Chosen by a Beast
I’ve been abducted. Twice.
And now my situation with this new group of aliens has gone from bad to worse. I was with a bunch of elf-like aliens who had unparalleled technology, but now I’m in the midst of a group of primitive gargoyle aliens running around in loincloths.
Which doesn’t hide much, let me tell you. There’s one gargoyle in particular who watches my every move, but what’s under his loincloth scares me more than his beastly appearance.
To be sure we’re worthy to breed with, the savages have us each perform a rite of passage.
And by that I mean a test of survival. Navigate the terrain, scavenge for food, defend myself against wildlife—basically all the things that could cause bodily harm or death. So that’s fun.
And as much as I’d like to be rescued by the alien who’s stalking me, it looks like I’m on my own. Maybe I shouldn’t have flipped him off, but how was I supposed to know I’d need his help?
Now, I’m going to have to tap into my survival skills or I’ll be dead by morning. May the odds and the aliens be ever in my favor. Or something.

I need to preface this review with the information that I have loved all the romances by Miranda Bridges that I have read in the House of Kaimar sci-fi romance series. My problem with this novel stems from my personal loathing of cultures that openly practice slavery and the systemic exploitation of women. This novel never addresses the moral problem of slavery or the exploitation of the women classified as breeders in this society. In fact, this novel has the background information that this culture bought a whole spaceship cargo of enslaved human women to exploit as slaves who then infected the tribe with a human disease which wiped out most of the tribe's women and children. This incident is positioned by the author as supposed to make us understand or sympathize with the alien tribe's hostility toward human women. For this reader, all it did was make me regret that this human disease spared most of the men. In my opinion, this tribe only got what they deserved for practicing slavery in the first place. The heroine is completely unconcerned with the suffering of the human women chosen by these disgusting rapist males as breeders, too. Breeders in this culture are women who are breeding slaves who will have their rapist's male children forcibly taken away from them. Also, a woman's consent is completely missing from this culture's marriage ceremony. Honestly, in my opinion, the only acceptable Happy Ever After for this novel is the human breeders and slaves murdering all the males in the tribe. For this reader, slavery has no business in a romance novel, which is supposed to showcase women triumphing over patriarchy and getting their HEA. The hero of this novel was fairly sweet and devoted to the heroine. The characterization of the hero and heroine was well done, with both hero and heroine being vibrant distinct individuals. I personally loathed this heroine for her passivity and acceptance of this terrible culture, but there are many women like that in real life, so her characterization was very well done. The world building in this novel was also very well done, with the alien wildlife and primitive village culture richly drawn. This novel would have been five stars for me if this culture did not enslave and exploit women as a matter of course. I took off two stars because this novel portrays sexual and labor slavery as a perfectly normal and acceptable activity. Other readers who aren't triggered by slavery in their romance novels would probably quite enjoy this novel, because it is quite well written.

