Sarah Bowen’s life is nothing like she thought it’d be ten years ago. She runs a successful lifestyle boutique with her two best friends, she’s the makeup artist to one of country’s hottest bands, and she’s in love with a womanizing heartthrob who doesn’t give her the time of day. After years of pining after Lex Ryan, she decides it’s finally her turn, even if it might ruin everything she’s worked for… Lex Ryan is the sexy Irish lead guitarist for the hottest country band in the States. He’s known as a serial dater, a commitment-phobe, a player who prefers one-night stands. His wild heart has zero plans of settling down—not even with the band’s makeup artist, Sarah Bowen. He’s vowed to keep his heart from falling for her. Until the band travels to Ireland where his past suddenly crashes into his present. They say wild hearts can’t be tamed. They never said they can’t be broken.
The Makeup Artist is the second book in the Coffee Book Series. It’s a standalone novel, but the author suggests reading Coffee Girl first because of returning characters.
What a fun and angst filled romance to read! As a romance novel, this story has everything that a reader could want. There is romance and a sense of 'steam' but there is also drama in the midst of keeping the overall story charming. The chemistry between Sarah and Lex was enough to make me swoon.
I also love the author's writing style and the sense of flow that she has. It's easy to read because it feels like you are watching this novel play out in front of you.
As this is a sequel, I highly recommend for readers to first read "Coffee Girl". Even though I wouldn't say that it's 'mandatory', you will be spoiled for other characters that are featured in this novel.
I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the future as it's guaranteed to be an enjoyable read.
***Thank you to the author Sophie Sinclair for sending me a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review***
“I’ve never felt more at home in someone else’s heart than I do in hers.”
**Synopsis:** Sarah lands a job as the makeup artist to one of country music’s hottest bands. She has a huge crush on lead guitarist Lex but he’s not a one woman kind of guy. While on tour, the band makes a stop in Lex’s home town in Ireland and these two decide to explore their attraction. But when Lex’s ex joins the tour to do a magazine piece on the band, the drama cranks up and the struggles begin.
~ “Don’t give up on me, mo chroí.”
**The following are my thoughts about this book: ** * * I got ticked off at Lex that he never seemed to be able to stand up to Alana (the ex). He appeared gullible and fell for her bullshit EVERY SINGLE TIME! Ugh! 😣 Sometimes he came off as a weak male character who didn’t know what he wanted.
* * loved the Irish feel. No idea if it is authentic, but I’m not from Ireland so it worked for me.
* * Lex used the “I’m not good enough for you” excuse. That cliche reason was bad enough, but even worse was the inconsistency. When explaining why he couldn’t be with Sarah, Lex said it was because he didn’t want to get emotionally involved. For me, those are two completely different things. So which is it…..he’s not good enough or he has closed off his heart?? 🤨
* * Sarah seemed like a doormat at times.
* * sometimes I felt the chemistry, sometimes I didn’t. 🤷♀️
* * I didn’t like this one as much as book 1. The writing was good, I liked the over the top best friends, I enjoyed the Irish dialect, but the issues above caused a tiny bit of frustration with the main characters. It’s a solid 3 for me.
**Overview:** - Content Warning: none - Setting: Ireland and Nashville - Do you need to read previous books in series?: this story could stand alone, but the supporting cast of characters are all from the previous book so I think it would be helpful to the reader to know the backstory of a few characters (especially Kiki and TJ). - POV: Dual POV - Tropes: famous musician
- Who is the Hero? Lex Ryan, lead guitarist for famous country band. Hasn’t been home in 10 years thanks to the crap his ex put him through. * The following words/phrases were used to describe Hero: has an identical twin, dark, rugged, dangerous, surly Irish bastard, bad boy, playboy, moody, mysterious, commitment-phone, rescues abused horses * H likable? sometimes he annoyed me. Especially when it seemed like the ex had him wrapped around her manipulative finger.
- Who is the Heroine? Sarah Bowen, makeup artist for the band. Owns a styling boutique in Nashville with her two best friends. * The following words/phrases were used to describe Heroine: delicate, elegant, makeup artist to the stars, fantastic, kind, respectful, ray of sunshine * h likable? Yes.
