"What if the real villain of Jane Eyre was actually Mr. Rochester?"

Not the hot take you think it is when that topic is explored by 40% of secondary criticism on the novel. Academics have also written about the homoerotic relationship between Jane and her childhood friend Helen Burns. Lesbian!Jane is not new, but I am interested to see how McKinney spins it.

I mean I've always considered Rochester to be manipulative and controlling and toxic instead of the "misunderstood" character he's so often portrayed as?? so yes, this sounds GREAT and REFRESHING I need it

April 28, 2021: I am unsure if the low rating is people bitching about the publication being pushed back (probably not), or people being racist, sexist, homophobic assholes (most likely).
So I am putting a placeholder for when I eventually read it, and anyone rating it 1-star without having read it: get your head out of your ass and/or mind your own business if it isn't something you are interested in.
It takes $0 to not like something and move on.
