I'm Yours

I left Lakeside, Montana heartbroken and lost with no desire to ever return.
But life had other plans.

Moving back wasn't what I wanted to do, but I'd do anything for my daughter Emmy. Including put myself in the path of Sadie Jones.
My daughter's new dance teacher.

The reason my heart was never fully opened to another was that it's always belonged to her.

When I watched Reed Sanders drive away from Lakeside, I knew my heart would never recover.
He was meant for more than what this town could offer him.
Than what I could offer him.

I tried to warn him to stay away from me, but he refused to listen.
If only he would have, maybe I wouldn't feel so broken.

The heart is mysterious. It can be closed off and broken at the same time.
It can hold room for more than one person.
And unfortunately, sometimes it takes danger lurking around the corner to make it choose a side.

All I can say is that I hope one day I finally hear the words... I'm Yours.

Small Town | Second Chance | Single Dad Romance

I’ll admit, the reason I bought this book in the first place was because of the cover. I know, you should never judge a book by their cover but sometimes the cover draws you in and you can’t help but read it because of it. So, I went into this one with zero expectations, and no idea what I was reading! Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn’t. Thankfully, it worked for me with I’m Yours!

I’m Yours is a single dad, second chance romance set in a small Montana town. The two main characters, Sadie and Reed were best friends during their childhood. Reed fell hopelessly in love with Sadie and even told her so before he left for college, but she didn’t want to bring him down because their lives were so different. So, she told him she wasn’t in love with him and he left without a goodbye. Fast forward 12 yours later and Reed is back home with his 5-year-old daughter, Emmy.

Living in a small town its fairly certain that the two old flames with run into each other, but that doesn’t mean that the wounds of their past will be completely healed. Therefore, a journey of second chances and finding love with the one person you knew was destined to be your soulmate is the driving force of this novel. The story is heartwarming, sweet, endearing, and mixed with a little bit of suspense. Personally, I could have done without the suspense as it came out of left field (you don’t NEED drama for a book to be successful) but I loved how this bit of drama brought Sadie and Reed closer together.

That being said, if you enjoy sweet, small town romances that are lighthearted you may really enjoy this one. This is the first book I’ve read from the author and I’m hoping she turns this book into a series because there are a few secondary characters I would love to see with their own books.

✓ Small town romance
✓ Childhood best friends
✓ Almost-second-chance romance
✓ Sexy single Dad

Jennifer Van Wyk writes the most beautiful, swoony love stories. Her books are always strongly focussed on the romance, and I love getting completely swept up in her books, and this one was no different. The story of a widowed single father returning to his home town and reuniting with his childhood love is sweet, sexy and swoony, and such a gorgeous read!

“I’ve carried you with me, Sadie Jones.”
“I’ve carried you with me, too.”

Reed fell in love with Sadie when she moved to his small town when they were 14 years old. They became best friends and he always wanted more, but she continually refused him, using the differences in their situations and social standings as an excuse. She was from the ‘poor’ part of town and never felt good enough for him, and even when they turned 18 and seemed on the brink of something magical, Sadie broke his heart and he left town.

Twelve years later and Reed is a widowed father to a spunky 5 year old little girl. Following the death of his wife nine months earlier, he is returning home to his roots and his family ranch to get a fresh start for them both. That fresh start includes enrolling his daughter in longed-for dance classes, and that’s how Sadie comes back into his life - as the owner and instructor at the local dance studio, she is little Emmy’s new teacher.

From the moment that Reed and Sadie see each other again, sparks fly. You can tell there is so much emotion still between them, and I love, love, love how they don’t get all cagey and play the cat and mouse game. They were best friends, they have missed each other, and they don’t delay in catching up on all of the time they have lost. They have so much to learn about what has happened in their 12 years apart, and though they have a lot of difficult news to share, they do it openly and honestly, and I loved watching them reconnect.

And it doesn’t take long for the truth of their feelings to be revealed. Something so all-consuming can’t be hidden, and neither of them even try, and there’s this overwhelming feeling of at last as they give in to everything they’ve wanted for so long, and it’s beautiful to watch. The emotions are strong, and their passion for each other is sizzling, and there’s this sense of soul-mates being reunited as they easily and naturally fall back together.