- h virgin? No - First time they kiss: 21% - First time they sleep together: 57% - Safe sex? Yes. Condoms and being clean was discussed. - First time they say I Love You 73% - steamy? Yes. Descriptive bedroom scenes - OW/OM drama? yes. An ex causes problems and is a big part of the story. Also, Sarah dates someone else during their separation - H/h cheat? No - Time apart? about 5 months (neither slept with anyone else during their separation) - Did I skip pages? No - Big secrets? At 71% the ex drops a bomb. It was predictable, as was the outcome. - Did I cry? No - Did I laugh? There were a few chuckles - Did I swoon🥰? I always swoon at some of the Irish sayings…… “mo chroi” ❤️ - Cliffhanger? No - HEA? Yes - Epilogue? epilogue #1: 10 months later. Epilogue #2: 5 months after epilogue 1 - Recommend? I had a few frustrations, but on the whole it was enjoyable
**Quotes** “Some things are meant to be savored. It may go down in flames, but the end result is worth the punch to the gut.”
“His kisses aren’t G-rated. Oh boy, no Siree. They are X-rated, whole body, blow-your-top, toe-curling, brain-consuming, sex kisses.”
A friends to lovers rockstar romance about Sarah, a makeup artist, crushing over the lead guitarist, Lex Ryan, a band member she gets to touch every day. An entertaining and delightful read that had me giggling throughout. I don’t get enough of this author!
The two have been friends for awhile, but Lex is a ladies man. He’s been hurt in the past and has been trying to run from love ever since.
Both characters immediately held my attention. Sarah is a sweet, smiley girl that everyone calls “Sunshine,” while Lex is a gorgeous, grumpy rockstar god with a pension for sleeping with the ladies. The two end up having a complicated relationship that gives the reader some angst, a little bit of steam, and whole lot of laughs.
There were moments, like with the gummy bears and the pranks they played on “Skankalana,” that had me laughing out loud. In a time when so little holds my attention, this book made me smile and kept me entertained. I’m head over heels in love with “Sexy Lexy” and his swooney Irish accent. I couldn’t give this book enough praise!
3.5♥ If you look for something light, sweet and funny, check out this story.
Sophie’s writing style is really great, I was absolutely relaxed when I started the story because I’ve been really looking forward to it since I met Lex and Sarah in the first book, 'Coffee Girl'. And it was nice to see the old company again, especially Kiki and T.J., you guys, what a combination they are, I shrieked on some scenes with them, they are so hilarious together. I adored Sarah, but Lex, not really that much. I mean, I'm still as angry as a lynx when I think about it.
“I’ve never felt more at home in someone else’s heart than I do in hers.”
This book is everything! It was funny, sweet, entertaining and I couldn’t loved it more! It was everything I expected it to be and so much more. I couldn’t put it down,I devoured it in a day and I really didn’t want it to end! After finishing Coffee Girl I was so excited to learn more about Sarah and Lex and they didn’t disappoint. They had me rooting for them and swooning while I watched them fall in love. Their chemistry was off the charts! They were perfect for each other, beyond adorable and so sweet. It’s rare for me to connect with character like I did with Sarah’s. I love her! She is one of those characters you want as your friend. I was constantly laughing at her inner monologues and her conversations with her best friends,Kiki and TJ, that were hilarious. I loved how grumpy but at the same time kind Lex is. There were moments when I wanted to shake some sense into him but still I could understand him. This book left me with that warm feeling in my chest and it made me so happy. I’m already impatient to read more from Sophie. Her writing is everything. Her books are funny, sweet, with the right amount of angst and filled with amazing characters. I loved this book and I loved Sexy Lexy and Sunshine with my whole heart! You can read The Makeup Artists as a standalone but I would recommend reading Coffee Girl first.
