Her father had charged the academy's students to protect his daughter, and his directive seemed ironclad. But Holly and her father may have seriously misjudged the power and tenacity of the Oak King’s rival faction. The new year brings with it new courses of study. As first-year students enter a new semester, Holly and her friends learn about faefolk magic, and the nature of their own powers. About concentrated shifting, and glamours. But as the headmistress, Professor Ó Baoghill, begins a year-long sabbatical, her place is taken by a harsh new headmaster who questions Holly's scholarship. And the Oak King faction is on the move again, gaining power and supporters, especially after the students learn what Holly’s special fae power control of the elements. Some students feel threatened. Some just want her gone. So when the Master of Quests puts out a call for an archaic book of magic supposedly lost in New York City, Holly decides to take her own weekend sabbatical to find it, hoping the craziness will calm down in her absence. But the Oak King's supporters have other ideas, and they are out for blood. Samaire Wynne grew up in a lot of different places, and now happily resides on the East Coast of America, laboring away at writing stories every day. She is an animal lover with far too many pets, yet she still muses how she’d like to add even more. A lover of all things night and gothic, she also loves to read and reread her favorite books. Owned by a cat named Tyrion, she can be found haunting the shadows and mists that hang low over the hills of southern Virginia.
The journey continues in this second book. Catch your breath now because it's a rollercoaster ride! Who can you trust, and are they really who you think they are? Do you trust you senses? Fall down the rabbit hole - you're going to love this adventure!
It just never got good. The story never developed depth, the characters were superficial at best. The story rambles at best. TypeOs were getting worse as the book (2nd) went along. With a LOT of editing and rewrites, it could be good.
I highly recommend this fantasy series to all readers who love magic, fae familiars, and mysteries. I am eager to read the next book in this series. Enjoy!
I am an adult that occasionally likes to read some YA books recommended on Kindle lists. The first book I enjoyed, except for some NYC (native) and homelessness incorrect info. This book I guess my age and experience got in the way of plunging into the land of make believe. There are too many things I can point to for my rating. I will read one more book to see if it makes sense, otherwise I will leave this authors work to young people.
Okay so book two was quite a journey and I loved every minute! Less spelling and grammatical errors than book one but they’re still present. I love the characters and was able to breeze past them too hungry to read the words to further this great adventure. Hart Potter fans would love this series.
After reading the first book I wasn't sure if I wanted to read this one but I have to say I'm glad I did as this book was much better than the first! It had more surprises which I enjoyed and wasn't repetitive.
This was a fantastic book, getting intense in parts and vastly entertaining. Holly and her friends face the odds. Badguys multiply and Holly faces trials. I can't wait to read more.