“I carried a piece of you with me even when I tried like hell to let you go.”

But just as they are finding their happiness, there is danger lurking, threatening their HEA and bringing a mystery/suspense storyline. Personally, I didn’t think it was needed, but it adds some interest and certainly didn’t diminish my enjoyment of the story. It just was.

The big question was – did Reed’s undying love for Sadie mean that he was unfaithful to his wife? Well… I don’t think he was unfaithful, but I certainly wouldn’t want to be married to a man who never fell out love with his first love. He did love his wife, and I’m sure he loved her the best he could, but she certainly came off as second best, and I felt bad for her. But I was still able to embrace Reed and Sadie’s love story and after all that they went through, I loved seeing them finally get their happy ending.

“I love you… I’m yours. Forever.”

There’s such a great bunch of side characters to go along with this one. Firstly, huge shout out to Reed’s parents, who are absolutely fantastic! Not only firmly supportive of their son, but they are all up in his business, and open about their own, and their interactions are highly entertaining! Reed’s daughter, Emmy, is completely adorable and seeing the two of them together absolutely melted my heart. And Sadie and Reed’s respective best friends, Kandace and Justin, had a few sparks flying during their brief interactions, and I am hopeful that we’ll get a story for them in the future.

I loved this book. It’s sweet and swoony, and just what I was hoping for.

4.5 stars.

Single dad romance and a second chance romance... YES PLEASE! I devoured this book, it was sweet and adorable. This story follows Reed, who moves back home to Lakeside with insanely cute Daughter. It’s been 14 years since he was in Lakeside and 14 years since he saw his first love Sadie. Sadie is the local dancer teacher and the new teacher of Reed’s Daughter. Reed is hot, he is a single dad, all muscle and covered in tattoos. Sadie is different, she’s caring and the perfect fit for Reed. Sadie and Reed’s story is sweet, and everything that is needed in a second chance romance.

I feel like I have so much to say about this one and yet I feel like I will be at loss of words the moment I'm actually typing this review. But let's make an effort..

Reed is who romance novels are written about. Sexy, single dad covered in tattoos and scruff and muscles. Oh, and let's not forget the fact that he used to be a fireman or that he's a cowboy.

Reed is a widow and a single dad and he's going back to his hometown. The problem is he doesn't know that his ex best friend and first love, Sadie, who they lost their virginities to each other, still lives there and more specifically she's a dance teacher to a studio where he wants to sign up his daughter to take dance classes. He's mad at her for something that happened at the past and lost touch with her when he left to study, 12 years ago. Now they have to face one another and set things straight.

I really enjoyed this book , it's actually my first by this author, but as soon as I heard about the premise I was convinced I needed to read this one. I had many scenes that I loved, but I'm generally in love with the single dad trope and Reed was definitely a fantastic one! Sexy with tattoos, body, attitude, he's a character that will make you throw your panties at him without second thoughts. His little daughter , Emmy, was also adorable and could melt your heart and you just loved them together. The romance was also sweet, sexy, hot, you say it , you got it.

Now my issues with this book may be personal and not everyone will feel the same, but I need to express myself. I felt awkward throughout the book because honestly it felt too soon for me to move on to his life. Like it was mentioned many times it wasn't even a year since the day he lost his wife. I also felt that even when she was alive she was always second best and he still was in love with Sadie, something that even if his mother in love aknowledged it and I fell sorry for her. And yes sometimes we have to move on, even if we're not there yet, but for god sake, it had been 12 years!! It's not just a few, but a whole lifetime and he got married, had a baby and still he was in love with her.

Even with time and distance between us, I can't outgrow Sadie Jones. What scares me most? I don't think I want to.

I got annoyed that no one seemed to comment on the fact that he was moving on so fast. I mean it was his wife. He is supposed to grieve for her. I did notice how many times the author mentioned that it wasn't just a random chick he had just met, but the love of his life, but that doesn't mean that he could show some emotion towards his wife that died so young. Even his daughter did that only once and I don't know it made me wonder how everyone was on board with them getting it on so soon.