Once again Sophie Sinclair’s writing had me hooked ❤️ The second book in the coffee girl series “The Makeup Artist”, is about sexy Lexy and Sunshine Sarah. We were introduced to Sarah and Lex in the first book of the series as KiKi & Tate’s best friends on tour with the band. We learned that Sarah and Lex have a complicated friendship/ relationship. Sarah has been in love with playboy, Irish, lead guitarist Sexy Lexy since she layed eyes on him. And he’s had his eye on her too, but didn’t do anything about it because of haunted past.
When I heard that this book was coming out shortly after I read Coffee Girl, I was beyond excited! I loved Sarah so much in the first book, that I couldn’t wait to learn more about her. & Lex was such a mysterious character I was excited to learn more about his backstory 😁 Sarah is every girls dream best friend. I mean she’s fun, honest, funny, and just awesome. But of course the good ones always fall for the badboy. Lex is this broken beautiful soul and I just loved him. I’ll be honest he made me a little frustrated at times but what bad boy doesn’t? I wanted to hug him and slap him. I loved the way he was with Sarah though. I loved their friendship and their relationship. I loved the way the characters grew to be what the other person needed ❤️ and of course the ending was just perfect 🙌🏻✨ Anyway I could go on and on about everything I loved but I don’t want to give too much away :)
4.5 ⭐️ for well developed story, characters, and steam. I think I may have liked the first book slightly more because I couldn’t get over Tatum. He just made me swoon 😍✨ but still really loved this one 😘
Ps I can’t wait for Kiki’s brothers story 😍😍 thank you for sending me an arc sophie!
What a perfect follow up to ‘Coffee Girl’. I loved Tate and Kiki’s story and I thought I could not love anyone more than them but… Lex and Sarah stole my heart! You can feel the chemistry between the two of them down to your bones. Lex is such a mysterious character in the first book and I loved that we finally got to see who he really is. Lex is such a complicated character. My heart hurt for him. And Sarah… always hiding behind her big smiles, but finally being vulnerable with Lex. MY HEART. I felt so much while reading this. I am not usually an emotional reader but I shed a few tears here and there. But I also laughed quite a bit! These characters bust their way right into your heart! If you loved ‘Coffee Girl’ you will love the appearances Kiki makes through the book! I loved that she was a huge part of it as well as Tate. I was dying laughing at all of their banter and craziness. Sophie Sinclair has created such amazing characters and Tater Tot and Sexy Lexy will always hold a special place in my heart!
Sophie Sinclair is an author to watch, and has been a fave of mine since reading and loving The Coffee Girl. If you haven’t read Sinclair’s books, The Coffee Girl is a great intro to her romance novels. I fell in love with Sinclair’s writing and her amazing characters from The Coffee Girl book.
In The Makeup Artist, Sarah Bowen was immediately smitten with Lex Ryan ‘sexy Levy’, the handsome Irish lead guitarist to one of the hottest band in the country. Sarah gets a job as the makeup artist for the band and this crush with Lex blossoms over the years. Their relationship is as complicated as ever despite the obvious attraction, and I loved seeing the push and pull of their magnetic relationship.
Sinclair’s writing style is easy to read, funny as heck, has great steam, and full of side characters that really builds the story, and support the main characters. I enjoy the great banter, the immersive story telling that will have you rooting for the characters. A fun weekend read that I really enjoyed and absolutely loved!
I cannot wait to see what Sophie Sinclair has for us next as it is surely a guaranteed great read!
I LOVED this one. The broken, badboy, manwhore that loses his heart to the every day girl that LURVES him from afar. Lex was amazing. Sarah was adorable. I loved them all. TJ is life. Having Tatum and Kiki be the supporting cast was perfection. I loved this one. If you are looking for a cute, FEELS fueled, angsty little gem that will have you wanting to throw your damn kindle at times, READ THIS BOOK. So perfectly readable. xo
Thank you to the author Sophie Sinclair for a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.
Sarah Bowen is the makeup artist to one of the country's hottest bands and she's been in love with the lead guitarist, Lex Ryan, for over two years. Too bad he is a commitment-phobe and swears he cannot give Sarah what she deserves. When the band travels to his hometown in Ireland for their tour, Lex must overcome his past heartbreak in order to give his heart another chance at love with Sarah.
