two and a half stars

i was actually pleasantly surprised by this book because the guy isn't some raging alpha male with mommy issues! usually billionaire romances are questionable because you know. capitalism. this one wasn't too different in that regard, unfortunately, but the characters are sweet and that's the main thing i strive for when i read fiction. however, it does lack the substance that i crave from reading any genre of book, you know? the whole time, i was never truly engrossed in the book because i was aware that what i was reading was fictitious—it was, simply put, unrealistic.

and i will admit, the bookcover and title make me want to die out of shame because it takes me back to my wattpad days from when i was 12.

Faking It as the Maid was an okay book. In this, you will meet Avery and Ben. She's a poor, but very beautiful, girl looking for a job. He's a rich handsome guy that eventually becomes her boss. Of course, before all of that happens, they meet each other at a bar and make out. After this night, he can't stop thinking about the mystery girl who most likely stole from him. That is until she shows up at his new place to work as his new maid.

The one thing I liked about Avery was how she pretended to not know English. It's mostly due to him assuming that she was not from this country, and she just never corrected him. So, it was pretty funny when he realized that she did in fact know English and proceeded to yell at him. Other than that, I wasn't really invested in their romance or the drama outside of it.

In the end, it was a book that was easy to read but all kinds of predictable.

Avery's sob story was over the top, it was just ridiculous and it made me laugh. And Ben, sigh, let's just call him a Hallmark story.

For me, this felt weirdly paced. It seemed as if the majority of the story the heroine was pretending not to speak English so there was very little dialogue and then the second she gave up on that the story then took off at this fast pace of Ben fixing his "mistakes" and making everything okay for Avery and then "they lived happily ever after"

Overall, the premise was interesting but it just didn't live up to what I had wanted from it I think.

very bad writing and honestly the whole time it just felt like some 2015 wattpad story with no spark or anything. so. bland.
i hated avery (fmc) she was so annoying and her only personality trait was being poor like why?? and the fact she took it out on the mmc in such immature and stupid ways got on my nerves
ben wasn’t all that either, offering money A MILLION and being confused as to why she got upset???? are u okay in the head???
so many things happened but also nothing did and it just became unbearable at some point
oh and the only part i actually enjoyed was at like 90% smth (when he went to the cafe)
ughhhh they were so dramatic i just can’t get over it bruh
i regret wasting my time on this book but at least i finished it ig
i would never recommend this book to anyone who actually wants to enjoy reading
i will 100% forget EVERYTHING abt this book in a couples of hours but i won’t forget how much i didn’t like it

First time trying this writer. Too many words and extremely heavy in monologue. It’s like the writer wrote down each and every thought that comes in a person’s brain.

The h was a weird juvenile psycho B. She had no reason to be so rude to the H who was also her employer. Not sure what she was mad about all the time and kept taking out her silent abuse on the H. Cranking up his heat, hiding his undies and tooth paste and spiking up his food.

I regret using my time on this silly book.

1 extra star for the writer using her elbow grease to type up all those words.

The hero is so damn obsessed. And I’m here for it. He took good care of the girl and was really protective, in a good way of course.
I loved to see some Romanian representation. It was so damn funny when she didn’t speak to him, and he thought that she didn’t understand a word he said and he was rambling how pretty she is and everything. I have no idea how she still kept her cool. They were so cute together. Although there wasn’t too much romance. Maybe it’s more like slow burn-y. I wanted more more and more cute moments.

It was actually better than expected. It didn't have much plot, and that's why I didn't give it 5 stars, and also, the whole thing with "we're from different worlds" is ANNOYING AS HELL.
Ben was actually such a good man, Averly annoyed me a little, but yeah... I liked it a lot.

I completely loved this book. It was not exactly your usual comedic filled Emily James story, but there was still some funny parts in there. She's great at bringing humiliation to light and making it funny and real. Avery is a very strong character, proud and independent. Ben is warm and caring but just very wrapped up in his work. The way they meet is sweet and a little comical, and really sets the pace of the story. There were moments that made my heart race, some that made me want to yell and scream, and others that melted my heart. I like a good story that can encompass these elements without being obvious about it.
I've read several Emily James books and I have to say I think they keep getting better and more diversified. I always look forward to the next one. This one in particular just seems to speak to me on many levels. It's a great read, not too long, highly enjoyable. It has my full recommendation.

This book was impossible to put down. I've just spent the whole day reading it, I enjoyed it so much. Ben is a property developer and Avery becomes his maid and even though their relationship is based many misunderstandings, their fire can not be denied. This is about their lack of communication and believing information and beliefs that aren't true. I found this book to be a breath of fresh air. It was a very different concept and yes although there was drama and tension, there was always the underlying emotions struggling to show themselves.
Emily James the Author did an amazing job in the writing of this book. The depth of the characters, the expression and the fundamental message was just profound to me, all comes out in the writing. I honestly recommend this book, it's a journey for not only these characters but the reader as well.
It was an ARC and I feel happy I can leave this voluntary and honest review.

I loved this book! Emily James always knows how to start a book. The story catches your interest right away and continues like this through the whole book!
What I liked most from this story is the main character, Avery. Even when things are at her worst she keeps her head up to keep moving.
After a night of being fired and having a bad experience with Ben at a bar, Avery jumps at an opportunity to help her friend clean homes while she is away.
Avery and Ben are from two different worlds. Wealthy and poor. Avery finds out she will be working for Ben and cleaning his home. She doesn't know that Ben believes that she stole his wallet and this gives him the idea to work her hard to pay him back.
This book is full of comedy and romance for any RomCom lover.

I really loved this book. I couldn't stop laughing at their antics. Especially Avery. I couldn't put book down.

I loved Avery and Ben together, it may of took them ages to get together but you could tell their was feelings for a while.

Emily James did amazing job on this book.

Kinda sweet and predictable story, yet I enjoyed reading it. Ben was a sweetheart and I would love to read Christina's story.