Primitive alien plantation.
The series in which this one spun off of isn’t terrible, so I had high hopes for this one going in based on the preview of these aliens in that series. Unfortunately it ended up being a primitive alien plantation.
So here’s the break down with some sp oi ler ish c o n tent.
Human women taken from Earth once, then again by a second alien species, then those second aliens give these human women to a third race of aliens as tradesies to go help them bang bang boom boom war play with these other fourth alien species. NO ONE asks these women what THEY want. They just round some up out of the group the second set had of humans and say okay, now you’re going with these guys.
So now they’re supposed to trek through the jungle to be worthy to join this primitive aliens village.
She helps a dragon she calls it, but let’s be real it’s just a lizard with wings that sorta kinda likes her and she thinks of it as a pet even though it still wonders off and does it’s own thing. These aliens apparently think they’re special. Okay, but WHY? The lizard with wings never has any cool scenes or super powers.
So turns out the H, Masse, has been able to speak perfect English the whole time, but acts like he can’t to get to know the h. EVEN GOING INTO THEIR WEDDING night, which is like the first day, he’s still letting her think he can’t understand her so he can, as he says get to know her. Uh, so lie by omission? Not cool wings boy. She gets right over that.
THIS PLANET IS COMPLETELY PRIMITIVE. They’re rocking cloths, no running water and living in tents. I’d be throwing a serious hissy fit taken from a tech involved civilization to living in the mud. No thanks.
So here’s the real kicker, the h, Makayla, DOES NOT CARE and neither does Vivian that they’re the only two selected as BRIDES while the other human women are taken as BRE EDERS OR SLA VES! Yes, you read that right. This society openly practices bree der sla ves and regular ol fashion sla very! Get this, the poor baby maker chicks, if they have a male baby the dad takes it and if it’s a girl they allow the female to keep it. LOL.
The Masse still HAS NOT fed Makayla or the other humans even though they’ve done a trek through the jungle survival course, been picked and had this craptastic wedding....so like 48 hours or whatever. But they give her some booze and that’s supposed to be sufficient. And Yania says it’s because the Masse lets his people eat first. Uh, hello she’s a starving human over there. Yeah, that really shows he cares. Then when she does get food HE HAS TO FEED HER and limits what she eats because she might throw it up. That’s a good point, but seriously you starved her and now she can’t even feed herself? And hilarious part, one of the human sla ve girls looks at HER with pity.
Let’s not forget these people don’t accept the humans, because at some point the Masse, how old is this dude?, brought in other human sla ves who had a disease that knocked off a ton of his people, especially the women. So they just killed the traders before. So where did the humans go? But yet, he still brings more. This all seems very Europeans coming to America and taking out native Americans with diseases they had no immunity to.
Would not recommend this book.

So, I started with this one, not realizing it’s a spin off series. So it can be enjoyed alone, but you’ll definitely realize the story doesn’t quite start here. If you want the whole story, you’ll want to start with Bridges’ House of Kaimar series.

My thoughts:
I thought this one was a decent read. It’s short so I tolerated some things that might have annoyed me in a longer book. I do think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read the prior series – so that’s definitely something to keep in mind.
What I loved here was the kind of ‘all in’ vibe from the hero. I loved the possessiveness and ‘I’m taking you’ mentality. I enjoyed when the mains were together.
I can’t say I loved the writing style though. There were a lot of weird one liners that I think others might find funny but I just didn’t enjoy. I liked the narrator okay but didn’t love her. For some reason I felt like I could hear here swallow a lot and it was really distracting, haha!
I personally was not a fan of the other woman plot line here. I think I am a bit tired of the catty, jealous, evil ‘other woman’.
I’d try this author again though! The steam was pretty fun.

I really liked this book. It was a solid start to the series and included enough stuff from the other series to make it a satisfying spin-off for fans.
I loved Makayla’s inner monologue and her attitude was a constant source of amusement. I enjoyed her banter with Jaxar and I felt like their story progressed well.
I am fascinated by the whole Boraq race and I’m so excited to learn more about them. I am a sucker for an alien race with wings and a tail and throw in a heart of stone and you’ve got me! I can’t wait to continue this series with the next book!

Loved it
I really enjoyed this book.... It was funny, packed with emotion, and suspenseful in parts. These Bleak have hearts of stone until they find their mates. Jaxal is the ruler of his people and Makayla is a human spitfire.
Together they are a perfect couple. I really liked the side characters Yania and Vivienne.

I don't even know with what to start...
Ok,so this is a bit of a train wreck, you can tell immediately that it is getting worse by second, yet you keep hoping for a miracle. It would be easier to tell everything that is NOT terrible in this story . But let me try to give the most glaring problems a shot.
1.Slavery. Basically every human on the planet is bought as a property, treated as a property and called a property. Just because somewhere along the way they are divided in groups called " slaves","breeders " and "brides" ,does not mean these women are no longer slaves. You can slap whatever title or name you want on a person, but if they have no freedom to make choices and are subject to someone else's will,it is still a slavery. Just because you slap a rose on piece of crap,doesn't mean it doesn't stink anymore.
2. Mindset of said slaves. Author obviously expected readers to believe how comfortable and good being a slave is and I guess every woman shoud relate and want to become one. Instead I seriously doubted mental health of these women. No normal person react this way to becoming a slave. It just doesn't happen. Ever.
3. Bravery of main heroine. There is nada. Nil. Zero. She is not brave ,she doesn't fight for herself, or her friend or other women even when she comes in power to do so. Am I supposed to admire her? For what exactly?
4. Worldbuilding. Practically nonexistent apart from some trees,snakes and tents.
5. Romance. I guess there was supposedly one. At least it was declared immediately. Did I feel it? Nope. There was again a lot of fluttering, flapping body parts that does all thinking for their hosts,so I guess it was supposed to count as one.
6. Sex scenes. I skipped after first few, just couldn't stomach them. If you can't write them well,maybe you should avoid them.
7. Plot. Or a hole where one was supposed to be.