Let me start off by saying that I am a huge fan of Sophie Sinclair and will read anything she writes. I loved Coffee Girl and The MakeUp Artist was one of my most anticipated books this spring. I enjoyed it alot but I didn't love it as much as Coffee Girl. Lex and Sarah just didn't appeal to me as much as Kiki and Tatum did. She was a bit too emotional for me because she was constantly crying or trying not to cry. Also, without giving anything away, I thought the conflict came up and then got resolved so quickly, I felt like I was on a high speed roller coaster. The ending did tie everything up very neatly and I appreciated that. And of course, the scenes with TJ are the best and made me laugh so hard. Overall, it's a fun romance with lots of steam.
What a fantastic follow up to Coffee Girl! I loved getting to see Tatum and Kiki again, but Lex and Sarah's story was so painful and beautiful, it was more than I anticipated in the very best way. Poor Sexy Lexy. What a horrible experience with love. I'm so glad that Sunshine Sarah was able to help heal him. The epilogue was everything and I am eager for the next book! Well done, Sophie!
I really enjoy SS’s writing style(very engaging & easy to read) & the scene stealing, comedy duo of TJ & Kiki (I don't remember her being so zany in Coffee Girl). They were a little sophomoric at times, but I didn’t care, their target deserved it & they’re the main reason I’m bumping my rating to 3 instead of 2.75. Sarah & Lex’s chemistry read clearly off the page. They could be cute together. The epilogues were pretty sweet & funny.
However, this story had a bit of an uphill battle almost from go when the hero touched on a pet peeve of mine. That wasn't the only time Lex had me cringing, unfortunately. It wasn't so often, but it was definitely enough. I mean I didn't completely dislike Lex. He could be a charming flirt, with a tender, emotional side. He also gave Sarah quite few mixed signals & dicked around a bit with her feelings. So overall Lex was just wishy-washy for me. Sarah was sweet, cute & funny, but tbh, she was a little bit of a doormat when Lex was yanking her around. I don’t think he groveled quite enough overall. There was also way too much OW drama for my taste that he was basically half responsible for. GMAB.
So despite my turn offs with the Makeup Artist, I’m definitely not done with SS’s books. Coffee Girl was solid, so I’m hopeful she will get back to better plot decision making for Cam’s book.
“You hide behind that beautiful smile, don’t you?” “Sometimes it’s easier to. Sunshine always follows the rain, doesn’t it?”
SOPHIE SINCLAIR IS A GENIUS. She has taken a whole new spin on rockstar romance with this series and I’m completely blown away. I’m in love with this band and these characters so much so that when the novel ended I cried. I cried because I was so sad that it was over and I don’t want to wait for the next one!!
This story revolves around Sarah, the makeup artist, and Lex, the Irish guitar player. Sarah has been in love with Lex from the moment she first laid eyes on him and it was coincidence that they ended up working together on the band’s tours. Sarah is a ball of sunshine. Like no joke, everyone calls her Sunshine because she’s always in a good mood and has a beautiful smile. Lex is a ladies man and a complete flirt. But…come to find out…he’s always had a thing for Sarah too. When an international tour takes the band back to Lex’s hometown in Ireland, sparks fly. But of course, Lex’s past comes to stab him in the back sending these two lovebirds in a downward spiral. But don’t worry, they do eventually get their well-earned HEA.
There are a TON of twists and turns in this story. It was a huge emotional rollercoaster for me, but boy was it worth it in the end. These two were a force to be reckoned with. Both of these characters have suffered so much in their lives, and they find healing in each other. The first book in this series, Coffee Girl, was beautiful and brilliant and I absolutely adored it. But, the character development and depth in this story was so much more. It made you feel connected with these people, it humanized them in a way we haven’t seen before in this series. Even as you read this book, we get more insight into Kiki and Tatum from Coffee Girl. All of these characters continue to grow as you read and it’s such a pleasure to witness.