However, I did enjoy the romance between them and the relationship they slowly built, the secondary characters, the dialogues were funny, sweet and sexy. It was a nicely written story and I recommend it especially to fans of the single dad trope. :)

Nice and good; it’s not one of those that will leave a long lasting clear impression in my mind, but very enjoyable, I found myself easily engaged and wanting to keep reading.
I really liked Sadie and Reed and the scenes between Reed and his daughter were adorable, I always found myself smiling while reading, Emmy is the sweetest kid.
Not a fan of the turn the book took near the end, unnecessary trauma, I like romantic suspense but here it was kind of thrown there when it didn't need to be present, it worked perfectly fine as a contemporary romance.

Reed and Sadie were best friends in high school. But Reed was always secretly in love with his best friend. Then on prom night, Sadie and Reed lost their virginities to one another. Reed poured his heart out to Sadie, but she didn’t return his same sentiment. Reed was heartbroken, but little did he know that Sadie was hurting just as much as he was.

Reed left their small town of Lakeside, Montana, never expecting to return back home. But when his wife unexpectedly dies, leaving him to raise their 6-year old daughter alone, Reed decides to move back home. He can work on his parents’ ranch while receiving help with Emerson. He’d do anything for his little girl, even if that means returning to the place where his heart was shattered 12-years earlier.

Emerson begs Reed for ballet lessons and when he signs her up for classes, he learns her new dance teacher is none other than Sadie. The 12-years only made her more beautiful and Reed’s past feelings come flooding back.

Somehow Reed and Sadie fall back into their close, easy friendship. But when their relationship turns to something more, Reed wonders if he’ll end up heartbroken once again.

I’m Yours by Jennifer Van Wyk is a small-town second chance romance that I totally swooned over. I loved the romance between Reed and Sadie and the quaint charm of Lakeside, Montana. I enjoy a good single dad romance and Reed was irresistible. The only part I didn’t like about this story was the mystery/suspense element. I don’t think it added anything to the story except for drama. Otherwise, I loved this story! 4/5 stars.

The tough thing with second chance romances is that sometimes they rely on the fact that the characters loved each other once, without developing the love they have for each other now. I'm gonna be honest- I don't know if that's what happened here but I know that I wasn't really invested in Sadie and Reed's relationship. They were cute (oh, and the longing- that was gooood), but nothing special for me.
I also would've liked more time with Emmy/Sadie/Reed and Emmy/Sadie/Reed/Reed's parents, which is why I felt cheated when instead of that we got a bit of mystery chucked in. Don't get me wrong, I like romantic suspenses, but this one felt unnecessary.
Overall, not the best read but Emmy was super cute so...

There were a lot of things about this book that worked, and some that should have but just...didn't.

I read the blurb and I was intrigued. I love a good second chance romance, and the set up of this one, with the return of part of the couple when he never intended to return really worked for me. Unfortunately, the way it was handled in the book didn't really work for me, it fell a little flat.

Reed left, and then he returned...with his daughter and after his life going in a very different way than he was expecting...especially when he discovers that Sadie, his ex, is the dance teacher and his daughter wants to take lessons. Of course.

I am not totally sure how to describe it, but with the blurb and their past, I expected more emotional punch than I got from this title.

I want to be able to recommend this title, I just find that I am not really able to do so.

(First of all have you looked at this cover? It fits Reed and Sadie so good!!!) Ok, so I love single dad books and I love best friends to lovers but this book is more. When Reed saw Sadie for the first time, she was 14 and he knew she was meant for him.

She kept putting him off, their lives were just too different. She didn't see herself like he did. When he was leaving for college, she broke his heart. Fast forward 12 years and Reed is finally coming home to stay with his 5 year old daughter Emmy. (Who I love dearly!) Imagine his surprise to run into Sadie.

The feelings are still explosive and are only getting to get hotter for Reed. What about Sadie though? Will she tell him her secrets and how will he react?

I loved there was a little bit of suspense in here too! This book had it all!!!

This is one beautiful second chance love story. I’m a sucker for single dad romances and mix in reconnecting things with the love of his life I just adored this.

Reed and Sadie have incredible chemistry and no people deserved to find love with each other again as much as these two did!