Etc.
I have no idea who the audience was ment to be for this gem of literature. As sci-fi it is laughable. As romance-ridiculous. For novice reader it can turn people away from ever picking any book up again. Writing is bad,like seriously hard to read bad. Especially if you want to get any pleasure from reading.

LOVED. Honestly it just made me laugh! Short read that I thought could have been stretched a bit more in places to add more depth but it really was good. Miss Bridges has found herself in my "read as soon as possible pile". You know the one that you check after every book to see if it has come out yet even though you know the release dates by heart. Yeah, she's in that pile.

Darn it, I just re-read the blurb and it says this is a spin-off of the "House of Kaimar" series. This explains why I felt like I was missing something.
I think I will start that series before continuing this one so I can have the full backstory.
Makayla was a little annoying but she grew on me. I liked Jaxar and the whole thing was pretty cool.

This is a spin off of the House of Kaimar series. I was happy to dive into this but I was disappointed. It wasn’t so because the story was poorly written but because slavery is normalised in these series. As if that’s alright and a given. Abducting women and forcing them into sexual slavery or manual labour isn’t right no matter the culture or planet. This was not addressed at all. I suppose that people who aren’t triggered by slavery or dub-con will love these series. But I didn’t. Simply because of these themes.

This story is EPIC!! Absolutely loved the feistiness of the heroine, her fierce determination, her need to always be in control, so when that control is wrestled from her by her chosen mate, it makes for a very sexy "downfall." There is no hesitation in recommending this book - nope, none!! I would give it more stars if I could!!