Something that I absolutely LOVED about this book were the Irish phrases used throughout the story. It makes it feel even more romantic when Lex calls Sarah “my pulse” or “my heart”. I thought it was a brilliant way to increase the passion in the story. It all happens so quickly, the falling in love, so it’s important to make it feel deep and rich – a forever type of love. The phrases helped with that. Nothing felt rushed or forced; everything felt perfect. Another 5 star review from me for Sophie Sinclair!!
“Is ceol mo chroi thu,” he says against my lips. “You’re the music of my heart. I love you so much, Sunshine.”
If you’ve read Coffee Girl, then you know Sarah the makeup artist has this huge crush on the band’s lead guitarist, Lex Ryan—the hot bad boy slash womanizing musician. When the band goes on their European tour, Sarah works up the courage to put an end to her admiration from afar and make her feelings known once and for all. Things get confusing after a heated makeout session with Lex and being identified only as friends. Is Lex ready to change his ways for Sarah? Or, is Sarah just ready to finally move on from this stupid crush?
You guys, this book was packed with so much humor that didn’t just make me LOL, I was straight up ROFL; yeah, I wasn’t literally dying, I dropped dead! TJ and Kiki said the funniest things, I swear. It was fun seeing the same cast of characters from the previous book, and gosh darn biscuits and gravy, how could you resist a tatted bad boy Irish guitarist?? (Don’t worry Calvin, I’m not cheating on you. You will always be my first Irish love.)
I devoured this in a day, could’ve easily in one sitting! While others may find Sarah a weak heroine, I saw parts of myself in her. And, you may think a love story about taming the bad boy is cliché, since it’s been done a ton of times, this brought fresh vibes, a great mix of personalities, and awesome dialogue. It definitely fulfilled my romcom fix.
Many thanks to Sophie Sinclair for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
Sarah is crazy in love with Lex Ryan. The only problem is that Lex is anti-commitment. He is known for his many hookups. Can't you just see the drama and heartache ready to happen?
This may just be one of my favorite 2020 reads! The story was fluid from start to finish. Sophie Sinclair wrote it in a way where I was right there in the story. I could see what they saw and I could feel what they felt. My stomach was in knots when things would go south. I was laughing during the Lexy shots in the pub and I legit sighed when they played "Ain't No Sunshine".
Kiki, Sarah and TJ together are hilarious! Anytime Kiki and TJ are together, mischief happens. When all three of them are together, expect trouble!
Even though this story is about a famous country band, the plot and the feelings the characters have are relatable.
I HIGHLY suggest reading Sunshine and Sexy Lexy's story. The first book was Coffee Girl and even though you don't have to read it to enjoy The Makeup Artist, Coffee Girl is a really good read as well and will introduce everyone that's in this story.
I can't wait to see what Sophie Sinclair gives us next!
The Makeup Artist is book number two in the Coffee Book series, and while this can be read as a standalone novel, I would recommend reading the first book first. Most of the characters are recurring and get introduced in the first book. We get a little bit more of Kiki and Tate, which I obviously loved, but the main focus is on Sarah and Lex.
We’re picking up the story at Kiki and Tate’s wedding. Sarah is still hung up on womanizer Lex, but it seems like he finally notices her. All of Lex’s commitment issues are being put to the test, as he’s trying his hardest to not fall in love with Sarah.
The band starts their Europe tour and travels to Lex’s home country of Ireland. Instead of a happy welcome, the group stumbles upon Alana, Lex’s ex. Alana’s appearance isn’t coincidental, she wants Lex back and she would do anything to make that happen.
I don’t think this book was as funny as the first one, but I still enjoyed it a lot. Lex is mysterious and I loved learning more about him and why he behaves the way he does. Most of the story takes place in Ireland and the author did some great research on the language. We get some Irish slang and cute accents, which was so fun to read. Sarah and Kiki’s friendship is even stronger in this book, and TJ definitely completes that trio perfectly.
Lex and Sarah definitely have chemistry, and their connection goes back all the way to when they first met, but I guess I am surprised that Sarah would still be interested in Lex after seeing him constantly hook up with random groupies and women. I am a little confused as to why he suddenly realizes that he actually has liked her all along. Their story is full of angst. There already is a lot going on with Lex trying to overcome his commitment issues and his ex showing up, the whole situation with Jax was maybe too much for me.