This one was a good solid story. Like always, the cover caught my attention, then the blurb, but when I started reading, the plot was very addicting. Besides, the characters were well written.
I really enjoy stories that are not forced and over the top, and this one was great for that (with the exception of the last part, that's why it doesn't have a better rating)
I want to read more books from this author. I find her blurbs and covers very appealing.

This sweet and steamy story has it all...friends to lovers, second chance, single dad...a perfect, must read combination!

Reed and Sadie were best friends in high school, but Reed always wanted more. Sadie never felt good enough for him, not because he made her feel that way, but because she just had low self-esteem as a result of her home life. Just when things seem to be taking a turn the way Reed wanted things to go, Sadie breaks his heart right before he leaves for college.

Twelve years later, Reed returns to his parent’s ranch with his daughter and finds himself blindsided over and over again when he discovers Sadie is still there and what’s happened in her life during that time. Sadie can’t get over how much Reed has changed, but still feels a comfort with him she’s never found with anyone else...and those sexy, muscled, tattooed changes aren’t a bad thing!

Reed and Sadie have a chemistry and connection that made my heart soar...their undeniable love had me smiling page after page. The suspenseful addition of an unknown threat had me ripping through chapters, then gripping me until the end with a surprise twist! Wow, Jennifer Van Wyk outdid herself with this one!!

This book was everything that I look for in a good read. If you haven't dived into any of Jennifer Van Wyk's books yet - this is the one to do it with. I think of Jen as this gem out in the book publishing world that not a lot of people have not been able to appreciate yet. This book is my favorite so far.

Reed and Sadie were the best of friends from the age of 14. Reed knew from the minute that he met her that she would always be in his world. But then 18 comes along and confessions are made and promises broken.

Now, twelve years later, Reed is moving back home, a widow and a young daughter and a broken heart. He never forgot Sadie and to see her now brings up all the old feelings and the disappointment he has in himself for walking away.

This book was full of emotion. It's an amazing second chance romance that tugs at the heartstrings. I immediately fell for Reed and his precious baby girl Emmy. I felt for Sadie and all that she had gone through, and how she overcame the obstacles in her life. Reed and Sadie are scorching hot, magnetic and romantic. Single Dad - Check. Friends to Lovers - Check. Second Chance - Check. I couldn't put it down, staying up all night to finish it. Read this book!

I say it every time, and I know I do but it has to be said. Every time I read one of Ms. Van Wyk’s books I think it’s her best yet and every single time I’m proven wrong. Because the next one I read is even better. And I’m Yours is no exception! From the very beginning I feel for Reed and Sadie. My absolute favorite genres are best friends to lovers, second chance romance, and single dad. Ummmm this book has all that and then some. I mean, how do I not love this book right?!? Reed, he’s one swoony man and the way he is with Emmy? Man your ovaries will explode! And then Sadie, she’s had her share of ups and downs in life but she’s strong and independent and I honestly just love the crap out of her. And one of my favorite things about Ms. Van Wyk’s books are the towns. I wanted to call into Lakeside. And live there. And just, I want to live in this town and with these characters. That basically just about sums it up! I want to live with these characters and in this town, I love it and then that much!

This book has all my favorite tropes; small town romance, second chance and single dad.
Sadie and Reed saw each other for the first time when they were 14 years and Reed fell in love with Sadie.
But Sadie wanted to only stay friends because of her low self esteem and thinking that she is not good enough for Reed.
The night before Reed goes to college, he confesses his love and they spend the night together. But Sadie broke his heart and he left for college.

12 years later Reed returns as a widow and a little sweet and spunky 5 years old daughter and couldn’t even imagine that his first love was still living there.

Love the storyline. It’s a sweet second chance romance.
Love that Sadie got stronger throughout the years.
Reed is one of the sweetest dads that I’ve read. He tried his best to be a good dad for Emmy.
And Emmy..what a sweet little girl. Love her.

This story is A beautiful story about second chance at love. About healing after a devastating loss.

My Rating: 4,5 STARS!!

Jennifer Van Wyk delivers a great small town, second chance, romantic suspense, single dad romance all wrapped up into one!! I loved it. I love her writing.

