity and determination lead her to disobey the adults and explore the forbidding house. While roaming the grounds of the manor she discovers an enchanted and boundless garden that has been hidden for years and reflects her limitless imagination. With local boy Dickon, her sick cousin Colin, and a playful stray dog, Mary embraces this world of wonder, unlocking secrets from the past and revealing a whole new life of hope and friendship for her to discover.
What an amazing and delightful book! Written through Mary’s point of view, these book is filled with sweet illustrations and photographs of the people Mary knows and from the garden itself! At first write as a diary, telling Mary’s day to day, from India to England, as soon as she finds the secret garden, the diary turns into a botanical journal, full of pressed flowers and there meanings! There’s also a few descriptions about Mary’s mother and aunt, plus an endearing letter from her uncle, Archibald Craven! If the book of “The Secret Garden - Official Movie Companion” lacked pictures from te movie, these one right here is the perfect pair to add to your collection, since the illustrations and pictures inside are breath taking!🌸 Loved this book and I’m so glad I have it in my collection!
This book is soooo cute and colorful!
The Secret Garden is a favourite classic of mine so I was really thrilled to be enjoying the story in another way. What brilliant illustrations and designs. Every page transports me to Mary's world. It was evocative of springtime and soft, merry childhood days.
The Secret Garden was one of my all time favorite books as a child, so it was a delight to read this journal from Mary's point of view. The floral illustrations help give a brief botany lesson and enhance the journal. Now I want to reread the classic story and will certainly look for the movie!
This was such a great book, it feels like I am reading Mary's Journal with her point of view to her life and to the mansion plus with all the illustrations of the flowers so beautiful.
This is such a beautiful book. Although it is short, but you'll be so entertained by the beauty of the story and the illustration on every page, just makes everything look so springy and charming.
I loved this book so much! I've never read The Secret Garden but will be reading it asap, just based on this.
This story is beautifully tragic, and Sia Dey writes in a way that allows the reader to step inside Mary's mind and feel this heartbreak. The voice was appropriate for a young girl and at times I found myself nostalgic for my childhood journal. The images were gorgeous, and I love the fact that she includes, not only drawings, but also external items like wallpaper clippings, photos, and dried flowers, which are similar to things a young girl would actually attach inside her own journal.
4.2 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I found this book at the dollar store, I didn’t expect much for a $1.25, but I absolutely loved this book, I got to see more of her thoughts on things. It was amazing 💛📖