Overall, I really liked this one. I saw that we are getting a third book, and I couldn’t be more excited to read Cameron’s story next!
I received a free copy from the author/ publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review.
I am not exaggerating when I say you need this book in your life. I honestly don't think my words could do this book justice. I loved being back in the Coffee Book world with all the previous characters from book one. They are still a huge part of book two and it makes it all that more amazing. The Makeup Artist will make you laugh out loud, cry, want to punch someone in the face, and melt your heart all at the same time. How is that possible you ask? It just is. Sophie Sinclair has an innate ability to create characters that are so down to earth, real, and easy to connect and relate to.
I loved learning how Sarah became a part of the group and how her and Lex first met. Sarah is so freaking adorable and full of sunshine, I couldn't help but feel all the happy energy that she was feeling. Now Lex, well he is swoon-worthy and just an amazing human. That accent in my head melts me into a puddle of butter. I love it! We also learn about Lex and his past and why he is the "no relationship" man that he is. I thought these two were a perfect match for one another, as they complement each other well.
As I mentioned before this story took me on a roller-coaster of emotions and I had a hard time putting the book down. When it was all said and done I was left feeling so happy, like I was floating on cloud nine. I highly recommend The Makeup Artist. It can be read as a standalone, but trust me you'll want to read about Tatum and Kiki from Coffee Girl.
I was gifted an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review... so first off I want to say thank you Sophie.
Coffee Girl was my favorite read of the month. I loved the flirty banter between Tate and Kiki and the euphoria of the country music world. I didn’t think this world could get any better if it wasn’t focused on these two.
I WAS SO WRONG! Que Lex... guitarist, bad boy, and Irish heartthrob who refuses to connect with a woman personally. Sarah.. makeup and hair artist to the band and best friend to Kiki. Did I mention she’s been head over heels for Lex for years?
I loved watched these starcrossed lovers find their way and connect. I am a sucker for an accent and a bad boy so Lex ended up taking the #1 spot in my heart (sorry Tate)
But what really made this book the best for me was the trio that is. Kiki, TJ, and Sarah. I was crying from laughing so hard at their inside jokes and horrible commentary. They reminded me of my best friends and how annoying we appear to others, but we find ourselves hilarious.
My favorite scene was when Kiki and TJ went into Sarah’s room after Lex left. 💀
So when will I get over my love for this book?
Ummm Nevuary 🤣
Check out these books if you haven’t yet

Ok, listen. It's no secret that I am OBSESSED with the first book in this series. Coffee Girl was my introduction to Sophie Sinclair and let me tell you I fell so hard for that book. #tatumreediseverything
When I read the teaser for The Makeup Artist I was so freaking excited to get a closer look into Lex and Sarah's worlds. Lex seemed so mysterious and I just wanted to know if there was a good guy under all the swagger and manwhorish ways. And let me tell you - HE DOES NOT DISAPPOINT.
This book is so different from the first book in that it has such a different kind of angst and it makes you feel allllll the feels. Literally I was so PISSED at one of the characters for half of the book even though I knew it was all gonna be ok - I mean, let's face it here. Our girl Sophie is NOT gonna leave us hangin' with all that drama. I KNOW she's gonna tie it up in a sweet HEA, but still THAT ROLLERCOASTER! Whew.
Sweet Lex had some deep scars and it was so beautiful to see him overcome those and finally let himself admit how much he loved Sarah. Theirs was not an easy love story, but I think that made it so much sweeter in the end. I cannot even begin to tell you how hard I swooned over the Post Epilogue. Seriously I NEVER WANTED IT TO END!
Not only do we get one HEA, but TWO. Holyfreakinghell THAT was the best secondary character plot line I could have asked for. I'm just feeling alllll the swoons, y'all.
Here's the bottom line: If you love Tatum and Kiki, you need to read this book as soon as you can get your hands on it. Not only will you get to see more of them, plus the ever amazing TJ, but you'll get to meet Lex's IT who will completely knock your socks off. Run, don't walk to get your pretty little hands on this one, ladies, and let Sophie's magical words worm their way into your heart!