Sadie and Reed have history. She lets him go so she doesn't hold him back. He comes back to his home town because he knows he needs his parents help with his daughter. Reed has no idea Sadie is still in town.

I loved how the story develops and seeing the history of Sadie and Reed. They have great chemistry and really grow throughout the book. There are great supporting characters I could not get enough of- loved Reed's daughter Emerson and how she connected with Sadie.

The suspense was new for a Jennifer Van Wyk book but I really enjoyed it. Another great book!

This is a fantastic, 10+ star story!! Second chance, sexy, sweet, single dad, strong heroine - it's got all sorts of goodness packed inside. There's even some suspense rolled in, which was an unexpected bonus in this tale of love in a small Montana town.

Descriptions of the lakes and mountains made me want to visit. Descriptions of the characters made me want to live in their town & make them my friends. ; )

Reed & Sadie's relationship has some bumps & detours, but hey end up right where they're supposed to be. I got where they were coming from, understood their struggles, loved the pacing of their renewed relationship!! And little Emmy will steal your heart & make you smile. Bonus points for great kid writing! : )

This is seriously my favourite book written by Jennifer!
It was sweet, se*y, full of love and had some suspence thrown in too. Plus an adorable child - equals a perfect story!!
Reed and Sadie shared a one of a kind soul mate love but it didn't come easy for them. The challenges they encountered were realistic and I loved how their relationship started and then grew with them both. I really felt for them at times but understood each of their actions.
It was simply beautiful and I couldn't read it fast enough! Thank you Jennifer for a superb story!! It is definitely worth more than 5 stars!

Oh. My. Goodness.
5 "Say it, Sadie." Stars!!!!
Reed Sanders could not have made me SWOON anymore than he did. WOW! What a man!
Good Lawd! He was pure perfection.
A sexy single-dad cowboy who has a second chance at love with the one who got away...his Sadie. 🤠
He was strong, capable, honest, noble, a total gentleman, and hot as homemade sin when it counted.
You cannot go wrong with REED!!!

I also loved Sadie. She was a strong heroine with a soft side. She persevered and overcame adversity. Sadie sacrificed her own happiness for those she loved. She was compassionate and kind, and loved Reed with a fierceness that he truly deserved. She was worth the wait!

This book has so much heart and made all my girl parts flutter with joy too. The love story of Sadie and Reed is one that many will be able to relate to. When a childhood crush turns hot n' heavy, grown up decisions must be made. Hearts will be broken, and time just doesn't seem to ever heal certain wounds of the heart. Twelve years pass, with life and circumstances having changed so much about the people they once were, but the connection will not be ignored, and the long awaited answers are more than deserved. Are they prepared to lay their hearts on the line again as truths are revealed, and danger is lurking just around the corner?

There is so much to luuuuuurv about this storyline. The Sanders family was amazing! OMG I loved Reed's parents like crazy. Lindsay was the mother in law of my dreams!! How incredible would it be to have a MIL that you could have an honest to goodness good natured womanly relationship with without judgment and respectful of boundaries? Lindsay was open and honest, and I loved her relationship with Alan, Reed, Emmy and Sadie. #momgoals
Her interactions with Reed gave me so much to smile about, and genuinely made me laugh out loud at times. #workthepole 💃

Alan was the quintessential lovable, but protective father and the way that he extended that love to include Sadie during the 12 years that Reed was out of her life, was so inspiring! The way that he loved his wife...made my heart swell. Add in his sense of humor and it's no wonder Reed Sanders is the man he is. Gah.....my heart! #daddoneright

I'd be remiss if I didn't totally gush over our adorable little spitfire, Emmy. What a total cutie pie she is! She has sweetness and spark in perfect balance. The "little stinker" is a total scene stealer with her charm, kindness, and sass. She made my heart melt! Her relationship with Reed was absolutely precious and I loved the way Reed not only embraced his role as a father, but he reveled in it. Emmy was the light of his life! And for good reason. ♥️