Всяка една от жените ще бъде разпределена в 3 групи. Робиня, която ще изпълнява слугински задължения. Жена за разплод, която трябва да роди деца на мъжете в селото, ако е момче детето ще й бъде взето, а ако е момиче ще може да си го отгледа. И съпруга, която ще се ползва със закрилата на своя съпруг, ще бъде гледана, обгрижвана и пазена. Микаела не знае дали да е щастлива или изплашена, когато се оказва избрана за съпруга на не кой да е, а краля на племето Бурак.
Това е първата книга на авторката и мога да кажа, че определено няма да ми е последната. Изпълнена с толкова хумор и самоирония, за мен беше истинско удоволствие да проследя пътешествието на главната ни героиня. От това как си дуднеше сама под носа, до сцената в която беше много ама много гладна, и точеше лиги докато другите ядяха, през смешните й коментари било то пред главния герой или пред някоя от новите й приятелки. Никога не ми се е случвало толкова много да харесам героиня от самото начало на книгата. Въпреки, че ни е препоръчано да прочетем книгите от предишната поредица, аз започнах от тази, защото само тя има аудио. Голяма част от задоволството ми от книгата идва от страхотният дублаж на Rachel Music. ДО сега не съм слушала книги с неин дублаж и мога да кажа, че доста съм изпуснала, уникално добре се е справила с вдъхването на живот на тази книга.
Относно света в който ни отвежда авторката, мога да кажа, че е нов и много вълнуващ. Имаме планета с извънземни. Преди време на планетата биват доставени група човешки жени, които обаче донасят със себе си мистериозна болест, която покосява и убива почти всички жени и деца в племената. По тази причина сега мъжете търсят своята половинка измежду други извънземни раси. Точно тази раса има нещо много специфично. Мъжете се раждат със сърце обвито в камък, и само когато бъдат интимни със своята истинска половинка, обвивката се пръска и сърцето на мъжа започва да бие. Ако мъжа не намери половинката си, сърцето му бавно се превръща в камък и той умира.
И така Микаела се оказва половинката на Джаксар, и се превръща в негова кралица. Тук в тази книга срещнахме други 2 човешки жени. Едната е Вивиан, която също като Микаела (май само те двете) беше избрана за съпруга, и се оказа истинска половинка на новият си извънземен мъж. Жалкото в случая е, че май нямаме нейната история, или поне това, което прочетох изглежда, че останалите книги са за други двойки. Другата човешка жена, която срещнахме не бе назована по име, знаем само, че е червенокоса, и че е единствената жена, като изключим Вивиан и Микаела, за която двама от извънземните мъже се биха. Беше доста интересна точно тази част. За Вивиан се биха 3ма, за Микаела се биха 7, включително и краля им, който я спечели, а за червенокосата се биха 2ма. Единият бе грамаден и спокоен воин, докато другия покрит с белези и очевидно зъл воин, който гледаше на жената така, сякаш иска да й причини нещо наистина лошо. Та, да видим дали следващата книга не е за нея.
Хареса ми частта с която главната спаси малко драконоподобно същество и то се лепна за нея. Всички гледаха доста удивено и както и очаквах после се оказа, че това същество е почитано от племето и е невиждано някой до сега да е успявал да го докосне, и още повече да го превърне в домашен любимец. Доста интересна концепция, която ми допадна наистина много.
Надявам се скоро да имаме още аудио книги от тази поредица, че и от предишната. Наистина страхотният дублаж е огромен плюс за една хубава история и тук останах доволна от всяка една част от книгата.
Микаела е отвлечена от извънземни, при това 2 пъти. Първият път, от извънземна раса, която търси жени с подобна на тяхната физиология, за да не умре расата им. Микаела не е избрана от никой от тези мъже и си мисли, че е късметлийка, докато тя и още дузина жени не са предадени в ръцете на други извънземни. Тези са грамадни, със сивкаво лилава кожа, остри черти, остри нокти и огромни криле. Завлечени в джунглите на непозната планета, на всяка жена й са дадени дрехи, нож, огърлица от мъниста и мях с вода, и им е казано, че за трябва да докажат, че могат да оцелеят сами на тази нова планета, затова всяка от тях трябва да намери сама пътят до селото им. Микаела няма никакво намерение да се задържа в това извънземно село и все пак останала сама в нощта, тя знае, че трябва да се добере до него. В едно изпълнено с хапливи, забавни и самоиронични коментари, нощно пътуване, Микаела се сблъсква с опасните обитатели на планетата, успява да се сприятели с малко драконоподобно същество и да се добере до селото на извънземните, където я очаква нова информация. Всяка една от жените ще бъде разпределена в 3 групи. Робиня, която ще изпълнява слугински задължения. Жена за разплод, която трябва да роди деца на мъжете в селото, ако е момче детето ще й бъде взето, а ако е момиче ще може да си го отгледа. И съпруга, която ще се ползва със закрилата на своя съпруг, ще бъде гледана, обгрижвана и пазена. Микаела не знае дали да е щастлива или изплашена, когато се оказва избрана за съпруга на не кой да е, а краля на племето Бурак.
Това е първата книга на авторката и мога да кажа, че определено няма да ми е последната. Изпълнена с толкова хумор и самоирония, за мен беше истинско удоволствие да проследя пътешествието на главната ни героиня. Who doesn’t love flying hot gargoyles?
Definitely love the gargoyles theme, just a little irritated with the ***SPOILERS***whole slaves, breeders, and brides choice that these poor abducted ladies are stuck with. If females are truly so rare why are some wasted as “slaves”? Wouldn’t they be a protected class? At least for their uterus? 😠But maybe that’s a topic for a later book in the series, not to mention did some of them die on their forced walk to the village because of their weakness? How many of us would survive a midnight run in an alien jungle?
I admired Yania, and how adorable is Tika? Jaxar seems to have a one track mind, but Makayla was strong and resilient.