My favorite quote: "Is ceol mo chroí thú," he says against my lips. "You're the music of my heart. I love you so much, Sunshine." - try not to hurt yourself when you swoon, ladies ❤️

Sarah is a makeup artist for the hottest country band in the US and Lex is the lead guitarist. They both have had secret feelings for each other for two years, but Lex is very closed off .... so nothing has ever moved forward.
I love that this story starts out with another great coffee meet cute. You get a great follow up to Coffee Girl, with so much more of all your fave characters, Kiki, Tatum, TJ - and some fun new ones! There are some parts that I just laughed so hard out loud at, which isn’t something I do easily.
Ok. The goods. Lex is a HOT, I mean HOT Irish guitarist with an accent and tattoos and all the swoon worthy bad boy stuff you desire. He has a hard exterior from being badly hurt, which is proving super tough to crack. He calls Sarah “sunshine” and it will just melt you. A large part of the book is set in Ireland and I loved how she incorporated accents and talked about the landscape there.
I think the reason this one lost 0.25 is that I wa Sarah was a bit of a pushover when it came to Sexy Lexy.... mostly forgivable when you realize how sweet their connection is.
Sophie Sinclair has easily cemented herself a permanent spot on my Kindle and bookshelf! Her 2019 debut, Coffee Girl, blew me away and The Makeup Artist is no different.
If you've read Coffee Girl, you've been waiting for Sarah and Lex. They have a chemistry that has been denied far too long. A tour to Europe, and Lex's home town, quickly changes everything. But that's only the beginning of their journey to a HEA. It wont be a smooth ride, but it's well worth it ❤️
Anyone who knows me, knows I live for an amazing epilogue and this book delivers BIG time. I absolutely can't wait to read more from Sophie Sinclair. She's a true gem in the indie author world 💎
Oh the cuteness!! Lex and Sarah took my heart for a rollercoaster ride and left me feeling that exhilarating thrill of the wild ride to happily ever after.
Kiki and TJ are comedic dynamite. I loved the antics, the friendship, and the ridiculously adorable nicknames. Lex’s family was so realistic, loving, and sweet. Sophie’s descriptions of Ireland were vivid and completely drew the mental picture for me. I swear when this pandemic nonsense is over I am getting my arse to the UK!
If you loved Coffee Girl, The Makeup Artist will not disappoint—more smiles, delightful romantic comedy, swoontastic love, and such an endearing cast of characters. Can’t wait for Cam’s story next in The Social Hour!! Thank you Sophie for this advance copy—The Makeup Artist is out May 1! Pre-order now and prepare to fall in love 💕.
I’m so excited for y’all to read the second book in the Coffee Book series, The Makeup Artist. This book picks up where Coffee Girl left off taking you on Sarah and Lex’s journey. I hope this book makes you laugh, makes you swoon, and makes you cheer for Sexy Lex and Sunshine Sarah. Shilo Rum Do, my loves. Xoxo Sophie
I need this in an audiobook ASAP! Listening to some deep, beautiful voice say things like “mo chroi” might just make me spontaneously combust. In all honesty, I think this book is even better than the first! Tate and Kiki were hot, their chemistry was amazing and they had such a great story. However, Lex and Sarah’s story has such a beauty to it that I seriously could NOT put the book down. It pulled me in and refused to let me go. I completely loved the scenery Ms. Sinclair’s words invoked. There is not one thing about this book that I didn’t love except for Mr. Sandy Sanderson. I can’t wait for more! ❤️
Sarah and Lex’s journey to their Happily Ever After isn’t easy but I think every twist and turn is worth it. I enjoy the missteps along the way, they make Lex and Sarah love that much more tangible. Their interactions with their friends and Lex’s family, their own self-doubt is something we all have dealt with. I can’t not recommend enough that everyone who loves love should read this book. There is magic in its pages. I can not scream loud enough READ THIS BOOK!! Lex clears them but not without stumbling but in the end, he makes up for it with his passion for love and sunshine! I have so many more thoughts on this book! But read my blog at Bookcaseandcoffee.com for my full review!