The surprising element to this storyline was the suspense surrounding Sadie and her history. When we meet Sadie as a beautiful young girl, I did not expect to see her story to take the turn that it did. I loved that JVW turned the tables on us, and gave us another form of excitement to sink our teeth into (when Reed doesn't have us biting into our bottom lips that is). Phew....that man! I couldn't wait to see how this plot twist would unfold and where it would lead Reed & Sadie. 👄

This is just another book, on a rapidly growing list of JVW's works that are reread worthy. She excels at the heart-warming, small town romances that capitalize on the FEELS! My heart is always so full afterwards, and I genuinely feel blessed for taking the time to get to know her characters.
It's like she writes her stories with my heart in mind and I'm so thankful. #SWOON
Highly recommend. 👏
Fingers crossed this gets an audiobook release! 🤞 🎧

Each time I think I have a new favorite book by this incredible author, she releases something new and I immediately change my mind! This book has everything you could want: friends to lovers, second chance, single dad, emotion galore, sexy times and suspense!! Let's dig in!

This story picks up with an eighteen year old Reed about to go off to college, and head over heels in love with his best friend, Sadie. Even being so young, he knows that she's the one for him. The only problem? Sadie has never felt like she was good enough for him. When he confesses his love for her, they spend the night together and just when Reed feels like his life is falling in place, it's ripped apart by the only woman he's ever wanted.

Flash forward twelve years, and Reed is moving back home. He's a widow and a single father to such an adorable little girl, Emmy. He has spent the last years feeling as if a piece of him was missing and even though he was very much in love with his wife, he knew deep down it would never be close to what he felt with Sadie.

Sadie has spent the years apart from Reed trying to build herself back up. Soon after she broke his heart and he left for college, Sadie fell into a pit of depression and bad choices. At her lowest point she find solace in stripping -- not the act of stripping itself, but the dancing gave her an outlet that she so desperately needed. (Side note: I love how the author didn't have Sadies character be all "woe is me" about stripping. There is such a stigma against the women that are in that line of work, and I'm so glad it was made into a positive light.) Sadie is now a home owner, and owns her own dance studio and teaches a pole dancing class (so cool!!). She's a far cry from that insecure girl who felt like she was trash or unworthy of someone's love and affection just because of where she came from. When her and Reed come face to face after so long, immediately all the longing, pain, desire, love and friendship comes rushing forward. As well as a sense of belonging -- like these two had to go through all those experiences apart to come together and be what they were always meant to be.

Not long after reconnecting do they find themselves tangled up in each other, and even though Reed struggles with moving on so quickly after his wife's passing, he knows what a gift life is and how you shouldn't waste a minute of happiness.

There's also some intrigue/suspense that happens throughout the book and really comes to a head in the last few chapters! Plus the creep was the very last person I expected it to be!

This book is all about healing, finding happiness, and embracing what was meant to be all along. It was absolutely beautiful!

**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions!!**

I was really hoping for more angst/emotion; but alas, I didn’t feel it.

"I'm Yours."

'I'm Yours' just reiterates why I love this author and her stories. Sadie and Reed's story held so many amazing qualities, so I am not exactly sure on where to start, so I guess I will start from my first thoughts while reading. The prologue was something so relatable to me. I felt it all to well, because I essentially lived it. So when I say this author nailed the emotions, I mean that with my whole being.

Sadie and Reed's story held a certain amount of suspense that didn't over take the plot, which I so appreciated. It gave them enough enough time to actually have a story. It gave their story and their characters time to develop profoundly.

The main characters went through it, and I mean through out it, but you know what? They showcased so much strength and perseverance through out the entirety of their story and that right there, is how I hope my children deal with life's ever changing realities.

Sadie and Reed were so compatible. Their chemistry is something that can not be explained. If there were two people whose souls matched so completely together, it would be theirs. Put these two in a room together and it would suck the oxygen straight from the room. That's what a true connection is like.

I mean I could go on and on and ruin everything, but I am not going to do that. If all the above doesn't prove what a 5 star read is, then I don't know what does. I'm Yours was an amazing read, and I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT!

JVW is one of my favourite go to authors, so I always know I’m going to love what she writes, but wow, she blew me away with this one! This must read book has everything and more. It’s sweet, steamy and suspenseful. It’s a friends to lovers, second chance, single dad romance...what more could you want?!