I ADORE Mikayla
I have enjoyed every book in this series but this one is my favorite. I liked Mikayla's personality in Morgan's book and I was really looking forward to her book. She did not disappoint and I am anxious to see if there will be more books in this series...I hope so. I fully recommend this book and the series as a whole.

Trop rapide. Tout est beaucoup trop rapide dans ce livre ! L'arrivée, la romance, l'acceptation du peuple... Bref, il y a très peu de développement et c'est dommage car il y a du potentiel. Je ne lirais pas les prochains tomes cependant donc je ne sais pas si je le recommanderais.

OMG, I was laughing at all the sarcastic humor between Mikayla and her alien king. This author has a unique sense of humor and good stories! I highly recommend this series!

Speechless. This was fantastic and everything an alien/human romance should be. No wasted words or necessary scenes. Less than 200 pages but filled with action, romance, spice and found family.
Fated mates, size difference, unique alien culture/traditions, and love.
This author even includes footnotes for the language barrier which is the first time I’ve come across that. Amazing 🤌🏼

Loved it
Although I have a feeling I missed something the way the story started made me feel like I started up on a new spin off of a different series they kept mentioning the Dravians but I don't know anything about them so I will have to look around see if I did miss something but other then that I loved the story the characters were awesome I highly recommend reading this

This is a spin off series but you don't have to read the original series to keep up. I still think the original series is my favorite but I did enjoy this book as well.

Hot alien men with crazy huge schlongs? Sign me up! Preferably attached with a decent story and writing, please.
For the most part, I thought this was just okay. My thoughts:
-World-building could've been better. I had a really hard time picturing what the world and terrain even looked like, let alone the village. Would've also liked to learn more about the culture and see more of their daily life.
-I was incredibly annoyed by the cliche of the heroine, Makayla, automatically pinning Shadow, her pet of sorts, as female because of its sassy, "bitchy" attitude. Yes, this completely alien creature whom you know nothing about must be female because of its attitude. Because of course.
-Because of the above point, I wasn't surprised when there was a lot of calling other females bitches or sluts. Because of course, right? To be fair, But I just detest it when any other woman is automatically a "slut" for eyeing a man, even if THAT man is the one who's slept his way through an entire village. This contributed to my rating.
-The constant cursing was a bit much for me. I do my fair share of it irl so it's not like I was offended, but there is such thing as overkill in books.
-Makayla was a little too mouthy for me. She was always making some smart or 'snarky' remark or something. I have nothing against mouthy female characters, but I don't like it when characters are snarky just for the sake of it, regardless of gender. It really depends on how the author writes it.
-The women just all seemed to accept their lot in life. It's like, welp, we got abducted a whole bunch of times and now our only choice is to be a slave, breeder, or bride, so better just suck it up! It's possible some more resistance shows up in the other books of which this is a spin-off. But regardless of where a book stands in a series, it should have enough info for the reader. I thought when Yania mentioned a fully functioning spacecraft, Makayla would attempt an escape. Granted, she would've had no idea how to pilot it or use it to communicate, but you'd think the thought would at least cross her mind. But nope. No desperation for escape or anything. It would've added a lot more interesting conflict and made her eventual acceptance more meaningful.
-The L-bomb was dropped really quick. Like, super quick that I didn't even feel it. I felt their chemistry and definitely saw the potential, but their feelings developed reeeeally fast, especially for its supposed depth. It felt like something was missing. I know effectively conveying the development of a relationship in a short length is possible because I've read it. Again, depends on how the author writes it. So I simply did not feel it when they professed their love for each other. Although I did like the saying their tribe uses: "Of my family, of my soul. May we part nevermore."
-Wanted a little more conflict. Not just between Makayla and Egathi (other alien woman who wants Jaxar) but between Makayla and Jaxar. I wanted a little more resistance on her end. Something to add more substance.
-The ending was super abrupt. They , but does that mean they're not going to try for their own children? Would that child be the heir and not Tika? So many questions.
In spite of all this, I had a decent time reading it. It was pretty well-written with a few typos. I plan on checking out the rest of the series and the other series of which this is a spin-off. Maybe I'll fall for one of those more.