The Makeup Artist By Sophie Sinclair (2020/06/11) Rating 3/5 Stars Disclaimer: Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. TW: Drugs, cheating, death of a loved one
The Makeup Artist is the second book in the Coffee Book Series by Sophie Sinclair. This can be read as a standalone novel; however, it does feature characters from the first book so I suggest reading that so that you can enjoy the full experience of this one. This story follows Sarah Bowen who has a lifestyle boutique with her two best friends and is a makeup artist for a country band. She's been in love with the Band’s Guitarist Lex Ryan for two years.
This year she vows to finally put her heart out on the line and tell Lex how she feels so that she can either be with him or move on. Lex Ryan is a Irish lead guitarist who is known as a womanizer and has no plans to ever have a relationship. When the band travels to Ireland Lex’s past starts to haunt him. He must decide if he is able to truly let go of his past and love Sarah or if he just let her go.
I enjoyed this story; it was really easy to get into and there were many funny scenes which I enjoyed. However, many of my dislikes from the first book stayed the same. I still felt like the characters were way immature especially for their age. It was hard to connect with the heroine at times especially when she would cry over things that she had no control over. I liked how friendship was such a significant part of this story. I liked that TJ got his happy ending with Connor (Lex’s brother).
I really liked Lex as a hero, I found him really sweet. I didn't really like the surprise baby plot that was thrown in there, I found that it was unnecessary and didn't really add to the story aside that it was used for a conflict. I didn't like how Lex didn't know when to draw the line between him and his ex-girlfriend (Alana). I feel like a lot of Sarah's concerns were understandable especially with how kind Lex was treating Alana.
I wish we had got to see the hero grovel for the heroine at the end. I feel like although he spent time and worked on himself, he didn't really work that hard to get the heroine to forgive him or for the relationship in that matter. Overall, I would recommend this to someone who wants to read a cute country friends to lovers romance.

He's been crushed by love before and isn't willing to give it another go, but can't stay away from her. She's spent her entire life being left behind by others either through death or abandonment and can't keep taking the hot/cold treatment from him. Neither can seem to stay away from the other especially since they work together constantly and share the same friend circle so the dance continues. A well developed plot line added to intriguing characters that draw you in and have you empathizing with them makes for a well written love story to entertain you for hours as you won't be able to put this one down. I am really enjoying this series and look forward to more from this author soon!
The Makeup Artist was full of delicious goodness in the form of Lex Ryan. Bad boy, Irish, guitarist who has some layers. How can you not love that?
Sarah is a makeup artist and a talented one at that. Lex is a world famous guitarist, also very talented. Two people who you think would never cross paths, but they did. Many, many years ago at a coffee shop, then again when Sarah started working with the band. There is instant chemistry between these two and it never fades over the years, both of them are drawn to each other.
The Makeup Artist was the perfect mix of drama, steam, and romance. I was sucked into this story from the moment I started reading. It took me on a wild ride and I experienced an assortment of emotions. I laughed, cried, wanted to through my kindle across the room and I was swooning. This is a MUST READ! I can’t wait to see what is next from Sophie.
Sarah and Lex have a friends to lovers romance that will keep you on the edge of tour seat the whole time. I never knew when the other shoe was going to drop, but I could tell it was coming... and I definitely didn’t expect it to blow up like that!
Sarah is a makeup artist and has been pining for Lex for awhile now. She is very down to earth and somewhat shy when it comes to him.
Lex is a famous musician and has been hurt in the past. He refusing to let emotions play a part of his life, and does everything in a way that leaves it impossible for him to get hurt.
I have been rooting for these two since the first book. I wanted them to be together, but understood both of their reservations.
I loved getting to see the other characters and learning more about their lives. They were such a fun, integral part of the book.
The only thing that made me a little upset about the book was how they reconcile at the end. I feel like the other person should have had a big time, grand gesture to redeem themselves. It was still a great ending, but I was just wanting more.
